"To be really honest... I’m a straight, white dude in America. Typically, I’m the least worried about these things. But they might come for that one. So I was like, 'I’m just gonna get this done while I still can.'"
Said Iain Little, "a 40-year-old banker living in Philadelphia," quoted in "Snipped in solidarity: the American men getting vasectomies after Roe – while they can/Following the supreme court’s abortion decision, urologists say more men are taking charge of their reproductive health, to permanent ends" (The Guardian).
People are seriously worried that vasectomies are going to become illegal?
Little had always been fairly certain that children weren’t part of his life plan. For years, his wife agreed. Now, recently divorced and dipping his toe back into the dating pool, he felt it was an appropriate time to seriously consider a vasectomy.
His toe, indeed.

A GP friend of mine once got sued because a fellow (his barber) that he had done a vasectomy on, got his wife pregnant. Now, it turned out the guy never returned for a sperm count post op. That was one of many reasons I did not do vasectomies. Anyway, I suggested that the GP offer to adopt the kid and see what happened.
This is not reproductive 'health.'
It is kind of the opposite of 'health' if you destroy your ability to reproduce.
Great. The species shouldn't miss his DNA.
That snip won't fix stupid.
It was pretty common circa 1970 esp if you'd already head a couple.
And women getting their tubes tied after three! That was really going around, at least where I was.
It would be interesting to see a comparison of stats.
"People are seriously worried that vasectomies are going to become illegal?"
Progressive people.
Many, many more progressives must be subscribed to Hulu than I imagined. They watch "Handmaid's Tale" and think it's happening out here. We had this discussion the other day with women getting their tubes tied. Do you know who's not getting vasectomies or tubes tied? Conservatives. Immigrants. Indians. South Americans. Traditional religious people such as Muslims, Orthodox Jews, Catholics, Eastern Orthodox Christians. (as opposed to secularly religious like progressives).

I just love these NY articles:
End of Roe is causing people to behave more responsibly! This is horrible!
I don't think the message these articles are giving is the message they thing they're giving
Anecdotes are not data, unless you are in the media.
I got married at 22. Yes family was in my plans....as a conceptional notion. My bride, on the other hand. Had a blue print, and check list requiring deliverables. I was OK talking about it, but I thought I could talk about the concept for for years. Thankfully I acceded and started a family 18 months later. In hindsight, my problem was nothing but raw selfishness. I refused to sacrifice my freedom, and money, to become a dad with real responsibilities.
I thank God regularly for my wife's persistence.
People are so damn stupid.
People believe what they want to believe.
Part of me says good. We don't want this guy to father children. Society's gain. His loss.
Having kids is the best part of life. Nothing else really comes close.

Demography is destiny. And the illegals who are flooding the country have no background in American civics. And unlike the last great migration, they aren't going to get civics in today's public schools. CRT instead.
'A GP friend of mine once got sued because a fellow (his barber) that he had done a vasectomy on, got his wife pregnant.'
One word: Mailman...
A more sensible reason for a man actively dating to take the knife is that he can't control the outcome if the woman (er, sorry, "birthing person") gets pregnant. A fun romp can be turned into a near 2-decade financial commitment. Doesn't fit the narrative that the reporter was after, of course.
How could anyone take seriously his advice as a banker if he sincerely believe vasectomies will be outlawed?
Total fertility rate in the US is around 1.6 and dropping. This is typical throughout western civilization and, indeed, other countries are even lower. A TFR of 2.1 is the bare minimum for survival. This phenomena, a civilization voluntarily committing suicide, is, I believe, unique in human history.
His toe, indeed.
Speaking of digits, is the guy a thumb?

It was bound to happen when they started calling women "people with vulvas." Men don't know what those are or if they have them. It was enough of a surprise to learn that we also have urethras.
Leftists, especially those in the MSM, are given a pass to be constantly hysterical and full of anger. Then, we're all supposed to go: "There, there, its not that bad".
BORING!
Hysterical male.
I do recall a guy sneaking off to get snipped, unknown to his wife. But he already had five kids and figured he couldn't support more.
It makes sense for a man to get a vasectomy if he's sure he doesn't want children, and if his wife can no longer get an easy abortion. He needs a vasectomy now, because she might become pregnant, now.
It makes absolutely no sense to get one because you might not be able to get one later.
He's 40, childless, a banker, and recently divorced?
If he's typical, he'll be looking for a woman in her late twenties to early thirties.
There's a good chance the woman he settles down with might want kids.
He might not want to get snipped just yet.
But whatever, you do you, Mr. Little.
So for decades feminists have been trying to get men to take responsibility for birth control and "family planning". Now a ruling that has enraged feminists seems to have helped move the needle in the direction they have wanted all along.
Who knew that men would be so selfish as to leave the vast majority of the responsibility, guilt, shame, and medical risk to women rather than take some of that on themselves? Certainly no one could have ever predicted that type of behavior....
Men's role in evolution is to spread their seed far and wide. That has not changed, and Western male behavior is reverting toward the historical norm as feminism destroys the social strictures that worked to dampen this behavior.
When you can no longer breed, you become less sexually attractive. Your musky scent changes, or something. Thinking that sex without pregnancy risk will be better is a classic mistake.
"His toe, indeed."
Perfect. Well played.
I had vasectomy in CA after our second child in the late 70's. The doctor would not perform the operation until my wife signed a notarized "permission" slip, i.e., her body, her choice; my body, her choice.
They've convinced themselves that things are just as bad as the show says.
Their ability to think critically, to examine the reality around them has atrophied.
And the Handmaid's Tale was the '80s version of 'Fifty Shades of Gray' - lightly titillating ladies' porn, like the very popular bodice rippers with Vikings, Pirates and Scotsmen. Read it in the '80s when I was working at a bookstore, and was unimpressed.
That it'd turn into a cultural phenomena is disturbing. But if someone's snipping themselves because of it? Well, that's not going to work well for them in the long run. And the long run isn't anything that the progs are concerned with.
"Do you know who's not getting vasectomies or tubes tied? Conservatives. Immigrants. Indians. South Americans. Traditional religious people such as Muslims, Orthodox Jews, Catholics, Eastern Orthodox Christians. (as opposed to secularly religious like progressives).

Or not, if the indoctrination machine known as public education has its way. From pre-K through post doc, leftists control education across the country and use it to push their agendas. Having and raising kids is expensive, time consuming, and hard work. It's easier to convert your kids than to go to the bother of having kids of their own.
The one bright spot from COVID is that a lot of parents got to see what their kids are being taught and are pushing back. For that, they were labeled as domestic terrorists.
They absolutely should be worried! Remember when all the future SCOTUS Justices said Roe was settled law and then less than two years later dumped it? We warned everyone then that they were lying. They are pushing an extreme religious agenda that in the end claims that sex is solely for purposes of procreation. They are already going after other forms of birth control. Don't be naive.
There seems to be an increasingly prevalent mental illness called body dysmorphic disorder, in which people attribute their unhappiness to some physical feature that appears to others to be neutral or benign. And their solution involves amputating or disabling the offending portion of their anatomy. The disorder is an economic boon to the medical profession, and to many of those who profit from the foolishness of others.
There's another stupid thing to worry about started on the internet every minute. -- PT Barnum

People are seriously worried that vasectomies are going to become illegal?
Leftists like this loser have 2 problems.
1. They believe what the Oligarch owned media tells them because they are idiots.
2. They believe the government should make things they don't like illegal and project this fascist belief on to people that disagree with them.
He's not very bright for a banker. Did he need his wife's permission to get snipped?
I think that cases like these act as intelligence tests. Do these morons even understand why Dobbs was decided the way it was, what the competing interests were? It's as if they don't have any idea of biology or the law. Maybe this explains why people vote for Progressive policies... they lack the intellectual capacity to comprehend issues.
People are seriously worried that vasectomies are going to become illegal?
Your link is to The Guardian (not the NY Post) ... a really trashy "fake news" site in the UK. So to answer your question, no men aren't getting snipped out of fear it will soon become illegal.
The Guardian is just doing what all media are currently doing (successfully, I might add). They're getting mostly old people worked up with fake news for clicks to earn advertising revenue. You fell for click bait.
You are their product, which they sell. You are not consuming their news. They are consuming, and monetizing, your time. And thus your life. They're making money wasting your life.
"Remember when all the future SCOTUS Justices said Roe was settled law ...."
Except they didn't say that. Explicitly or implicitly.
Unless of course, you only listened to the mainstream media and their interpretation of the hearings. In that case, you're one of the unthinking gits who trusts mainstream (Democrat) media when the rest of us know better.
How to tell someone's an unthinking, media following git? When they use the term "extreme religious agenda" non-ironically.

Augustus seemed to feel that Rome was doing this back in the day.

I thought it was a little odd that the NY Post threw this sort of stupidity out there. This story could have been posted mindlessly in the NYT's or WAPO and it would be perfect reading material for the fucking idiots that read those publications.
This was in the Guardian, not the Post.
The Guardian is just another Oligarch dispatch full of drivel for idiot leftists.

Wow. Do you have _any interest at all_ in understanding your opposition?

My 90 year old, bleeding heart liberal mom, was VERY concerned about the monkey pox crisis.
I asked her, "Why?"
and she told me, that it was VERY contagious! And that she was Afraid, that she'd get it.
I asked her, if she was having a LOT of unprotected anal intercourse, with promiscuous men?
She laughed, and said "Of COURSE NOT!, why?" and i told her that it was unlikely that she'd get it, if she wasn't doing that..
"That's NOT what they said on the news", she replied
I mean, he doesn't want to have to wear a rubber or rely on a woman to be on some form of birth control. I can appreciate that.
Men are getting Roe vasectomies. Women are getting Roe tubal ligations. Both procedures as contraceptive measures in the fall of Roe wake. Does anyone else see these developments as, at least, a tacit agreement abortion was, in fact, used as contraception?
Ann asked: "People are seriously worried that vasectomies are going to become illegal?"
Absolutely. I am not at all surprised this banker fears vasectomies will be illegal. Women on Reddit have been posting fears that women will be barred from crossing state lines, will not be able to attend college, will lose the vote - and I even came across one rant that went off the rails completely with the belief women will be rounded up and placed on breeding farms.
I have believed for some time our species is getting dumber, that the average IQ is getting lower. Between all the sterilizations and hysterical women opting out of the dating game, our average IQ will rise.
"In hindsight, my problem was nothing but raw selfishness. I refused to sacrifice my freedom, and money, to become a dad with real responsibilities."
Sounds like my dad. He even borrowed money to abort the first one. Mom put her foot down. After no. 3 (me) they divorced and married a childless widow.
Not sure he ever came around.
At a time when people are swearing off having kids because they think the world is on fire, it's not a surprise to hear that morons believe vasectomies will be illegal.
It would be easy to start a rumor and have it catch: masturbation is next--punishable, like Onan, by death.
"People are seriously worried that vasectomies are going to become illegal?"
First they came for our right to castrate our children ....
GOOD. I don't care, as long as there are a lot fewer dead babies. They should have done this years ago.
Is there a downside to this phenomenon?
Isn't this just responsible male behavior by one who has not and will not want children? It's the kind of decision that could be avoided by hiding behind Roe. Now the male needs to think about the results of his actions. Seems to me it's good thing.
I would like to see a story about super-Macho-man getting a third testicle implanted!
As I have commented before, the Left just don't understand what motivates conservatives. They think it's about controlling others. No, we just don't like dead babies, and that's it. Stop killing babies, and we're good. Get a vasectomy, don't get one, dress up like Little Red Riding Hood... we don't care! Just let the babies live!
All this PRDS - Post-Roe Derangement Syndrome - makes as much sense as people committing suicide now before IT is outlawed*.
* either by repealing physician-assisted suicide in states where it is legal, or by forfeiture of the estate of the person committing suicide as in the old days.

another way for Progressive to say : I has got balls and I supports abortion
The banker is crazy like a fox. Now his name is out there as being militantly pro-choice. Many of the crazed sluts who populate the pro-abortion movement might want to make some gesture to show support and solidarity for the sacrifice he has made. Plus, he will not be paying child support and he will not have to play a rubber match in the tournament. I don't think bankers are as much of a target as NBA players, but you have to stay alert in the dating pool. It's not just trout that want to nibble on your toes when you wiggle them in the pool.
Iain Little??
His name sounds like a penis joke.
“Having kids is the best part of life. Nothing else really comes close.”
Amen.
Why do some people feel the need to announce these things publicly.
You got snipped. Big whoop. Here's a fucking cookie.
Shut up and go away.
Don't be naive.
I won't be naive if you promise to stop being an hysterical jackass.
Deal?
He can always freeze his sperm if he changes his mind. Or can he?
Does Planned Parenthood offer vasectomies? Tubal ligations? If not, why not? Is that discrimination?
So many new things to consider.
I'm thinking the children of the Zoomers is going to be very thin on progressive ideals if snipping goes large. And if not from being demographically absent then from being contrarian to their parents politics. Maybe they'll be a tattoo free generation as a show of rebellion.
They are already going after other forms of birth control. Don't be naive.
Which party supports making birth control available over the counter without a prescription and which party opposes that?
By the way, why are all the Planned Parenthood clinics shutting down after Dobbs? We were told that abortion was a very small part of their business.
A man named John Ringo wrote a series of books about a character called The Ghost. It was real alpha male fantasy stuff. Killing terrorists ang getting the girls. Explicitly anti-PC. The main character was into BDSM, and there were some pretty graphic chapters. He caught a lot of flak at the time for it. But he was shunned anyway because he was published by Baen Books.
I'm guessing that being neutered is a plus with the gals who are just looking for a workout, so it may be smart for him to do, and announce.
As for falling birthrates, the species is devolving in the direction of Idiocracy anyway. Our political system is a Kakisto-Pornocracy.
It's all so Late Imperial.
I can see desperate men skulking furtively through a new and strange world of underground snippatoria.

Stupidity and paranoia at this level look like the outcome of long-term marijuana use.
Well, the future has dodged at least Iain Little's bullets.

'He can always freeze his sperm if he changes his mind. Or can he?'
Mom, these ice cubes are cloudy and they taste funny!
I think it's good. If you know you do not want children - but you do want to have sex with women (thus spreading live sperms) ... put a stop to the misery. Your own, and a woman who might not be smart enough to use birth control and is as horny as you are.
People who want children are usually drawn to others who want children - and they make better parents.

So what color will the vasectomy ribbon be?
He's a ridiculous human being.
"Then the Roe thing happened"
Who characterizes a 'catastrophe' as a thing that happened?
Rep. Ilhan Omar ‘Some people did something’.
Then again, as we seen in one of today's post. The total devaluation of the word 'catastrophe' is dam near complete.
Mind you, not that I disagreed with the Dobbs decision. My point is the same as it has always been. The support for abortion on demand, at any time, for any reason, never seemed deep to me. The men just parroted whatever they thought the loud women wanted to hear.
---Little had always been fairly certain that children weren’t part of his life plan. For years, his wife agreed. Now, recently divorced
So she had never agreed. Which is why he had never done it before. Which is also why they are divorced, perhaps?
Doing it, at long last, makes sense in his new circumstances. I agree with those who think he knows what he is doing. Just because whatever he said to the Guardian or their reporting "deputies" was tailored to what they wanted to hear doesn't guarantee that his "reasoning" as quoted is actually the reasoning he was following.
You can't be too careful with the media.
Personally, I've scheduled a routine dental cleaning and (probably) x-ray, because I fear that the Supreme Court may soon make these procedures illegal.
Vasectomies set a novel standard of extreme for contraception in depth. Still, the second choice, her choice, his choice. Just do it, then her, or him. The wicked solution is neither a good nor exclusive choice.
Ah, "our Posterity", the hardest job you will ever love, ladies and gents.
