Carried forward from an earlier thread….

I'm Irish and Daisy is English — maybe it's a cultural thing as we're a bit more relaxed.

Reminds me of the (very funny) BBC series The Irish R.M. [R.M. = Registered Magistrate], in which an Englishman (Peter Bowles) takes a position as (basically) a justice of the peace in rural Ireland around the turn of the 20th century. Each episode typically involves a (humorous) collision between Irish (loose) and English (tight) ways of living and thought.

The series when broadcast in America (as part of PBS's Masterpiece Theatre) was hosted by British expatriate Alistair Cook who introduced the series by relating a story involving an American expatriate friend who had settled in Ireland for many years. Visiting him one time Alistair noticed that he was still driving a 1950's vintage (this was during the 70's) American car — complete with 1950's vintage American plates — license plates. He asked his friend, “Don't you ever get stopped?” His pal looked at him pityingly, and replied, “Alistair, in Ireland there's always someone who just doesn't care.” [Paraphrased from memory]

I lost my Nebraska Supreme Court appeal. Released at 3:30. Affirmed. Thankfully not a published opinion. The last name of a key witness wasn’t spelled correctly. Motion to reconsider!

Seriously, the appellee had major credibility problems and the Nebraska Supreme Court completely deferred to the trial court. All my legal assignments of error got rejected. At least it took 20 single spaced pages to beat me.

Client is in her 80s and the promissory note is in default, but no acceleration clause.

Funny headline: Megan Rapinoe Calls Out Men For Silence On Abortion Rights (HuffPo)

Like a purple-haired lesbian has to worry about getting pregnant. Stay in your lane, Megan.

Been watching the Democrat harridans who are well past menopause ranting about it. No, Maxine, nobody wants to put it in you. Same for Nancy and Fauxcahontas.

Wisconsin milkweed looks to be very tall.
Our cows are eating more burdock and elderberry leaves than I’ve ever seen before. It’s ok for them. Our pastures are short now &I’m not sure why. Things don’t seem to be growing like usual. It’s been kinda cold for a while- once things heat up it should straighten out, I hope. Lots of 1st cut.

No maternity leave. Probably covers it and more right there. Unless, of course, you provide bereavement leave. Which some do. I think they started it for miscarriages, and then saw the writing on that wall ...

Just saw some pictures of protesters in Philadelphia. I was struck by how many were wearing masks. Outdoors.

Strange how they can be so careful to protect themselves from an infinitesimal risk of getting a disease but can't seem to be able keep from getting pregnant.

The White House is refusing to share details about its coordinated efforts to engage in a federal takeover of election administration.

MOLLIE HEMINGWAY JUNE 23, 2022

'...When President Biden ordered all 600 federal agencies to “expand citizens’ opportunities to register to vote and to obtain information about, and participate in, the electoral process” on March 7, 2021, Republican politicians, Constitutional scholars, and election integrity specialists began to worry exactly what was up his sleeve.'

"...At the time the order was issued, Democrats were also hoping to pass H.R.1, a continuation of the effort to destabilize elections throughout the country via a federalized takeover of state election administrations.

Biden gave each agency 200 days to file their plans for approval by none other than Susan Rice, his hyperpartisan domestic policy advisor. Yet fully nine months after those plans were due, they are all being hidden from the public, even as evidence is emerging that the election operation is in full swing."

'...Congress passed the Hatch Act in 1939, which bans bureaucrats and bureaucracies from being involved in election activities after Democrats used Works Progress Administration programs and personnel for partisan political advantage.

Executive Order 14019 ignores that the Constitution does not give the executive branch authority over elections. That power is reserved for the states, with a smaller role for Congress. With H.R. 1 and other Democrat Party efforts to grab more control over elections have thus far failed, Congress hasn’t authorized such an expansion.

"...While the White House and agencies are steadfastly refusing to share details about how they’re complying with the executive order, who they met with to develop their plans, or how they’re justifying their involvement in something Congress has not authorized them to participate in, some details are trickling out."

[The federal agencies involved in this questionable voter registration activity include:

The Department of Labor, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, The Department of Housing and Urban Development, The Department of Education, The Department of Agriculture,
and The Department of Commerce.]

'...Biden’s plan “raises serious ethical, legal, and constitutional concerns,” wrote Rep. Ted Budd, R-N.C., along with three dozen Republican members of Congress on January 19, in a letter to the head of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), demanding more information by February 28 about the secret plot. It went unanswered.

The top Republican members of nine House committees and subcommittees likewise demanded information from Rice and the head of OMB in a letter they sent on March 29. They noted that election activity goes well beyond “the scope of each agency’s authorizing statute and mission.”

One of the concerns shared by the members was that Biden was directing agencies to work with third-party organizations. Nobody knows which third-party organizations have been approved by Rice for her political efforts, nor which are being used. They also asked how much money is being spent on the effort, which statutory authorities justify the election activities, and what steps are being taken to avoid Hatch Act violations. They received no response.

The Foundation for Government Accountability filed a lawsuit on April 20th to compel the Department of Justice to respond to the FOIA request for information. And the American Accountability Foundation (AAF) filed suit on June 16 to compel Justice to comply. Those suits are ongoing.'

Certainly looks like the Biden Administration's silent treatment is consistent with trying to hide an illegal fait accompli. There should be consequences.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement Friday, in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, that states cannot ban mifepristone, a medication that is used to bring about an abortion.

True - but they can plop a licensing tax on pharmacies and an approval procedure that will make AR-15 purchases easy. Doctors will suddenly be up to their ears in the paperwork needed to process abortion pill prescriptions, as locals assume the very role that the FDA will abandon at Biden's direction. Mifepristone is not presently banned; it is just tightly controlled by the FDA.

In the wake of the Roe v. Wade decision, we should pay homage to two people, Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Donald J. Trump. Pro-life never-Trumpers are beside themselves.

Found a good abortion issue comment on Reddit worth sharing here…

I don't care either way to be fair. But I do wonder how she felt about mandates the past couple years. I do care about hypocrisy and inconsistency. It is interesting we find bacteria on Mars and call that life. But cells in a woman's body aren't considered life on earth. There's a lot of hypocrisy going on and I don't care for it. I guess the race division isn't as effective as it used to be, now we have to move onto these issues. 😔

Anyone else tired of the use of "playbook." Donald Trump was alleged to be following "Hitler's playbook." If he was, he wasn't following it very closely.

Emily's list: "Overturning Roe v. Wade has been in the Republican playbook for nearly 50 years. We must make them pay at the ballot box."

I can't think of any other quotes, but they're out there.

"Playbook" should be retired from use except when referring to football games. Its overused.

cheap for WHO? the employee? or the company? I'm guessing that YOU haven't thought this through

boatbuilder म्हणाले...

It seems to me that responsible state attorneys general would issue statements to the effect that, in light of the SC's holding in Dobbs and its effect on pre-existing laws on the books relating to abortion, the state will maintain the status quo regarding prosecution (or more correctly non-prosecution) and enforcement until the law is clarified--either affirmed or changed--by the state legislature.
And state legislatures will convene for just that purpose.

Right?

Boatbuilder.

Wrong. Many states enacted a trigger law. New laws are in effect right now.

Nebraska tried to pass a trigger law and it failed by two votes. A Special Session will be convened but the conservatives are still two votes short. The November election will decide. Until then, abortion is still legal in NE. Democracy works.
