"... to remind the world what a magnificent monarch she has been, and what a great institution she heads. But if Andrew had persisted in trying to fight his case, the cascade of humiliating details that would have erupted about his sex life, and his long-time friendship with sex offenders, would have wrecked all that goodwill. Doubtless, [plaintiff's lawyer David] Boies would have quizzed Andrew specifically about conversations he’s had with the Queen about the allegations. The prospect of Her Majesty being dragged into this repulsive sewer at the age of 95, with all the salacious global headlines that would have inevitably ensued, was an outrageous, totally unacceptable situation which could have inflicted terminal damage on the Monarchy.... There can be no way back to any form of public life for the Queen’s second, and some say favourite, son. He must be immediately stripped of all remaining titles and privileges that come with being a Prince and despatched [sic] to the ignominious obscurity that his appalling behaviour demands."
From "COWARD'S WAY OUT/Prince Andrew’s a snivelling little coward whose denials weren’t worth the paper they were written on, says Piers Morgan" (The Sun)(commenting on Andrew's settling the case for what is said to be £12 million).
What is cowardly about sacrificing his right to defend himself, spending a great deal of money, and withdrawing into obscurity for the sake of the Queen? It sounds as though Morgan is miffed at that he won't get the spectacle of a public trial with all the gory details and royal squirming that he'd been hankering after.

Ann... maybe Morgan just wants JUSTICE... and not a political cop out.
We seem to give the ruling class so much leeway...
The Decline and Fall of Practically Everybody (Will Cuppy) goes through a lot of monarchs in history. Many footnotes.
Is he sacrificing for the Queen, or does he think he is likely to be convicted, and is doing it for himself?
The rogering he gets for the underage rogering he got.
Don't think I've ever seen Althouse use the word 'hankering'.
As a royal subject Piers Morgan is a bigger embarrassment to the crown than anything the royals have done. His worry about any details is unfounded in recent history. So far the most disturbing details of Epstein et al have been hidden from public view and will likely remain that way.
One senses an unseemly shifting of excuses, whether true cowardice or simply skeevy morals, that progressed from “it wasn’t me I wasn’t there” to “maybe I was there” to “who can believe this golddigging street urchin” to “it was just this one girl” to “you know she actually was of age under English law” to “royalty can’t be extradited” before ending up at “fucking A I better settle this now!” At no step did he exhibit moral character or the acceptance of responsibility. He literally lost his title before taking a positive first step towards acknowledging his victim.

A conviction and jail sentence for Andrew's actions might have been more satisfactory as a public resolution of criminal behavior, but the victim decided to take the cash. In days past, she might have ended up in chains on a slow boat to Australia, so let's accept that there has been some progress over the past centuries in holding the royal family accountable for its misbehavior.
And the Queen should celebrate her jubilee to the fullest. She has earned a party, if only for keeping her family business in operation over the past decades despite the family she has to be in business with.
Like Michael Jackson before him, paying off your victim makes you guilty in the eyes of the world.
"Is he sacrificing for the Queen, or does he think he is likely to be convicted, and is doing it for himself?"
The chance of conviction in this lawsuit was zero. That's a fact.

I've never understood this lawsuit. He was a cad, but he broke no English or American laws.
I think people are able to separate the activities of a child from those of a parent. For example, I don't blame Chelsea Clinton (blanking on her husband's name -- did she take it?) for taking all the plums offered her because of her parents. I blame the companies for using her to curry favor with the parents. It's the parents that are toxic in the Clinton case, not the child, rather than the reverse for Good Queen Bess (II).
Why would anyone blame a parent for the activity of their very old kid?
Still, none of this business with Andrew is at the same level as what that hussy Mehgham Markle did to slander the Royal family.
Andrew has spent his life in luxury, but the price of that is the willingness to fall on his sword in order to protect the monarchy. Maybe if his nephew Harry hadn’t married so inappropriately, there might have been enough excess good will that his damage to the monarchy could have been swept under the rug.
Funny out of the visitors to Epstein Island including BILL CLINTON, only Prince Andrew gets sued and is in the news. And what happened to the Maxwell trial? Why is everyone in the MSM glossing that over?
Prince Andrew is no worse King Edward. Except it was easy for a Prince to have a string of mistresses and bimbos back in 1896 or 1908. Anyway, the Royal Family is a disaster area. But they serve a function and they're a tourist attraction so they'll never go away.
MadisonMan, an example of blaming a parent for the activity of their very old kid: Joe Biden uses Hunter, his drug addled, whoring son, to procure huge business deals with foreigners, by which Joe profited. As for Chelsea, I missed her work for NBC. Must have been washing my hair or something when she was reporting for them. Was it as wonderful as her $600,000 annual pay would suggest it should have been?
Great point Bruce. Thanks for confirming that in the minds of Trumpers, rape and pedophilia are lesser offenses than miscegenation.
add to that her colony over here imploding. Probable resignation in disgrace of her PM due to his handing of the trucker strike.
I can see what's going on in North America's hat leading to a peaceful revolution and Canadian independence.
That will look good on her obituary "Queen Elizabeth, who lost Great Britain's last remaining major colony..."

More class from Howard. I guess you favor LA airheads who make their spouse look like the idiot he is.

Howard is on fire this morning. I'm waiting to hear Bill Clinton explain that painting Epstein had hung so prominently.
It sounds as though Morgan is miffed at that he won't get the spectacle of a public trial with all the gory details and royal squirming that he'd been hankering after.
Snotty comments are his job. I can see why he'd want a trial to use as fodder to make snotty comments and why he'd make the above snotty comment when he's denied the former.
Howard, thank's for reminding me of this story about Willie and Markle:
https://nypost.com/2022/02/11/prince-harry-meghan-markles-mansion-engulfed-by-foul-smell/
There is something fishy in Montecito.
A putrid smell is said to have inundated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $14.65 million, nine-bedroom, 19-bathroom mansion, according to several reports.
Neighbors in the upscale Santa Barbara community “disgusted” by the pungent fragrance have reportedly complained about the issue to no avail.
Royalty always stinks up any neighborhood. Especially British royalty.

"Protecting the safety of the Queen is a task that is gladly accepted by Police Squad. For no matter how silly the idea of having a Queen might be to us, as Americans we must be gracious and considerate hosts."
What is cowardly about sacrificing his right to defend himself, spending a great deal of money, and withdrawing into obscurity for the sake of the Queen?
Mike (MJB Wolf) did a good job answering that. it's because a few months ago he was calling her a liar when he KNEW she was telling the truth, and now he's tacitly admitting it in order to make the case go away.
Besides, what makes you think he chose to "sacrificed his right to defend himself"? According to Piers Morgan, there's still more that the Queen can do to him if he didn't settle.
So he settled

Poor Howard, always stuck with his racism.
Meghan Markle's problem are all due to the content of her character, not the color of her skin
“Great point Bruce. Thanks for confirming that in the minds of Trumpers, rape and pedophilia are lesser offenses than miscegenation”
Rape and pedophilia? Having sex with fully mature teenage women is not pedophilia. The underaged girl that he is usually shown with hardly looks like a child needing protection. And the only way you get to rape is through Statutory Rape. In the UK, where Randy Andy is from, the age of consent is apparently 16.
One of the keys to Epstein’s success appears to be to have employed very nubile 16 and 17 year olds. He would set them up with his targets, like Slick Willie, Randy Andy, etc, video record his employees doing what comes naturally, and then use the fact that the girls, despite looking old enough, weren't, along with his recorded videos, as blackmail.
Any Merkle’s race has nothing to do with her inappropriateness. It is rather that her husband was also raised in luxury, and the luxury and notoriety that attracted her to him came at a price - doing his duty to the monarchy. She refused. She wanted the perks, and not the matching responsibilities. Contrast her with her sister-in-law Kate, or even her step mother-in-law, Camilla, who weren’t raised to this life, but buckled down, learned what was needed, and willingly do their part, and more, to support their husbands and the monarchy.
But then, for leftists, everything is about race - even when, most often, it is not.
Many thanks to Andrew for the Police squad quote. I do believe that I would rather have Frank Drebin in the White House than Mr. Biden. I would also rather have Bertie Wooster, who actually has some nobility in his soul despite his negligible intellect, in charge of Canada than Justin Trudeau.
The girl in the photo looks awfully happy for someone who's just been rape-raped. How was Andrew supposed to know how Maxwell procured her? Right before the settlement was announced, the DM reported that she couldn't find the original of the famous photo, which Andrew claimed is fabricated.
It was clever of the royals to put "Kingdom" in the very name of the country. Otherwise, they might already be gone.
I did not have sexual relations with that girl/woman, Ms. Giuffre.

It was all part of a vast right-wing conspiracy
