"Could the Soup Nazi have secretly been a member of the gazpacho police? We asked Larry Thomas, who played the character, for his take..."

"... on the moment as soups and Nazis march back into the headlines.... 'How in the world can a grown person, who grew up in the 20th century, not know what the word Gestapo is?' he asks. 'They say "You can’t write this shit." It’s beyond you can’t write this shit.... If she got the word wrong with a nonsensical word, it would be one thing, but I knew as soon as she actually used the name of a soup that I was in trouble... And then she turns around and makes an actual Soup Nazi reference [on Twitter], you know, the "no soup for you, and you’re gonna end up in the goulash." I’m sure somebody wrote that for her. She can’t possibly be that funny.'"

From "The Soup Nazi on Marjorie Taylor Green’s gazpacho police: ‘I knew I was in trouble’/Larry Thomas, the actor behind the Seinfeld character, gives his take on the viral gaffe: ‘You can’t write this shit.’"

We Republicans have Marjorie Taylor Greene. The Democrats have Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters, and Frederica Wilson. We do you focus on the gaffes of the blonde? Is it because you have this racist notion that one cannot expect much from black politicians?

Biden makes a worse gaffe every fucking day and he’s Commander-in-Chief.

Lefties pounce….

Ya know, now that we have the results of the Biden administration these little comic rants about the right coming from the left have lost any gravitas. If you thought Joe Biden was a good idea…

Marjorie Taylor Greene > YOU ARE HERE

…that’s all…

rehajm said...

Of course, what she meant to say…

Now do Joe Bidens speech everyday. When they have NOTHING else, pick on somebody who says a word wrong.

To recap Larry Thomas: 1- You can’t write that shit…2- I’m sure somebody wrote that for her…

Did “you’ll end up in the goulash” come out well after the “gazpacho” gaffe? If so, I’d be inclined to credit a pretty clever comeback from a very embarrassing error.

I generally put MTG in the “yeah, she’s crazy, but she’s our crazy” category. But wow, this one’s pretty mind-bending.

iowan2 said...

Is this a planned mistake?

It has garnered (TM) way more attention than using the right word would have gotten.

Trying very hard to come up with some other soup-based puns. Coming up empty, but confident the commentariat here won’t let me down.

I'm glad I don't have a job where a slip of the tongue matters so much. It's ridiculous that we think our nation must be ruled by people who never ever say anything unscripted.

"Gazpacho police" is the kind of gaffe Obama would make almost weekly (like the "57 states") and his even dumber vice-president makes daily.

Some billionaire pays a team of people to make these kinds of tweets, but don't worry, they are doing it all for "the little. guy" because billionaires are all on the side of the "little guy," if by "little guy" you mean Jeff Bezos.

Her little screed on Pelosi would never have (cough) garnered attention had it not been for the soupy misspeak. Well done MTG.

You know what's really funny? That these people think MJG is so much more familiar with the term "gazpacho" than "gestapo" that she accidently used the soup for the Nazi. How likely is that? Is it really inconceivable to them that she was adding a layer of ridicule to her insult?

Even the person who thought of the soup Nazi and interviewed him about it couldn't imagine that she thought of the soup Nazi and was making a clever joke.

Gazpacho is not a soup. Not to me, it isn’t.

Let’s go Brandon = Pelosi’s Gazpacho Police
IOW gazpacho is a humorous euphemism and kind of funny, I like the gassy reference to Madame Speaker Pelosi as well.

I didn't think it was a gaffe at all--I thought it was pretty funny and sly. So what if someone else wrote it? Delivery was perfect.

I'm leaning towards it was serendipity and intentional. When crafting the statement MTG flashed gazpacho gestapo, serendipitously. Then she consciously rolled with gazpacho as a troll.

I do this occasionally to ferret out the supercilious ninnies who's only form of intelligence is limited to remembering words spelling grammar etc.

When new rules for congressional stock trading were front paged a little while back, my browser's news feed highlighted a $3,000 Marjorie Taylor Greene trade. No mention of any other congressperson's $millions. So yeah, the knives are out for her.

On the other hand, what a brilliant way to get this wide coverage in the media.

And "gazpacho police" could also imply the Spanish Inquisition.

It's just a bit of confefe.

RNB nails it! Why is it that some of the dumbest members of Congress regularly come from Georgia?

Yancey Ward said...

With the contempt I have for Nancy Pelosi, I might describe her and her henchmen as Gazpacho Police, too.

On a serious note, though- the brain is wired in such a way that similar sounding or similarly beginning words can get mixed up as you speak and as you write. It is why people mistype their, there, and they're all the time. The two words Greene mixed up have the same starting syllable, and both are unusual words for an English speaker- probably not words a person will say more than once or twice in a given year. In short- you aren't consciously choosing the exact word in every word you speak- it is all a kind of muscle memory- you start saying or typing a word, and the brain sends your tongue or fingers the rest of it. Sometimes the brain fucks up.

The younger you are, the more likely it is that "Gazpacho" is a word more familiar to you than "Gestapo." I suppose that MTG just misspoke Bidenesquely, but it wouldn't surprise me if she or other, even younger people had never heard the word "Gestapo" pronounced.

Is there some 20 year rule in popular culture? Sixties popular culture was still saturated with World War II. By the Seventies, the country had moved on to Happy Days and Grease. Seventies kids had Fifties dances. Eighties kids had Sixties dances. Are kids now having Oughties dances?

Godwins law says not to mention NAZIs and by corollary Gesyspo.

Saying "gazpacho" Instead is a good way to keep the fascist's away.

Speaking g like this it is certainly easy to make a flub. I just did a worse one Tuesday mentioning pepsi in a workshop at a Coke bottler.

If she didn't do it on purpose she should have. I agree with others here that it was brilliant

It can be properly attributed to the Every Child Left Behind (ECLB) first-order forcing or a climate model of inclusive exclusion in several Democrat districts. #HateLovesAbortion

Here is what Andrea Widburg at American Thinker said about it... "I'd better open this post by saying that I think Marjorie Taylor Greene is not just intelligent, but also one of the most principled and courageous people in Congress. America would be a better place if every Republican had her virtues. Having said that, though, it seems clear that she may suffer from a form of dyslexia, that sees her scramble words that sound similar. Democrats, rather than acting with the compassion they insist is their monopoly, crudely and cruelly attacked her for this obvious verbal slip.

What happened is simple: while appearing on a news show, Greene scrambled "Gestapo" and "gazpacho." For people like me — and, apparently, like Greene — the circuits in her brain knew that one of the words was correct and sent the wrong word to her mouth:"

That gives Marjorie Taylor Greene some pretty good cover from Nazi accusations. "Pfft. Are you serious? I don't even know the difference between gazpacho and Gestapo."

I think it was a purposeful "gaffe;" something she learned from Trump. It must be hard for her to be off twitter where she had hundreds of thousands of followers, mostly non fans who just wanted to see what bat-shit craziness she was spewing that day. She's an attention whore; doesn't matter to her if it's positive or negative. If people are talking about her she's happy.

Hey, n.n., we did give you Cynthia McKinney, but also Sam Nunn, Newt Gingrich, David Perdue, Tom Price, Kelley Loeffler (smart, brave, and screwed out of her seat by Steve Bannon's incoherent "strategy), Richard Russell, Larry McDonald. I could go on, but why bother? No total endorsement of any of them except the underrated Loeffler and McDonald's stance against communism. Even my former rep., the reprehensible and dishonest Doug Collins, is no dummy.

Now you do your state. Greene is someone I would not wish to support. I prefer policy and effectiveness over personality, like all thinking voters.
