I don't think that's getting by the Facebook censors.

I have no idea what this is other than a quirky travel ad for Iceland. It did however work for me in that it makes me consider going there next year in the summer. Now if whoever did this can do the same for Greenland that would be impressive.

Great thing about the Icelandverse is you don't need to suck in your gut when enjoying the hot springs.

Vel gert, Iceland!

Love it. Having been there I definitely recommend going to the Blue Lagoon. Even if it is power plant waste water.

But, but climate change.

Seriously, what's best way to save the planet: traveling to Iceland or in the metaverse? (Staying home and walking around a lake not an option.)

Not particularly original.

That’s very funny, but I’m still keeping the Facebook / Meta Platforms, Inc. stock that I bought using my iPhone while sitting on the toilet on the day of its IPO.

"Chief Visionary Officer"- nice!
I'm reminded of the late 80's at Apple, A select number of employees were given titles with "Evangelist" in them. They were the first ones let go when sales tanked.

OT

But then last night, things boiled over into outright scandal. The Times suddenly started publishing privileged communications between Project Veritas and its legal team. Those messages apparently came from one of O’Keefe’s phones.

The New York Times has O'Keefe's communications with his lawyer obviously leaked by the FBI raids.

The New York Times is defending itself from a defamation lawsuit brought by Project Veritas.

This is straight up Nazi bullshit. The Regime and it's cronies have gone too far.

Only a deeply corrupt amoral person could support them at this point.

Only a coward would refuse to resist.

Where in the hell did they find this guy? He looks like the android antagonist in a really bad Sci-Fi movie.

......and what about that accent? I've been to Iceland. They live on London time, but they all have US accents. I was astounded at the hegemony of US TV.

The Canucks have a stronger accent.

Now, I've picked up the impression over the past couple of years surfing the internet, that the Icelanders themselves aren't all that happy with the amount of tourism that their island is attracting. The "look" but "don't touch" is a real-life sore point.

I did appreciate the dig at Facebook though. :-)

Love it! I have seen about 25% of Iceland, have ridden the horses (smaller than ponies), been in a white-out on a glacier (very spooky), totally dig the place. And experienced it all non-virtually, in analog!

"without being super weird"
means
"I'm cool, and not autistic, unlike Zuckerberg."

I'm assuming they chose that guy as an intentional dig at Mark Zuckerberg. And given that everyone in Iceland is probably related, they likely didn't have to look that far. I once commented to an Icelandic coworker that they were probably all a bunch of inbred Vikings, he said, "Well, it could be worse. We could be the Faroe Islands. They only have 40,000 people."

I visited Iceland just at the beginning of their tourism boom. It was really great. Now if I ever go back I can complain about how I was there before it was cool. If you go, try the hot dogs. They're delicious.

Very funny. Iceland's advertising has to be cool to distract us from the fact that the country is so cold and barren. But still, it's beautiful.

At times like this I rely on Althouse’s description and the first few comments to understand video posts. I generally don’t watch internet videos. So this particular post, absorbing these first 11 comments for context has been interesting. In fact it’s one of the reasons comments here keep interested in some types of Althouse content. But the less Althouse input on a post the more I rely on you guys (which I use here in a gender neutral way) to understand the content in question. In the end I understand it’s parody not the Evil Z himself and several of you have been to Iceland. Nice work.

I think you have to have thought that the Metaverse was going to be "real" and fun. Then you see this guy contrasting the rich experiences you enjoy in Iceland as compared to the Metaverse. You see the ice- and snow-covered tundra - a wealth of possibilities, directions under times arrow compared to the white Metaverse walls; the geysers, Northern lights, waterfalls, horses. (And Leif Erickson's sister, Gudrun, went to Vinland after he did and had a child there. So she discovered America and had a child there. Back at ya, Columbus.) So all sorts of possibilities out doors in Iceland. And, Wisconsinites - the winter temperature in Iceland is never lower than 20 degrees F and it's usually higher. So in Iceland, it's spring-time all year round really, while in the Metaverse, I suspect that there is an enduring cold that deepens with time spent there.

Well done, Iceland. I've been to Iceland twice.

If you count refueling as going to Iceland.

I've never seen a greater concentration of multi-national Asians---Indians, Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, Indonesians...----outside Asia itself, than I did in Iceland a few years ago.

Cold, green, almost no trees, spectacular glaciers and waterfalls everywhere, tiny horses.... they were seeing wonders entirely outside their experience. And obviously, they had the money to hop on airplanes and go there.

Asians made up fully 80% of the crowds seeing the sights along the South coast. Hundreds at every stop.

THAT is a very new phenomenon: so much for Gunnar Myrdal's pessimism!!

Which is why, if I were to go back, I would immediately hop on a plane and go north, rent a car and drive eastward. The country is fully wired, so you can easily make reservations for places to stay, and everyone speaks English. A much better experience--not because of Asians, but because you can enjoy it all without noisy crowds bustling around you.

Did you find this on Ad Age? Great find! This is probably one of the greatest ads of all time! I want to go to Icelandverse, not Facebook Metaverse.

A couple I know toured Iceland several years back. Right before it got popular to do so. Amazing otherworldly landscapes, is their description.

I probably wont ever get there. if you're like me, you still want to see far off places - Youtube has some relaxation videos of Iceland and Norway that are stunning scenic tours... if you can stay awake. I think it's youtube -

If you can't get to Iceland, watch Ben Stiller's "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." A good chunk of it is set there. Plus, it's a good movie.
