"McAuliffe told a modest crowd outside a Fairfax brewery Monday night at his final rally. 'He is doing an event with Donald Trump here in Virginia.' That was a lie."
"Trump wasn’t in Virginia and he never campaigned with Youngkin.... Thirty miles away, at the Loudoun County Fairgrounds, a crowd several times the size of McAuliffe’s was waiting for Youngkin to take the stage. You got a hint of why McAuliffe was desperate to manufacture the fake Trump event... [H]is Monday audiences in Richmond and Fairfax, where we caught up with him, were modest and listless.
Youngkin’s were large and rollicking, with many of the trappings of a MAGA rally — a similar dad rock playlist, hats and flags and T-shirts paying homage to the former president — but, to the great disappointment of Democrats, not Trump himself."

It's almost as if they'd have nothing to say at all if Democrats didn't have large lies to offer up.
Whatever happened to the Democratic Party of old? I mean, they were always lefties, but there used to be sane people over there.
Doesn't this look like the run up to the 2020 presidential election? Trump with massive crowds and Biden with a scattering of a few people.
Clearly Terry McAwful will win this in a walk.
I expect the vote count by the end of today will show Youngkin won.
I expect by Friday, after Loudon county finishes counting, Youngkin will have lost.
I sincerely hope I’m wrong.
In other news, water has been found to be wet…

Early reports of Dem cheating with absentee ballots.
The federal and state governments should make election cheating serious felonies and deny bail to those charged with the crime. Election crimes actually do destroy our democracy.
Democrats don't go to rallies much since Covid. So what, they still vote.
This time last year, the ruthless Obama Nation you seem to admire obliterated any fair, honest voting process in our national election.
Y'all deserve every bit of chaos Americans can muster.
Trump is the guy who takes no shit. That's the spirit that's rubbing off.
Also it's a reason to reelect Trump. Other take no shit guys tend to get rolled.
Former president Donald Trump urged Virginia voters on the eve of Election Day to cast ballots for Republican gubernatorial nominee Glenn Youngkin, headlining an evening tele-rally and releasing multiple statements praising the first-time candidate, who has been walking a fine line between pursuing the pro-Trump base and appealing to moderates who probably will decide the outcome of the election.

I know, it was virtual, not in person.
Virginia is now a blue state. The vote count may or may not be announced “at the end of the day.”
I hope McAuliffe gets beat like the proverbial rented mule, by serious numbers, so no cries of "fraud"!
...because if it doesn't, people won't believe it, and I don't like that kind of chaos.
Then start reflecting that conviction. Your preferred party put us in it.
Sweaty, desperate Ron Popeil lookalike.
I look at Terry and think, "Would anybody really buy a Veg-O-Matic or a Pocket Fisherman from this guy?"
One of the problems the DNC-Media has is perfectly personified by McAwful, and that is their extremely abusive relationship with the truth. During Trump’s term they claimed that Trump was such an extraordinary liar that they simply must keep a running total of his voluminous lies. As usual they undermined their own position by telling ten lies about Trump for every lie they accused him of to the extreme that they coopted the FBI, the FISA court and the embedded Obama holdovers to manufacture evidence against Trump. They continue to gaslight Americans about the insurrection that wasn’t, the economic boom that was, and the ridiculous claim that they are “fixing” the border Trump broke. So of course Terry M lies about Trump easily and often. That’s what the Monoparty is and does. Fewer free Americans are buying their bullshit lately. A Youngkin win would help restore some norms for this weary country.
I just don't understand why the Democrats aren't able to field better politicians in such DC-adjacent states like Virginia.
Don't they have -anybody- better at doing politics than Terry McAuliffe? It's not that he's lying but that he's so bad at it. They've got to have loads of DC area Dems, and some of them cannot be so bad at this.
There are so many ways the major issues of this election could have been finessed, not just CRT, but also parental access to curricula, etc. Have they stopped training politicians how to blow hot air?
Can't anybody play this damn game? I'm just befuddled.
"It even made poor Terry McAuliffe lie about it."
No. The spirit of Trump didn't make him do it, normal Dem cynicism and dishonesty made him do it. The "spirit of Trump" is just another progressive tool.
If Youngkin wins, I will rejoice. Not so much for his policies and plans, about which I know pretty much nothing. But for the potential rescue of our electoral system from the rigging which we saw last year and which appears to be growing unchecked across the land.
If instead McAuliffe wins, it will confirm my belief in the shameless and wholesale corruption of this essential democratic process, and thus I will be spared the trouble of ever voting again.
I'm thinking the Dems will never lose again. But I'm old and cynical.
Youngkin last night: "Let me be really clear: we will teach accelerated math, we will award advanced diplomas, we will teach all history, the good and the bad," Youngkin said.
"America is the greatest country on the planet — we know it — we have an amazing history but we also have some dark and abhorrent chapters," he explained. "We must teach them all. We can't know where we're going unless we know where we have come from."
"What we won't do is teach our children to view everything through a lens of race where we divide them into buckets and one group's an oppressor and one other group's a victim and we pit them against each other and we steal their dreams,"
I really like this perspective on teaching our history and our values.
I hope McAuliffe loses because, as with the California recall, it will confirm that partisanship is so important to enough voters that there is little hope in ever getting a better class of leaders.
Good point, Ann. Maybe you are right and a McAuliffe triumph would cause massive stop the steal chaos. You've convinced me to pray to Gaia for Terry's victory.
I like how you admit to give in to the conspiracy bullies. Greta might say you are under the psychological control of Stockholm Syndrome.
Lying about Trump is like Bible thumping, it's a signal to everybody who already believes that you are mouthing an agreed upon fantasy and the fantasy is the proof.
"...and I don't like that kind of chaos."
Would you like it better if voting were restricted to those who show up in person at the polls on election day (maybe extend the polls to two days including a Sunday) with proper ID? The "that kind of chaos" factor would be limited.
Nobody knows who cast ballots in 2020.
Well your right. I will not believe it. This election is kind of a bell weather to me. Not for if the R or D are trending, but for how bad the system is rigged.
It even made poor Terry McAuliffe lie about it.
i think we could say, that Every word out of Terry's mouth is a lie; including And and The
certainly hope the vote count at the end of the day shows that McAuliffe has lost
Oh, don't Worry! the count at the end of the day WILL show McAuliffe has lost.
of course; by morning.... Once Fairfax has finished "counting" their votes....
All politicians lie, but Democrats have made it a high art.
Terry didn't need the spirit of Trump to lie : )
Lots of lies. No fact checks..... Smells like a Democrat in here.
McAuliffe is the worst kind of politician, an example of why the founders wanted limited government.
I don't like that kind of chaos.
Isn't an obsession with aesthetics a sign of a collapsing regime?
#McDesperate #flopsweat… the former governor is showing the stress of being associated with the aging buffoon in the White House.
In other news, forensic analysis has shown the Southwest Airlines pilot had a hot mic moment and was really expressing consternation with the plane in front of his when he allegedly said, “Let’s Go Braniff!”
McAuliffe’s campaign has a whiff of death about it.
This campaign is a very good reason why not to vote early unless you have a damn good reason such as being out of town / state / country on Election Day! I wonder how many early McAuliffe voters regret rushing to vote when early voting opened. McAuliffe showed his true colors in the past several weeks, such as insulting the intelligence of the citizens of Virginia that parents have no right to have a say in their children’s education or stating that Virginia public schools don’t teach Critical Race Theory when not only does the state’s education department stated it does on its website and that it was instituted when he previously was governor. I vote in person Election Day to gather as much info on the candidates as possible until the last moment - last November was an exception as I was infected with Covid and needed to get a mail in ballot at almost the last possible moment.
Do vibrant and enthusiastic crowds trump Democratic-controlled voting processes?
The Fox News website said Randi Weingarten was the guest at McAwful's final campaign event. Ya know the lady that said she will care for children more than teachers when they start paying union dues.
I'm sure tons of people will say vote fraud, Youngkin's going to crush it, etc.
Frankly, I hope McAuliffe actually has juiced the vote enough to pull it out. It'll be an excellent lesson for the whole country. Degenerate raping little girls in their schools? Dems win! Terrible candidate and terrible President with zero enthusiasm? Dems win! Absolute failure of a legislative agenda? Dems win! National supply chain crisis? It's a one party state, you stupid plebs, so in case this needs to be said yet again- DEMS WIN!
It'll do more for my cause than a Youngkin win could. And considering how much damage a 12 point swing away from Biden would do, that's quite the claim.
My source-
McAuliffe’s decision to have Weingarten speak at rally mocked by Republicans

The spirit of Trump is pervasive and evasive. It even made poor Terry McAuliffe lie about it.
Yes, poor Terry McAuliffe. Poor, POOR Terry McAuliffe! Althouse cries terrible, big TEARS over one of her beloved Democrats.
I certainly hope the vote count at the end of the day shows that McAuliffe has lost, because if it doesn't, people won't believe it, and I don't like that kind of chaos.
Get ready for chaos. You affluent white female liberals (AWFLs) are a key Democrat constituency. You can end chaos anytime by voting for the other party and making it clear to people like Ben Wikler that the voting for Republicans might, possibly, maybe end when the obvious large-scale cheating ends. But you won’t, so learn to enjoy chaos.
If McAuliffe "wins" the state will be ungovernable.
More shocking than a possible Younkin win is that Trump's ego didn't blow this whole thing up. His immolation of the double Georgia Senate races that cost Republicans the US Senate had me worried ... again.
Trump lives rent free in Progressive heads. They will NEVER get over him beating them and making them fools.
BTW, Fairfax County and Richmond are Democrat strongholds in this state. That McAuliffe feels the need to campaign there in the closing days is a very bad sign for him. Meanwhile, Loudoun County has been incandescent blue in the past few elections. That Youngkin is campaigning there is another bad sign for the Democrats in general and McAuliffe in particular.
Trump's big lie must be working if AA now thinks that way. He will claim full credit for victory tonight and shout "stolen" for defeat.
"I certainly hope the vote count at the end of the day shows that McAuliffe has lost, because if it doesn't, people won't believe it, and I don't like that kind of chaos."
I'd don't like that kind of chaos either, but you know what I really, really hate? Ballot box stuffing, vote harvesting, cheating at elections, and other favorite Democrat felonies that go unpunished so often, they're not even mentioned anymore.
The way to get people to believe in the voting system again, is to get rid of mail in ballots. Show up to the polls, show an ID, and cast a damn vote. The only people who should be allowed mail ins are people who are physically unable to get to the polls. No more 4 weeks of voting. No more 2 weeks waiting for the final vote tally.
That will restore belief in the system.
As for Terry "White women need to be replaced by POC's at teaching jobs". I think he will win. You simply have too many yellow dog democrats and liberal/left white women in VA. Republicans never want to face the fact that demographics is destiny. Its just a simple math problem. If blacks vote 80-90 percent D, and other minorities vote 60-40 D, the only way the R can win is by getting 60 percent or more of the white vote. And if white women are voting 55-45 R, the D will win. That's it.
Love Trump or hate Trump, he has had a monumental effect on American politics, providing a focus for populist discontent. The only person that had that kind of effect in American history that I can think of is William Jennings Bryan who, while personally unsuccessful in his search for political office, did bring about change.
This is why it's so cute when lifelong politicians, and lifelong Republicans, get irate about "Trump's lying".
Liz Cheney isn't going on TV today to denounce McAuliffe.
That's why she has no standing to denounce Trump.
He's a Clinton crony. That's enough reason to vote against him for me.
It's been said before, and bears repeating: McAuliffe lies as easily as your run of the mill "LLR".
McAuliffe doesn't need any actual supporters or voters.
He just got a judge to allow a bunch of illegal mail-in and absentee ballots to be included in the election.
That is the lie; the real dishonesty in this campaign. Either own Trump, or disown him.
I get it: The McAuliffe statement that was literally false, that wasn't a lie. The "lie" was Youngkin's failure to talk about what you wanted him to talk about.
Readering: "Trump's big lie must be working if AA now thinks that way."
Has readering ever disavowed the non-stop serial conspiracy hoaxes he/she/xe has been pushing for over 5 years?
I'm thinking no, but happy to be updated if I've got that wrong.
Readering could perhaps start with the collusion hoax, dossier hoax, Alfa bank/server hoax, money laundering hoaxes to start and then, after that, we'll list out the next 35 or so that have been debunked but never addressed by readering.
You know, just to catch up on "big lies".
If at the end of the day the vote count shows McAuliffe lost, the vote count will simply continue until he wins. That is how the vote count has been done now for several election cycles.
John: "Do vibrant and enthusiastic crowds trump Democratic-controlled voting processes?"
Nope.
And the dems just got another John Roberts-approved democratical judge to throw out MORE election voting integrity safeguards related to signatures and social security numbers for absentee and mail-in ballots.
McAuliffe by 4%.
meep: "I just don't understand why the Democrats aren't able to field better politicians in such DC-adjacent states like Virginia."
Once you controll the voting processes, have judges lined up to give you everything you want and you've weaponized federal and state law enforcement and justice officials, you can field anyone you want and win everytime.
It's what the democraticals/LLR's have been setting up for decades and we are probably too far gone at this point to roll it back. Impossible? No. Likely? No.
So get ready as the democraticals/LLR's continue to tee up their version of what is happening in Australia/New Zealand and elsewhere because they've made it pretty clear that is the plan.
Youngkin appears live at Loudoun County Fairgrounds for a stump speech. Trump is not there. Trump participates in a tele-rally that Youngkin does not participate in. Am I straight so far? Did the Youngkin campaign set up the tele-rally?
Trump is a symptom.
This is a fight over who controls the moneybags. The Dems are top-down types all the way. The opposition is fundamentally populist. In 2016 Trump had the first successful populist presidential campaign since Andrew Jackson. The governing cliques in both parties hated that, and they have used every means to destroy the symptom without really thinking about what is wrong with the globalist initiatives and the divisive identity politics that they have embraced.
The fundamental driving force behind Trump's power is the idea that the USA should look to the interests of its people first. You can have a welfare state or you can have open borders, but you can't have both. And if you choose open borders, there should be a strong civic culture and a "melting pot" approach to civic life. The governing cliques have chosen to try to have both open borders and a welfare state. It isn't going to work.
Playbook is unreadable with the bold and all caps words interspersed throughout the article.
I also noted the Facebook ad. Shocking.
Wisconsin just found 40 some illegal ballots cast at one retirement home in 2020, but most secure election ever!
I'm sure Virginia will be the same.
The purported Bush line, “missed me yet” was way ahead of its time.
Has McAuliffe campaigned on ANY policies that are viewed positively by the majority of Virginians?
But then again this didn't mater for Biden.
TDS is more resistant to treatment than Covid-19.
And the little fake Tranny boy that Virginia moved around to protect because he was raping school girls just admitted, he just wanted sex with girls. Every Conservative that was bashed when we balked at letting boys in the locker rooms and bathrooms were just vindicated. Progressivism is regressive.

This campaign is a very good reason why not to vote early
This campaign, among many others,, shows why early voting shouldn't exist- it should be "Election Day", not week or month.
There should be a strictly limited class of absentee ballots. Military personnel and families stationed away from their homes, diplomatic and other government personnel stationed away from their homes. If you choose to be on vacation rather than vote- that's your voting choice. Have surgery scheduled for election day? Too bad. Have to be out of town for work? Oh, well. Tough luck.

Because they no longer have to. Given mail in voting regulations, the Democrats could literally run a horse for governor of Virginia and win. I find myself in the same position as docrev above- it might be better for the country in the long run for McAuliffe to pull this out in a week long avalanche of late arriving "votes".
Prediction:
From the time the polls close until sometime after midnight, Youngkin will be leading by a substantial margin, which by sunrise, will completely disappear. And then McAuliffe wins.
"Like the last time "people" didn't believe it."
Doubting the humanity of your political opponents is a dangerous thing to do in a democracy. While you and I may disagree with them on the results of the 2020 election, they are still our fellow citizens. Trying to dehumanize them may feed your unhealthy obsession with Orange the Clown, but it won't get you any closer to understanding what's really going on.

terry's been lying for 20 years, and grifting for global crossing and green tech, (that ended up making no cars) if he told me the sky was blue, i'd double check it,
McAuliffe and his media mouthpieces really, really, really, wanted Youngin to do a rally with Trump as the main guest speaker. In their mind, it would be complete with the tiki-touch Lincoln Project supporters surrounding the stage. The media had their stories all lined up and ready to go in response to the evil racist Trump who is so full of white supremacy who appeared at this mythical rally to support Yougin. Then the "Youngin is a Trumpkin white supremacist" stories could be aired on a ten-times daily basis complete with pictures.
They are so ticked that it didn't happen so they are creating a rally out of whatever pieces of information they can put together.
I bet if you went to a heavily democrat precinct today and spoke with those in line and ask them if they heard about the Youngin rally where Trump was on-stage with Youngin, 90% of them would say "yes" and tell you how awful it was.
So don’t try to run your sort of mindless bullshit in me, because when it comes to Trump I am not playing around.
I admit to snarfing my chocolate milk when I read this particular bit of bluster.
Donald Trump must be tossing and turning at night, worrying that an unsuccessful, irrelevant failure of a human being is NOT. PLAYING. AROUND.
Fuck off. I’m not taking any of that shit from you, sport
I have always been impressed by the civility and cogent arguments of DNC activists/leftists.
Well, maybe not.
If Right-center people want change in the Blue states, they'll have to do more than just cry and Nominate/Vote for a Moderate Republican. They've been doing that for 40 years and its gotten them nowhere. even if they elect a CT whitman or a Romney, the moderate R does nothing.
Just stop voting. Go Galt. you're just supporting they system if you keep voting. In a blue state. Or nominate a true Right winger. You're going to lose anyway. But of course, the Right won't do that. As Althouse stated they're pathetic. And i'd say Losers. Pathetic Losers.
You can have a welfare state or you can have open borders, but you can't have both.
You can't have either. A welfare state will inevitably seek to expand the population of workers in order to support the welfare class, while open borders will eventually draw in an underclass whose existence will increase pressure on politicians to implement welfare policies, either out of misplaced compassion or a cynical attempt to win votes.
"I certainly hope the vote count at the end of the day shows that McAuliffe has lost, because if it doesn't, people won't believe it, and I don't like that kind of chaos."
Many reasons to want to see McA lose but that's not one on my list. Strange how little confidence you have in the maturity and common sense of most American voters -- the loudest, uber-partisan voices on twitter, etc., are hardly representative.
Skippy (11:57am):
Counting votes all night won't work this time. It was a one-time thing. What happens if Democratic poll-workers in NoVa say "Hey, it's 10 p.m., we're all tired and hungry. Let's all go home and get some sleep and meet again here at 9:00 a.m.", as they did in five states a year ago? This time, the Republican poll-workers are going to say "Fuck you, no! We know what you have in mind. We're not leaving until the counting's done, and we're not leaving you alone with the ballots!"
If the Democrats leave anyway, confident that the Republicans would not do any counting without them, because that would be cheating, the Republicans may leave, too, but we can be quite certain that they will also have someone guarding the front and back doors all night long, working in shifts, who will call the police and the newspapers and film everything if any Democrat even tries to get back in before 9:00 a.m.
Some tricks only work once, because they're easy to guard against if you know they may be tried.

That's my prediction too.
Reports of Virginia Voter Suppression Surface as People Turned Away From Polls Over Not Wearing Masks
voting locations are turning away voters in Virginia over not wearing masks or are trying to convince others that masks must be worn at the very least.
Washington Times writer Charlie Hurt wrang the alarm bell, reporting claims from some voters that they were being troubled by people for not wearing a mask as they lined up to vote. Hurt noted in a tweet that this was indeed illegal voter suppression and reminded voters that they may vote in any polling place in Virginia, even in schools, without a mask.
they had the "trappings" of a maga rally, see?
Holy sh!t!
Ryan Lizza, in Politico, gives us an article with the headline:
POLITICO Playbook: Youngkin’s crowds dwarf McAuliffe’s on election eve.
That's the kind of thing you write when teh D is down by 10. But if the D is down by 10, you just don't cover the race.
Thank you Althouse for finding this. My mind is blown that Politico, of all places, would publish that.
"You can have a welfare state or you can have open borders, but you can't have both."
And yet here we are.
“I certainly hope the vote count at the end of the day shows that McAuliffe has lost, because if it doesn't, people won't believe it, and I don't like that kind of chaos.”
“People won’t believe it”
So what is the metric where the “people won’t believe it” POV is such that Althouse’s brain wants these non-believers to get what they want?
If two people won’t believe something, is that enough? Is it a percentage thing? If thirty five percent won’t believe something, then does Althouse hope that these non-believers get what they want? Forty nine percent?
BTW, what is the population surveyed in this situation. Althouse tells us that there are already enough non-believers such that she wants the non-believers to not be disappointed. Who are the people Althouse is talking about? Only voters in Virginia? People other than these voters? Also what exactly is the current percentage of the total population that Althouse is referencing re being folks that are already guaranteed to be non-believers if they are disappointed even though there are no results? Does Althouse always hope that non-believers in every election get what they want when their non-believer numbers reach the non-believer proportion re this Virginia election?
Or does Althouse not have answers associated w/ her statement, because she was just jabbering to her isolated chunk of the internet that doesn’t think about what they’re reading. Hence the level of writing.
Logic is tricky.
Fairfax County is already claiming that their EARLY VOTE totals will be delayed....the Early Vote totals.....that have already been in for days.....are delayed. No reports on when they will be made available. Because, of course.
Are there any reports of burst water pipes somewhere within 1,000 miles of the central vote counting locations in Fairfax counties?
I still think the Dims will steal the vote in VA. No word from Richmond.
The trunk of the car has not yet been checked.
Youngkin is up 12% at the 8:00 deadline for votes to be counted. And the Democrats in Fairfax county decided they don't care about the deadline.
And they did it with the "early votes."
How stupid is that?
They just made it clear to everyone in the wolrd they are waiting to see how many votes they need with ballots that could have been counted by noon that they have had for days.
They are acting like their goal is to make sure everyone knows they are committing voter fraud. The way the Biden Regime is openly destroying the economy, border security, and our armed forces it really seems like they are trying to force a hot civil war.
“Maybe that's why Althouse lets you stick around, despite your entirely creepy and adolescent and quite weird "Eddie Haskell" act while attempting to "drive a wedge between Althouse and her readers" (your exact words).”
But the question is why does Althouse allows YOU to stick around.
Starting to look as though Youngkin has won outside the ability of Democrats to cheat. The Republicans had to flip six seats while losing none in the House of Delegates to flip that body from Democrat to Republican. It appears that the GOP candidates lead comfortably in all their vulnerable seats and currently lead in 13 jurisdictions where the seat is now held by a Democrat.
As I mentioned way upthread, Loudoun County is blue, and it has stayed blue, but not by nearly enough. With 97% of the precincts in that county reporting, McAuliffe is ahead by 16,000 votes -- he needed to win it by 80,000 to have a chance of winning the state as a whole. If the results hold up, Glenn Youngkin needs to send thank you messages to Scott Zeigler (Superintendent of Loudoun County Public Schools) and Brenda Sheridan, who chairs the Loudoun County School Board.
Democrat women actually care about their children. Who knew?
I'm looking at teh Decision Desk results. They've got a clean GOP sweep at the top, Governor, Lt Governor, and AG.
Now, I thought that's what teh VA voters should do, but I didn't think that's what teh VA voters would do.
This is about a 15% flip in voters from Dem to GOP. Will that be replicated nationwide next year? I seriously doubt it.
But I think from this point on the "progressives" can kiss goodbye any hoep that the "moderates" will give them what they want. Because 1 5% D -> R move from 2020 to 2022 would be a nationwide slaughter for the Dems
It is beyond the margin of obvious voter fraud in Virginia right now.
Only one county is holding out and breaking the law by not having votes counted at 8:00PM.
It will be fun to watch Democrats celebrate their massive victory in the "Early Voting" ballots tomorrow morning after they pretend that more than 10% of the state voted early in Fairfax county.
To whom it may concern:
Once upon a time you dressed so fine
Threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People call say 'beware doll, you're bound to fall'
You thought they were all kidding you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hanging out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging your next meal
How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone
As much as I would love to watch you folks implode over a McAuliffe triumph and mount another half dicked insurrection in Richmond, the country is better off when a Clinton scum bucket loses.
Final thought for the night:
With 80% of the votes in (2,168,808 votes), Republican Jack Ciattarelli is still leading Democrat incumbentent NJ Gov Phil Murphy by 50k votes.
I expect Murphy will sneak by in the end. But if you'd predicted 2 weeks ago that the NJ Gov race would be 50 - 50, you'd have been considered a madman.
The Democrats got hammered tonight. They got hammered on CRT, they got hammered on lockdowns, they got hammered because they're a bunch of racist fuckups and authoritarian assholes.
This didn't just happen in the South, it happened in the North. Youngkin apparently won by moving the needle everywhere in VA. In NJ, Ciattarelli needs a 16 point swing in his favor to win, and currently has it.
But even if he only ends up with a 15 point swing, do that next year and the Democrats will lose every Gov race they picked up in 2018, and every Senate race that's not a solid D lock (meaning GA and AZ, just to start).
If Dems were sane, they'd ditch CRT, dial back the mandates, and start trying to govern from the Center. but they can't, because their base is not sane.
Hell, Terry M lost this race because of CRT and parent involvement in schools. He knew he was losing it for that.
And he still kept going on CRT and "teachers rule, parent drool", because pushing that was more important to him than winning the f'ing race.
The next year is going to be quite interesting
But certainly we know that comparative enthusiasm at campaign rallies is no predictor of voting results.
I mean, don't we?
So, revisiting my earlier comment.
Even with Biden's current unpopularity, the Virginia race was winnable by a competent Democrat. The Dems, instead of a competent pol. had McAuliffe instead.
Youngkin didn't really do much of anything impressive -- he just made sane sounds with his mouth. McAuliffe just made blatantly stupid statement after stupid statement. After pissing people off about whether parents should be the primary people with input into kids' education, he decided to close out campaigning by having the head of the largest teacher's union speak at an event. Great choice, idiot!
I mean, this is not complicated. There is no deep analysis to be made.
People responding to me earlier were arguing, basically, that having captured specific voting groups made the Democrats lazy, and I suppose, but McAuliffe did some incredibly stupid stuff. They really couldn't get anybody better? Even Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, for somewhat different reasons, wouldn't be as bad.
They really couldn't get anybody better?
@meep, actually, no. Normally the Lieutenant Governor or AG moves up to run in the top slot, but Justin Fairfax was credibly accused of rape and he got less than 5% of the vote in the primary. Herring, the AG, decided to go for a third term as AG; a possible mistake on his part. McAuliffe had money, he left office with favorable ratings four years ago, and he had a lot of political favors he could — and did — call in for the primary.
Two things you need to keep in mind. First, the standard Democrat playbook told McAwful to ignore his opponent and run against Trump. Turns out that doesn’t always work. Youngkin figured out how to pick up Trump’s base without explicitly soliciting Trump’s support. It’s quite possible that Trump’s base are Republicans now, and not just Trump supporters. Second, any Democrat has to do the kowtow to the teachers’ unions. And this year, in this state, they’re poison. Will they still be poison next year in other states? Maybe, maybe not. We’ll see.
You’d be better off licking your wounds than this sad mincing and lashing out, Chuck.
Chin up, Sparky!
That's one good thing coming out of this election; one less chance for the whining bitches of the Trump Party to make phony claims that an election was "stolen."
Another good thing is that governance will improve in Virginia.
Another another good thing is that there’s one less chance for the whining bitches that view everything through the prism of their uninformed Trump hatred to think that their viewpoint matters at all.
Pro-marxist pro-CRT Biden voter LLR Chuck: "You should remove this, Althouse. If anybody actually took it seriously, it would be per se defamatory."
You passionately and vehemently defended Weaver and the Lincoln Pedophile Project long after all their child-grooming sex activities and cover up by ALL their leaders became widely known.
Perhaps your passionate and vehement defense of Weaver and the Lincoln Pedophile Project long after all their child-groom sex activities and cover up by ALL their leaders became widely known is why people think you passionately and vehemently support the Lincoln Pedophile Project and all their activities.
Banned Lefty commenter Inga (in defense of Banned lefty Commenter LLR Chuck): "But the question is why does Althouse allows YOU to stick around."
Probably to keep a check on idiot lefties like you and LLR Chuck who call the blog hostess a c*** and declare your intentions are to disrupt her blog and drive a wedge between her and her readers.
But you are a dumb lefty, so you've already forgotten everything that has occurred more than 15 minutes ago so naturally you are aghast at someone daring to raise the historical record with you.
Oh, and before I forget, my condolences on the utter collapse of another of your favorite lunatic conspiracy theories: the "secret communications" between the Trump Tower Server and the Alfa Bank server.
As I recall, you Inga, when you weren't busy accusing western Christians of being guilty for islamic supremacist mass murders, spent quite a bit of time pushing that particularly stupid conspiracy at Althouse blog.
That's gotta be rough for you to deal with. A solid first step to recovery would be for you to admit yoou pushed a blatant lie for years and years (I know, its hard to separate out all the lies you pushed, but remember, this was the Alfa bank lie) and that you are sorry for doing so and you will endeavor to not be so easily fooled again.
Good luck. We're rooting for you!
LLR Chuck: "So, they didn't. Democrats didn't steal the vote."
They didn't steal enough of the vote. I'm guessing the 100k/200k votes stuffed in early were expected to be plenty to pull it out if Youngkin was only going to be ahead by 2 to 4%.
Unfortunately for LLR Chuck's beloved Clinton Team Sleaze Member McAuliffe, Youngkin was much farther ahead than expected. Much farther.
And its tough to pull the "oh look, a water pipe broke 3 blocks away so all the republican poll watchers have to leave!" trick more than once.
pro-marxist pro-CRT Biden voter LLR Chuck: "Has Liz Cheney endorsed Youngkin? She’s not completely disinterested; she was a Virginia resident for much of her life."
Jason: "LULZULZULZ
VA area residents are still her core constituency."
Actually, VA-based political lobbyists and the DC democraticals and the lefty media are Cheney's core constituency.
But not to worry. Liz is now several months into her MSNBC/CNN contributor interview process and she looks to be a shoe-in for the Jen Rubin-"Conservative" chair on The View.
Which explains why Liz never actually goes back to Wyoming because, why would she do that? Nothing but icky freedom loving republicans out there.
You can stop replying to Chuck. I am removing everything here that refers to him and will be stopping him in moderation from now. He will be one of the small handful of people who are the reason why all comments are moderated.

So, revisiting my earlier comment.
Even with Biden's current unpopularity, the Virginia race was winnable by a competent Democrat. The Dems, instead of a competent pol. had McAuliffe instead.
McAuliffe won in 2013. This when the VA pattern was "vote opposite the President's Party" for decades before.
He didn't lose because he isn't competent, he lost because the Democrat playbook is a failure.
The Democrat Party is owned by the teachers unions. McAuliffe did what every other Democrat does, everywhere: he bowed to the teachers unions. Thus teachers decide what happens at schools, not parents. Thus "CRT yes!"
I mean, this is not complicated. There is no deep analysis to be made.
Yep: The Democrat Party agenda sucks. Democrat Party rulership in DC sucks. Stick to the Democrat talking points, get slaughtered.
You just keep whistling past that graveyard for another year, please. Because I really want to see the election results of you doing so.
The cost of "Covid lockdowns" for the Democrats is that parents were forced to see the insanity that the Democrat Party indoctrinators in public schools have been forcing on their kids.
And because even most Democrat voting parents actually do love their kids, they're outraged at the racist trash, and non-racist trash, being shoved on their kids.
Now, the Democrat Party Establishment thinks that that trash pushing is what's made the younger generation vote D, and so isn't willing to give it up.
And that's your problem. The core of your Party is completely wedded to drag queen reading hours, CRT, and boys in skirts in girls bathrooms.
In the past, the parents who want to vote Democrat have been able to turn a blind eye to this, and keep on voting D. That eye has been unblinded. And they're not voting D any more.
It wasn't just Youngkin who won. The GOP pulled a clean sweep of the statewide offices (yay for "white supremacy and the patriarchy! We got a black female Republican elected as VA's Lt Gov! You don't get any more "white supremacy and the patriarchy" than that!), and has flipped the State house of Reps (the Senate wasn't up for election) from 45 - 55 to 52 - 48.
it wasn't Terry's bad campaigning, it was your side's bad ideas.
But, like I said, please keep thinking it's something else. Because I want to win again next year, too
