They revoked Andrew Cuomo's Emmy, and the first question is why did Andrew Cuomo win an Emmy?

Here's an NPR article from last November: "Andrew Cuomo To Receive International Emmy For 'Masterful' COVID-19 Briefings."
The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced Friday that it is breaking with tradition and awarding its International Emmy Founders Award to a real politician who is currently in office....

They went out of their way to create a new concept for an award just to adulate Cuomo.

"The Governor's 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure," the academy's president and CEO, Bruce Paisner, explained in a statement announcing the decision....

When you go to the URL for the statement, you can't read the full text with all its original effusiveness. You just see this, dated yesterday:

The International Academy announced today that in light of the New York Attorney General’s report, and Andrew Cuomo’s subsequent resignation as Governor, it is rescinding his special 2020 International Emmy® Award. His name and any reference to his receiving the award will be eliminated from International Academy materials going forward.

I was going to dig the original statement out of the usually reliable Wayback Machine but look — it only records what happened there yesterday:

The Wayback Machine becomes the Memory Hole! So does Google's "cache." Hey, keepers of the web, don't help these award-givers hide their embarrassment. Preserve history for us!

I wanted to get to the original statement to see the full text of the sentence that called Andrew Cuomo "masterful." Why would a man think he could do the things Cuomo is accused of doing? He's responsible for whatever he did, even if other people encouraged and enabled him, but I want to express disdain for the ostensible adults who gave a politician an award for being "masterful."

Think about it what it means to praise a politician for being "masterful" in his use of media to massage minds and to control behavior. Let me help you by quoting from the OED's definitions for "masterful"

Having a master's character or disposition; accustomed to or insisting upon having one's own way; imperious, wilful, overbearing. Of an action: high-handed, despotic... Having the qualities of a master; powerful and able to control others; commanding, vigorous in rule....

If a politician is the master, we the people are the slaves.

ADDED: The ceremony presentation is still available — because it's in Cuomo's own YouTube account. Enjoy the tongue bath:

Exactly why normal Americans are laughing at the elites. This was as big a joke as Saint Obama "winning" the Noble Peace Prize just for being elected while black.

In this case "being masterful" means "not being Donald Trump", which is the actual reason they gave him the award. In other words, they made up a reason so they could compare and contrast a politician they liked with one they didn't. It's virtue signaling with an "important" award.

I suppose it is no surprise that an award, given solely for political reasons, may be rescinded solely for political reasons, especially when the giving organizations is frivolous and serves as an arm of Minitrue.

Still, if I were a successful television performer or producer, I would look at the Emmy on my mantle and realize that I only have it because I toe the correct political line. Clearly, talent had little to do with it.

I knew the WayBack Machine was compromised when they claimed that they had abandoned work on a search feature because it was not feasible and the reason they gave was utterly lame. The real problem with a search feature on the WayBack Machine is that it would compromise Big Tech's control over the narrative.

Rest assured a search feature exists for the right people.

Manipulation in the quest for ever more power and control is an obsession with the political left, their raison d'etre. What's surprising is they did not think to co-op awards shows earlier...

Yesterday there was one of those classic manipulate protest/press conferences in South Miami where a large batch of 'doctors' 'walked out' in protest of Florida's unwillingness to comply with leftie-logic covid control. MSDNC reported the walkout as fact, interviewing these actors pretending to be doctors- Isn't it illegal to impersonate a doctor? They were as legit as those 'doctors' standing behind Obama when he was wheeling out Obamacare...

We are being carpet bombed by these invented experts with fake credentials we're expected to accept as higher authorities as they supersede the rule of law for their agendas.

If we let it happen it empowers them to it more often and with greater intensity...

This goes to show you--the flaky left is so emo, so unstable; they really want their own Big Daddy like Trump and they project their perverse desires on Trump's followers.

Remember when some of them speculated that Trump slept with Ivanka? That's how weird they are. They wanted Cuomo to be their daddy and they'd give him anything to urge him on.

And we're the nutcases?

What is it with progressives and their overwhelming desire to rewrite history, even as events are fresh in our minds. I’m amazed how fast technology is evolving to oppress Americans instead of providing freedom and information, the two prophecies of tech that are really curses threatening to invalidate the Bill of Rights. These are perilous times. And we have no executive heading our government. We just have a guy who will read whatever his slavemasters tell him to say.

If a politician is the master, we the people are the slaves.

That is what this is all about.

Trump put the people above the politicians. The politicians and their corporate owners couldn't abide this.

There are a fair number of people who want to be slaves as well as long as they get to be above the Trump supporters. For them relative position over others is more important than overall position.

They cannot have a system where the power actually derives from the governed.

That is why they turned to voter fraud.

By show biz standards, Cuomo's transgressions weren't so awful. The Emmy people are setting a bad precedent here. Should the Oscar people rescind the awards for Woody Allen and Kevin Spacey?.....The fact that Cuomo was such an ogre and yet was able to project the image of a folksy, family man makes his performance that much much impressive. Show biz is all about creating an illusion, and Cuomo was truly adept at it. Woody Allen never played an action hero, and Kevin Spacey never played a gentle, sensitive romantic lead. Cuomo showed far more range and credibility in the role he chose to play. The Emmy people should vote an oak leaf cluster for his award.

To be fair, I'm sure they meant it in the sense of "having mastered the medium." My objection to the whole thing is that either he did or he did not master the medium. The fact that he is a bad person does not change that. So, as usual, societal elitists use their supposed professional awards to virtue signal.

It appears to me that only people with no actual principles and no confidence in their professional capabilities, or should I say "credentials," do this.

Yep, he "masterfully" hid the fact that his policies led to over 10,000 completely avoidable deaths of vulnerable people. No sure why they wanted to celebrate that.

But I guess when you're a morally wretched, politically obsessed monster whose sole focus is "beat Trump", then killing 10,000+ people is just a statistic.

"Why would a man think he could do the things Cuomo is accused of doing?"

Of course the answer is he thinks he cold do those things because when men like him do those things they are never punished criminally or politically. The fun is compiled when not only to they do those things and get away with it, but in the aftermath their are politically motivated there to defend them in public.

The smarter, more compelling question is why do so many women defend guys like Cuomo?

Big Mike म्हणाले...

Why would a man think he could do the things Cuomo is accused of doing?

Probably because he expected (not without reason) to get a pass from affluent, white, liberal women due to Intersectionality and solidarity and that sort of thing. The Nina Burleigh effect, if you will.

Perhaps the fact that he didn’t get away with it means that affluent, white, liberal women are starting to grow up, and intend to demand good governance from the Democrats they elect, though I’m very suspicious that we’re merely looking at a form of kabuki play wherein the Democrat machine removes a potential 2024 challenger for Kamala Harris.

BTW, I believe Tara Reid. So there’s another Democrat politician who successfully got away with harassment.

Literacy ain't what she used to be. The word the NPR copywriter needed is "masterly," meaning much the same as "masterful" but without the connotation of bully-boy high-handedness.

(Masterly looks like an adverb but is an adjective, on the order of "lovely," "gingerly," "likely," and others. Best practice is to use it to modify the deed, not the doer; not: "Cuomo was masterly...," but rather: "Cuomo's dash for cover was masterly....")

My own usage guides are in storage, but I think you can read about it in Fowler if not also Follett; and maybe in Adrian Room's Dictionary of Distinguishables.
