Find the fox.

Sitting at my window this morning, I've seen a big beautiful fox run through the backyard twice, but it's impossible to get the iPhone ready and working quickly enough to get a picture of these full views. So you see what I got. There is a fox in both pictures, I assure you.

If it's you taking the photos, AA, then the fox is behind the lens.

Meade not so much : )

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

Meade is sly like a fox.

I found the fox in both very quickly- like less than 1 second. He wasn't well hidden.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

That's not even hard. You want upside-down in a tree or something for a proper puzzle.

John Ray म्हणाले...

You nailed it Joe. Enough said.

gspencer म्हणाले...

Hint: It'll help if you know that fox's name is Waldo.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

I haven't seen any foxes here in Oak Ridge. I used to see them in my enormous back yard when I lived in CT all the time- I would see them hunting there very often every year- rabbits mostly- but the yard abutted a signifantly large forested area.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

Yeah, this is like playing "There's Waldo".

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

This is a great reason to buy a game camera. We just got one from Cabela’s to capture which animals frequent our property. Quite eye opening and great quality photos and videos in IR and regular format.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

You kind of know where to look — the middle. I'm not taking a random photo. I am aiming.

He was eating. Bird seed apparently.

Nonapod म्हणाले...

I found him in both shots.

For people who love foxes should check out Save a Fox Rescue's Youtube channel. Finnegan will put a smile on your face.

I guess the border situation is now officially a crisis- they are now blaming Trump officially:

frequent our property mostly while we sleep I meant but you get super high quality daytime pics of course

gilbar म्हणाले...

glad to see (in the second shot), that there was a fox on the run

Owen म्हणाले...

Top pic, he is behind the right-hand end of the picket fence. Lower pic, he is nearly to the neighbor's porch/basement wall.

Howard म्हणाले...

The Fox is behind the camera.

I'm Full of Soup म्हणाले...

And he's facing the camera in both pics!

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

A fox lives in our yard, but it only comes out at dusk.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

I was doing some calculations last night for fun. Here is one of them- by my estimate, the US government by one method or another has funded almost $5 trillion dollars in pandemic relief spending in 4 distinct tranches since last March. If you sent a check to every single resident of the US, that $5 trillion would have been $15,000/person- not taxpayer or citizen- per person! How much did you get for your household? Do you see my point, or do I need to be explicit?

Curious George म्हणाले...

We have a bunch of foxes here in my Milwaukee proper neighborhood. And their pups. The only bad thing is at night they make this awful screaming noise. Last summer I had one just below my open bedroom window at 1AM. I thought someone had been attacked or something.

Also saw one go after a squirrel in my neighbors back yard. Squirrel made it to the tree and safety.

"Sweet" was an underrated band. Several memorable songs.

tim maguire म्हणाले...

Spotted it right away in the 2nd shot. Still haven't found it in the 1st.

tim maguire म्हणाले...

Oh, ok. Had to blow it up, but once done and I knew where to look ("eating birdseed"), it was easy.

Wince म्हणाले...

I feel like a kid in the waiting room of a dentist office.

COME ON, SUMMER!

Pic #2, in plain sight - easy.

have you heard their version of Peppermint Twist?
it truly Rocks!

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

I believe it is The Sweet and they did have some good ones. Fox on the Run reminds me of junior high. Lots of bands have covered Ballroom Blitz. Love is like Oxygen, Little Willie. Good old rock.

Temujin म्हणाले...

The fox was easy to spot. However, if you do a close up on the house across your yard in the photo, you'll see a person staring back at you with binoculars.

Derve Swanson म्हणाले...

R U ready for the fox to snag a bird feeding on the ground at the fox feeder?
That's next, you know...

Wild Kingdom in your own backyard.
Um, enjoy?

he/she/it is behind the palings of the fence. Look closely you can see the tail.

Foxy's on the town, oh!

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

They had passed the scene by the time I became interested in music, but songs like "Ballroom Blitz", "Love is Like Oxygen", and "Fox on the Run" were still radio favorites of mine when I was a teenager. Just great songs, and all significantly different from one another, which is rather unusual for a rock band.

Rory म्हणाले...

"How much did you get for your household?"

You gotta add in like 50 bucks each for the vaccine.

That's the FBI checking out lapses of cruel neutrality.

I'm jealous. We don't get beautiful foxes, but sad looking coyotes.

The Sweetshop 1968
At the time, another UK band released a single under the same name Sweetshop, so the band abbreviated their moniker to Sweet.

i always thought of them as The Sweet though

ALP म्हणाले...

My father is an experienced nature photographer. You have to have camera ready on tripod at all times to get good 'wildlife streaking across the yard' images.

Lyle म्हणाले...

I see foxy.

Your yard, with the snow cover, trees, and placement of chairs, somehow gives me the impression of a cemetery. This isn't a criticism, but just the first thing I thought before even seeing you were trying to photo the beautiful fox.

Narr म्हणाले...

I am a big fan of foxes, especially the little grey one in our neighborhood with an appetite for squirrels.

Howard म्हणाले...

And the little ones chewed on the bones-ohs bones-ohs and they never had such a supper in their life and the little ones chewed on the bones-ohs.

Leslie Graves म्हणाले...

I found it in the bottom picture but not yet the top.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Never saw a fox in the wild until one ran in front of my car in Maine and it got squashed. Not a nice way to see a fox in the wild for the first time.

farmgirl म्हणाले...

The top pic is the 2nd pic taken... a sly way to present

farmgirl म्हणाले...

Ooops I’m wrong- and confused. Spotted it no problem, but got a little too big for my britches.
French(Canadian) descent and left- handed = a challenge of existence... winkywinkwink

Tomcc म्हणाले...

I saw it fairly quickly in the lower photo, a bit longer in the upper photo (obscured by the fence).
Yancy Ward- you have made me lose my appetite for lunch. $5T...

Tomcc म्हणाले...

BTW Prof. Althouse, any henhouses in your neighborhood?

Oops. Nevermind, wrong thread..

lonejustice म्हणाले...

Cute little fox. I spotted him right away. We have them in rural Iowa also, but not usually in the city. Very Cool.

stevew म्हणाले...

Behind the camera, right?

Jaq म्हणाले...

I hate how long it takes digital cameras to be ready. The other day a pair of cardinals had landed on the large orchid plant I have on the little table on the patio, and the red of the male and the brown of the female complemented the green of the orchid leaves so perfectly, and they each perched on a different flower stem and each stem had a bunch of large white orchids. Who could have dreamed up such a picture, but there was no way to get it before they were gone.

After the Fox featuring the golden voice of Peter Sellers.

mandrewa म्हणाले...

I saw a fox this morning. The fox was just walking along, towards me as it happens, but it was distracted by something else and did not, I think, see me. It was about seven car lengths away. I froze but it seemed to know something was off because it stopped and carefully looked in various directions before finally -- I think it took about 30 seconds -- it spotted me.

But it didn't seem alarmed. And from that I deduce that this fox, which I have never seen before, is used to seeing me.

Sydney म्हणाले...

Surprised a fox the other day at our back porch stairs. First time I have seen one around here.

Clyde म्हणाले...

I went to a local nature park last week and spotted some zebra longwing butterflies (the state butterfly of Florida). They are difficult to photograph because they are in almost constant motion and seldom light on anything for any length of time. I did finally get some good pictures when one lighted on a flower. I also spotted the King of the Dragonflies, a big green one that was about four inches long! It was a good day.

mikee म्हणाले...

So is that an urban fox or a suburban fox? One can be differentiated from the other by how annoyed it gets at the neighbors' yard care.

Foxes eating garbage, or hunting rats around houses? In either case, no worries really, unless rabies makes an appearance.

Gracelea म्हणाले...

We had quite a few foxes in my urban neighborhood until last year, when the coyotes moved in. Apparently they don't co-exist.
Still a joy to see them drinking from our pool, with the Milwaukee skyline in the background.

todd galle म्हणाले...

That's simple, the fox is right there. Any hunter would spot him right off the bat. Movement is suggestive and draws attention. I wouldn't take a shot under .243 at that distance, but that's me.

Are foxes still worth money as bounty in Wisconsin?
