You can access Parler directly, rhhardin, it just won't be offered in an app on Apple phones. At least, right now it is available directly with any browser, but for how long is anyone's guess.

There is a regular browser way to access it and unfortunately that's going to be the only way now. Google banned it from the Play store seemingly effective 7:46est tonight and it looks like Apple is going to follow suit.

I had intended to drive down to DC before sunup Wednesday morning after driving my father and sister to Kennedy airport for their trip to DR. When something strange happened. Instead of setting my GPS after dropping off my father and sister, I drove off the airport and instead of getting on the belt parkway towards the Verrazano which would eventually take me to Interstate 95 south, I took the Van Wyck 678 north thinking of crossing the GWB.

Now, what in havens name got me thinking I had to cross the GWB to go to DC remains a mystery to me. By the time I realized my blunder I was ways away from the route i should have taken and so I took it as a sign that maybe it was a bad idea to drive down there, with no place to park and no plans nor place to stay.

So I drove home instead and went to bed, slept until noon.

I had the idea of sharing this story at one of my AA meetings, from the perspective of giving my higher power credit for diverting me away from a possibly dangerous encounter, doing for me what i couldn't do for myself. I didn't think it was going to get violent. But here we are.

I didn't share it however. AA frowns on talk of politics, even tangentially. And I would have outed myself as a Trump supporter. That's a no no. Specially at the place where this meeting was taking place... Montclair New Jersey. Are you kidding me?

I should start photographing some of their street signs. Like Althouse does Madison.

Lem Vibe Bandit said...

I downloaded the Parler app to my phone just in time.

Yancey Ward said...

The death watch of this blog has now started given Althouse's post a couple below this analyzing Trump's actual speech rather than CNN's description of it. That is a big no-no these days.

Yancey Ward said...

You can oppress people's speech when the populace is disarmed, but to do so in a country with a billion guns and trillions of ammo rounds is foolish in the extreme.

I guess I am now a domestic terrorist for pointing out this fundamental fact.

Word is Trump is on Parler. Apparently I can't use Parler until they verify me. I had to photograph my passport. If it's a scam I'm doomed.

An uncustomarily definite statement. She usually chooses to set up several contrasting vectors to follow and discuss. Perhaps that phase of our education has already passed.

Would this night qualify as Twitter's night of the long knives?

"The Night of the Long Knives, or the Röhm Purge, was a purge that took place in Nazi Germany from June 30 to July 2, 1934. Hitler, urged on by Göring and Himmler, ordered a series of political extrajudicial executions."

If we are going to ratch'd up the rhetoric about the DC protest on Wednesday, two can play that game.

Edward Snowden links Damnatio memoriae Wikipedia page. link

"Damnatio memoriae is a modern Latin phrase meaning "condemnation of memory", indicating that a person is to be excluded from official accounts. There are and have been many routes to damnatio memoriae, including the destruction of depictions, the removal of names from inscriptions and documents, and even large-scale rewritings of history. The term can be applied to other instances of official scrubbing; the practice is seen as long ago as the aftermath of the reign of the Egyptian Pharaohs Akhenaten in the 13th century BC, and Hatshepsut in the 14th century BC."

The enemy of my enemy is now my friend. That's some rabbit hole i'm crawling into my friends. Almost makes me wish i was still drinking.

As a Giants fan who moved from SF to LA in 1969, I hated Lasorda. But I certainly respected him as an opponent; especially his passion for the game. And it's hard to beat the Walter Alston (23 years) to Tommy Lasorda (21 years) combination for management continuity and excellence. If you can, find a video of his press conference after the Dodgers lost to the Cardinals when they pitched to Jack Clark instead of walking him, and he hit a three-run homer. It is hilariously vulgar.

That was made obvious iver 4 years ago when Chuck came out for essentially the entirety of the AOC agenda. A rack exemplified by Chuck's over the top praise of Max Boot right after Max Boot first went Full Prostrate in writing to his his newest policy muse AOC.

If one pays attention, Chuck's most passionate praise for any abd all democratical ir FakeCon ALWAYS comes immediately on the heel of that democratical or FakeCon fully embracing a far left position.

naricso, i am translating this from Castilian, so allow me some generosity, but the only real backstory to the Gatsby novel, in the literary world, is visible to poetry lovers in the best of Keats (Tender was the Night!) and Rossetti (Remember me when the winter snows come) ...

In the real world, Fitzgerald, after a deprived middle class childhood, liked having pretty women with expensive clothes around. That is the first thing you need to know about our young native genius. Sure he read a little romantic poetry here and there, but he was sort of unnerved by the fact that most beautiful women were not interested in a "novelist" who drank too much. SAD, he needed friends with testosterone, with friendship in their heart ..... he had no such friends, and got overexcited by a little bit of friendship with rich women with expensive clothes. SAD!!!! (yes, I read the little novel, and once again I say SAD!!!!)

That was all the novel was about, wasn't it : what is it like to live in a world where one's most fervent desire, a desire which you cannot ignore at the cost of not remembering what you think you remember, is to live a story, any story, with one or two rich beautiful women in it?

Sad! Almost all women are beautiful, the mediocracy of Fitzgerald was in not knowing that, in fashioning a novel based on the concept that only a few women are capable of engaging the love of a man. Poor little fellow! If only me and him had been friends, I would have taken him on long walks on cold winter days, shown him how to climb mountains, explained to him how the world works,,,,,, and he would have understood that he should have been a little less dazed by the beauty of rich young women in their 20s and 30s, which is a much better catchphrase than the Wagnerian chords that reverberate through his sadly outmoded little novel, written by the poor little M katz about pedestalized estrogen-enriched F katzes who were ----- and we all know this now - simply out of the league of our poor little poet, our poor little grad of poor mediocre early midcentury Princeton. What did he say, something about some boats someone else owned, miles away, which he looked at?
If I am wrong, explain to me exactly how.

As for why you're wrong: if an outdoorsy friend to show him the real world was what he needed...have you ever heard of a fella named Ernest Hemingway?

But you could be better than Hemingway, sure. After all, you're not a commie rat who suck-started his own shotgun (for some reason, doubtless for less reason than you would have with all your pain).

Still, Fitzy was not alone.

Hemingway was a great guy in many ways, Orson Welles explained his last days were days when he was not himself, suffering from devastating disease that unnerved him....

Hemingway did not invite Fitzgerald to go on long hikes in the cold of winter, they just palled around in cities, spending francs on luxuries, doing metropolitan stuff, sad, they should have been good friends who treated this world as a cool place to be tough in, if you are able, not as a tourist destination

I agree!!

This bullshit about the app improving your experience is foolish shit for consumption by women. The app will NOT improve your download experience because that is controlled by you wireless/cell phone provider.......but it does improve the apps capability to upload shit from your mobile device.....with your location......and all your photos for facial recognition.

Trust me, Facebook can even recognize dogs in a picture

This is why they moved all the pregnant girls out of high school, and into the orphanage. The new app gave them lots of attention.

1. To clarify: Limbaugh's Twitter account was not suspended or banned, he deactivated it himself. Twitter also put out a message to that effect.

2. So now Banned Chuck, who expressed confusion that his occasional post is deleted by moderation, has taken to spamming this blog with multiple copies of the same message. Isn't that what another banned commenter was reduced to doing in their last days here?

3. Sorry if my "taken out" post upset anyone, but the media is complicit in this and I won't be subservient Jew in Germany thinking (and saying) "let's be nice to our new masters and surely they will treat us well."

4. It appears that I misinterpreted the Hostess's post on DJT's incitement -- after reading her later comment on that same post. I apologize for asking if she was "high" and for calling her an ass. It seemed to me, at the time and while I was quickly scanning the post, that she was agreeing with the NYTimes. I regret the error.

Fitzgerald is one of my favorite American authors, Twain and Melville being the others of that time period. "Tender is the Night" is a DEPRESSING book that reminded me, when I read it, of a relationship I had with a beautiful, society-raised young woman that was a raging alcoholic. I ended our love affair when she refused to go to AA -- I said I could love an alcoholic but not a drunk. That was in the mid 80s. Since then she has accumulated four more DUIs (with subsequent revocation of driving privileges), many arrests for violence, a divorce, losing custody of her children (who now hate her), a lot of extra poundage and a life without assets, friends or family. When I read TITN, it was shortly after we broke up and it depressed me greatly.

Her last DUI was for driving a golf cart on public streets to pick up take out food. She was intoxicated and spend 9 months in county for felony DUI.

All this is going to do is divide us more, and she doesn't care. You reap what you sow. Just remember that....

How is it that Trump's twitter account is a public forum so he is not allowed to block users, and then the company can block his account? I am living in a frightening world of cognitive dissonance.

I too prefer applications which can be run on one's phone on the browser rather than via dedicated apps (programs) of unknown capability.

Apparently not realized by many people, there's really little need (and small advantage) to running the Facebook app on your phone — when running it (Facebook.com) on your browser (e.g. Safari on e.g. an iPhone) works perfectly well. (You can't Facebook Message — but then, I believe you now have to do that from within a separate Facebook app too.)

Indeed, evoking Facebook from within a browser offers the ability to keep several Facebook pages (browser tabs) open at once – which (as I understand it) the Facebook app does not.

Just watched the video at the New York Post of the violent insurrectionists breaking in to the capital building—the police opened the doors and the people walked in in an orderly fashion. All smiles and waving.

It’s starting to look like, when all is said and done, there was some bad behaviour, but very little violence. Confederate flag guy is Canadian, Pelosi podium stealer is not republican and has never voted in a Federal election.

This is mostly a media fantasy seized on by the Democrats to consolidate power.

Isn't it amusing that Trump's political enemies have roamed free the last four years. I would not have been as restrained as our president has been. Bezos would have been living in Federal court defending anti-trust violations. NY Times reporters would be defending themselves for leaking national security secrets. Eric "Bangin' Fang" Swalwell and Adam Schiff would be doing likewise.

As the Commie-Pinko dems have demonstrated, the charges do not need an element of truth. Just bleed them with process.

Not everyone who left Twitter recently was involuntarily purged. I've had a Twitter account almost from the day it opened for business. I seldom tweet anything. I occasionally make a comment. I haven't worked at buiding a following so a retweet from me is irrelevant. But I, and a lot of people like me, decided not to be counted as a member of the Twitter community any longer. If anything of any value gets tweeted, someone will link it somewhere where I can see it, but it's mostly an online shithole so there's not much worth seeing.

@Marcus, sad when the bottle means more to someone than life itself. This incident reminds me of a story about country singer George Jones when his wife hid his car keys to stop his drunk driving. He made the story into a hit song including the line “She might have taken my car keys, but she forgot about my old John Deere.”

"Our contemporary “experiment in democracy” is merely a blip on the scale of political history. As noble as this experiment might be, it contains its own fatal flaw – a flaw that we are just beginning to see materialize. Democracy is based on the Greek ideal of individual rights. Our constitution endorses this view of inalienable rights. This ideal is both its triumph and its downfall, for as men come to believe that they are entitled to rights simply because they are alive, they come to believe that whatever they wish for themselves should be the law of the land. In other words, men begin to think that their personal desires are their rights. When the majority of the people finally adopt this view, society collapses into personal power plays. We are experiencing just the tip of the iceberg of this deadly consequence."
