Wayne County is Detroit! Wayne County is not obscure. Or — I see the ambiguity — is The Washington Post calling the county board level of government obscure — obscure everywhere, everywhere there are counties? There are no counties in Washington, D.C., so the narrow viewpoint from Washington may be that counties don't matter.
No counties in Washington?! Is this news to you? But there once were counties in the District of Columbia. Here's a map from 1835:
That's from Wikipedia, which says: "The County of Washington was one of five original political entities within the District of Columbia, the capital of the United States. Formed by the Organic Act of 1801 from parts of Montgomery and Prince George's County, Maryland, Washington County referred to all of the District of Columbia 'on the east side of the Potomac, together with the islands therein.' The bed of the Potomac River was considered to be part of Washington County as well. Originally Alexandria County, D.C. formed the portion of the District west of the Potomac, ceded by the commonwealth of Virginia. Alexandria County, including the City of Alexandria, was returned to Virginia by Congress in 1846, leaving just Washington County. Within Washington County there were two incorporated areas, the City of Washington and the City of Georgetown. At times the rural parts outside of the cities were referred to as 'Washington County' but all three were part of the county. Upon the passage of the District of Columbia Organic Act of 1871, the three governments were unified under a single District government and made coterminous, ending Washington County's separate identity.... This law brought the entire District of Columbia under the control of a territorial government headed by an appointed governor, an appointed eleven-member council, and a locally elected 22-member assembly. Two of the eleven council seats were reserved for representatives from the District outside of the cities of Washington and Georgetown. Three years later, Congress abolished the territorial government in favor of direct rule over the District by an appointed three-member commission."
After three hours of tense deadlock on Tuesday, the two Republicans on an election board in Michigan’s most populous county reversed course and voted to certify the results of the presidential election, a key step toward finalizing President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the state. Now, they both want to take back their votes. In affidavits signed on Wednesday evening, the two GOP members of the four-member Wayne County Board of Canvassers allege that they were improperly pressured into certifying the election and accused Democrats of reneging on a promise to audit votes in Detroit.“I rescind my prior vote,” Monica Palmer, the board’s chairwoman, wrote in an affidavit reviewed by The Washington Post. “I fully believe the Wayne County vote should not be certified.... “I felt misled,” Palmer told The Post earlier on Wednesday, before signing the affidavit. “I stand firm in not certifying Wayne County without the audit.”...
Hours before signing the affidavit, Palmer told The Post that her experience on Tuesday night had left her shaken. After first voting against certifying the results, a parade of activists and elections workers spoke to the board, with many accusing Palmer and Hartmann of racism for calling into question the results from majority-Black Detroit precincts.
Racism!

Georgia Recount Witnesses Saw Trump Votes Counted for Biden
Affiants also swore to have seen suspiciously pristine, uncreased mail ballots, uniformly and perfectly filled out
Witnesses of the recount of the presidential election in Georgia have signed sworn statements testifying to have observed ballots cast for President Donald Trump counted as though they were cast for former Vice President Joe Biden.
Trump campaign attorney Lin Wood filed the affidavits with a federal court in Georgia on Nov. 17 as part of an emergency motion seeking to block the certification of the election results in the Peach State.
Nine of the affiants swore to have seen suspiciously pristine, uncreased mail ballots, uniformly and perfectly filled out, almost always for Biden. In one case, a batch of such ballots included 500 ballots in a row all cast for Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee.
The lack of creases is strange considering that mail ballots have to be folded to fit in an envelope. Some of the witnesses said the perfect markings, all in black and never outside the voting bubble, appeared as though they were printed by a machine or stamped.
The emergency motion detailed these and other abnormalities, violations, and potential signs of voter fraud on the night prior to the deadline for Georgia’s recount, which has already discovered batches of uncounted votes all advantaging Trump in three counties.
“Everything was in total disarray,” Susan Voyles, a poll manager with 20 years of experience handling ballots, wrote in her affidavit about her experience at a recount center in Fulton County.
Pristine Ballots
Voyles said that ballots usually show signs of handling, like written marks, creases, and torn edges. But a batch she counted while working as a recount auditor at the Georgia World Congress Center on Nov. 14 “stood out.”
“It was pristine. There was a difference in the texture of the paper—it was if they were intended for absentee use, but had not been used for that purpose,” Voyles testified. “There were no markings on the ballots to show where they had come from, or where they had been processed.”
“I observed that the markings for the candidates on these ballots were unusually uniform, perhaps even with a ballot marking device,” Voyles added. “By my estimate in observing these ballots, approximately 98 percent constituted votes for Joe Biden.
Carlos Silva, a registered Democrat, observed a batch of ballots similar to the one described by Voyles, this time in DeKalb County.
“I noticed they all had a perfect black bubble and all were Biden select,” Silva wrote in a sworn affidavit. “I heard them go through the stack and call out Biden’s name over 500 times in a row.”
Robin Hall witnessed the same odd ballots in Fulton County..."

Democracy Dies in Darkness!
It's being killed out in the open.
It's only "obscure" because the underlying issue has a pro-Republican slant - calling it "obscure" puts it in a (false) context of "This isn't a big deal. Just keep walking. Nothing to see!"
Oh no, they got called racists! Who could imagine Dems would do such a thing?
If they’re shaken by the pressure brought to bear on people who hold key votes, they should read Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail and then get into another line of work.
To be fair, I think the writer meant that the board (not the county) is obscure.
"To be fair, I think the writer meant that the board (not the county) is obscure."
I referred to that in the post, so I object to being prodded to be fair. I already was fair!

BREAKING: Wayne County MI election board Republicans rescind votes to certify, file affidavits that their families were threatened
Alexandria is now a city without a county, Arlington a county without a city.
Odd that Robert E Lee stuck with Virginia, since he grew up in what was then D.C.
Althouse @ 5:13
Well. Less unfair anyway. Since it is impossible to be "fair" when dealing with people. Or did you mean "fair" in the nautical, ship building sense?
Just like the western (west of the Potomac) portion of DC was given back to Virginia, the eastern portion should be give back to Maryland.
Discuss.
Electoral Votes:
Pennsylvania 20
Michigan 16
Georgia 16
Total: 52
Trump now: 232
If he wins these three states by a fair recount, he would have 284 electoral votes.
Enough to win the election.

Yes, I see that now.
Turnout and fraud. That's all.
The county board members should take legal action wrt the threats they endured. They are trying to do the right thing here and shouldn’t be outliers in wanting to be sure the results are accurate. That’s their job!
"BREAKING: Wayne County MI election board Republicans rescind votes to certify, file affidavits that their families were threatened"
What else is new? Trump lawyers in PA were threatened.
What is about Commie-Pinko libs and violence? It's like a matched set.
"Within the original city’s boundaries (the area south of Florida Avenue), only about 2 percent of the total area fits the definition of a swamp. It was almost entirely laid out over well-drained terraces and hills. In fact, for a riverside site, it was amazingly free of swampiness.
It’s ironic that complaints about George Washington’s lacking common sense are often voiced by people standing on firm ground over a hundred feet above the city’s flanking rivers. My map shows that there were about 100 swampy acres in six separate areas in 1791.

They had to haul it in.
I am just shocked their are any republicans on the Wayne county board.
I appreciate decent people do not like being called racist.
But don’t decent people now understand the game the left plays?
It was reported the Dems have petitioned to change all newly manufactured QWERTY keyboards to spell RACIST on the top row. That way the accusation can be executed with lightning speed.
The thing I find funny is Democrats, who declared nobody should call the election early nor consider it over immediately, have decided the election is over. With that decision, they have unleashed new policy directives that were suppressed as talking points prior to election day. Buyers remorse is setting in, and their is still a solution for changing their minds.
But Althouse; I have a degree in political science, a law degree, an intense personal interest in Michigan politics and a history of volunteering for the Michigan Republican Party. And before this week, I had never heard of the two Republicans on the Wayne County Board of Canvassers.
Indeed, when I first heard this story, I even guessed wrong about them. I presumed that the two of them were probably Livonia Republicans, and friends of the state party Chairperson, Laura Cox. Wrong; they are Grosse Pointe Tea Party activists.
Yeah, to call the Wayne County Board of Canvassers “obscure” is not wrong, and what conclusively makes them obscure is the legal fact that their deadocking vote will simply be resolved by the State Board of Canvassers.
No serious person is buying the “personal threats” meme here. The Governor was the subject of an actual death plot and she is still on the job, unflinching. The Secretary of State in Georgia has received death threats in addition to whatever threats and pressure that Senate Lindsey Graham has applied to him. He too is not flinching.
The wisest tweet I saw yesterday was the one which pointed out that the Trump Team is not really pursuing a legal strategy to win the election because that cannot happen. They are pursuing a propaganda strategy which can be expected to have some success, particularly with the Trump base.
Certainly, it helps that the threats, intimidation and coercion by Democrats were captured on video.
Thanks, Wuhan!
No serious person is buying the “personal threats” meme here.
Because nobody ever threatens Republicans, and if they do get threatened they deserve it, because they'll all of bunch of deplorable crybabies, right, Chuck?
I have a degree in political science, a law degree, an intense personal interest in Michigan politics and a history of volunteering for the Michigan Republican Party.
And you're still a damn fool.
I was ambivalent at best about a second Trump term. Now, I'm rooting hard for it, just to piss off people like you.
It works every time!
When you want to provide cover for Detroit you say Wayne County. Yes, I get we're talking about the Wayne County Board of Canvassers, but the underlying issue is the fact Detroit cannot conduct an election, and haven't been able to for as long as I can remember.
A study from 2008 revealed some 60% of Detroit adults are functionally illiterate. That is your pool of election workers.
I get furious every time I think about what the democrats have done to the blacks in Detroit. After 3 generations most think the way they are forced to live isn't just normal, but often times better than other cities.
Another interesting thing about that map is that it calls Anacostia River the Eastern Branch (of the Potomac, I suppose). You see that on a lot of old maps, but I haven't been able to figure out when it came to be called the Anacostia.
Seems after being harassed and having their kids doxed by Democrat board members, the GOP members who first caved, refused to sign the certification documents, and have now officially rescinded their yes vote.
But the “emergency” meeting of the Wisconsin Election Commission last night after Trump paid $3 Mil to recount only Dane and Milwaukee Counties where the fraud is coordinated and well known. Bob Spindell became and overnight twitter sensation resisting and mocking all desperate Democrat attempts to change recount rules at the last minute. They guy went from 100 twitter followers and no tweets since 2019, to 45K overnight. Two of the three Dems on the Commission are personal injury attorneys. This won’t his the Wash Post or the NYTs for a day or two while they figure out the propagandist spin, so we will have to wait to address it here at the Althouse two-source blog.
Here is an explanation of the Trump Wisconsin recount targets in Dane and Milwaukee Counties from Scott Walker (twitter thread). After seeing the specifics the Dane county fraud machine tried to run quick interference through the Wisconsin Election Commission.
Scott Walker 11/18/20 Twitter:
The President’s campaign transferred $3 million to the State of Wisconsin today to begin the process of a recount of the ballots cast in Dane and Milwaukee counties. The campaign will contest ballots were not legally cast for three reasons:
1) Incomplete absentee ballots may not be counted under Wisconsin law. In violation of state law, the Wisconsin Elections Commission directed clerks to illegally alter incomplete absentee ballots. Wisconsin state statute reads, “ If a certificate is missing the address of a witness, the ballot may not be counted.” (Wis. Stat. § 6.87(6d)). Only legally cast ballots should be counted in the final results.
2) A written application is required for an absentee ballot. Ballots issued without a written application are in violation of the law. Despite the law, many clerks issued absentee ballots without written applications - particularly during the two week in-person absentee voting period from October 20 to November 1, 2020. Here is the law: “the municipal clerk shall not issue an absentee ballot unless the clerk receives a written application therefor from a qualified elector” 6.86(1)(ar). Only legally cast ballots should be counted in the final results.
3) Voter identification must be presented to vote using an absentee ballot unless the person is “indefinitely confined” according to state law. County clerks in Democrat-leaning counties advised voters to illegally mischaracterize that they were “indefinitely confined” to circumvent state law requiring phono identification. Only legally cast votes should be counted in the final results.
Yes...the above are Dane and Milwaukee Counties. Let's hope this get's good.
The Dem doxxed the Rep's children and their school. Then she caved. Now she's rescinding the cave. Good for her. It's an important enough story that even the WaPo has to obscure it.
When are the Republicans going to learn from Democrats that doxing political opponents' children is good civics.
Here is this morning’s Wash Post story regarding Monica Palmer and William Hartman rescinding their certification votes in Wayne County via affidavit. I’m linking the Wash Post since it is in vogue here.
ABC Radio news is pointing out how Trump is focusing on Black-dominant counties. The narrative is going to be that Republicans want to disenfranchise Black voters. Never mind that most of the illegal voting is occurring in these two counties.

(civil war maps call it that)
But!
by 1907 the government built the Anacostia bridge, and the bill talks about:
the Eastern Branch of the Potomac or Anacostia River
so, sometime around the turn of the century?
Trump is focusing on black counties because that is precisely where Dems have focused the bulk of their voter fraud for decades, precisely so they can scream "racist!" whenever it is caught. And so far it has always always always worked. We'll never have a better chance than this to destroy that avenue of consequence free voter fraud. Until we do, we are in banana republic status.
The Governor was the subject of an actual death plot and she is still on the job, unflinching
For a person that continually claims to have a law degree, and passed the Bar, you continually make stupid statements no person with a rudimentary understanding of law would make. There is an allegation. That's it an allegation. There's a better than 50/50 chance the alleged plot was conceived and pursued by the FBI undercover operative. Like the George Floyd case, facts are looking like no crime has happened.
lawyer my ass
Kind of ironic to scream "racism" (snore . . .) for seeking accurate and lawful counts in an election where, by all appearances, the Republican did better among black voters than any Republican presidential candidate in living memory.
The governor is protected by a squad of state troopers.
The election board members might have SimpliSafe at their houses.
Such a brave governor.
What will be interesting if the voter fraud being documented every day leads to the conclusion that blacks -were- disenfranchised in large numbers, but not by Trump, by the Democrat voter fraud itself. That blacks in those 6 cities turned just as much towards Trump as they did everywhere else in the country, but it was the Democrats who stole or changed their votes.
Something like that *should* accelerate the preference cascade that was already underway away from the Democrats for generations.
Which is why you can smell the flop sweat from miles away, and all the fake concern trolls everywhere are demanding that Trump "stop. Stop right now.". Yeah, no, and GFY.
The Governor was the subject of an actual death plot and she is still on the job, unflinching.
Tell me again exactly how many Michigan State Troopers Wayne County Board of Canvassers have as bodyguards, MegaMind.
You're a particularly dumb, boring and lazy liar, Chuck.

The first city named for George Washington was in NC in 1776; the first larger region named for GW was the Washington District of NC in 1777--what would become Washington County TN (which originally covered most of what would be the 16th state before spawning off other counties--Greene, Hamilton, Davidson etc.).
I spent a summer in Alexandria VA (Summer of 69 my left foot). It was about as miserably hot and humid as home.

Readering has been gleefully posting about every withdrawal of a Republican lawyer from Trump's team in response to these threats. Actively gloating every single time the Left's thuggery works.
“I spent a summer in Alexandria VA (Summer of 69 my left foot). It was about as miserably hot and humid as home.”
For me, it was Arlington in the summer of 1975. One bedroom apartment with no A/C. Lying in bed every night, too hot and humid to fall asleep until 1-2 AM. What was fun though was that I was working in Suitland, MD (Census) and would drive to work every day over the TEDDY Roosevelt Bridge, around the monuments, and then down Suitland Parkway. It was a pretty beet drive. But I ultimately got enough money together so that I could afford an air conditioned apartment down by work. The drive was nowhere near as inspiring, but I could sleep at night. Or work from home. Beginning of a bad habit of working when I wasn’t eating or sleeping.
Bottom line is the Democrats want to steal the election and DO NOT CARE about voter fraud. No matter how massive or blatant it is. This includes Every Democrat secretary of state in the battleground states AND every Democrat Judge.
They.Do.Not.Care. The only way to get them to provide a legal count, is to get the state legislatures, Republican governors, or Republican Judges to overrule them and give us a fair and impartial count and audit.
That's it folks. Stop thinking you can provide overwhelming evidence to democrats and they will "play fair" or even do their job. They have only one motto: "Just win baby, just win".
The Republicans are always Charlie Brown and the Democrats are always Lucy with the football. How many times do you have to be lied to, or have someone break the rules, for you to stop thinking some "promise" or "agreement" is worth anything?
But then that's the difference between the Right and the Left and the Republicans and the Democrats. The R's just want to be "Good losers", and the D's just want to win.
We walked over the bridge from the Jefferson monument to the Robert E. Lee's house in Arlington. He and his wife had quite a view of the river and Washington DC. It must have pained him that the US Government seized his property and turned most of it into a Cemetary.
No decent person would believe Chuck about anything, given his history.
Chuck's bias was bad enough. His lying should qualify him as a troll. Of course, then we have readering and gadfly and Cook. Cook just doesn't like anybody and I agree sometimes but it is funny when he calls me "angry."
Here is the Affidavit of Wayne County Board of Canvassers member Monica Palmer:

The only threats and intimidation she’s mentioning are the “chiding” ones she got in an open meeting, with online attendees. She’s also blaming poor legal advice for her decision to certify the canvas. Her affidavit is notarized by the crank ex-mayor of Troy who was ousted in a recall election some years ago. (She’s not even a Wayne County notary; she was just the handiest Trump maniac who also was a notary)
This is the Gang That Can’t Shoot Straight. The Republicans’ fifth-string rejects.
I'm sure Chuck's right hand is tired after reading S.E. Cupp's call to imprison anyone who worked for Trump and every other Republican this morning. My local rag printed it.
I also see that Chuck is cheering on the Democrat who named names of the Republican county lady's children and also their school with essentially "Go here and kill them." Nothing would make Chuck happier than for Democrats to start killing "obnoxious" Republicans.
Right "I'm better than you in all ways" Chuck? Right now, it would be a tossup between you an Inga and Howard over who would fight more to be the guard pulling the "Zylon B" lever at the camp for Republicans.
Don't look now, Chuck the c#*t, but it looks like your little vote manufacturing scheme has unraveled.

Ummm. The news from Washington (the news from everywhere, right?) is that the election is over because the election is over. The voters of Michigan have spoken. Some partisan hacks inventing bullshit does not mean the election is still happening. It's over. Donald Trump lost. Get over it.
"with many accusing Palmer and Hartmann of racism for calling into question the results from majority-Black Detroit precincts."
Now you see it, now you don't. What? That one is supposedly racist not for actually making an accusation of fraud, but merely for raising the possibility that there might have been.
Because, "questioning" naturally leads to calls to investigate, and when it's become racist merely to question something then actually investigating would be shameful.
So why, exactly, is it so vital that these results not be investigated that the morals of those who merely want a closer look must be shamed into retreat?
