Reminds me of the Doors song:

There’s an emu on the loose
There’s an emu on the loose.
He’s bigger than a goose
But smaller than a moose.
If you lure him with a pear
You can return him to his lair...

The last few weeks our block has acquired a population of three wild turkeys. They mostly just wander around people's yards and drive the local dogs bonkers. Weird. Not so weird as an emu, though.

With emus, as with ostriches, laying on one's back and pedaling one's feet in the air will attract the beasts. Yes, it is true, and I have no idea why. They also sort of play fetch .

The lured him with a pair of what?

This is a very serious situation. Emus are spectacularly cunning. They even won a war.

DON'T MESS WITH EMUS.

Liberty Mutual is, after all, a Boston based firm.

The Maine Press Herald reported the capture of a Moose in South Portland the other day. Headline informed us that said moose had been "on the lam" for two days.

2020 just gets weirder and weirder.

Reminds me of the time I saw a little black pig with a collar walking on the sidewalk in the neighborhood.
Was on my way to a job and didn't notice any obvious open gates so wasn't much I could do.
When I see loose dogs, I give 'em a stern "Go home, you bad boy".
When I see a kid chasing their loose dog, brings back memories, and stirs sympathetic feelings,'cause they can follow it all day until it gets bored and allows you to catch up, or goes home.

Are you sure that wasn't an emu you heard this morning?

I want to live in a town where the big news each morning isn't some journ-o-list complaining about the president. Even when he's sick, they complain about that.

mimicking a tardy emu = emulate

... they ARE tasty though!

I've been to Haverhill, MA and depending on the neighborhood, that emu was likely looking to get out fast!

Looks very emu-motional with that pear.

emus are Very photogenic. I thought I remembered an old-time poem with an emu in it, but I went to allpoetry.com and although there are at least five emu poems there, I could not find the poem (Victorian?Edwardian? translated from another language) .

Oh while proofreading the previous paragraph I just remembered - it was Walter de la Mare, and it was not an emu, it was another large bird (sadly, not a live one - it was a display in a museum). I thought before I remembered that the poem was written by a woman, but it wasn't, although it features a loving young couple (male and female).
