Inappropriate appropriation.

Plus, she's wearing a CHAIN around her neck!!! I bet her bikini top is tied in a noose.
Seriously, though, she's unrecognizable since her weight loss.

I like the way she appropriates that Jamaican bikini.

But I've been told that race doesn't exist?

There is a big difference between what people have a right to do, and what other people might think is the right thing to do. The former class is much larger than the latter, and the distinction is critical. Progressives seem to believe that others should be compelled, legally or socially, to do what Progressives think is the right thing. Conservatives believe people should be able to do what they want, subject to the rights of others. And never having to roll your eyes or shake your head at someone else's behavior is not a right.

There *were* people who were indigenous to Jamaica, but they weren't black and they weren't white. White and black people have been in Jamaica an equal amount of time. My husband's English ancestors are by way of Jamaica, they settled there as missionaries hundreds of years ago. So Jamaica as a country doesn't really belong to white or black people. There's no problem with Adele wearing their flag as a bikini top.

I don't think people in America who are prone to thinking about cultural appropriation rule what people in other countries think. I know this is how people dress for the Notting Hill festival, which is actually a drugs and urine soaked festival in Notting Hill, but when people flock there they are all Jamaican-garbed or Carnivale-garbed. I think it's cultural appropriation to think she needs to follow what a bunch of Americans think she should do.

I'm not actually a member of the Boston Red Sox baseball team, but I wear a Red Sox tee-shirt and hat from time to time. Is that appropriation?

Clearly defined racial boundaries MUST be policed! Well excuse me Titania. That means no more Jamaican bobsled teams. Those pesky Jamaicans are appropriating Swiss and German bobsleds. No can do. Glad you instructed us Titania.

I think I've seen Celtic and maybe even Pictish hairstyles like this.

Who were the Picts? Talk about a canceled culture...

On the other hand, white people are required to appropriate the "Black Power" fist.

I feel sorry for the poor Jamaican girl who now can't wear her hair like this. Didn't Adele ever learn about conservation of total hairstyle in her science classes?

The tragedy of scalp warts. Sad.

They get crazier as the year goes by. Just as long as they stay with the other crazies and leave us normies alone. I used to stay in Notting Hill when visiting London. I even had a favorite "short lettings" flat.

Are there some commenters not yet aware of who Titania is?

Diversity (i.e. color judgment, class-based taxonomy) breeds adversity.

High-profile black figures including Naomi Campbell and MP David Lammy have defended Adele over claims of cultural appropriation

Uncle Toms acting white. That said, the social justice holes... whore h/t NAACP have well and truly jumped the ass.

How about, it's my hair and I'll do what I want with it?

Decline happens so fast these days. The intellectual abortion known as "cultural appropriation" is only a few years old and already we are rioting over the white supremacy of arresting black men for sexual assault. It used to take a generation for that kind of leap into the abyss.

I'm kind of wowed by the number of people here who aren't familiar with one of the most famous anti-woke satirists on Twitter.

I'm a blonde man. My paternal grandmother came from a family that was mostly of German descent and was quite blonde in her younger days. I have several aunts who are/were blonde and a large number of cousins, both male and female, who are natural blondes.

So lets talk about all the Black/Hispanic/Asian women I see out and about who've dyed their hair blonde! I mean, how often does blonde hair occur naturally among these ethnic groups? Very rarely, in my experience. So I'll make a deal with you ladies; if you stop physically appropriating my hair color, I'll damn well make sure I don't culturally appropriate your culture.

(Phew! Just needed to get that off my chest!)

Amen! Chubby (not Fat) Adele was a hottie!

Never mind.

Not being woke -- in any sense of the term -- I just learned that "Tatania McGrath" is a made-up character. Kind of like any Dem politician I guess, only her creator is open about her being a fictional character (even though I'm only now hearing about it).

Other than looking stupid, who really cares about Adele? Overrated.

Well at least Michelle wears black wigs. I wonder where the hair comes from?

Titania. Like in "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

You just have to look at this picture to see that white people are far more intelligent than Black people. Her intelligence and good taste are here for all to see. What a welcome contrast with Melania and Micehlle.

My understanding of current genetics is that it is corollary.(kinda like no back without a front)

Genes expressed behavior is based on different stimuli(environment)

But what do I know I'm just a scruffy guitarist :D

The assertion that "cultural appropriation" is a bad thing only makes sense if one is a racist.

If we imagine a human being that is not racist at all, they wouldn't be able to understand this. It just simply wouldn't make sense to them.

If someone thinks first that "cultural appropriation" is a genuine thing and second that it is wrong, then that's only possible if they are perceiving the world through a racist lens.

Yes, Titiana is a satire, but there are real people who are upset about Adele today.

I hold no grudges against chubby gals who belt out songs.

I do abhor this recent style of singing where the young woman sings very softly, sounding tentative, confused and like she just woke up.

There really oughtta be a law...

Adele lost 100 pounds and looks completely different.

She actually looked great fat and it’s hard to adjust to the new face, but I’m sure this is healthier.

Jupiter said...

"She actually looked great fat ...".

Well, aside from the fact that she looked kind of fat.

Black people will refuse to accept that freaky looking homely woman no matter how much culture she appropriates.

Does this “cultural appropriation” thingy work both ways? Cause I see AA chicks with straight blond hair all de time. Do Da Do Da.

100 pounds lost and 10 years younger. The losses appear to be healthy and sustainable.

Some people are more beautiful with fuller faces and more weight. Adele is one of those people.

Yeah, she did. She looks greater slender, too, less the curlers.

Definitely need more analysis of the bikini. . . . . .

Adele has a lovely voice and singing style, I really enjoy her music. She is not an attractive woman to start with, but was pleasant to observe until she dropped all the weight. That makeup on her eyes isn't complimenting anything either. And that hairstyle, whether appropriated or not, is down right ugly.

Virgil Hilts said...

Adele did not look great before. She looks awesome now. Of the people I follow on Twitter I know of at least two who are attractive from their photos (neither posts endless selfies and I follow them for their commentary) and who also lost over 100 pounds. That is kind of scary but also inspiring.

Mark said...

Titania. Like in "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

here's a ProTip!
If you're going to make a snarky, or otherwise derisive comment about someone....
AND, you don't know if that person is a real person or not....
Maybe (just Maybe!) you'd be better off not posting

I hate to sound like a male chauvinist pig, but if the shoe fits.....

I don't think it's necessarily the weight loss so much as she seems to have decided that she needs to wear little or no makeup now.
