Ironically, the subtitle — "The federal Election Assistance Commission has neglected key responsibilities or ceded them to other agencies — and two of its four commissioners are parroting the president’s unfounded warnings about vote by mail" — sounded to me like the kind of "partisan bickering" decried in the title.
[EAC Commissioner Donald Palmer] had testified at the second and final meeting of Trump’s Voter Fraud Commission. He frequently retweets popular conservative talking points, denouncing Antifa and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Palmer’s backyard has an inground pool. On March 18, as election officials across the country grappled with the implications of a pandemic for upcoming primaries, Palmer tweeted a midday poolside selfie. Elections directors were outraged. “I’m trying to I figure out how to completely rehaul my election, and this asshole is tweeting pictures of himself sunbathing,” one texted to me.

Obama may have politicized the IRS and FBI, but we can really trust the fine folks at the Postal Service.
So, concern for the integrity of American elections is somehow negated by a poolside tweet?
Most Democrats are insane but there are some who haven't totally surrendered their cognition to hysteria. They know there's a crushing coming and are desperate to muddy the waters in any way possible.
All I know is the dem push for unqualified 'mail-in' voting is a complete scam. Imagine you won the PowerBall. Would you mail your ticket to collect or take it in person, preferably with a private security detail? Now, ask yourself the same question about mail-in ballots. The dead shall rise again, once during the last judgement, and every November for Democrat corruption.
Aside from the obvious security weaknesses, citizens owe each other a duty to listen. The owe each other the possibility, however unlikely, that they will be persuaded by a candidate's words and demeanor to vote for him or her. Carrying out that duty is impossible once the vote has been placed in a mailbox.
We'll never know if one of the liberal members of the commission did the same thing as Palmer.
Calling it 'hysteria' is premature since we can't conclude the fraud is occurring or not because nobody is really auditing.
It's science!
We do ave anecdotal evidence there's some deliberate manipulation...and there's good reason to suspect it may be a major problem with the widespread adoption of mail in ballots.
The intensity of the left objecting to any kind of checking is also suspicious, to say the least...
Gee I wish Trump hadn't made such a fuss about vote by mail. It think it advantages Republicans more than Democrats. The Demo kidz are constantly moving and have so much trouble with stuff like deadlines and paperwork n shit.
And how different can it be from absentee voting? No one's been able to explain to me how fraud schemes work. I'm all ears. The big scandal in New Jersey was uncovered through signature verification, which shows the typical voting system works.
Anyway, both sides have cast doubt on election results in advance, so I hope it's landslide one way or the other.
Nothing wrong with the selfie. I could do the same but I know Ann does not like Men in Shorts. It's hot here in Florida in July. And for those of us working from home, there are various remedies including (for those with a pool) taking a dip. It's #87 on the Reasons to not live in New York list.
Checklist:
1) ProPublica is a noted Marxist radio network who's biggest claim to fame is somehow managing to have capitalists pay for their viewpoint year in and year out. But once in awhile they hit on a topic that needs to be paid attention to. This is one of them.
2) There has been reams of documented election fraud since the Kennedy years. And many more anecdotal examples abound for decades. Every time they are produced, the left ignores them and keeps on their narrative that there's nothing to see here.
3) The most important safety issue we have is the security of our elections. We go through this every 2 years and in a larger capacity, every 4 years. And at the end of each Presidential election I say aloud- "well, we have 4 years to get this straightened out, get it right, and save the Republic.". And nothing happens- ever.
4) Which makes me believe that the system is completely corrupted and certain people like it just the way it is.
5) We have ballot harvesting in California. A security nightmare in it's own right. And it's going to be used elsewhere going forward.
6) Mail-in ballot voting failed in Wisconsin and New York- both recently. Like now. In New York 20% of ballots are being tossed. Hundreds (thousands?) of others just being 'disappeared'.
The security of elections is everything. And I always wonder why anyone would feel secure with electronic voting. Not like anything electronic ever gets hacked. We need (a) Voter ID. You have to prove you are a citizen and legally registered. If not this, then there is no reason to have a citizenry. (b) Written ballots. With pen. Go back to the old way. People can count. There is no other way to do this.
"sounded to me like the kind of "partisan bickering""
Partisan bickering = progs complaining that deplorables haven't rolled over yet to facilitate their schemes.
the president’s unfounded warnings about vote by mail
I don't know how they can so cavalierly claim that Trump's concerns about vote by mail are "unfounded". I hope they're not attempting to infer that it's impossible that voter fraud could happen with mail in ballots. They couldn't be that stupid, right?
Are they suggesting that it's ridiculous to assume that fraud would occur when voting by mail? That's also illogical.
why would the dems push for if it wasn't effective, you need to have a reliable chain of custody of the ballots as I've often explained,
Not only can Michael Jackson still vote, thanks to ♥Science♥, he's been charged with voting fraud involving mail-in ballots.
I have a library of URL links in my bookmarks to articles from all over the country from the past 2-3 years of problems with voting by mail. Some of it is fraud and some of it comes from the process, which is not secure enough to ensure that the mailed-in ballot will be received in time at the proper location, in proper condition, to be counted.
Some people fail to understand the difference between absentee ballots and mail-in ballots. An absentee ballot has to be requested by the voter and signed in the presence of a notary. With ballot by mail everyone believed to be a voter receives a ballot at their home address and completes it and returns it without a notary. Then, you hope it arrives at the right place, at the right time, to be counted. There has been lot of fraud associated with this the of voting.
Except for an absentee ballots, there is no reason to have vote by mail. All voters should go to the polls and vote in person by filling in the appropriate form, signing with a valid signature, and showing photo id.
That stupid complaint about the selfie reminds me of the people who got their knickers in a twist when nurses and doctors posted ticktocks of themselves dancing to some song or other in a hospital hallway. You can't conclude someone isn't working their ass off just because they did something fun.
Meanwhile, I don't know how widespread voter fraud is, but I know it exists and I know the Democratic Party actively and openly obstructs attempts to find out.

No, it doesn't. because Democrats are big into election and voting fraud, and Republicans are not.
The problems with "vote by mail":
1: There's a large number of "registered voters" out there who are "double registered" (name changed, they re-registered to vote. The old name is still registered, too), moved, or dead. So mailing out those ballots gives a lot of people a chance to vote twice, or more
2: "Vote by mail" means "send ballots to every registered voter, without them requesting the ballot". "Absentee balloting" means: "Specific people who meet the criteria and who make a valid request get sent a ballot." VBM means people won't be on the look-out for the ballots, and won't be able to do anything if the ballot is stolen, and sent in by someone else. Multiple people have been caught doing exactly that so far this year. How many haven't been caught?
3: 100,000 votes in teh CA "vote by mail" primary were disqualified. You're a Democrat vote counter. Gee, it sure is amazing how many of the ballots that came back from registered Republicans "failed" their signature check.
With no notification to the voter. no chance to appeal. An appeal that would have to be in person. So much for all that "safe distancing".
Any other questions?
Carol said...And how different can it be from absentee voting? No one's been able to explain to me how fraud schemes work. I'm all ears. The big scandal in New Jersey was uncovered through signature verification, which shows the typical voting system works.
Easy. We have in the US something called the secret ballot--you walk into the voting booth alone. Nobody watches what you do in there. Nobody can pressure you to vote against your judgment. You can't sell your vote, because only you know how you voted.
Schemes to have people vote elsewhere undermine this system because anybody can be in the room with you, anybody can be watching, we don't even know if it's you filling out your ballot. Your right to vote your conscience without any coercive influence is violated.
Palmer’s backyard has an inground pool.
The disparity is most pronounced in swimming pools; African American children 5-19 drown in swimming pools at rates 5.5 times higher than those of whites. This disparity is greatest among those 11-12 years where African Americans drown in swimming pools at rates 10 times those of whites."
So Palmer is a racist.
When Trump wins about 40 states - even with massive Dem cheating - the losers are going to go insane. I'm expecting massive riots.
propublica originally funded by the sandler's, they do some good on occasion, like their report on the decline of naval readinees, but on balance,
@Carol
Dems just want to send out ballots to every registered voter. And they cry foul when anyone tries to eliminate inactive voters. With an absentee ballot, you as the voter initiate the process. Do you really trust Dem voting officials to match signatures? Especially when there are extra ballots hanging around everywhere?
Photos bragging about your relaxing outdoor setting by showing your legs have been the subject of scorn for so many years, and here's this guy doing it in 2020 and with his fat, hairy leg! Horrible!
How dare a person relax when I'm losing my ability to be rational!
"Vote Fraud Hysteria" - this is all battlespace preparation. If you believe there will be vote fraud, then you are hysterical.
Get ready for the most corrupt election in US history. It will be even worse than 1960.
Biden will win going away, and the media will break their necks looking the other way.
Remember when Obama won 20,000 to 0 in a set of 59 Philly districts? The NYT and team assured us this was all perfectly normal, even though it never happened before or since.
I agree with Temujin, except if he has a backyard pool to take selfies by, then he’s one up on me.
Unfounded concerns = Left wing bullshit. The Press and Democrats (is there a difference?) are trying to rig the election by having massive voter fraud by mail in ballots. Of course, one way to let the Left win, is by dismissing it all as "partisan bickering". Yeah, the D's want to rig it so they can win no matter what, the R's wan to stop them, so the "moderates" just go "lalalala" and ignore it.
Where are the fucking Republican Senators on this? Those shitheads are always AWOL on EVERYTHING except sniping at Trump or doing the bidding of the Chamber of Commerce.
BTW, one Press tactic is to label every Republican/Conservative concern or claim as "Unfounded" or "Without evidence" or "Hysteria". No one - you see - cares about voter Fraud except those damn Republicans. Same thing with the riots, no violence going on there, "Antifa" doesn't even exist. Just Republicans trying to stir up their base - WITHOUT EVIDENCE.
Meanwhile, Trump-Russia TONS Of evidence there. Trump guilty of something, its obvious. Its amazing the press gets away with it.
The Press and the Democrats claim ANY attempt to verify citizenship or even the existence of a voter is "Suppression". Everyone -except them or the Left-wing Judges - understands you should be able to prove who you say you are before you vote. Yet, they sreech and scream voter suppression. And now the game is to Vote by mail. How do we keep illegals from voting? We don't. How do we keep dead people or kids voting? we don't. How do we keep people from voting twice? We don't.
And lets not even talk about poll workers "losing" ballots or changing them. You'd think HONEST people would be upset at their vote being CANCELLED by voter fraud, but hey NOTHING can get the average American Conservative/Republican upset about anything. Except maybe increasing the Capital Gains Tax or Gun registration.
and here's this guy doing it in 2020 and with his fat, hairy leg! Horrible!
That's just mean. It's undoubtedly his best-looking body part.

Men people are yucky, especially the ones with legs.
And that's partly, but not completely, because their following of fashion trends on social media is not as assiduous as it's supposed to be.
I think it's weird that the hair on men's legs bothers you, Althouse.
So, concern for the integrity of American elections is somehow negated by a poolside tweet?
There's nothing more galling than people you hate actually enjoying their lives, instead of killing themselves.
If the opportunity for fraud exists, there will be fraud. Progressives are currently in the process of burning down their cities in their national hissy fit. You'd have to be an idiot to believe they would consider voter fraud to be too extreme an idea for them to attempt.
Funny cartoon version:
"And by the way, I got hairy legs that turn blonde in the sun. The kids used to come up and reach in the pool and rub my leg down so it was straight and watch the hair come back up again. So I learned about roaches, I learned about kids jumping on my lap. And I've loved kids jumping on my lap."
Delay the spread with spikes.
Stay at home with pool privilege.
It is indeed a Chinese ("Zoom") world for humanitarian and Green causes.

Jokes about election fraud.
Voting more than once? Damn near physically impossible.
Voting from cemeteries? Can't be done.
Voting in someone else's name? Not with secure voter ID cards that can only be used for voting. "No ticket, no washee" como se dice en mi Barrio.
Absolutely trustworthy elections. Not good politicians but at least they are elected honestly.

I've never heard of the old relaxing outdoor setting showing your legs faux pas.
But I recall in March everybody and their dog was tweeting pics and comments about themselves in their new, staying-at-home work environment
16 trimesters and in progress.
Will people ever learn that Twitter is toxic?
It is the most destructive product to be foist upon the world since Thalidomide.
"How Voter-Fraud Hysteria and Partisan Bickering Ate American Election Oversight."
Pure propoganda from the crowd who believe elections are fraud free. We have spent trillions on helping minorities with anti-poverty programs. But not even a rounding error in terms of dollars for protecting their one basic right - voting. After some 40 years of voting in various locations across the USA, I would venture to say, that their is no place federal, state, county, city, etc., which is not infected with voter fraud. We are after all human beings, flesh and blood, suspect to temptation - anyone who believes different lives in a bubble which can't be cleansed because the propoganda controls your life.

Where did I say it did?
There’s a difference between having a body part and thinking it’s a good idea to thrust a photo of just the part in people’s face.
Otherwise everyone who didn’t appreciate unsolicited dick pic texts could be accused of being bothered by penises.

Remember that whenever politician's post pictures of their hairbrush in front of their naked crotch. Oh wait, you did accuse people bothered by that of being bothered by the sexual organ rather than what the picture showed them doing.
I was an election judge for 30 years, mostly in Minnesota, which has election day registration. That means one can show up at the precinct with some sort of proof of residence (a cell phone bill!) and valid ID (the ID need not show current address).
Or:
An ID, plus a registered voter in the precinct can vouch for your place of residence. A voucher can vouch up to ten times (used to be unlimited).
The rules are complicated. Judges are volunteers who do this one day in two years. There can be a lot of pressure to push people through the lines. The worst precincts are those with a lot of folks under 30; these people do not bother updating ID or voter registration.
Now here's the thing: I, as a judge, can say to a guy: You can't vote. Your ID shows an address outside the precinct. Now another person standing nearby can approach the rejected voter. Say, rejected voter, I can help you. What's your address? Okay, now we will tell this judge that I know you and your address and can vouch for you.
This can happen right in front of me. But once this voucher does so, and the rejected voter is now approved, I cannot prevent the vote. Even if a poll watcher objects, all I can do, as judge, is administer an oath to the effect of "yer not lying, right?" If rejected, now accepted voter so swears, he's in.
New voter now gets a ballot, and votes. That ballot goes through the ballot counter. It is a counted vote. Even if the attorney general walks in and says, "Stop that man! He's lying!" that vote is already counted. There is no way to uncount it. The ballot is indistinguishable from the others.
I have watched this happen many times, well, except for the AG part. In Minnesota the AG would probably threaten me for even questioning the voter. He was my congressman, and before that my state representative.
So, you get someone to register by mail, in August, in a particular precinct. No one verifies that that person lives at a particular address. That person can now usher in ten people to vote. One can even use the same ten at every precinct in town, because no one will audit the registrations and wonder why there are 120 Judy Byerleys in Minneapolis. And the voucher? He never has to show an ID to anyone! So there's no danger that an audit would point to him. He can make up his whole persona. No one is checking.
That is how vote fraud happens in Minnesota. The year Al Franken won the senate recount, a citizen group proved more ineligible felons voted than the margin of victory--and they only checked the two biggest counties. No one went to jail for it and most weren't even charged.
"There is no voter fraud" because the ones responsible for finding it are deliberately looking the other way.
"Photos bragging about your relaxing outdoor setting by showing your legs have been the subject of scorn for so many years, and here's this guy doing it in 2020 and with his fat, hairy leg! Horrible!"
Brutal. Several Kardashians just hung their heads in shame.
"...here's this guy doing it in 2020 and with his fat, hairy leg! Horrible!"
Hey lady, I resemble that remark!
If you said, "Why did he think it was a good idea to send me a picture of his dick?" Horrible!!
Then I would think the picture of his dick was unwanted.
If you said "Why did he think it was a good idea to send me a picture of his fat, hairy dick? Horrible!"
Then I would think the descriptors were part of the reason you didn't like the picture. Otherwise, why mention them?
“ I think it's weird that the hair on men's legs bothers you, Althouse.”
Where did I say it did?
Right here:
"hairy leg! Horrible!"
It's real obvious; and it has nothing at all to do with men wearing shorts, correct?
"There’s a difference between having a body part and thinking it’s a good idea to thrust a photo of just the part in people’s face."
Even weirder than being bothered by a harmless picture of some man's hairy legs is describing the posting of that picture as "thrust[ing] a photo of just the part in people’s face." It's real obvious, and your dislike of men's bodies is pretty weird, as is your delusional denial of it.
"Why did he post this picture with those gorgeous, tanned legs? Horrible!"
See? Pairing it with positive attributions makes the statement make no sense.
I saw this elsewhere: If you won the Powerball, would you mail in your ticket? Or claim it in person?
Now do voting.
The year Al Franken won the senate recount, a citizen group proved more ineligible felons voted than the margin of victory--and they only checked the two biggest counties. No one went to jail for it and most weren't even charged.
The same person who spearheaded the Franken recount was the exact, same person who lead the charge in finding boxes of unsecure ballots in King County during the Rossi/Gregoire race in 2004. Paul Berendt.
A large case of voter fraud in a recent NJ primary was uncovered by postal workers. Hundreds of ballots wrapped together by rubber bands were found in a few mailboxes. Next time the fraudsters will know to take off the rubber bands and use more than a couple of mailboxes.
and with his fat, hairy leg! Horrible!
Meade, it sounds like Ann is thinking about replacing you with a Lance Armstrong-type bike racer that shaves his legs. Be aware.
I think it's weird that the hair on men's legs bothers you, Althouse.
Oh, God no! Meade's one of them there manscapers? Get outta Denver, baby! This will end with your testicles resting in a jar on the fireplace mantle.
Vote by mail should be tested in just one state. And analyzed rigorously. Or pick one clearly red state and one clearly blue one. Election rules should change slowly as the capability of the Election Health managers is often political expertise instead of election expertise.
Or let BLM run the election and live will all the results.
Oh, and I'm not doing election judge anymore, because I've done my time. Y'all can volunteer for the 14-hour days.
I was contacted by our city election folks to be a pre-election vote counter. Because they're expecting a huge amount of mailed ballots, they want to count as many as they receive before the primary (and presumably the general election, too). They were offering $21/hr, for ten 8-hour days.
That's the other thing about all of this free-love ballot crap. It is expensive. Worst is the ranked-choice voting in city elections in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Each ballot has to be counted multiple times for each race. It's a big operation; there's at least 80 people doing it for days and days.
The suburbs have not been so stupid as to adopt ranked-choice, although there were attempts to get it in statewide by decree of our governor. He's just decided that he needs yet another 30 days of ruling by decree. The only way to end it is for the legislature to vote to overrule him, and the Democrats control the state house, so that ain't happening.
Is that a noose in the pool?
