But a "wolf whistle" is...
... a distinctive two-note glissando whistled sound made to show high interest in or approval of something or someone, especially a woman viewed as physically or sexually attractive. Today, a wolf whistle directed at a woman is sometimes considered a precursor to sexual harassment, or a form of sexual harassment in itself. Not everything is about racism and Trump.
According to Adam Edwards of Daily Express, the wolf whistle originates from the navy General Call made with a boatswain's pipe. The General Call is made on a ship to get the attention of all hands for an announcement. Sailors in harbour would whistle the General Call upon seeing an attractive woman to draw fellow sailors' attention to her. It was eventually picked up by passers-by, not knowing the real meaning of the whistle, and passed on. During a 2015 broadcast of A Way with Words, doubt was cast upon this explanation by lexicographer Grant Barrett, who noted that it was very thinly supported. The Turn To Call is far closer to the wolf whistle than the General Call.
The standard sound for a coin insertion for the Bally Manufacturing pinball machine "Playboy" (featuring iconography from Playboy magazine) is the wolf whistle.
In the never-ending quest to impugn Donald Trump, as you invent new terms and think you are clever, try checking whether the terms are already taken.

And the normal response applies, if you can hear the dog/wolf whistle, then you are the dog/wolf. As MSNBC tries to project the incitement to violence on the right, I see no urge to violence other than in defense of what I'm seeing from the left. I don't listen to Trump, but I didn't listen to Obama either. They don't rise me to violence. But I will be violent if these protests, like they have suggested, move into the neighborhoods. That's not a response to a whistle but to an overt action.
I heard someone say on satrad that "Trump is a racist." It was just a casual statement of a known fact. The reasoning therefore must be that anyone who votes for Trump is a racist.
As I got into my car this morning, I caught the end of a discussion of what I think was Donald Trump's racism. I had MSNBC on the satellite radio, so it was "Morning Joe."
Why do you continue to listen to this every morning? I mean, seriously, why? It's satellite radio: there's literally a hundred other channels you could listen to. Why listen to this bilge...?
So did Joe or anyone go "'wolf whistle'? wtf?" like you could do on Twitter?
Clearly that kind of thing is needed.
"Today, a wolf whistle directed at a woman is sometimes considered a precursor to sexual harassment, or a form of sexual harassment in itself." I mean, it still works for Trump.
These people who continue to view themselves as 'clever' and the most brilliant people- they and their bobble-headed nodding friends- have long since been tuned out by most of America. These are the brilliant elite. Our 'experts' on various topics. The Master Emoters, who send articles to the NY Times about how they feel about being Trans or this or that, during the time of Covid or the time of white reflection on black anger.
These people are imposters, posers. And they are tedious. So fucking tedious just listening to their hate-filled dialectic with spittle flying all ways from their faces has gotten so old and tiring. Boring. Tedious.
I hope there are a hundred million people around this country just sitting there stewing, waiting for November.
Men admiring attractive women is acting as natural as it gets. Blame the Creator. And men showing that admiration in public is part of being alive and not half dead. Whistle away. Time , tide, and female beauties, wait for no man.
I wonder if there was a name for the noise in the video clip when the wolf suddenly snaps into elongated rigidity, instantly a symbolic, whole-body, levitating erection. Is that image a dog whistle, or does a dog whistle have to be more subtle?
Isn't thinking you're clever when you're not one of the definitions of hubris?
What would a guy with a British accent know about American politics or culture? Morning Joke must be having trouble finding guests.
Maybe he was saying "noose whistle".
Tex Avery rules!
Wolf whistles are dangerous? What nonsense!
Mika is just mad that no on has wolf whistled her since the Clinton administration.
Lol, terms that are already taken will be arbitrarily redefined to fit the new agenda.
Symbols, hand signs and hawaiian shirts will all be redefined to force a narrative. The rules will be constantly shifted and the goal posts moved so that any attempt to conserve content can be ignored and undermined.
There will be no principles left to defend and anyone can be made into a thought criminal at any whim.
The advocates for this will be shocked when the beast devours them in turn.
Whoa, check out the racism on that dame!
>>"I caught the end of a discussion of what I think was Donald Trump's racism."
>>"Somebody with an English accent was bemoaning someone who I can only assume was Trump..."
I didn't listen to the interview so I have no idea if it *was* about Trump's racism, but...
>>"Not everything is about racism and Trump."

that's NOTHING!
just LOOKING at a woman, is Sexual Harassment... JUST AS BAD AS RAPE!

yes, yes there is; it's call BOING
With these folks, clever ran out the door years ago.
The recipient of a wolf-whistle has the option to smile, to show annoyance, or to ignore the gesture. Agency, you know. Women have agency.
And, sorry, Althouse, but everything else really is about Trump and racism.
Context of No Context. Again.
There are plenty of Brits and other furriners who understand our country pretty well, but they don't get invited to pontificate on Mourning Joka.
Never judge all members of a racial, ethnic, religious, or national group based on the fact that a member lowers him-, her-, or ze-self to appear on MSNBC.

Lupus sibilus . . . I may change my handle
Everything sounds more intelligent in an English accent. I mean a posh English accent, of course, not the brutish voice of a Deplorable like Tommy Robinson.
Wolf whistles are so 1950's. In 2020, young men are IM-ing pictures of their dick.
I think Anthony Weiner had ten standard dick pictures (all in different poses) that he would text young girls with. No "wolf whistles" for him.
"Not everything is about racism and Trump."
Yes, I suppose a hard-core feminist ideologue like yourself must feel rather left out, now that the Owners have decided it's time to play the Negro card again. Somehow, the Sisterhood is never as powerful as the Brothers.
Playboy pinball machine?! Wow, this takes me back. My roommate and I would play this machine after dinner in the game room underneath Muir College Commons at UC San Diego back in 1980. I don't remember the wolf whistle when you dropped in your quarter.
YouTube has videos of this table, with game play, but no coin drop wolf whistle. I'll have to keep Googling. Maybe someone has recorded this step in the game play process.
It is so weird to hear the game sounds again ... definitely a throwback to simpler times. There is no way any college would allow a game with Playboy graphics on campus anymore, right?
When the wolf whistles, he is cat calling.
I thought the whole point of Trump is that he forthrightly and unambiguously says what other politicians feel they must say in code. Whatever you think about Trump’s “Mexican rapists” comment, it’s the antithesis of a dog whistle. Whether wolf whistle is a better description of Trump’s current Trumpiness would depend on the context, but I just can’t muster the energy to find and watch a Morning Joe clip — it probably is related to the fact that I haven’t owned a television in twenty years and can’t figure out why these cable news shows with teeny-tiny audience numbers still play a role in our political culture.
>>I wonder if there was a name for the noise in the video clip when the wolf suddenly snaps into elongated rigidity, instantly a symbolic, whole-body, levitating erection.<<
"Schwing!" of course.
Deplorable like Tommy Robinson
I prefer the accents of the north to the posh RP.
We only had a Gorgar pinball machine in our local pizza joint back in the 1970s.
Hearing, "Gorgar hurt!" still brings a smile to my face.
As to whistles, perhaps one can include sexism in a wold whistle, along with the racism denoted by dog whistles. Or perhaps these idiots are hustlers looking to get on TV, to make a buck. I'm betting the latter.

I wonder the same, but the fact is that TV has become an echo chamber. Their voices are louder, and thus assumed to be pushing our culture. If you look at the numbers, more people went to the beach Memorial Weekend than participated in the protests for George Floyd. More people did other things at home during the week than decided to go out and topple or defend a statue. But in doing those things, their voices are silent.
"Schwing" is interesting. It was funny on Wayne's World, even though I had no idea that it was the name of a crane manufacturer until much later--they didn't have much penetration in this region I guess.
My U changed slogans a few years ago--it's now "Driven By Doing," which I never fail to use in greeting, only "doing" rhymes with "boeing" in my version.

Driven by "DOING" especially in the summers

You'd be on double secret probation or expelled.
Sexual Harassment and You
Be handsome.
Be attractive.
Don't be unattractive.
Classic.
I read about a man in colonial New England, who was brought up on charges for staring at an attractive woman in church. I think I saw it while helping someone research their colonial ancestors in Vermont. Everything old is new again.
