So, Althouse, are you still trying to decide how to vote in November?

Or are you preparing a Dem vote rationalization along the lines of, if Biden wins, Dems will "take responsibility" and the destruction of the culture will abate?

I'm torn between:

1. Send in the troops and,

2. Unfortunately, let more of this destruction happen so that more people see the actual actions of accepting this.

This isn't protesting. This is anarchy. It's accepted anarchy because it's happening during protests which no longer have a clear mission in mind.

This is why the constitution provides for militias. Because there are circumstances in which the government can not or will not provide adequate protection for civilian communities.

The NYT must be proud.

They've been peddling blatant anti-white racist propaganda for quite a while, so yes, they probably are proud.

Some of the messages written on the toppled monument included: "BLM"; "You're on native land"; "fuck cops"; "white fragility"; and "no good cops".

IOW, anti-white racist graffiti, nothing to do with Washington.

Again, "white fragility" is Newspeak for "white people are doubleplus ungood".

I had heard that in Scotland, a statue of Robert the Bruce was vandalized with the word "Racist" written on it.
Given that he was a Scottish King in the 1200-1300 era, and probably never met a non-white person in his life (I don't believe he ever left the British Isles), this is an amusing accusation. But he probably held the prevailing biases of his time, which could be summed up as "Hate the English", followed by "and their allies".
But the Bruce was white, and that's enough to vandalize the statue.

What happens when these miseducated yoof realize that slavery existed throughout history, that our Founding Documents wisely created a charter that could only be followed if Congress or some other force ended slavery? The hated Constitution is what ended slavery. The Civil War was Congress’s failure to do its job in the face of overwhelming cultural currents. The Supreme Court now avoids further culture war by doing Congress’s job.

"In 1980, the name “Emmett Till” did not appear in the pages of the NYT. In 1990 it showed up twice, and in 2000 four times.

From 2004 through 2012, the Times mentioned this old incident an average of nine times per year, and from 2013 to 2016 almost two dozen times per year.

Last year, “Emmett Till” appeared in 72 different Times articles.

All depictions of caucasian Americans are celebrations of racism, and have to be eliminated.

How boogaloo members allegedly used Facebook to plot a murder. To track down the suspects, the FBI pieced together surveillance videos, cellphone records and social media conversations.

‘"Go to the riots and support our own cause," Carrillo wrote in the Facebook group, referencing the boogaloo movement's anti-government beliefs and desire to spark a second civil war. "Use their anger to fuel our fire. Think outside the box. We have mobs of angry people to use to our advantage."

Facebook has increasingly become the place where extremist fringe groups coalesce and plan. It's where anti-government, pro-gun protesters coordinated demonstrations over coronavirus quarantines and where the far-right, neo-fascist group Proud Boys schemed to infiltrate George Floyd protests. Facebook is also where the boogaloo movement has taken off over the past year.”

That's just a cop out. The democratic party needs to be put down like a rabid pit bull.

It's about power, but a mixture of three things: first, the nihilists who just want to smash stuff for the feeling of power it gives them. Second, the activists who want to demonstrate their power by whipping up the mob, making corporations kneel, and generally humiliate their current target. They're doing so as a form of social positioning on the left. Finally, you have the ones who want to destroy these statues because they want to eliminate history, because doing so gives them power to try and reshape the identity of younger generations.

Slavery was a good deal. It just outlived its usefulness, courtesty of property rights and a free market, a Western invention.

In the prior "hit the guy on the head and take his stuff" economic systems, it was better to enslave your enemies than to kill them. A win-win.

In a system with property rights protected (no hitting you on the head, the state protects you), less is spent on defense and more on invention. A slave contributes more working in his own interest than he ever did as a slave. So the economics died.

Some bad reasons for continuing slavery came up to try to save it ("naturally enslaved" etc) once the economic reasons no longer applied, but they were doomed, at least in the West. Islam still has slaves with their basket case economics, so, you could say, for good reasons.

Also, America's original sin was not slavery, but tolerance of such practice, and it wasn't diversity, until, for example, skin and sex entered its Constitution.

Then, though, she tries to draw a false equivalency between this tiny lunatic fringe and the mobs that are responsible for damn near all the chaos, destruction, and crime being perpetrated, putatively in the name of George Floyd. (Of course no one but white progressives believes that looting is a political statement.) And she tries to draw a short straight line between that tiny lunatic fringe and ordinary conservatives. “Her eagerness to believe ridiculous accusations against those she’s chosen to hate make me understand how her people were so willing to accept Streicher’s lies.”

Boogaloo: The movement behind recent violent attacks. Authorities say the group has used recent protests as cover.

“Air Force Staff Sgt. Steven Carrillo and Richard Justus allegedly pulled up in a white van alongside a guard shack at the federal courthouse in Oakland, California, late last month and shot and killed a Federal Protective Service Contract Officer Patrick Underwood, critically injuring his partner. They allegedly fled the scene, which was near where protests were taking place in the wake of George Floyd’s death, setting off an eight-day manhunt.

The government alleges that Carrillo fled on foot, and then began carjacking innocent people using what is known as a ghost gun --- a firearm which is privately made and untraceable. Court documents say that when authorities searched his van they found a bulletproof vest with a patch on it that tied Carrillo to boogaloo.

The patch showed an igloo and Hawaiian-style print that are symbols of the movement. Authorities also say Carrillo scrawled "boog" in blood on the hood of one of the vehicles he stole.

Carrillo was charged with federal murder of the FPS officer and was charged with murder on the state level for allegedly murdering the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Sargent.

Near Las Vegas, three men with military experience who authorities say were connected to boogaloo, were arrested for allegedly trying to firebomb a Black Lives Matter protest last month.

Andrew Lynam, Stephen Parshall and William Loomis met by chance while attending ReOpen Nevada rallies in April and May, protesting against measures taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to court documents.

Brandishing automatic weapons, Lynam said at the rally his group "was not joking around" and "that it was for people who wanted to violently overthrow the United States government," court documents say.”

To date, Inga has not issued a single criticism of antifa killers/rioters/looters/molotov cocktail tossers.

Not a single time.

Interestingly, Inga has never actually referenced a single person murdered by her leftist pals. She blames it all on boogaloos.

This is similar to the fact that in all these years commenting at Althouse blog, Inga has also never written a single word of criticism for islamic supremacist mass murderers. Inga instead blames American Christians whenever islamic supremacists commit murder.

Inga spent weeks arguing Soleimani should not have been killed.

This represents a very clear and irrefutable pattern.

My favorite Inga-ism regarding this sort of thing is that Inga would never commit to an explicit statement that it was wrong to shoot republican congresspersons at a baseball practice after the BernieBro/Durbin ally shot up the republicans at a baseball field.

I think that the Dems know that absent something spectacular, they are going to get four more years of Trump. They desperately need to undermine his Presidency. They tried with COVID-19, but he handled the pandemic better than any major Dem politician possibly could even dream of doing. AntiFA has been planning these riots since at least last fall. Maybe much longer. It was their turn, and were ready to light the fuse, and then George Floyd died in police custody. So, the trigger was pulled. They would have had to do it anyway within a week or so, but this gave them a good excuse to riot.

How do they expect this to help them? By getting Trump to overreact. Someone explained it as a supposedly kinetic conflict that is really political in nature. What they wanted was Kent State, with the National Guard sent in and overreacting. Hopefully some dead bodies to prop up as martyrs. But Trump has managed to not fall for it. The only real use of overwhelming force was pushing the rioters another block away from the White House. And they treated it as a law enforcement issue, using federal law enforcement to track down AntiFA thugs and rioters who have violated federal laws, such as crossing state lines to participate in a riot. And all of a sudden, parents of AntiFA are finding out that their kids may not be returning to college, or even to their basements, aren’t getting a hand slap by sympathetic Dem prosecutors, but instead are facing hard time in federal facilities. This is all mostly under the table. But AntiFA violent fascist thugs are waking up, and there is really nothing that they can do about it, except give it up. Or go to federal prison. Rubbing salt into the wounds - it is mostly Klan laws being used against them.

(I am repeating myself in these tear it down, burn it up topics.)

Yale is named after a benefactor that did not just own slaves. He made the money he used for early funding of Yale as an actual slave TRADER.

Burn down that school! *
Salt the earth.
Leave no stone standing upon another.
Tear the diplomas from the walls of those graduates irredeemably tainted by the racist school. Make them apologize on bent knee for supporting that cesspool. Video the confession. Get them fired. Chase their children from the lily-white private schools they attend. Drain their bank accounts and spend it on BLM projects.

* Of course this is intended to be satire. I would never suggest such inappropriate actions, honestly Mom, I really wouldn't.... But how hard is it to imagine the potential end result of today's insanity?

is all the DEMOCRATIC statue-toppling being done in the darkNESS?

surreptitious and without pride AND COWARDS

As Fern noted, they painted "White Fragility" on the statue. The phrase was the subject of an Althouse post yesterday, before Washington fell, so I think she deserves credit for being on the cutting edge of the movement.

I had forgotten about the Lenin statue in Seattle. The mob leave it alone because it is on private property.

FYI, my parents were born again Christians, who were conservatives and voted Republican every election, as soon as they became citizens, which was 6 years after emigrating here.

The comedy continues unabated. "Some of my best friends are Republicans."

Perhaps. There have been private properties vandalized by the mob. Also, the public properties are a shared space.

Well, Inga, they must have dropped you on your head when you were a baby. If they were conservatives who voted Republican (of course, I take that with a bushel basket of salt, since you are an amoral liar and nobody should believe anything you say about yourself or your family) , they'd be ashamed of a daughter who hates America, hates her conservative neighbors and is indifferent to the destruction of American national icons.

I repeat: you are NOT an American. I would gladly take in 1000 of the brave Hong Kong protesters who fly the American flag while they face down real danger from the Communists, and send you there. They deserve freedom and you don't even know the meaning of the word. You'd be quite happy living under Chinese Communist rule and sending your neighbors to concentration camps.

The reason we knock down statues of G. Washington, etc., is that it annoys people that we want to annoy.

Exactly. That's the reason for cow tipping, babies on barbies, and blacks with necklaces, too. What are you going to do?

Yeah, it's a total joke. Inga's parents were conservative Christians, her neighbors are conservatives, and yet she doesn't have a clue as to what conservatives really think or believe. Because she's as dumb as a stick of gum and doesn't actually listen to them.

exiledonmainstreet, green-eyed devil said...

Again, Inga, if conservatives are so scary and dangerous and violent, why do you live in Walker-sha County, one of the reddest counties in Wisconsin? Why haven't you moved to the East Side of Milwaukee or Madison?

Because you know damn well conservatives - even "Trumpists" - are not scary and dangerous and violent. If we were, you wouldn't be here posting ever more stupidity on Althouse.

You're a liar and phony. And you are not an American.

Your biological daughter was blessed to have been adopted by normal parents.

She's a conservative who voted for Trump, so yes, I am glad she was raised by good people. I shudder to think of what might have happened if she was raised by an amoral bitch like you. She might have turned out as stupid as your daughters.

And you haven't answered this question, dumbo:

"Again, Inga, if conservatives are so scary and dangerous and violent, why do you live in Walker-sha County, one of the reddest counties in Wisconsin? Why haven't you moved to the East Side of Milwaukee or Madison?"

You're surrounded by Trumpists with guns and yet you're not afraid.

Because you are a liar and phony.

Those kings generally had a few hundred wives and with the exception of a favored few those wives had less rights than Sally Hemmings.

As Scott Adams is wont to do, he brings up that the argument for reparations is using the wrong metric.

To determine reparations owed, the measure should be: The typical life of a slave brought from Africa versus the life they would have had, had they remained in Africa.

With that as the measure, I'm pretty sure Oprah owes me money.

So, Althouse, are you still trying to decide how to vote in November?

Or are you preparing a Dem vote rationalization along the lines of, if Biden wins, Dems will "take responsibility" and the destruction of the culture will abate?

I think Madame La Professeur is safely in the Dem corner. Beyond that, what will happen in 20 years, when the anarchists look back to realize they have scraped history of all of the leading (white) figures of the various eras? To say nothing of the beyond-genuflection sanctimony of liberal white guilt to rid the world of...free speech?

We are moving from The Old Republic to The Empire.

Poor Andrew Sullivan thinks the NYT taught blacks, instead of the other way around. It never ends with him.

And I know - whites scream the "1619" project got things wrong, so loudly, they can't hear what it got right - and that's intentional, too.

I remember when Andrew was "unsurprised" Obama was a Leo.

That's your champion journalist, and his supporters, getting the American story correct.
