(I don't know why the emoji turned the other way when all I did was copy and paste. I don't mean to misquote!)

Because the emoji is not transmitted as a picture. It is transmitted as an numeric code and displayed however your software displays it. Same is true for the letters in the text of the caption.
But I copied what I copied. Why did it change orientation? That doesn't happen with letters. Are some readers seeing different emojis than I am? It would be dangerous to communicate with emojis if you didn't know what the other person is going to see.
@Althouse, actually it does change with letters. Same letters display differently according to which font and size they are displayed in and whether the letter is italicized or bolded. Most emojis are symmetric and don’t have this problem, but some “thumbs up” emojis are displayed by some software as right hand and other displays show the same emoji as left hand.
Did you see the putting green in his back yard?
The guy icon/pictures is a picture:
https://abs-0.twimg.com/emoji/v2/svg/1f57a-1f3fb.svg
I can get to that picture directly with a tablet; when I select it, a popup says "Man dancing (light skin tone) / Open image in new tab. ..." (and it's a different image URL than the one above; same picture)
With firefox on a normal computer I can only get to the image from the twitter page.
With my tablet I see the post title as
"...will gave to do [two rectangles]"
and the guy shows up in his post's title.
When I click Comment to display this thread, the title is
"...will gave to do [four question marks in diamonds]"
to do
^^ Post above: I copied the text and guy icon from the post, saw him in the comment text area and in Preview, hit "Publish" and now he's displayed as four question marks in rectangles.
I see very different emojis on your post. Same pose, one left, one right, and also very different people - only one has a mustache!
My backyard gym has alligators to wrestle...
It's mating season...
It is transmitted as an numeric code and displayed however your software displays it.
Apparently a given code refers to different pictures, depending on your OS - Apple he faces left, Twitter he faces right, among other diffs.
Here are a bunch of versions of the dancing guy (all use the same unicode): https://emojipedia.org/man-dancing/
Altogether it sounds like emojis are "not ready for prime time".
Bad music.
We have a community gym right down the street but now closed. Glad a asked the wife for dumbbells for Xmass. Got a nice set, adjustable. Been using them regularly (so far). Got to try and keep in shape. All the "hanging around the house" can quickly make one soft. At any age, the stronger your body, the better at fighting illness. Now it looks like I was ahead of the curve...
So is Wisconsin in lockdown? Montana isn't yet and it's not clear whether u can go out in public for walks. Few other people are doing it.
I have a gym in the basement but am so tired of it
Seriously - worried about the orientation of a quoted emoji...?
Here in Virginia we go on lockdown at midnight tonight. Need to hit the gym today. The rest of the school year is cancelled. I need to make sure I have enough bird seed for my flying feathered chow hounds. I assume we will be able to get fresh fruits and veggies while the lockdown continues. I hope.
Gyms here in Tennessee are closed until April 6th, but this is a joke end date- they won't be reopened for months is the most likely outcome. No politician is going to reverse these closures until there are zero new cases. I am considering buying an adjustable bench along with a barbell and weight set.
Yesterday, I went for five mile walk up and down the hills here on the northside of Oak Ridge. Will do that again today if rain clears out by 6 p.m. Did actual pushups for the first time in a few years- I have become too dependent on the horizontal bench, it appears- I could only do 30 at a time. I used to be able to do 200 20 years ago. It is a great exercise I need to fully reincorporate into my workout since it uses all the muscles in your back, too. So, my goal is to get back to doing at least 100 in case I am confronted by an angry Joe Biden.
Three kettlebells a surgical tubing type of universal machine that straps to the boiler room door, several foam rollers yoga mats. I go to local hiking trails, and the high school track for sprint training. Will start open water swimming next month.
Unicode explicitly does not specify the appearance of glyphs, and there would be no way for the Unicode Consortium to enforce such a specification in any case. Glyph appearance is entirely the choice of the font-maker.
So, if the maker of a font used a "☭" glyph for the code point of the "commercial at", and as a result email addresses you looked at in that font looked like "username☭example.com" instead of "username@example.com", well, that's what that font does.
I don't know why the emoji turned the other way
The internet wanted to switch him from a left-winger to a right-winger!
