"Audience members in a Washington, DC, synagogue hurled boos and heckles at journalist Bob Woodward..."

"... when he repeatedly interrupted two New York Times reporters during a discussion about their new Harvey Weinstein book Wednesday evening. Woodward was speaking to reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey at the Sixth and I synagogue about their book 'She Said' when audience members began walking out, booing and tweeting criticisms of the questions posed by Woodward.... 'Let her finish!' one audience member shouted from a balcony.... [A]nother shouted, 'All women deserve to be heard!' when Woodward asked the authors about Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s allegation against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.... 'When @mega2e explained she built trust w sources by talking abt how the harm can’t be undone but together they can build constructive power from pain, Woodward interrupted, giddily, "that was your standard line?"'.... 'Twohey and Kantor told Woodward repeatedly that they believed Weinstein’s assaults were about "power," but he didn’t seem satisfied'.... 'So it’s about power?' she said he asked. 'It’s about sex also though, isn’t it?'"

From "Bob Woodward booed, heckled during #MeToo book conversation" (NY Post).

Show me the video. I'm assuming Woodward did a fine job and the NYT reporters benefited from his keeping it lively. But maybe it was one of these mythic examples of a sexist man controlling women's speech.

Not Woke enough for 2019 DC.

I appreciate that you link to non-paywalled articles. Especially when the Left is eating its own.

So, women can't take tough questions?

Mark said...

Sounds like Kantor and Twohey packed the audience with professional protester types.

If you believe #MeToo was never really about the victims but was part of a long calculated political strategy to prevent a conservative justice from SCOTUS then Woodward's indifference to the victims or to these women makes sense.

Real women aren't afraid of tough questions.

I clicked on the NY Post (New York's Finest News Source?) story. The main complainant seemed to be a hysterical woman who tweeted a twitterstorm about the program she wanted to see as opposed to the one she was attending. Althouse is right. Let's go to the tape. I doubt Kantor and Twohy had any difficulties with the program.

"Deep Throat rejected by Deep State?"

Almost, but not quite. Need Woodward to show up at a Comey book signing.

First thought: Why is this taking place in a synagogue? I guess Judaism really does differ from Christianity. On second thought, the Episcopalians would do this too.

BTW, if you read this women's twitter feed, you can see she's a loon. I'd love to see the video, but I'm skeptical of the complaint. Too many liberal women cry wolf or more accurately try to play victim in order to control everyone. They behave obnoxiously and if you push back, they claim you're "mansplaining" or "Controlling their speech". They're equal, but they're scared little girls too, and we must be careful not hurt their feelie-weelies.

I like Woodward a lot more than I like Bernstein, but Woodward can come across as a pompous ass.

NY Post is obviously a trashier paper than WaPo and the NYT. I wouldn't be able to write the blog they way I want if I had to stick only to the free stuff. You can decide for yourself if you want to pay for access to the more substantial places. I blog based on what I read and let the chips fall where they may. Don't expect me to bend my practice to help the nonsubscribers. I can't be distracted by that. Sorry. I mean, don't express appreciation as if I made an effort in that direction, because I'm not going to lean into that and don't want to hear about it.

Why hurl boos and heckles, instead of just booing and heckling? It separates the behavior from the person doing it.

No actual transcript of the Woodward panel discussion?

I'm sticking with Adam Schiff's interpretation, whatever that is.

I have my ways, my paths. It's instinctive and much of it is done very quickly. I recognize what is bloggable almost instantly. I'm not aware of the time, really. It feels like no time. I don't want to read anything I'm not going to blog and I have a feeling for where I can find bloggable things. NY Post sometimes works a little, but is usually very low value.

You've got to be kidding.

The past 60 years have been a non-stop feminist bitch-a-thon.

Women, shut up. I've was long ago fed up with your decades of bitching.

Our fathers were right. The stereotype of women is right on the money. Bitching is endless and eternal.

Shut up, ladies, and give us a much needed break from your infernal bitching.

Here's your video.

Ninety minutes of BS. The little black leather skirt on Twohey is the best part. Afterwards, Woodward head-butted Kantor backstage.

Lefty women avoid having to answer tough questions with slogans that reveal their affinity for female privilege. "Believe all women" is an awful statement to make, especially for those who claim to be concerned about US style civil rights and real justice.

How many black men have been jailed and/or killed due to believing women's accusations sans physical evidence, because "Women don't lie about rape/sexual assault" was the default and the privilege of female virtue was operative in society? The "survivors" Social Justice activist crowd simply want to inflict a bigoted form retribution on men as a class and their language reveals their desires.

I saw the "feeling" afterwards, but this still makes no sense rationally- you can't possibly know until you read more widely, which the quote above indicates you don't do. I think depending almost completely on WaPo or the NYTimes is kind of silly, even though you do have the good sense to see through most of the bullshit.

And, I will just point out, the NYPost is still a New York paper published for New York readers. I wouldn't consider it much of a broadening of perspective.

Not sure why you would assume Woodward did a fine job--he generally doesn't.

As to his interrupting the women: The women should pull themselves together and tell him to shut up. Why can't they defend themselves, for Pete's sake?

Also--it's no worse to interrupt a woman than to interrupt a man. Self-involved interviewers do it all the time to individuals of various sexes.

True, the harm to Kavanaugh and his family can't be undone, but if he has any balls he'll bring down the hammer on some favorite prog causes, just to build constructive power from pain.

I get this, sorta, but which paper in New York City has been covering Maspeth High School disaster lately? The Post broke the story and has been running with it. https://nypost.com/2019/09/14/maspeth-high-schools-secret-to-high-pass-rates-is-cheating-teachers/

The NYT has yet to take an interest.

Which of these published a phony story about a supposed affair of a major party candidate on its front page shortly before an election?

The New York Post's editiorial page editor is Sohrab Ahmari, late of the WSJ and elsewhere; new Catholic. Anyway, I never used to pay any attention because the Times is sufficiently trashy so far as most of my needs for trash go, but since SA has been doing the op-ed page at the Post, I've been glancing at it; Zito, Avni, Buckley, Schaefer Riley, Michael Goodwin, Rich Lowry and Jonah Goldberg are there, George Will who sometimes rises to the occasion.

Dear Ann,

You are overly controlling. It's ludicrous, unattractive, and ineffective because you don't actually have control. You can assert force and silence people but I'm curious to know how you imagine that you can actually tell people to stop appreciating you and have that work out as you fancy.

Pro tip: Learn to ignore people saying stuff that you don't like. I doubt it's going to destroy the blog to let somebody thank you.

Meanwhile, more importantly,

Busted! Fire for effect, Bob! Show the world how this media NPC is a robot whore who has discovered just another way to push people's buttons to manipulate them. Standard line, forsooth!

The funny thing is that Althouse likes trash. She likes what is bad. You can see this throughout her work. But as for this pretense of preferring the highbrow, I suggest this acronym:

AAAPPP (A3P3)

Ann Althouse Addictively Prefers Pretty Poison

AAPP for short:
Ann Althouse Prefers Poison
