I know I'm supposed to be nice to the trolls, but the thing that stands out to me most is their willingness to let others do their thinking for them. "Bully", "Racist", "Corrupt". I watched the live coverage of the demonstrations in Ferguson and Baltimore. With the exception of that one guy who tried to axe a fire hose, the media were pretty much complimentary of the protesters and their anxious search for justice. They were in some ways even more saintly than the Occupy Wall Street crowd, and that gang, with the exception of a few rapists, were the nicest people on God's green earth. Not like those people at the Trump rally. Someone in the media said that his blood ran cold when they started that chant. My God, they chanted. That's right up there with smirking when it comes to offenses against humanity and all that's decent. Thank heavens we have the media to tell us about the dark underside of Trump rallies, and the idealism that underlies people who will go to the death to defend Omar's right to tell Trump voters to shut up.

It took me three tries, but I got through the new Mary Poppins movie that's playing on Netflix. It's almost okay. You can see that they spent a lot of money on sets and animation and special effects. It doesn't quite click, but the important thing is that they tried....The fact that it's such a near miss is even more irritating than if it were a total disaster.

It's amazing that they were able to make it without a trace of irony. I thought Blunt was good, and her You Can't Judge a Book by the Cover number was a riot. And finally to enter the Spring festival and find 92 year old Disney veteran Angela Lansbury there to sing the coda.. Movie magic.
I'm not really invested in Mary Poppins the way I was in Daenerys. I felt kind of betrayed the way Daenerys turned out to be a genocidal maniac in the last show. Nothing like that happened with Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins. I like Emily Blunt, but she's no Julie Andrews. There was something wholesome and benign about Julie Andrews. Ilhan and Ahmed married in 2009, presumably to benefit in some way from a fraudulent marriage. They did not divorce until 2017.
To summarize, Ilhan appears to have entered the country fraudulently with her birth father and sister by falsely claiming to be part of the Omar family. That is when she became an ”Omar” instead of a “Said Elmi”. Two other sisters and her brother ended up in the UK under their real names (retaining the “Said Elmi”). She later apparently “married” her brother “Ahmed” when he was in the US to get him US citizenship. I put quotes around “married” because it is highly likely that the marriage, between two siblings with at least a common father (remember - Islam allows up to four wives) was void ab initio. As a note - it is probable that the marriage was never consummated, esp in view of the persistent rumors of Ahmed’s homosexuality.
Ilhan Omar/Said Elmi appears to have routinely, from an early age, committed immigration fraud, along with immigration fraud, tax fraud, bigamy, and possibly (but unlikely, I think) incest. Her immigration and naturalization may not be legally actionable as crimes, since she was apparently a minor at the time. But, if she has no close blood relationship, nor an adoption, with the Omar family, then she was not here legally a refugee. And that means that her citizenship, acquired through a special refugee program, is arguably invalid. And, if she can be deported, that would be presumably how.

Let me add that Ilhan Omar née Nur Said Elmi’s father Nur Omar né Said Elmi Mohamed likely could not have qualified for asylum as a refugee because of his close family ties with the deposed brutal despot who had been ruling Somalia until he was deposed. Proof of the relationship, or, more likely, lack thereof, with the Omars, should be simple with modern genetic testing.

I just read “The Spy Who Loved Me” and oddly, it was a ‘bodice ripper.’ It was nothing like the movie, and the title The Spy Who Shagged Me was probably more accurate. I then read why and it turns out that Fleming had disowned the book, tried to prevent it from coming out as a paperback, and forbade them to use anything but the title in the movie of the book. “Nobody Does It Better” probably was inspired by the book though, and there was a guy with metal teeth, from a prison dentist. He was tired of writing Bond books and it was experimental. The whole thing takes place in a tourist motel near Lake George, NY.
It was the first time I had seen the word “gash” used outside of feminist rants to put down men though, kind of like “vagina dentata,” another phrase you only hear from feminists. Although Fleming was trying to make the guy who said it look like scum. Anyway, its a quick read and gives you a different side of Fleming. Also, if you like romance novels ladies, you might enjoy it. Apparently it was more popular with women than with men at the time.

The problem is they're never lined up that well when you go to shoot em.
Interesting court opinion denying Jeffrey Epstein bail. The short answer is that Epstein’s bail request was denied. But how the judge got there was the interesting part. The SDNY prosecutors appear to have done a masterful case arguing for remand. Wonder what would have happened if the execrable Preet Bharara we’re still the USA there. Epstein could really be facing serious time here. With just the two changes, so far, he could easily face the rest of his natural life in prison.
Remand was ordered on two interrelated grounds. One was danger to the community, and one was flight risk. The judge cited for the first that he was charged with very serious sex offenses by grand jury indictment that may net him 45 years. There was testimony that his people had intimidated potential witnesses in the FL case, and some of his more recent victims, minors at the time, testified as to their fear of his release. Mention was made of the pile of kiddie porn (my term) found in his NYC mansion, despite being a Class III registered sex offender in NY. The assumption seems to be that the prosecutors could, and probably would, up the charges, once they had a chance to wade through all those photos and videos. 45 years may be conservative.
Flight risk was a bit more straight forward. He had an expired false passport showing that he knew how to acquire false documents. He had overseas properties, and was arrested upon return from his place in Paris. He still has his Gulfstream, and could easily, given his great wealth, rent another. His only family connection in this country is his brother, with whom he rarely communicates. He is facing a 45 year sentence, at least. As the prosecution said, a classic flight risk.
The judge also rejected Epstein’s suggested house arrest and bail. Mention was made about what he did last time under house arrest. Also noted was that Epstein had provided a one page unaudited summary of his assets, supposedly totaling about a half a billion dollars. But it was unaudited and lacked detail, so was essentially useless. Also mentioned was that he supposedly made about $10 million a year. The most interesting note, to me, was the judges comment that the prosecution had included a claim for civil forfeiture of the very properties that Epstein was offering to pledge as collateral, starting with his $77 million NYC mansion. This is important to note, since the claim was that the properties were used in the commission of his crimes, mountains of illegal kiddie porn was discovered in his NYC mansion, mere possession of which is illegal, much was probably made there, and the standard of proof is by a preponderance of the evidence, instead of beyond a reasonable doubt, as is the case for the criminal charges. If the feds continue to push this, I think that they may soon be the happy owners of one of the nicer NYC mansions. As well as two private islands in the US Virgin Islands. They may pass on his NM compound, though, since they already own plenty of NM already. My surprise was that the judge (softly) called them out for offering to pledge these properties for collateral for bail.
