According to HuffPo, Amy Klobuchar, speaking to "a crowd of more than 200" in Des Moines, Iowa, described her experience at Trump's inaugural like this:
I sat on that stage between Bernie and John McCain, and John McCain kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation. He understood it. He knew because he knew this man more than any of us did.
Recited? Seems like some sort of chant. But he was reciting
to her. If I had to bet what the somewhat less than brilliantly articulate Klobuchar meant, I'm guessing that Trump would say a line and McCain would mutter a name to Amy. Something like this:
TRUMP: We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny...
MCCAIN [muttering to Amy]: Hitler...
TRUMP: I will fight for you with every breath in my body...
MCCAIN [muttering to Amy]: Stalin...
TRUMP: There should be no fear – we are protected, and we will always be protected...
MCCAIN [muttering to Amy]: Mussolini...
TRUMP: Now arrives the hour of action...
MCCAIN [muttering to Amy]: Mao.

If this tale were possible to corroborate I might think about it for longer than it takes to mutter "bullshit."
John McCain was not available for comment.
A quick look at this photo reveals that she was not standing between Sanders and McCain, as she says above. She was to McCain's left and, at least in this photo, more than two feet from him.

The spouse & I happened to be in Boone, Iowa, today around 11 am, only to discover that there's basically nowhere to eat in Boone on Sunday morning (if you discount Mexican and Chinese, which we did). We did see a whole lot of people funneling into one place that looked promising, only to find it full of people, but nobody actually eating anything. Definitely got the sense that some sort of Event was taking or going to take place, but we wanted food, dammit.
On our way back to our car, helped a older guy out of his car and into his wheelchair; he told us he was there for a Klobuchar campaign event, which is what we escaped. He had some props and a complex plan to get noticed and ask questions; I was hoping to see something about him on the evening news.
Interesting story. In recent years, whenever I heard Senator McCain speak, I would briefly ponder his statement then mutter "Jerk".
I've noticed alot of "fake but accurate" going around lately.
BTW, didn't I read recently that Huffpo was circling the drain? Or was that Salon.
I'll take "Things That Didn't Happen" for $2000, Alex.
When I think of McCain and his decisions at the end of his life, I think brain cancer. Might that have affected his judgement?
Remember when lefties thought that McCain calling his wife the c-word was important and newsworthy?
There's no doubt McCain hated Trump, and was involved in the whole Steele Dossier and attempt to destroy Trump with it. That he would've muttered the names of dictators -like a crazy old fool - wouldn't surprise me in the least.
To McCain, everyone who disagreed with him was evil or stupid. And he loved wars and "paying any price, bearing any burden" to help the foreign countries he liked and hurt the ones he disliked. Further, McCain wasn't really a Republican - more like a member of the DC Establishment. An elitist. My, it must have galled to him, to have Trump win.
Of course, being the liar he was, he kept his hatred well hidden prior to November 2016. After all, he had to fool the boobs into electing him - and needed Trump's endorsement.
And good Ol' McCain. Even from the grave he's being a "maverick" and helping the Democrats!
@Jersey
Salon, and althouse had some chick cited in a recent post who helped in its demise
Trump took down McCain's war hero act.
I voted for McCain (lesser evil), but I never much liked him. I lived in Washington and saw first hand how he abused his power and influence. I don’t disbelieve that he said (muttered) these things but whether he did or he didn’t I don’t see why that should affect ANYBODY’S 2020 vote.
So Klobuchar is using the comments of McCain to suggest that Trump is Hitler.
Sounds good. That should work.
Sounds like yet another Democrat made-up “fact.”
Remember after a semi-hard question from Matt Lauer, Hillary warned her staff to fix it because a Trump win means we will all hang. Her "we" included John McCain who, along with Hillary, was up to his eyeballs in foreign cash bribes. And he was right. Hillary's turn comes soon.
McCain was a jerk and hated the voters that he considered "Crazies," remember ?
That story is about as believable as this one.
Time Magazine columnist Ian Bremmer on Sunday tweeted a quote from President Donald Trump about North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un that quickly went viral — but it wasn’t real.
“President Trump in Tokyo: ‘Kim Jong Un is smarter and would make a better President than Sleepy Joe Biden.'” Bremmer wrote on Twitter.
While Trump did praise the North Korean dictator’s insult of former Vice President Joe Biden, the president never said what Bremmer quoted him saying — because Bremmer made it up.
Bremmer left the false post up for several hours before conceding he made up the quote and deleting the tweet, which he defended as “plausible.”
She didn't get much mileage out of her Fox town hall.
Might as well put words in the mouth of a dead man.
That poor crazy girl ain't going nowhere.
Bernie didn't mention this because he thought McCain was unduly complimenting Trump.
TRUMP: I will fight for you with every breath in my body...
MCCAIN [muttering to Amy]: Every Democratic candidate ever...
Lions and tigers and bears, Oh My!
“He knew because he knew this man more than any of us did. ”
Really? When did McCain get to know him so well?
I grew up in New York. We were used to seeing Trump out and about, so to speak. He was on Page 6 now and again, on the tv talk shows, and sometimes in the news. You remember how often Trump would show up on Letterman? Did everyone panic or get offended watching Letterman because Trump looked like a Hitler or a Stalin? Trump organization is a real business with real transactions. Trump’s organization did their construction environmental law work at the Wall Street firm at which my Mom used to work. I never considered Trump anything but another big talking ambitious, aggressive New York real-estate competitor - just another boy from queens trying to make it in Manhattan. So please inform us. Show us the Hitler and Stalin governing comparisons and traits? Where are the invasions and gas chambers and gulags?
I think what really bugs Trump’s opponents the most is that he is so much better at their B.S. game than they are. He runs circles around them and they don’t like it. As I’ve said before, Christ warned us about wolves in sheep’s clothing. Christ never warned us about wolves in wolves’ clothing. Maybe He felt that we’d be able to figure that one out on our own.
McCain was dead meat the day DJT took command. Among the US Navy, Senator John McCain had already started being called "He who is not to be named." They did that in order to save the honor of the McCain name for his Father and his super-hero Grandfather.
"“He knew because he knew this man more than any of us did." Really? When did McCain get to know him so well?"
I wondered about that too. My theory is that she meant to attribute a 6th sense to McCain. Through his wartime experience, he acquired a heightened sense that made him an early detector of dictators. He was our dictator detector, and we heeded him not, and now he is gone.
Didn’t McCain have a brain tumor at the time?
I almost drove over to that event. Amy’s birthday.
it was "Wacko-Birds, Dr. K.
"Through his wartime experience, he acquired a heightened sense that made him an early detector of dictators. He was our dictator detector, and we heeded him not, and now he is gone."
Ha. McCain was like a malfunctioning smoke detector, that went off constantly, whether there was smoke or not.
like when McCain did his larry miller impression with qaddafi, in 2007-8, he then flipped in 2010-2011, hiring the fraudulent miss o'bagy, from the Libyan task force to his staff,
Did McCain know Trump? Of course he didn't. Trump opposed Bad trade deals and the Iraq war. McCain was 100% in favor of both. Trump is a businessman who is interested in finance, the Budget, taxes, etc. McCain has ZERO interest in taxes, the budget, or finance. The two men couldn't have been more different.
traditionalgay: you realize that flying over Hanoi was the most dangerous duty US aviators have ever faced. Makes 12 O'Clock High look like a series of milk runs.
Hitler killed millions of his political enemies and sent millions more to concentration camps. Stalin killed millions of his political enemies and sent millions more to concentration camps. Mao killed millions of his political enemies and sent millions more to concentration camps. Mussolini was a minor leaguer by comparison and doesn't really belong in the same conversation with the other three, but his much smaller body count is probably due to a lack of opportunity rather than insufficient bloodthirstiness.
What is Trump's body count? How many has he sent to the concentration camps in Alaska and Montana? How many Democrat politicians and lying MSM apparatchiks have been sent to the American gulag?
Nobody likes a blue falcon, John.
maybe Amy Klovenhoov should host a seance instead of a 'Townhall' meeting

Bullshit.
THEOLDMAN
Why didn't you wait until Memorial Day, you jackass, to impugn the sacrifices of the American bomber pilots and crews during WW2? That would be more your style, I suppose.
RC is right, Trump is businessman, not a loyal American Statesman. That's why he wants to bypass congress to sell the perpetrators of 911 $Billions of weapons. All as payback for bailing out 666 5th Ave, the slandering of Jeff Bezos and keeping silent on Trump City in the Golan Heights and Trump recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
McCain is now dead.
Sad.
What did Bernie recite? Fast food takeout?
Trump: "Chief Justice Roberts,"
Sanders: "Pizza"
Trump: "President Carter,"
Sanders: "Cheeseburger"
Trump: "President Clinton,"
Sanders: "Tacos"
Trump: "President Bush,"
Sanders: "Popcorn"
Oldman cranky, needs new diaper.
Howard, now defend McCain for the Forrestal fire.
If trump wins big in 2020, he could become a bit hard to handle, a bit of a dictator even. "Imperial presidency" and all that.
It happens.
That's why he wants to bypass congress to sell the perpetrators of 911 $Billions of weapons.
As opposed to giving the Iranians, who have been at war with us since 1979, billions on pallets of cash to make it easier to hand out to Hamas.
Got it.
I doubt they were targeting Hanoi, the bombing list put it off limits until 1972,
just to make up for the 150 billion dollar gift Obama gave iran, with the unfrozen funds, prince salman is executing the likes of qarni, al hawali and odah who not only recruited the hijackers, but whose fatwas targeted coalition forces, as well as going after member of the golden chain like the alamoudi and bin Mahfouz clans,
It's a good idea to quote dead people who will never contradict your stories. You can make up anything. On the other hand, the same dead person is not there to confirm your stories. I guess that part doesn't matter if you are dealing with credulous airheads, like the press.
I'm interested in the names of the 14 world leaders, all presumably living, who told Joe Biden about their fears.
McCain called the Tea Party "crazies."
"Whacko Birds" was more recent.
Howard should read, "When Thunder Rolled, a story of the real tough guys who went in to take out the SAMs and AAA so McCain could survive,.
There are also some stories about McCain's shoot down.
Am I to think...
No. Thinking is not what they want you to do.
"in the business of ideology and propaganda...believing is all that really matters."
Well if true, then McCain was a very petty little man.. but we knew that.
Amy Klobuchar, speaking to "a crowd of more than 200" in Des Moines, Iowa,
200 people, and she's channeling some dead guy? Miss Cleo move over!!
Love me some Miss Cleo!
She even defrauded people in right here in Seattle!!. Who would have guessed you could find fools in Seattle??
Klobuchar - that's @althouse's fave rave in the dem field, right?
Amy Alcoholic is someone to listen to? And for McStain, it could have been the cancer speaking as he muttered.
I guess McCain really is dead. So far, only two references to his being a "war hero" and one reference was sarcastic.
"All as payback for bailing out 666 5th Ave, the slandering of Jeff Bezos and keeping silent on Trump City in the Golan Heights and Trump recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital."
Oh no. Not slandering Jeff Bezos, anything but that! That's beyond the pale.
@Doug
not sure these days. Could be Pete Butt-Sex-Sex

Most Awesome book! Before i read it, i thought Robin Olds and his F-4 guys had it rough, but after finishing When Thunder Rolled (and the Rasimus' Palace Cobra (and THEN Old's Fighter Pilot), I changed my mind all around. The F-105 pilots had it ROUGH. Between 1965 and 1968, more than 330 F-105s were lost over North Vietnam. That's out of 833 that were Ever Built.
By the end of Rasimus' 1st tour (1965) (200 missions), he gave a loss rate for the planes (and crew) that were there. They lost MORE than 100% of the airplanes assigned to his base (Korat) in SIX MONTHS . A F-105 pilot was shot down, on average every 65 missions; for every 5 that started the tour, three wouldn't finish it
HOWEVER!!!! Please compare that to the 8th Airforce in Europe in 1944. Pilots only had to complete 25 missions to complete a tour, and not many did that
Hitler, Stalin & Mao - big time, genocidal mass murders. Wrecked much of the 20th Century.
Mussolini? Nah - more of an inept loudmouth.
@26,000 8th Army Air Force crewmen were killed over Europe. Howard's 12 o'clock high "milk runs" ( I Wonder, Howard, have you ever even seen the movie? If not, you should. Excellent movie on a number of levels)
That was more than the total number number of Marines killed in WWII (@20,000), mostly in the Pacific on Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and other places but including Marines killed on ships and elsewhere.
So how many aircrew were killed over Hanoi, Howard? Or over all of NVN?
More than the 140 or so that died in a single fire on the USS Forrestal?
I was still in the Navy in the early 70s when the POW's came home. There were mixed feelings among my fellow enlisted. Glad the POWs were coming home. OK with them being recognized and feted and so on, of course.
But the POWs were mostly officers. There was little or no recognition, ever, for the enlisted men who did the bulk of the bleeding and dying in VN. The lack of recognition still pisses me off.
Not that I deserve any, I never got further west than Chicago in my time. But there's a lot of guys from my generation who are seriously fucked up or dead because of that war. Nobody cares.
Fuck McCain. He was a shitty Naval officer, a worse Naval Aviator and an all around shitty person in non-military life.
John Henry
HOWEVER!!!! Please compare that to the 8th Airforce in Europe in 1944. Pilots only had to complete 25 missions to complete a tour, and not many did that
We saw "The Cold Blue" Thursday night. If it has another showing like "They Shall Not Grow Old" did, I highly recommend it.
28,000 men killed in the 8th AF. Over at Chicagoboyz we have had some discussions about whether the bomber mafia chose to ignore long range fighter escort and to misuse it when finally approved. They were committed to the idea that the B 17 could defend itself in tight formation but the concept did not work. the 25 mission limit was changed by late 1943 to 35. My cousin flew 50 missions but out of north Africa. The losses, except for Ploești, were not as severe.
The least believable detail in the story is that 200 people showed up to see Klobuchar. Pics or it didn't happen.
A good friend of mine flew almost 500 mission in Vietnam although they were almost all air to ground for Marines.
Then he was group commander in Gulf War I and flew 60 missions in spite of the wing CO disapproval of senior guys flying into combat.
It cost him his star but the wing CO was layer cashiered for flying his girlfriend around in a Marine Corps plane.
Michael,
I am really wanting to see "The Cold Blue" but I suspect I will have to wait til it comes to Amazon Prime. Or, if it comes to Netflix before May 30.
There is a really good documentary on The Memphis Belle produced by the War Department in 1940. Available on YouTube https://youtu.be/G28ys4TEpao
(My Netflix expires then. The same day they announced how many millions they would pay Obama, they sent me an email saying that the fee would go up by about 25%. Fuck 'em. Not paying extra so Obama can get rich so I cancelled)
John Henry
I saw "The Cold Blue" on Thursday night. Most of it was colorized and rehabbed film footage (15,000 feet of it) that Director William Wyler shot while making "The Memphis Belle". It is a good movie along the lines of "They Shall Not Grow Old"--which I also saw.
It's sobering to realize that more 8th Air Force men--officers and enlisted--died in WW II than USMC men in the Pacific. There weren't many milk runs to be had over Europe. The RAF had it worse. Only the German submarine service had a higher percentage of deaths of the men who served.
I'll give McCain props for his service as a carrier pilot. Carrier aviation --as is all military aviation--is inherently dangerous, even in peace time. The Air Force essentially wrote off its F-105 Thunderchief inventory over North Viet Nam. The US Navy bought something like 1,150 F8 Crusaders. Something over 1,000 of those Crusaders crashed, got shot down, or were broken in landing accidents coming on board carriers. The unlucky ones crashed into the sea after a botched landing.
That's one reason why I get a little ticked when I hear people denigrate George W. Bush's service as an F-106 pilot. Century series fighters can, and will, and want to kill their pilot.
The Cold Blue is showing on HBO on June 6. Mark your calendars!
"Mussolini? Nah - more of an inept loudmouth."
Yeah. His big mistake was not staying neutral in WW2, like Franco. Otherwise, he would have died in 1975, and been forgotten.
Recited? Seems like some sort of chant.
"Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day...
Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day..."
What comes next in this sequence?
Q: Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Mao, ??
A: Putin
A: "Oh My!!"

As usual beta male Howard has no idea what he's talking about.
Why wasn't McCain with Sarah Palin at the Inaugural? How rude of him.
If true I repent my support for McCain in 2008.
Obama is in progress to become the Nixon of liberals' dreams.
Trump = Mao minus 30 million dead.
Klobuchar clinging to the corpse of McCain's temporary status of exalted into the democrat party Valhalla in hopes that the worm-eaten memory of the turncoat Republican will keep her presidential pipe dream afloat. Just wait until we get the rest of the McCain/Clinton-collusion story. McCain's rotten corpse will drag dumb cunt klobuchar to the fucking bottom of the swamp.
McCain was a notorious piece of shit and a terrible pilot who crashed 4? planes.
"We saw "The Cold Blue" Thursday night. If it has another showing like "They Shall Not Grow Old" did, I highly recommend it."
Excellent documentary and the restoration of the footage into 4K is awesome. Doc I believe it will be shown again on HBO in June.
Before the 8th had fighter escorts the number of missions for the tour of duty was 25 missions with a 25% probability of surviving the tour. The fear level of flying in formation without hitting any friendlies while locked in like a railroad car on rails during the bomb run must of have been off the richter scale.
Klobuchar had 200 in Iowa at a rally? How many did Trump get out in a similar rally in 2015 after he announced? I suspect a lot more than that in the sticks.
I read the red stuff, and the first chapter about test pilot training at pax river.
@Known Unknown, only three, counting the one he lost over Vietnam. He carelessly flew into some power lines during his early flying days but landed the aircraft safely. He was also in an A-4 Skyhawk on the deck of the Forrestal when munitions on a different plane being hot-refueled on the fantail of the carrier were accidentally triggered and McCain's Skyhawk and others near his plane were set afire, but there is no way to attribute the loss of that aircraft to any issues regarding his flying skills.

Yeah. His big mistake was not staying neutral in WW2, like Franco. Otherwise, he would have died in 1975, and been forgotten.
If Mussolini had never met Hitler, he would have died in bed with his reputation still good.
You know, of you wander around Italy, there are still maps of his "New Roman Empire."

The Cold Blue is made of outtake of the Willie Wyler film.
Wyler shot a lot of footage from the open bomb bay of a B 25 and he was deaf the rest of his life as a result.
The Air Force essentially wrote off its F-105 Thunderchief inventory over North Viet Nam.
It was not designed for the missions it flew. It was a nuclear bomber with a large bomb bay.
@Skeptical Voter, point of information. Dubya flew the subsonic F-102s in the Texas ANG. However, this article confirms that the F-102 was a notoriously dangerous aircraft to fly. A number of F-102s were used in ground support roles in Vietnam, and fifteen were lost, seven to accidents, four to mortar attacks while on the ground, three to ground fire, and one proving that the F-102 could not live in the same sky as a MiG.
Forget it, Jake; it's the PuffHo.
Big Mike
1. It was reported in the press at the time that an Admiral's son during flight training had over shot a runway and landed in the Gulf. Said Admiral's son had reported a malfunction as the cause of the wet landing. After the plane was retrieved and inspected, there was no sign of malfunction. At the time it was assumed the Admiral's son was John McCain.
2. John McCain was hot dogging, flying well below require altitude and hit power lines in Spain.
3. John McCain flew a jet to the Army Navy game, he landed it in the Atlantic.
4. The accident on the carrier was not his fault.
5. Being shot down was not McCain's fault.
The truth is that had McCain not been the son and grandson of famous Admirals he would have been washed out of ever getting near a fighter jet.
Through his wartime experience, he acquired a heightened sense that made him an early detector of dictators.
That's ridiculous. You might as well argue that the prisoners at Gitmo acquired a sense of Bush's tells at the poker table.
A good friend of mine flew almost 500 mission in Vietnam although they were almost all air to ground for Marines.
Remind him he is a Saint. :)
Howard: That's why he wants to bypass congress to sell the perpetrators of 911 $Billions of weapons.
Now do Lend Lease for the British Empire.
Gods, you're stupid.
Please step away from the Foreign Policy.
1941 Howard: "That traitor Roosevelt is selling TANKS to the people that burned the White House to the ground!"
Klobuchar beclowned herself.
And she is also investigating Russian interference in the election.
The point is she thinks half the country is Hitler. That should disqualify her, if you have any sense of decency.
For how long do we have to tolerate this crap? The only president of the modern era to actually roll back the powers of the president is a dictator?
Klobacher was supposed to be a more tolerant Democrat, but she’s just a more tired and boring one.
It is demonstrably true that PDJT is not a dictator, as the term is commonly understood, and nothing like that list of those muttered by McCain at the inauguration. Furthermore, being a dictator, like those mentioned, isn't likely, maybe impossible, in our system of government.
What positive thing does Klobuchar get from telling this story? McCain looks like a cranky, off his meds, lunatic, and she sounds like a severe TDS sufferer. Freaking weird.
These people are crazy. And by 'these people', I mean today's Democrats.
Maybe it was his tumor acting up
Klobacher was supposed to be a more tolerable Democrat, but she’s just a more tired and boring one.
FIFM (fixed it for me)
Were his hands moving in his pockets, Amy?
2 words you'll never hear together: President. Klobuchar.
Also, since McCain is no longer around to verify, he once told me that Amy wore granny panties and smelled of cat urine.
It was that bluntness that we all used to admire, remember?
Jesus. the Forrestal. So you were there?
McCain had no business being in politics, probably shoulda ended up in
Prison for corruption and he wasn’t the best pilot, but that Forrestal bullshit is just that, bullshit.
Thank you Bigmike and macmaconnell
You know who you never (To my knowledge, I’m sure there’s somebody somewhere) spread that crap about the Forrestal? Navy guys who have seen the entire Forrestal film wHole IN TRAINING, training that is all about shipboard firefighting which is only one of the most dangerous things in the world (Been there done that personally). We don’t, and I don’t think too many of the ones I knew were big time McCain fans. I know damned well the old plane captain who was on that deck, that day knows what happened.
My Dad is 96 and was a navigator on a B-17. He was shot down over the Brenner Pass on his 22nd mission in February 1945 and spent the final months of the war as a POW. He went through several very dicey landings when the crew didn't know if they would make it. Growing up, he was rather difficult - I now realize he probably had PTSD. I remember him jumping out of his chair during particularly loud claps of thunder. He has mellowed in his old age - a year or two ago he watched the movie "Sully." He told me that he started to weep during the scene when the plane is coming down. He was weeping over experiences of 70-75 years ago. Thanks Dad and all of the guys like you who made it and who didn't make it,
YES! Amy, you nailed it. What a coup! THIS will positively VAULT you into that fabulous > 1% group...
Yes, McCain demonstrated his high IQ and knowledge of history by graduating last in his class.
The only thing worse than Klobacher telling this bullshit story are the drooling imbeciles who believe it.
Yes, statist "liberals" and Vichy Republicans bow to no one in their loathing of tyranny!
