"... undercutting the Mexican government’s promises to defend migrants and support their search for a better life. The Mexican authorities are blocking groups of migrants at border towns, refusing to allow them onto international bridges to apply for asylum in the United States, intercepting unaccompanied minors before they can reach American soil, and helping to manage lists of asylum seekers on behalf of the American authorities to limit the number of people crossing the border. Breaking with decades of asylum practice, the Mexican government has also allowed the Trump administration to send more than 120 men, women and children to Tijuana while they await decisions on their asylum applications in the United States. The program could be expanded to other border crossings as soon as next week. Officials inside the administration of Mexico’s new president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, have called his stance on migrants a strategic decision not to anger President Trump.... [López Obrador] has not wanted to jeopardize other aspects of the deeply interconnected relationship between the two countries, ranging from elaborate regional trading arrangements to information sharing on border security, transnational crime and terrorism...."
From "Mexico Is Carrying Out Trump’s Agenda Along Much of the Border" (NYT).
The tone of this article is negative toward Trump (as I expect from the NYT), but the most-up-voted comment is: "This is excellent news. Over 90 percent of asylum claims at the Southern border are rejected. Meanwhile, the American taxpayer is forced to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to process these (illegitimate) claims: housing, courts, extra border agents, judges, medical care, food, etc. In addition to the cost, the chaos at the border creates massive political division in the country. From now on, claims should be processed at the American embassy in the claimants home country."

Who is paying for this?
(In before you know who.)
Glad to hear it!
Of course it is the NYT, Michael Cohen's chief competitor in truthyness.
Those Mexican officials are obviously racist. And immoral.
The biggest problems on our southern border are self-inflicted by allowing the progressives to practice lawfare against our own government, so having the Mexican government intercepting and heading off the alien hordes before they reach the border should be much appreciated.
I agree with the up-voted comment and I've been telling everybody that this is Trump's biggest success at the border yet. The entire touch one foot and claim asylum scam was the worst Catch-22 that Democrats and the judiciary had imposed on the border, causing the crisis, drawing the South Americans like ants to a picnic. And yes 80-90% would be rejected but by then the Democrats evil scheme was effective because who actually shows up for a hearing to learn they can't stay? No one!
But now, for the first time, we have Mexican cooperation, keeping those potential asylum seekers out until they can be screened. And if we aren't overwhelmed, because housing in Mexico allows us to meter crossings, then we can reject the ones at the border and there's no deportation or hunting down needed. If they pass the test they get in.
It's great and I can't believe it hasn't got more press.

So it sounds like some of the NYT readers are wising up?
Wouldn't it be great if the President of the United States could articulate his own case on immigration policy as well as the most upvoted commenter at NYTimes.com?
Great news for those who don't want children separated from their parents. I can hear the cheers now.
"Mexican officials are carrying out the Trump administration’s immigration agenda across broad stretches of the border..."
Ya mean the Mexicans are gonna pay for that wall? I sure hope so lease we close the border or tax illegals money transfers. Can do that by requiring their SSN or visa number in order to send money. Then cross check. If it's not right, confiscate the money to pay for the wall! Vola... illegals money pays for the wall!
Cue commentary from the clueless left that this doesn't count as "Mexico paying for it..." because said payment is denominated in Pesos, not dollars in 3...2...1...
Does anyone think the Mexicans are so fucking stupid that they don't understand what sort of social chaos would be unleashed on them, teetering on the edge as they presently are, if tens or hundreds of thousands of Central Americans decide to decamp from their homes & make the dash for the American border? Not just able-bodied young men & women, but families with little children? The Mexicans have enough trouble taking care of their own. To now add a constant humanitarian disaster that involves Central American children dying on the streets of Mexico, how can the Mexicans not push back?
God help the entire Americas if Venezuela really goes to hell.
Wouldn't it be great if Chuck stuck his tongue in a 660-v light socket?
To (somewhat) echo YoungHegelian: Mexicans and the Mexican government aren't exactly thrilled with all the illegal immigrants (and they are "illegal immigrants" even within Mexico) trudging across their country to sneak into the US. They could turn a blind eye to it until we started to hold firm at our border.
So now they have an incentive to help curb the flow. Win-win.
Cue commentary from the clueless left that this doesn't count as "Mexico paying for it..." because said payment is denominated in Pesos, not dollars in 3...2...1...
Heh, indeed.
Darrell - Nope better to stick a screw driver into a powered shore power breaker - 450 volt, 3 phase, 900 AMP. It makes a helluva spark. Melts the screw driver as well.
If you live, you instantly earn the nickname 'sparky'...
Baby steps. Emigration reform to curb the collateral damage from immigration reform, refugee crises, and other anti-native policies, at both ends of the bridge and throughout, and the hidden sacrifices under the planned parenthood protocol or wicked solution.
Mexico has a compelling interest, a matter of viability, to pursue emigration reform, a good neighbor policy, and unplanned parenthood.
The Mexicans figure helping the Norte Americanos is better than them putting the squeeze on money transfers...
Lolol NOT TIRED OF WINNING YET!

Whatever happened to the rule whereby an asylum seeker has to accept asylum in the first country reached?
That’s what I thought, too, the squeeze on money transfers.
Mexico has 132 Million people.
So, a small percentage of Mexicans want to come to the USA and become citizens. Great! Wait in line.
And, a small % of Mexicans want to earn some $$ in the USA at menial jobs -- often seasonal -- and send the $$ back to their families in Mexico. Not great, but maybe we can make it work.
And, a small % of Mexicans are criminals or drug runners or Coyotes or gang leaders, who just wanna jump the border and do their thing up here.
For decades, we handled this situation fairly well. It wasn't until about 20 years ago when the Democrat Party figured out they could use illegals to inflate the voters rolls in California to win more elected offices that it started to dominate politics.
To Trump's credit, he's trying to reign this in.
Ha ha ha.
DJT says there's an emergency at the border = NYT says DJT solved the border problem = no emergency.
Does DJT spread this info via tweet?
Probably will: reading this thread makes it's obvious that a lot of cons don't think past one step.
Never forget, reporters are dumb rich kids who couldn't get into law school.
Imagine successful policies.
Imagine those policies happening.
Then imagine an online pretend conservative complaining about messaging.
That is the sort of person nobody can like.
What a miserable human being that would be.
The Mexican officials doing this are delaying the resettlement of those migrants into the USA. As soon as possible, those migrants need to be provided housing in the USA and their children need to be enrolled in US schools.
Most importantly, the clock needs to start running on the waiting period for them to obtain US citizenship and then to begin voting for Democrats in US elections.
The Mexican officials are delaying the housing, the school enrollments, the citizenship and the voting in the USA.
These delays would not be happening if Hillary Clinton were the US President.
Oh look, adSs decided to pretend that it is not Trump's policies (including the emergency declaration Congress gave him the power to make*) that are making the country safer and more secure. Imagine what could be done without recalcitrant ass holes like Pelosi, AOC, adSs, and that other fellow who is a shit stain.
*As a conservative, I have been arguing the legislature has sacrificed its power for political expediency and should reclaim its power by limiting the administrative state. If Trump can accomplish that feat, he could ride into the sunset like Shane, but without the bullet wound.
"From now on, claims should be processed at the American embassy in the claimants home country."
From now on! Ah!
Enforcing the actual law, firmly and consistently and for the benefit of the actual American people: what a concept.

The Mexicans are preventing those migrants from being captured by the USA's ICE officials, who are just like KKK members.
Of course, Democrats do not advocate open borders. That must be said.
Is there some number of immigrants that Democrats consider too much? What is that number? Does anyone who has crossed the border illegally and not committed a violent felony deserve to be deported? If asylum seekers are fleeing from criminals and rapists in their native countries, what are the chances that there are criminals and rapists in their midst?.........Questions that will not be addressed during the upcoming Democratic debates.
The Mexican government is doing this because it helps solve their problem on their own southern border. Mexico doesn't want other central and south Americans crossing their country just to reach the US, and they are already obligated to not make it a cakewalk across the US border. If Mexico didn't do this, there would likely be 10,000s a month crossing into Mexico to reach the US.
on a similar note,

I'm not really anti-immigrant. I live in NYC where the immigrants are, by and large, better people than the native born who are mostly loathsome scumbags. That said, I don't think everybody in the world who wants to come here has a right to come here...... There is far more bigotry directed against people who want to limit immigration than has ever been directed at immigrants. MAGA hats need not apply. Dogs and MAGA hat wearers not welcome in this establishment.
The Mexican government has stopped the "invasion". Building a wall now would be a waste of billions. This is a victory for trump! If you ask me, he's earned his military parade.
Huh. Think of the poor, poor female illegal alien, trapped by those leftists who want her to come here. She has a 1 in three chance of being raped, which is fact. Once she gets here, the left wants to send her to college, where 1 in five women are raped according to the left.
She's gotta watch out for MAGA hat people who want to douse her with bleach or just gun down "Brownies" at whim (again according to leftists). She's going to have to wear a robe as it is literally "The Handmaids Tale" here.
So with all of this horror, why haven't all the leftist women left yet?

There is no group more pathetic and useless than the cuck wing of the Democrat Party.
You are only good for mockery.
Wow, you guys are a tough crowd! I was just going to say, "Wouldn't it be nice if Chuck left when he was asked to?"
jack,
I understand that you believe the Democrats will simply reverse the policies of President Trump. And everybody knows a wall is harder to reverse, dumbass Beto O'Routke notwithstanding. So we are going to pass on your offer to presentlybe tired of winning. We are going to have a few more wins with a few hundred more miles of wall. Thanks for asking.
BTW, the one campaign promise Trump has not yet fulfilled is that I would grow tired of winning. I believe Trump has failed in that regard.
Trump has articulated his case on immigration pretty well. Based largely on the case he made on immigration, Trump managed to persuade millions of Republicans to make him their presidential nominee, and millions of Americans to make him President.
William,
"Is there some number of immigrants that Democrats consider too much?"
Weren't you listening?
"No borders, no wall
No USA at all!"
Wouldn't it be great if the President of the United States could articulate his own case on immigration policy as well as the most upvoted commenter at NYTimes.com?

Wouldn't it be great if supposed LLR's like you could support the President and give him props for what he's actually achieved without pissing and moaning about his tone and/or lack of articulation?
adSs: "Probably will: reading this thread makes it's obvious that a lot of cons don't think past one step."
Most conservatives (excluding Chuck, naturally) are able to look far enough ahead to know that once you begin to use Kurt Eichenwald or the VOX juice-boxers as your go-to sources its all over.
So, you know, perhaps you and Fake Conservative Chuck could take your tentacle porn on over to where it will be appreciated: Far Left billionaire funded The Bulwark and/or whatever laughable site losers Steve Hays and Jonah Goldberg are cranking up for their lefty billionaire boss.
Gee, I guess the Mexican government IS paying for the Wall.
or decades, we handled this situation fairly well. It wasn't until about 20 years ago when the Democrat Party figured out they could use illegals to inflate the voters rolls in California to win more elected offices that it started to dominate politics.
How does the census work because I would think more $$$ glow to programs.
Until 5 years ago, Mexico kept an iron curtain on their border with Guatemala, the advent of daca seems to have prompted them to open a path.
I understand that you believe the Democrats will simply reverse the policies of President Trump.
Dems have to be careful about this. the Trump immigration plan is much more popular than the Dem plan which is why Dems have obscured their preferences and let the courts lead. Once it becomes obvious this is their choice rather than a requirement it will hurt them tremendously.
There is a similar dynamic in education policy. Courts and lawyers have screwed that up on behalf of Dems also and up to now the Reps haven't been willing to simply override their choices when they get the chance.
Associate Justice Sonia Sotomajor once asserted that the Supreme Court would benefit from having a "wise Latina".
In contrast, during our drunken, weekend road trips to Tijuana during college, I was hoping to find a "hot Latina".
Yo No Soy Laslo
Trump should give democrats what they want. Tear down every immoral wall and fence along the border and funnel the limitless masses crossing the border into California where they will be welcomed by compassionate liberals (oxymoron).
There's all kinds of winning when you follow Trump. Sometimes glorious winning like election night 2016. Sometimes a long cool drink of vindication as he improves the economy as promised. Sometimes a strange muffled funereal victory as he exposes the abuses of the intelligence community leaders and the bias of the media. It's sad to see that the FBI was headed by scum and that the media are afraid to tell the truth. Better to know it but sad to see it. And another kind of victory comes when Trump loses a round, when for example, the Democrats in Congress refuse to defend our borders. As they dance about chanting "Hey, Hey, Death to the USA", we notice that behind their backs, over there, Trump has persuaded the Mexicans to defend their borders, thus effectively defending ours. Maduro, take note.
Tear down every immoral wall
Exactly. Ms. Pro-Choice, tear down the wall(s).
As discussion of the illegal alien issue almost always shows, there are flaws in our immigration laws that could be fixed more easily and less expensively than building a wall. For example, prohibit a request for asylum being made anywhere except a US embassy or consulate in the applicant's home country. If a foreigner reaches the US without US approval either as a visitor, immigrant, or a person granted asylum, or has overstayed his/her authorized period in the US, then immediate deportation should be permitted with no appeals or stays, because there would be no issue to try on an appeal. Once these changes in law have been in effect and shown to be effective, but ONLY THEN, we should develop a process for legalizing those already in the country who have shown themselves to be good residents (which doesn't mean merely that they haven't been convicted of major crimes).
This would be a good platform for candidates for Congress and Senate to run on in 2020.
The Godfather:
Are you telling me Hawaiian judge is going to sit back and let those laws pass muster?
I would bet you don't believe that.
Is there some number of immigrants that Democrats consider too much? What is that number?
It is a complex formula involving, but not limited to:
Domestic help positions in California,
Democratic votes necessary for a permanent majority, and
Cheap fruit and veggies.
Chuck,
Do you remembet what djt actually said?
Or are you basing your statement on what the media reported thay he said?
Two completely different things.
Kind of like he difference between the actual grab them by the pussy remark and what was reported.
To paraphrase: who are you going to believe, the press or your lying ears?
