"... a federal judge ruled Thursday,"
The Miami Herald Reports:
“The government aligned themselves with Epstein, working against his victims, for 11 years,’’ [said Brad Edwards, who represents Courtney Wild — Jane Doe No. 1 in the case]. “Yes, this is a huge victory, but to make his victims suffer for 11 years, this should not have happened. Instead of admitting what they did, and doing the right thing, they spent 11 years fighting these girls.’’
[Judge Kenneth A.] Marra, in a 33-page opinion, said prosecutors not only violated the Crime Victims’ Rights Act by not informing the victims, they also misled the girls into believing that the FBI’s sex trafficking case against Epstein was still ongoing — when in fact, prosecutors had secretly closed it after sealing the plea bargain from the public record.
You can read the judge's opinion at the link. He states as a fact that Epstein "sexually abused more than 30 minor girls" and "directed other persons to abuse the girls sexually."

It's a love of victims story. Where clicks come from ought to be part of every story. "This story is tailored to appeal to ..." Truth in news biz standards would clean up a lot of the soap opera women problems with public debate.
"If you're reading this you probably shouldn't vote" implied.
Now. do Bob Menendez, D-NJ
I don't understand how Acosta, simply as a human being, has not resigned his Cabinet post over this.
I don't understand how his resignation has not been publicly demanded.
I don't understand how the wall was not funded when the Republicans held both Houses.
I don't understand how McCabe could still be "pending" under investigation.
So many things.
I don't understand.
Make that Jeffery Epstein big time Dem donor and friend of Hillary Clinton’s husband.
I’m sure Hillary’s deleted emails discuss Epstein. And now that we have a real AG, I say get a warrant to search David Kendall’s work premises. He kept a copy before her server was wiped clean. He needed insurance so that he got paid.
Evidence of a crime is not subject to attorney-client privilege.
Does this count as a “smidgen of corruption” for Halo Boy?
It goes without saying that Acosta and everyone else involved in this case should be fired, disbarred and subjected to every criminal and civil action possible.
And yet another Democrat big shot (Epstein and by extension Menendez) gets a special deal while Republicans go broke defending themselves, are denied bail, and feel the full fury of the DOJ for crimes real and imagined.
Justice in America.
Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska pushed DOJ to investigate Acosta.
What do you suppose will happen to those prosecutors who broke the law?
"Does this count as a “smidgen of corruption” for Halo Boy?"
Are you referring to Obama?
The key govt decisions were made in 2007. That was the GWB administration.
Bob Mueller was director of the FBI for 11 months during the Epstein investigation. What did Mueller know and when did he know it? Another thing for the new Special Counsel to investigate.

As to your first point, that's just crazy talk! What would become of the world if government officials were prosecuted and (horror!) suffered consequences when they break the law? Chaos, my friend, chaos! Oh no, we can't have that! /s
As to your second point, the word Democrat never appeared in the article. Nor did the nickname for his private jet, the Lolita Express, or that Bill Clinton was a frequent passenger on that jet.
Acosta should resign as labor secretary or be fired. That being said, and I do believe it and I believe Epstein should go to prison, this likely never would have come up if Acosta wasn’t associated with Trump. This stayed buried all through the Obama years. Of course everybody on the inside knew about it and did nothing, but when he became associated with Trump.... Not to mention that ever since losing the election, the Clintons have been in bad odor so Epstein’s last line of defense fell.
I think it's time to fire everyone in the Department of Justice. From Ruby Ridge to the ranger guy, the politicised FBI and the disgraceful actions of this case.
The rot is not just in Washington.
I think it would be great if Epstein spilled his guts on his way to prison. But I kind of doubt that is going to happen.
"I think it's time to fire everyone in the Department of Justice. From Ruby Ridge to the ranger guy, the politicised FBI and the disgraceful actions of this case."
I agree, but must note: the FBI has ALWAYS been politicized. This is not just a recent phenomenon.

Except, possibly, literally.

Everyone above the rank of gumshoe needs to be cleaned out. Start over.
"Nor did the nickname for his private jet, the Lolita Express, or that Bill Clinton was a frequent passenger on that jet."
I believe the correct title is not passenger, but Co-Captain.
Who are the Florida state prosecutors who let this guy get a year of time, and Willie Horton furloughs?
This is state and federal corruption.
Who were the judge’s who accepted this bullshit?
Who were Epstein’s lawyers who got him this connected plea?
Acosta isn’t the only piece of shit here. A lot of these people need to be disgraced.
Ken Starr and Dershowitz were part of Epstein’s defense team. Also another guy who worked for W.
Kirkland & Ellis.
Time to start hounding these jagoffs.
I've known Jeff for fifteen years. He's a terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with. He likes beautiful women, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it -- Jeffrey enjoys his social life.
Mueller was head of the FBI at this time. What did he know and when did he know it?
You can read the judge's opinion at the link. He states as a fact that Epstein "sexually abused more than 30 minor girls" and "directed other persons to abuse the girls sexually.
And we know who some of these 'other persons' are. Let's see some lists in the MSM. Oh, wait...aren't they all Dems?
If anything could wreak havoc on America's political class it'd be Epstein's little black
book or videos.
"So what it is in [Andrea] Dworkin’s long-neglected oeuvre that has suddenly become resonant?"
Powerful juxtaposition.
“What do you suppose will happen to those prosecutors who broke the law?”
It’s bad enough that cops can lie to entrap suspects, but it is supposed to be unethical for attorneys to do so, or actually anyone working for them (which is why I was bothered by the Blue Bloods episode last week where ADA Erin Reagan’s investigator was showing Jamie Reagan’s fiancé how to get information from suspects by lying to and misleading them). But facetiously, prosecutors who break the law get promoted and ultimately hired by independent counsel investigations like Mueller’s.
Little OT, but did anyone else notice that McCabe, Strzok, etc lied and intentionally misled Gen Flynn in order to catch him in a perjury trap they had set for him? They essentially lied to him to catch him in misstatements. That seems so wrong to me. It is the height of hypocrisy, that they can lie to catch someone in a lie. Normally, we ignore this hypocrisy and double standard because the lying is done for mostly honorable reasons. But here, it was done in order to destroy the Presidency of the man to whom the people lying to Flynn owed their loyalty to, as well as their power to investigate crimes in the first place.
I agree with Bill and Cookie: The whole DOJ needs to be scrapped and rebuilt. The corruption is not new and, as Cookie observes, neither is the politicization.
Henry @ 7:47: Move your post to the proper thread where it will have more impact. :-)
The Judge was appointed by GWB. Also, he's Althouse's (and my sister's) age.
I hope to see more revelations in the coming weeks/months on this case. Tear down that wall.
@mockturtle -- it's the juxtaposition of this post following the Dworkin post that I wanted to call attention to. The rhetorical question pays forward.

Sorry, Henry. I was too obtuse to get it. Duh! :-)

I'd need to take this moment to admit that (on THIS issue), i am in Complete Agreement with Robert.
It sorta pains me to say this, but (on THIS issue); Robert Cook is Absolutely Correct
But that doesn't make it right.
There is a picture of Bob Menendez D-NJ at a state dinner escorted by a beautiful woman who appears in Epstein’s little black book. Not to worry though! It’s all on the up and up, you can tell by the ‘D’ after his name!
Now. do Bob Menendez, D-NJ
!
Now, here's a group that DOES deserve a 'noose' around their neck. But they've probably been promoted.

The Clintons are not having a very good morning today, are they?
Good going, New Jersey.
Much better to have a old slimey vile corrupt D, than an upstanding good R.
Acosta needs to be out, Epstein needs to be in jail along with Clinton. Correction -- all the Clintons.
I poorly worded one of my comments above. I was referring to the crime-fraud exception to the attorney-client privilege. Since David Kendall and Hillary's other lawyers were covering-up evidence of crimes (and also deleting evidence that was then under subpoena) the deleted emails can be discovered and Kendall must testify about his actions.
But then again, a real AG and US Attorney would have to do this stuff.
Sessions was the worst!
Eddie Haskell "republican" Chuck: "I've known Jeff for fifteen years. He's a terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with. He likes beautiful women, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it -- Jeffrey enjoys his social life."
LOL
So transparent.
Trump knows every well known personality up and down the East Coast. Hardly controversial. That you believe resurrecting this already completely debunked democrat smear tactic simply reinforces what everyone already knows about you.
So pathetic, and so very very you!
Here's a helpful bit of advice: select 1 day each year where you dont attempt to be the first in line to amplify whatever the far left is throwing out as the smear narrative of the day!
LOL
Seriously, just 1 day a year try to disengage your lips from the rear end of the nearest democrat/far left partisan.
"Lifelong republican"...(wink wink)
Granted, the woman shown escorting Menendez was Gwendolyn Beck, a longtime Epstein crony who was however, apparently, a remarkably well-preserved 49 at the time of the photo.
Here's the perfect example of how Epstein played the swamp to his advantage for decades, with all the usual republican/democrat uniparty types on board, figuratively.
These are the folks that worked through the RNC and Priebus and others to recommend Acosta.
But Dick Durbin Cuckholster Chuck would like to lay these decades worth of action at the feet of Trump.
LOL
The "brilliant" Maddow could not have offered up a more dem/lefty take on things.
Too perfect.
Dont worry Chuck, all your strong lefty allies will be along in a minute to help you out, as they do every single day 'cuz you guys are great teammates.
There is something to be said for team loyalty, I think.
LLR Chuck's clearly bad faith posting this early this morning will guarantee another LLR Chuck "Eddie Haskell-ish" suckup post to Meade and Althouse before noon!
Be on the lookout!
Chuck's transparently insincere suckup posts are really some of his best posts!!
One can imagine Chuck's slimey and greasy suckup technique being the cornerstone of his obsequious servility to democrats.
I wouldnt be surprised if he literally bent the knee to them, being "old school" and all...
"I've known Jeff for fifteen years. He's a terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with. He likes beautiful women, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it -- Jeffrey enjoys his social life."
Does anyone else find this statement horrifying?
Mere “bending the knee” won't do! Full proskynesis — flat on the ground, face down — is required.
He's quoting Trump.
Equal justice under the law my ass.
And yeah. Bob is right, but it is kinda obvious, bob.
I find Trumps statement a bit of wry humor.
Acosta didn’t sign off on this without approval from the higher ups at DOJ. Eostein’s Lawyers were dealing with the higher ups.
Another fiasco from W’a administration. The gift that keeps on giving.
Bob Boyd: "He's quoting Trump."
I think JAORE knows that, and is simply pointing out that because over the years Trump has seen Epstein at a number of large public gatherings and made his comment its neither controversial or horrifying.
What a few members of the lunatic left (and LLR Chuck, naturally) want to do is somehow smear Trump and transfer the swampy actions over 3 decades of all the swampy types onto Trump.
Naturally, the mere thought of dems smearing and attacking a republican gets LLR Chuck fired up as these are the moments he knows he can demonstrate his real value to Team Left.
So Chuck gets all peppy and excited like a puppy jumping out of his "welcome to your new home" box.
buwaya: "I find Trumps statement a bit of wry humor."
Indeed.
But hey, there are dems and uniparty republicans to defend so Chuck is Lefty Narrative Johnny On The Spot.
Notice LLR Chuck has nothing to say about Acosta, Acostas backers, Epstein and Epstein's elaborate and long-running and deep relationships with democrats, including Bill and Hill and how many trips with Epstein did Bill take WITHOUT taking his Secret Service Protectors with him?
Come to think of it, no wonder LLR Chuck jumped out of the gate in Full Dem Defense Mode!
Acosta was some hapless us atty and he was tackled by the new England Patriots equivalent Starr dershowitz a host of others.
It's only obvious if you know. Chuck didn't put quotation marks around it or provide context. Chuck's trolling as usual. And he's getting what he wants which is to make the conversation about himself.
Acosta was told what to do by his superiors in DC.
Epstein was protected.
David kendall who also was counsel to the Enquirer was Clintons fixer, re his bimbo eruptions and later the whole server unpleasantness.
Mueller covered up bulger's handiwork on recommendation from his boss, at the Boston ua attorney office future governor william weld, who is the scion of Boston bankers.
"Acosta didn’t sign off on this without approval from the higher ups at DOJ. Eostein’s Lawyers were dealing with the higher ups."
Acosta hasn't said that. And even if he was "pressured" - he could blown the whistle instead of acting like a gutless ass-clown. This happened during the Bush Administration - I'm sure the MSM and Dems in Congress would've been very interested.
So Epstein was running a real life hellfire club, not like the tendentious tapper novel.
Well it's interesting how just a trickle of mames leaked out about the DC madam, David Vitter and two Bush administration officials
Amazing how big money can buy modern day indulgences...
Is Trump our modern day Martin Luther?
I think that, first of all, Trump needs a new Secretary of Labor The best spin that Acosta can put on this sorry episode is that he was only following orders from higher-ups. But f he can’t or won’t name those higher ups then he’s hanging in the breeze.
Second is that I would like to know what it is with child rapists that the Brits (Rotherham) and here in the United States can be ignored for years and, at least initially, let off with wrist slaps? In England the social class of the victims (meaning working class and lower middle class) was deemed to play a role. Us that what’s happening here? Also Epstein contributes large sums of money to prominent Democrats — obviously it gave him a degree of immunity from prosecution, but should it?
And, third, Cookie is quite right about the FBI. It’s hard to remember that once upon a long time ago da young and then idealistic J. Edgar Hoover was initially brought into the FBI’s predecessor organization to clean up a thoroughly corrupt agency. If I were Trump I would put cleaning up the FBI on my to do list (not that Mueller, Comey, and McCabe have’t put it there already).
The agents and loyalists of the Bush admin were also implicated in the anti-populist “resistance”.
Part of that is because the system includes a very large part of what once was the Republican, or nominally Republican, infrastructure. This of course includes many of the think tanks, magazines, and their funders.
That’s why this all is best described as a caste war.
Mind you, all those people have in fact been sidelined, they are no longer fed by the channel of the curses honorum, they are a dead branch.
“Curses honorum” - a happy typo.
Acosta is a swamp rat. If he blew the whistle he would have ruined his career. Instead he went along and was promoted for it.
Trump should fire Acosta and actually find out how exactly this happened. But he doesn’t have the focus.
Mark Filip was the Deputy Attirney General who signed off on this plea.
Haul him in front of Congress and let’s hear what he has to say.
1. I would dump Acosta
2. I would have each of these 30 girls get a Guardian Ad Litem and sue Epstein, individually, and get him under oath as often as possible, and get some settlement $$ out of him.
3. I would have AG Barr re-open the investigation into the human trafficking component of the case -- a separate case for each victim. (criminal acts are generally not lumped together).
This would be a good first step.
Bay Area Guy,
Epstein already settled with them. The payoff was part of the plea deal.
Go after the state and federal officials who approved this deal. Start with Acosta and the county DA and work up.

I want very much to say this; not for my benefit but for Althouse's. When I have complimented and/or congratulated Althouse for blogging brilliance and excellence, it has been and always will be 100% genuine. I have never falsely praised her and I never will. I am completely confident that she will provide plenty of opportunities in the future to do more of it. She's an exceptional blogger. And writer. And legal scholar.
AND; when I think Althouse gets it wrong, I say so. Directly, without any personal aspersions. Althouse got at least a couple of things wrong in the Zion Williamson/Nike blog post and her associated comments. I said so. I said it clearly, and provided the basis for my comments. She thought that Nike shoe contracts with the big college powers were "secret". They aren't. It might be that Duke and Notre Dame and some others, as private schools, aren't subject to FOIA. But I gave her the link to the public, online .pdf of the Wisconsin Badgers' equipment/apparel contract with UnderArmour (new in 2016). The big shoe deals in college basketball are hardly "secret," and nobody told Zion which model of the hundreds of Nike basketball shoe models to wear.
So yes; I congratulate Althouse when her blog posts are particularly valuable and interesting to me, and I try to correct her and/or challenge her when I think she's been mistaken.
And you can't find a single example of my writing that would contradict this.
And to JAORE: You were right. It is horrifying. Keep trusting your gut.

Not sure what it is going to take to get you all to figure it out.
There are no democrats and republicans. There is only the uniparty, their globalist owners and their stupid tool voters vs. us. Bush, Romney, McCain, Flake, Sasse, Murkowski et al are all on the other side.
I am not sure why any of you except Chuck still defend Romney and Bush and Flake and Kasich.
“And we know who some of these 'other persons' are. Let's see some lists in the MSM. Oh, wait...aren't they all Dems?”

Par for the lefty/LLR course.
Trump owned his own plane and his own resort, whereas Bill Clinton was frequently reported using Epstein's private plane to go to Epstein's island. You know Clinton was just a poor boy from Arkansas, Trump was from a successful NY family. They weren't in the same league. According to an article I just read from the NY Post Epstein was able to keep his VIP guests from turning on him because he had hidden cameras and filmed their activities.
Epstein value was to the power network, perhaps he was an bureau informant there are indications of this, consider the converse with Edwin Wilson he went up for illegally supplying Qaddafi and training mercs against his enemies in reality he did this for the company, like a real life raymond remington.
Golden Dossier gal: "Investigate. Let the chips fall where they may."

I think you've used up your "probable cause" goodwill by now. We'll need to see a real basis for any investigation of Trump moving forward.
And I don't care how much your dem pals paid for the highest quality of hoax "evidence", we'll need real probable cause next time.
According to several, well, fringe websites, Trump made one trip to Epstein's Island, saw what was going on, turned around, and left. And that was when he made his decision to eventually run for POTUS- when he knew he could win. Trump was known to have said he wouldn't run for POTUS unless he was going to win.
One thing that hasn't been widely covered, if at all covered, in the MSM is that child porn arrests and prosecutions have gone way up since almost the day Trump was inaugurated. My former doctor is now sitting in jail for what will likely be the rest of his life on a child porn charge. A former Scout leader I know is awaiting sentencing. Networks are being rolled up. Unanswered question- how much information was gleaned from Weiner's computer?
If you peruse a site called crazydaysandnights.net there are constant references to underage sex amongst the Hollywood elite. And more frequently now, people are being called to account for it. The Hollywood elite mix with the uniparty elite.
Molesters find each other and aid each other. How? I don't know. But I also don't know how gamblers find bookies- but they do. Or how druggies find dealers- but they do. If you're not involved with any of this stuff, you have no idea, but if you are, you know how to find others.
We know there's smuggling along the southern border. Sex trafficking and drugs- and other stuff. (Freon is sometimes mentioned....) But yet, despite the vast majority of Americans wanting a barrier put up- Washington insiders resist. Why? Are they getting something out of the illegal traffic? Or are they threatened with exposure?
... there are constant references to underage sex amongst the Hollywood elite
Looking at their uniform support for Roman Polanski, despite the fact that he admitted to drugging and sdomizingva 13 year old girl, despite her verbal protests, I find this easy to believe.
Hollywood and DC are filled with Scum.
Take down their enablers. The scumbag lawyers and political appointees are no better than they are.

Remember, Meryl Streep herself called Harvey Weinstein "sort of a God" (hey, just like other lefties/LLR's called Obama!).
Remember all of Hollywood rose as one to give a sustained, multi-minute standing ovation to Roman Polanski. They praised him. They lauded him.
Remember, as Big Mike points out, Fun-Guy Roman drugged and orally and anally sodomizing a 13 year old girl.
That's all.
No biggee.
That 13 year old girls name was not "Heather Heyer", so she too does not count. Just another body on the path to the lefties/LLR's Brave New World.
Trans-social, but societal norms are historically progressive liberal (i.e. monotonically divergent).
Its quite clear, as of a few years ago, that there is indeed an institutionalization of homosexuality and homosexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Entire American seminaries at some points kicked out every student who WASN'T homosexual, as it would have compromised the "club", and in this these institutions were aided and protected by Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals.
This is besides the coverups and reassignments and even the deliberate turning of blind eyes, as the current Pope has done.
And the extreme hypocrisy of the reaction when the institutional rot is mentioned.

IIRC, 60 Minutes even had an episode regarding this very situation. There was a young seminarian who was welcomed with gay porn greeting cards. Do you remember this? The whole place was all about gay sex.
Yeah, Epstein recruited her at a Trump resort. There is zero evidence that Trump had anything to do with it, but KEEP HOPE ALIVE!
Its quite clear, as of a few years ago, that there is indeed an institutionalization of homosexuality and homosexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Entire American seminaries at some points kicked out every student who WASN'T homosexual,
There is a book explaining this and how it occurred. It is titled, " Goodbye Good Men" and was written in 2002. Many clergy have agreed it is accurate.
