"This place sounds great. The only thing Keene needs more than a great Pho place is a sense of humor."

Said a commenter, quoted in "A New Hampshire city council is miffed by ‘Pho Keene Great’ restaurant name" (WaPo).

Hahaha, now that's funny. Kinda demands a "Lighten Up Francis" tag.

I don’t mind a little nod to decorum in this coarse, profane, vulgar culture we find ourselves in.

My favorite restaurant in ChinaTown in NYC was Won Hong Lo.

So, there's that.

AZ Bob म्हणाले...

The problem can be remedied by changing the name to Pho King.

The Cracker Emcee Refulgent म्हणाले...

Yeah, kind of funny, but not something you want on a sign in your town. The same people who who complain about rising incivility have no fucking idea how this kind of thing contributes to the decline.

I had wondered what the pilots of Asiana Flight 214 - Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk - had been doing after the abrupt termination of their aviation careers.

The folks down the road in Athol do have a sense of humor.

Pho Keene Great and coming soon!

Minneapolis and St. Paul have a Pho King and an iPho.

FYI, 'Pho' is pronounce 'Fuh' with a flat vowel not 'Foe', thus the rudeness of Pho Keene or Pho King is pretty evident.

Anyone up for a trip to Phuket? I hear it is lovely this time of year.

A Phuket junket?

Book it!

Cue the pho outrage.

Thanks for reminding me. "Crazy Rich Asians" is out on DVD and I can order it from the library.

Saw it in the theater and loved it. My wife and I read the first book, and she blazed through #2 and #3. We especially loved how Kwan didn't get a shit about writing "rules." He drops in footnotes talking about his personal experiences and even addresses the audience directly. Throws in all kinds of racist shit, like that Chinese call Chinese-Americans "bananas" and that nearly everyone over there hates the Japanese. Tells a damn good story, too.

Do people from my generation of draftees actually like Vietnamese cuisine? Brings back unhappy memories, and I (fortunately) stayed on this side of the Pacific.

No worse than Fuki Sushi in River Edge.

There are a number of restaurants across this fair land with names that are variants on "What the Pho," but of these, my favorite is Wat Da Pho of Beavercreek, Ohio, because, well, who named that town?

I love the name of the restaurant- it is creative and just a bit subtle, too. I had to look at it for about 30 seconds before I realized what it was doing- literally had to say it out loud before I got it.

The Thai place in Keene has some of the best Thai food ever. I've been there with friends who lived in Thailand and they agree. And now this restaurant. So visit beautiful Keene, there's two things to do besides passing through.

Big Mike... Fellow I worked with (marine), carried a good size chunk of shrapnel in his back wouldn't even look at you if you brought in Chinese carry out. Another fellow (green beret) loved Chinese, but didn't care much for Montagnard chow. Most of the vets went for the Thai food. They picked up the taste on R&R.

Beavercreek High School used to have a sign on the front of the building in large letters declaring "Home of the Battling Beavers". For some reason it was removed when they refurbished the building.

Beaver County PA had to become a dry County in order to prevent having a store named Beaver Liquors.

So if the town council doesn’t share the WaPo commenter’s adolescent sense of humor, he’ll assume they don’t have any at all. Perhaps they can find some way to live with that.

Inquiry म्हणाले...

Amusingly, Keene is the town they filmed Jumanji in. This would be an interesting backdrop to the stampede scene.
