"... despite the big farm bill President Donald Trump signed this week designating hemp as an agricultural crop.... In a statement... FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb restated his agency’s stance that CBD is a drug ingredient and therefore illegal to add to food or health products without approval from his agency.... CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in hemp, a version of the cannabis plant that is low in THC, the part of cannabis that gives pot its high."
Reports the North Bay Business Journal.

CBD oil can help with pain and act as a sleep aid. Some people I know swear by it. It is hard to find and it's very expensive. Supposedly the level of THC is so minuscule, many people wanting a high are left disappointed.
I'm pro CBD.
"CBD oil can help with pain and act as a sleep aid..."
To say that is to support the FDA's position that its approval is needed.

Fuck you, Scott Gottlieb and your silly FDA, which doesn't seem to have much to say about "CDB" other than "FDA's Center for Drugs and Biologics (CDB)".
If you search fda.gov
"Sorry, no results found for 'cdb hemp' [without quotes]. Try entering fewer or broader query terms."
[cdb marijuana] = two results which don't mention the CDB chemical.

There are lots of "non-psychoactive compounds" that have supposed health benefits such as herbs, vitamins and minerals. The FDA doesn't regulate those.
This type of stuff about marijuana makes the Republicans look stupid.
I'm no expert - but some people who live with chronic pain are aided by CBD. The side effects are not so harsh. Pain relievers - from Advil to Opioids - have negative side effects. I do not know the long term effects of using CBD, and that is probably the issue I would guess.
I'm not industrious.
Tocqueville (Democracy in America, chapter 6) ... "It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd."
I have no idea if the FDA should be in the approval business as it pertains to CBD. Seems a bit nanny state to me. Let it out and put the warnings on it.
I do know that people want whatever they can get to help ease pain and they don't want to be joined at the hip with opioids. Funny - the nanny state wants us all off opioids too.
In Massachusetts, a woman struck five pedestrians with her SUV, killing a five-year-old girl and left an infant in critical condition. She told police that she hadn't slept much the night before, and had vaped CBD oil in her vehicle before the crash occurred.

Try: "cbd hemp," Emily Litella
Sleep deprivation probably causes more accidents than CBD oil.
"had vaped CBD oil in her vehicle before the crash occurred."
When personal responsibility is lapse, we all pay.
Try: cbd hemp

"Dear Bad Person:
This is to advise you that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. So knock it off."
Now that Sessions is gone I predict that at some point before the 2020 election (possibly as an October 2020 surprise) Trump will remove marijuana from the Schedule I substance list, which would effectively legalize weed at the Federal level.
"Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of dozens of compounds found in the cannabis plant. But unlike its more notorious chemical cousin tetrahydrocannabinol or THC—the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana—CBD produces no euphoric “high.” "
Is CBD a Remedy for Autism? TBD.
"The breakheart of lysdexia! "
I won't make claims that CBD oil can treat that disease but... Knows who?
Here's what I was looking for -
"Statement from FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., on signing of the Agriculture Improvement Act and the agency’s regulation of products containing cannabis and cannabis-derived compounds"
Today, the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 was signed into law. Among other things, this new law covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd.
Just as important for the FDA is our commitment to soften, bend, and guide the flock of timid and industrious animals, of which we are the shepherds, and constantly restrain them from acting."
I'm practicing my creative quotating in anticipation of a reportering job at CBS.
CBD is so expensive! And it didn't do a damn thing for me.'
Kratom, on the other hand, does work and is cheap. So Gottlieb wants to schedule it.
Knows who?
#menot! Even though I see the term "CBD" ("bone stimulant") every time I drive down Main St, it still looks wrong, perhaps because CBS is evil.
Fun fact: our Republican county commissioner has a hemp farm.
There is no problem weed cant solve! This isn't weed however, it's hemp- the banal crop we use to make rope and those cool sweaters potheads wear! but the oil derived from hemp is a miracle drug! but don't regulate it because you don't get high from it like you do with weed. and it's already sold in stores so just forget about it, says the hemp lobbyist.
If I wasn't already lectured on the benefits of weed I'd say this is what happens to logic when you smoke too much weed.
I make my own CBD extract for the wife who has chronic neck problems that triggers complex-partial seizures. It's way cheaper and more effective than the hemp derivitives, but you need to be a little technical and scientific to do it right.
How it works is a mystery, but we have built-in canabinoid receptors. I guess there is some synergistic effects with both THC and the various terpenes that are contained in the whole flower. Life is an experiment, don't be a pussy.
I tried CBD for chronic neck and back pain. It might have helped with the pain, I just can't tell. I would probably use it if it were less expensive but with uncertain effectiveness I stopped buying it. That being said, if you are in pain try it and see if it works for you. Everyone responds differently to different compounds and if it does work great.
CBD in isolation has been studied and found to shrink tumors in rats. I believe that it is worth studying its effects on physical regeneration. I did a video about cannabis and chromothripsis, which can be found here. Cannabis and Genotoxicity. The reference is to an NIH study that compared the heritable toxicity of chronic cannabis consumption to Thalidomide. Later.
That one isn't too fun, but if any baseball fans are here, this is my story about being Dodgers batboy in 1980. My Dodgers Batboy Story. Thanks Ann and Meade. Later fam-a-lam.
My doc tells me there’s evidence some of it is converted to THC in the body. You could fail a drug test if you use it. Be careful.
Perhaps before worrying about whether it's legal to sell, its promoters might sponsor some real science to show that it's actually a safe and effective treatment for something?
And, no, testimonials don't count as "science."
If it wasnt for thc, hemp would rightly be in the same category as papyrus.

This is very interesting. I have been spending time considering what I know (i.e. assume with a very high degree of confidence) people mean vs. what they say and it opens up a lot of room* for Althouse-like persons to conjure and connive, or, oppositely, as Althouse, endure hardship on behalf of a belief that free speech is a value we all must understand needs upholding.
*reference to Flo and Jimmy or whatever from Progressive Insurance? Like when I hear a fucking duck I think of Geico?
NOT RIGHT. Ultimately the hunters who conserve because they care are vilified** while the enviro whackos who KILL humans because of smelt or mouses or etc. shall be judged as devaluating human life, one of the most grave sins I could imagine Jesus calling a sin.
**I honestly thought it had two "l"'s.
Why did Clinton and Bush and Obama smoke their weed the way in which they smoked that damnly-sweeted leaf? Is this the regression to the mean in the sense none of the children of the dope smoking potUS's will amount to much more than very, very, very blessed by God on Earth?
Figuread it out the reason I will always (even though I know now the opposite_) think villify has that extra l is because of the concept of pronouns.
In my local Hippie Store, I find a curiously locked up, new to the place corner cabinet for CBD stuff.
Funny to see the simulacrum of Diamonds and other jewels, based on even sketchier considerations of worth being so valued.

Thalidomide! LOL. Those sleazy drug warriors never give up, I gotta hand it to them for that.
Notice all the NIHs in the links below.
"We found no differences in birth outcomes or utilization of prenatal care by marijuana exposure."
Unlike observations made at 48 months, [50 and 72 months tests of] prenatal exposure to marijuana was not associated with the cognitive and verbal outcomes.
"Prenatal, Perinatal, and Neonatal Exposure to Cannabis"
Cognition/Academic Achievement
Systematic Reviews The committee did not identify a good- or fair-quality systematic review that reported on the association between cannabis exposure and cognition and academic achievement of the child.
Primary Literature The committee reviewed this literature in terms of preschool cognitive development and later cognitive development. Among the studies that examined cognitive development up to 3 years of age, no difference was found.
...
CONCLUSION 10-4 There is insufficient evidence to support or refute a statistical association between maternal cannabis smoking and later outcomes in the offspring (e.g., sudden infant death syndrome, cognition/academic achievement, and later substance use).

Chromothripsis and epigenomics complete causality criteria for cannabis- and addiction-connected carcinogenicity, congenital toxicity and heritable genotoxicity. Chromsomes becoming dislodged from the mitotic spindle, isolated in micronuclei and chaotically re-connected sounds below average. It's about trade-offs.
"THC shows a non-linear sigmoidal dose-response relationship in multiple pertinent in vitro and preclinical genotoxicity assays, and in this respect is similar to the serious major human mutagen thalidomide."
I have been working with hemp oil/CBD et. al. for a while. Confusion remains. Let me help define the key issues.
You can extract oil from the hemp plant. This extraction may contain CBD, plus other cannabinoids, and terpenes. It may also contain THC, which provides the high. Producers/extractors are now creating full spectrum oils. Full spectrum contains CBD (cannabidiol), other cannabinoids, and terpenes, which contain trace (less than .3%) THC. There is no psycho-active drug effect from this oil. You can also create a 100% pure CBD isolate, meaning no other cannabinoids, terpenes and zero THC.
It is thought that the CBD is what produces the therapeutic effect. It is now believed that the other cannabinoids and terpenes actually help the CBD work better.
Regulation:
The DEA generally isn't interested in CBD oil or products without the THC. They could go after it, but they have bigger fish to fry.
The FDA is very interested in CBD for two reasons:
First, they consider a drug, which it technically is, but shouldn't be. It is no different that throwing Aloe on a burn. Aloe Vera is not a drug and therefore not regulated, whereas lidocaine is categorized as a drug and is regulated as such by the FDA. This FDA clown wants it to be considered a drug so they can regulate it. Regulators are human. They are self-serving. They will always choose to expand their empire when it serves their interests. This is where there must be a definitive ruling on CBD oil as a non-drug natural supplement.
Second, FDA regulation includes enforcing claims. This IS where the FDA has full jurisdiction. It is under this mandate that anything making a "drug claim" be proven safe and effective. So, if I make a elixir made with ground up parsnip, put it in a bottle and claim that it cures cancer, the FDA can swoop in, shut me down, and confiscate all my product unless I can prove both safe and effective.
This is where proper CBD oil regulation should fall. It should be based on claims, not the ingredient itself.
