Person of the Year.
The article at TIME: "THE GUARDIANS AND THE WAR ON TRUTH." They couldn't just honor Khashoggi. I haven't combed through the article, but Trump's name is in there a lot, and I don't think he counts as one of the "guardians."
ADDED: I must add that I got there via the great Scott Adams tweet: "Fake News is Time's Person of the Year."

Honoring Kashoggi as a "columnist" is a nice way to illustrate the MSM war on truth.
Scott Adams - Time put Trump on the cover - without putting him on the cover.
The Fake News honors others in the totally discredited MSM.
Might as well put Morning Joe on the cover. It is all about impeaching Trump. And only our betters in the Fake News can save us from Trump and his hush money payments to whores.
What a total and complete joke Time is. It needs to go bankrupt.
Kashoggi had a column. I guess that made him a columnist. But he was many other thangs, too.
As always, this is more complicated than the MSM makes it out to be.
Trump's name is in there a lot, and I don't think he counts as one of the "guardians.“
And yet he really is a guardian of the truth. By that I mean the objective truth as it really is, not the facsimile of the “truth” after the media finish spinning it, ignoring it, misstating it, misinterpreting it, or otherwise twisting it out of shape.
Time's man of the year.
Used to be important before Cable TV and the internet, when lots of people got their news from reading Time or Newsweek - once a week.
But that was 25 years ago.
And the whole Saudi thing is fake news, made up to hurt Trump. Just like always.
I remember Time magazine. It used to come in the mail, when I was a kid. Are they still around?
Looks like a dystopian science fiction series for teenagers. Soon to a major motion picture.
And anyone familiar with that genre knows that any group called "Guardians" would absolutely be the bad guys.
In fact, in N.K.Jemisin's The Broken Earth series, the very most awful people in the story are the Guardians.
BTW, I'm still trying to figure out why Einstein was Time's "Man of the Century".
And no, he's not the "father of the A-bomb"
It's fake news to claim that Americans even GAF about kashoggi.
Wasn’t this once “Time’s Man of the Year”?
Maybe someone should find an old cover or two from that era and pillory Time, make Time lose gigs and money, all because it wasn’t and therefore isn’t properly woke (ala Kevin Hart and the Herman Winner).
They're still publishing Time Magazine? Good to know.
Grim, bleak, deathly serious imagery.
We're living through dire, horrifying times... at least according to the imaginations of the decision makers at Time. A country filled to the brim with evil, run by the tyranical Bad Orange Man.
But there is hope and light in the virtuous journalists of Time and other mainstream media outlets who bravely resist the Orange Man who is Bad!
the sermons at the Church of Correctness are boring and interminable
Why isn't everyone sharing their view of Trump?
So they double down
Oh where is Saint Obama the Lightbringer of caring and empathy?
What a difference an election makes
Time is still around?
The Time it is a changin.
They wanted to get a quote from Khashoggi's best friend but Osama Bin Laden was busy being dead at our hand.
Are they trying to make you buy 4 issues?
Once again they overlooked Allegra Budenmayer.
Sad.
Kashoggi was a Muslim Brotherhood intelligence operative and Propagandist. That's what passes for a columnist at WaPo these days. It was enough that he opposed the current Saudi despots, no matter that he had worked for the previous Saudi despots.

Is that what person of the year has been reduced to? An obscure person who was sort of a journalist got his 15 minutes because of who killed him. That's the year's most influential person?!
I'm with Howard. I didn't think they still existed. They certainly haven't been relevant or useful in a long time. I'm sure they have 4 covers as this is likely the only edition that sales at all.
"Mass media" is virtually dead. It's made up just about entirely of these kind of niche publications pandering to their niche audiences. TIME is a relic.
A large portion of my mainstream media consumption comes from this blog, in which the consumption is done merely to mock it. And I'm sure loyal readers of these publications do the same for publications I favor.
Kind of sucks we can't have something close to a "common culture" anymore.
What do they all have in common? They were all persecuted and put in jail by someone other than Trump.
Obama persecuted US journalists more than Trump has.
If I could, I'd spit Jell-O into their pantyhose.
Let's honor ourselves, Yay!
What a bunch of self-centered pricks.
A long long time ago, Time mattered, and they weren't monolithically leftist. They published Whitaker Chambers, for example. If you have a hard time imagining a right leaning magazine, you pretty much have to go back that far for an example.
Then the Long March Through The Institutions went about infiltrating it, killing it and wearing it like a skin suit. Just like every other institution. It's time to put them out of their misery and recreate the institutions anew, but this time with safeguards against the infiltration.
Is that what person of the year has been reduced to? An obscure person who was sort of a journalist got his 15 minutes because of who killed him. That's the year's most influential person?!
Journalists are Fredo.

Misunderstood huddled masses yearning to breathe free. And cut your throats.
TIME's White House correspondent, Hugh Sidey, used to skinny dip with JFK in the White House pool. He was not the most nonpartisan person to hold such an influential job, and he held it for decades.
Off thread but apropos of an earlier post re Kevin Hart. Sounds like the MPAA is considering “no host” for the Oscars. I guess now everyone’s afraid to take the job.
Let America host the Academy Awards. Put an electronic dog shock collar on all attendees and let America vote.
TIME would know about fake news. It's a specialty of the house.
"And 'Time' is what again?"
I really do like what Trump did by debating Chuck and Nancy in public like that. Trump knows how to put together entertaining spectacles. Sometimes I wish all of these debates were broadcast live like that.
The Drill Sgt, nailed it.
Koshoggi was a radical Islamist, who's goal was to take out the Crown Prince because he was lossening up the Kingdom. Moving away from Islamist govt. Time, using his name along with others only ties the entire media into the group of world wide propagandists.
If Koshoggi is a journalist, there are thousands of people that get more opinion pieces published than Koshoggi ever did, they do not consider them self a journalist.
What? Time has four different covers for the issue? Collect all four!
Missing is that pic sometimes posted at Instapundit of the fawning press on Hillary's campaign plane.
It's like the peacekeepers on farscape, there were the villains presiding over a distant galaxy.
"The Guardians and the War on Truth" = Hillary and the War on Women
Giving yourself awards is a big hobby of the left.
262 Journalists imprisoned worldwide in 2017, but none in the US since Obama did so. TIME didn't mention that last part.
How many journalists has Erdogan killed jailed or imprisoned?
If I may quote the great Steve Miller Band:
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin', slippin' into the future.......
Time really wants to honor Persian of the Year.
Navel gazing at its finest.
I continue to be bothered by the framing. Journalists should not be guardians of the truth. They aren't supposed to guard. They're supposed to report. Guarding is defensive and constrained. Reporting is proactive and unpredictable. Objectivity is not the same as "the Truth" and god forbid that any journalist think their job is defending such a totem.
The Drill Sgt, nailed it.
And the nail sgt drilled it.
TIME Announces New Version Of Magazine Aimed At Adults
The girl @1:10 cracks me up.
How does the media know what the truth is?
C'mon, that's easy.
If it's a hit on Trump, it's the truth. If it makes Trump look good, then ssssshhhhhhh.
A joke. I agree with Patricia Heaton...it should go to Gary Sinise!!
"And 'Time' is what again?"
What is 'Time' again?
How could Trump not be the person of the year, every year? He's all the media talks about 24/7. He seems awful important to them, even more important than he is to his supporters. Besides, they make a fortune off him. CNN should have a statue of him in the front lobby.
The lack of self-awareness is hilarious.
I don't like to over-use the term Wank Fest, but sometimes it's the most accurate word. This is one of those times.
Thomas Markle is my person of the year. He's Meghan Markle's dad, and he lives an hour south of here in Rosarito. I want to have a beer with this guy. His daughter is such a meanie. Thomas Markle!
The guardians and red guards are on the same team.
When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.
And anyone familiar with that genre knows that any group called "Guardians" would absolutely be the bad guys.
Wait! What about “Guardians of the Gslaxy”?
For Ann and others here who enjoy the occasional ambiguity of our language. From Drudge:
TIME 'Person of Year': Killed and imprisoned journalists...
Wait! What about “Guardians of the Gslaxy”?
LOL. Not dystopian.
Meryl Streep certainly is sufficiently self congratulatory enough to be a journalist.
However the only indication i blah exposure from her regarding intellectual heft is that she is smart enough to not earn a reporters salary.
Granted, MS has an actual work ethic, something that seems lacking in many J students today.
Someday, Matt Blaine will be Time Person of the Year. Not going to wait, though. Hey sports fans, another Cope Land! Today, the Heisman goes to Kyler Murray, Mazel Tov Sooner Nation. But why do they never take into consideration Blocked Kicks, which are to me, the most exciting play in all of sports. ok later
Guardians? There's only one Grauniad.
I care about this as much as I care who wins the Oscars.
I care about this as much as I care who hosts the Oscars.
On Instapundit someone--maybe Glenn Reynolds--posted something like, "98% of journalists agree they are the real heroes!"
"TIME 'Person of Year': Killed and imprisoned journalists..."
What's that smell........
I hate autocorrect.
Regarding the first comment, the best way to guard the truth is to lock it away in a deep dark hole where no one can find it
Well, Madam Althouse, the good news is that lawyers may be replaced by journalists when it comes to the 'dead lawyer' jokes.

Hahaha!! Great comment!! (AND so true!!)
People who think that journalists report "the truth" need to get their head examined. Any journalist who believes that it is his or her job to report "the truth" should be fired on the spot.
Journalists and their editors produce narratives which may or may not conform to existing narratives. That's it, that is all that they do.
Nonapod: "I really do like what Trump did by debating Chuck and Nancy in public like that. Trump knows how to put together entertaining spectacles. Sometimes I wish all of these debates were broadcast live like that."
Yep.
LLR Chuck is NOT going to like how Trump embarassed his hack dem heroes.

Holy shit, Althouse. Look at this comments page. One after another, denigrating the murder victim Jamal Khashoggi. Denigrating, that is, when your collected mouth-breathers aren’t butchering th spelling of his name.
Your blog has turned into InfoWars in the Trump era. Note the first comment on this page:

lol chuck just lol nobody cares about kashagoogie
Holy shit, Althouse. Look at this comments page. One after another, denigrating the murder victim Jamal Khashoggi.
Was this guy important before he got whacked?
Was he an American?
Was he working for our government?
Why is he special?
I'm proud of Althouse's blog.
Go fuck yourself, Chuckhead.
The Saudi Royal Family will see you in court for your libel here.
The Hill: US Citizen Layla Shweikani Likely Executed in Syrian Prison
Be honest, Chuck: had you heard of Layla Shweikani? If not, why not? She was a US citizen, from Chicago, Chuck. But few here have heard the story. Is she less important than a non-US journalist (or "journalist" since "activist" seems more appropriate)?
Being told to care about some things and not others is a political act, Chuck. A LifeLong Republican should be very familiar with the ways Media bias works. Choosing to cover some things and not other things is the primary vector through which Media bias and partisanship works.
People resisting the call to pay an inordinate amount of attention to the murder of a non-US citizen aren't bad people for that, Chuck--they may just be resisting what they see as propaganda. People who refuse to buy into the beatification of a guy who was, let's say, problematic at best, aren't bad people because of that, Chuck.
Khashoggi was a mega rich arms dealer and a Consiglieri to Prince Alaweed.Together the were CIA's inside agents supporting the Bush Family's wars for 30 years. As such they were up to their necks in bribing of senior US Politicians of both parties. But when Trump announced the end of that corrupt system the new Saudi Prince facing USA Oil dominance flipped to the new guys that offered him a Deal. He then gave Trump's MI the full records of all the bribed career US Politicians, who then started resigning and not running again faster than a NY second.
But the CIA guys and the Clinton Crime Gang are playing for time in hopes of a last second chance to kill Trump before they are arrested. Stay tuned.
Khashoggi was never an American . Khashoggi was never a Journalist. He recently had a CIA issued visa to come to DC for his protection and the CIA's owned Paper published two opinion pieces and put his name on them.
Chuck, I did not realize that murder victims were suddenly absolved of all sins. That would certainly complicate historical analysis certainly. I'm sure there would be a small but well motivated group to reclassify Hitler's suicide as a murder by the hands of that *bleeping* Goebbels. He murdered a hundred microphones so what's one more?!
The matter of the fact is Khashoggi was a bad man who was (most likely) assassinated by another bad man, and the entire event is being exploited by another bad man in Edrogan. I suppose if you want we can try to rank their level of badness to try to find who qualifies as most relatively righteous, but the matter of the thing is this situation is basically the equivalent of a gang war with somewhat more couth. Saudi Arabia is still stuck in the 7th century except with more expensive toys, and Khashoggi's goal appears to have been to create a slightly different version of the 7th century more to his liking. To me Khashoggi is basically Trotsky, the guy who was killed without achieving the power he wanted and therefore has some plausible deniability since he was not in the position to rack up the body count. I suppose he Khashoggi or Trotsky could have been the better option in the general order of things, but that is merely speculation and I tend to doubt it.
I'm still not sure why the Washington Post hired him. It seems like both sides considered the other to be a useful idiot.

Me and you, bags.
"Being told to care about some things and not others is a political act."
Very true words. You are very good in phrasing it like that, Hoodlum
As citizens, I am even prepared to hear Citizen X say I should care about, say, capital punishment, or taxation, or health care, or where the park should go, or critical issues affecting a subset of the population. I can always walk away / stop reading if I don't like what they have to say. And that rule cuts both ways if I hold the opposite view on say capital punishment taxes etc.
What citizen X and citizen me don't need is the Important Media Person telling us this is what you should think.

Trotsky designed the Gulag system. He also gave the order to massacre the independent-minded communists of Kronstadt.
There really were no good commies. Being "good" was and is not a thing that commies value.
OK, seems this guy was not all that.
Now, if Rachel Maddow, Don Lemon, Chris Matthews , Louis Farrakon or even Chuck or any other unknown American crazy was murdered by the Saudi's, I would be all for pay back and revenge.
That would make more sense.
"Brian Stelter republican" Chuck: "Your blog has turned into InfoWars in the Trump era"
LOL
MSNBC/CNN/Media Matters Fanboy Chuck chimes in!
Like Max Boot and Lefty Billionaire-funded Bill Kristol, LLR Chuck has so very very very much credibility when calling out partisan media!
When he isnt acting as the Cuckholster-Without-Peer for Da Nang Dick and Li'l Dickie Durbin.
Go ahead Chuck, hit us with another Vox/NPR/DailyKos #HotTake link!
LLR Chuck going to bat for a Muslim Brotherhood operative in order to undermine US relations with Saudi's/Israel/Egypt.
Gee, I did not see that one coming....

I apologize to fellow commenters. As we all know, Chuck's interventions are beneath contempt, but just to be clear:
Of course, I didn't "debase" K(h)ashoggi as "anything less" than a murder victim. I simply hinted at the fact that he is much more than a murder victim: a Muslim Brotherhood operative with a shady past, now used for nefarious purposes by Turkey and the MSM. Representing him as nothing more than a murdered columnist is to hide the truth. Willfully aiding and abetting that war on truth is to play into the hands of our adversaries.
Sebastian: "Willfully aiding and abetting that war on truth is to play into the hands of our adversaries."
LLR Chuck's only adversaries are conservatives and republicans and media who fight back against the dems/left/MSM.
Chuck hates that.
Hates. It.
Alot.
JUST IN: Federal Judge Orders Stormy Daniels to Pay President Trump $293,000 in Attorneys’ Fees
Chuck has posted a lot of stupid shit here but today takes the cake. Posting that a Saudi intelligence agent who chose the wrong side in a family argument is somehow a US journalist? The only scandal here is that WAPO decided to give a muslim brotherhood apologist and Osama Bin Laden bff cover as a fake journalist
How many people are murdered per day in the world?
The only difference about this K guy is that Chuck and the lying press can barely contort this murder into some indictment of Trump.
Where the fuck were you, Chuck, when Obama directly told Putin's man that he could be a lot more flexible after the election?
How many journalists has Putin and Edrogen killed or jailed?
You have no credibility on this issue and you have no moral authority here. You are inconsistent and fatuous.

"Michael Avenetti republican" Chuck hardest hit.
Kashoggi is directly connected to factions attempting to kill/overthrow the current Saudi leadership.
LLR Chuck is fully, and I mean fully onboard with that agenda.
But only completely.
then you add his stated sympathy for Islamic state, and hamas as recently as four years ago,

Chuck, if you're going to make fun of people misspelling "Khashoggi", it's a good idea not to misspell "the" in the same sentence.
And "mouth breathers" is two words, not hyphenated fucktard.
prince salman, is allowing open air masses in Saudi arabia, like I say he's like Michael among the corleones, his father having enabled the worst of Wahhabism,

They misspelled his name? This cannot stand! This is especially amusing from someone who can't spell "the".
Bias is consistently hyping whatever elements of the story help win the debate your team. When you're down to pretending misspelling a name is important you've lost.
wow Chuck is really feeling the heat, hey Chuck, time for Cope Land, cope buddy! lol.
good post by traditionalguy. yeppers.
The Time cover shows the persons of the year that 99.9% of Americans won't even be able to identify much less speak of how they influenced events in 2018.
I wonder if this issue is being delivered in bubble wrap ...
as I was pointing out from last night's link, yemen's conflicted ties with the asir, go back to 1921, not 1934, it was a later conflict, in 62, that involved Nasser and poison gas, that gave the elder khashoggi, his first business deal, supplying the british sas,

However, you have reaffirmed what most people here think You are a pompous, self-important, phony, little asshole.

Debasing Khashoggi as anything less than the victim of an incomprehensibly brutal murder orchestrated by a member of the Saudi Royal family is a nice way to illustrate the Trump cult’s war on truth.
It's never a good look to side with the Muslim Brotherhood and OBL in your attempts to bash Trump, Chuck.
But you knew that.
you know I hold the same regard for him, that he held for the 3,000 countrymen who died chosing between choking, burning or falling to their death, thanks to his friend bin laden,
that was in a column a month after the attack,
Chillblaine -
No - just linking.
dangit
Chuck you ignorant slut,
What happened to Khashoggi was painful, barbaric, and fatal. On that we agree.
BUT Khashoggi was, to the current rulers of Saudia Arabia, an opposing combatant in an unacknowleded but very real civil war; and if his side were to win the resulting slaughter of the House of Saud would make Khashoggi's fate look like just a rounding error. So while I don't approve of the regime's way of removing him as a threat--waaay more civilized to just lock him up somewhere resembling Gitmo, don'cha think? -- I do *understand* why they made a move against him.
why now, because Qatar and turkey wants to make khashoggi a martyr like qutb, he was the former school teacher radicalized by a church mixer in dry Greeley Colorado, and set about trying to topple Nasser, he was mohammed atta's inspiration, 35 years later, (his brother was one of bin Laden's teachers at king saud university,)
I don't GAF about Kashoggi just like the Dems and the media did not GAF about Kate Steinle.
ol I guess Chuck is all tuckered out! lol. Maybe he's looking for Kuato or something. Hey Quaid! Did I post this? My take on Cohaagen. He had a lot of decent administrative skills, lots of people overlook this! Ok here's my Total Recall attempt at humor.
I do fault the chop teams sloppiness though
https://spectator.us/jamal-khashoggi-time-person-year/
Perfect example of how journalism has become a circle jerk.
As Time's 2006 Person of the Year, I'm very disappointed with this year's selection.
I would bet that when the editors of Time decided to, essentially, name themselves the person of the year, that there was not a single dissenting voice.
No, distrust of the American media is not split along partisan lines. More than half of Democrats believe that media reports "fake news."
I don't get it.
Time is trying to identify itself with at least three brave bands of reporters who actually took risks
They gave it to themselves?
"Person of the Year? Me!"
Boy, everyone will want to buy that. How interesting.
As a thought experiment, try substituting the name “Kate Steinle” for “Khashoggi” the next time a Swamp Senator opens their mouth: “The murder of Kate Steinle was completely unacceptable and the president must do something about it NOW!” Or try this name-switch: “The CIA has thoroughly investigated and knows without a doubt who killed Seth Rich!”.
I play this “Switch the Name”-game sometimes when I want to pretend the Senate isn’t full of Swamp Rats, time-servers and Obama Muslim Brotherhood moles.
Is Time Magazine still being published? Who knew?
