Later, Summers touched on how “confusing” things must be for Miss Cambodia, Rern Sinat, because she doesn’t speak English and “not a single other person speaks her language." “Poor Cambodia,” Summers added.Why not blame Trump?
The comments, which were streamed on the Instagram page of Miss Colombia, Valeria Morales, to her more than 300,000 followers earlier this week, have since gone viral, with many calling Summers a “bully” and condemning the remarks as “racist” and “bigoted.” Morales and Miss Australia, Francesca Hung, have also been criticized for their part in the video....
“Regina George, is that you?,” one post said, comparing Summers to the notoriously two-faced queen bee from the 2004 film “Mean Girls.” “This is basically what normalized xenophobia looks like,” the post went on to say. “If she’s trying to show empathy, the condescending, intolerant tone tells a different story. A reminder that you’re participating in a competition in a country/continent where English is NOT the primary language.”
Other critics said Summers’s behavior was representative of “Trump’s America.”...

You give them too much credit. That sounds almost relevant if you don't think about it too much. But I have no doubt their thinking went something like this:
A. She is crass and dumb.
B. Trump is the source of all things crass and dumb.
C. Therefore, Trump caused this.

My youngest daughter was in the same grade as Miss Nebraska-Miss USA but at the best high school in Nebraska. My daughter is better looking and earned a scholarship to a top notch college. She also wouldn’t enter such foolish contests. So there’s that.
How many languages does Miss USA Speak?
Does she have any languages other than English?
Someone should explain to her that in the USA we have the First Amendment that guarantees everybody the right to speak in whatever language they damn well please. It does not guarantee this bitch the right to understand it or even be able to understand it. For example, speaking or writing in code.

Talking smack against coworkers, classmates, neighbors, etc., is a universal trait. That's how other people bond. And the three girls were actually showing empathy towards Miss Cambodia, saying how awful it must be to have no one that speaks your language in a place when you don't speak English or any other available language.

And did you know she was the LAST cheerleader at her high school? She was a squad of one; while she was swimming and in Mock Trial. The Administration went exclusively with a dance team.
She got every single girl in the high school to sign her petition asking that the cheerleading squad be allowed to continue. Every girl! That petition reads like the Declaration of Independence.

Being a native-speaker of English is an American privilege, not one that we receive from merit but from an accident of birth. We should be empathetic toward those who don't have that advantage and still make the attempt to learn our language. There but for the grace of God go we.
