Turns out that a government made up of and for the Hillbillies leads to chaos and failure. In January the Dow will be down below where it was when Trump took office two years ago.

Why is anyone surprised that people are putting their money into safe places instead of investing it?

If Mexico wrote US a check for $20 billion tomorrow, President Trump couldn't spend it on the wall until Congress approves the appropriation. Look there.

This is what a team of rivals looks like. Not the Obama coalition that agreed on what to do but couldn't decide who should sit on the throne. Vigorous debate is good for policy much of the time.

Right around Jan 20, 2019, we are going to hear about Paul Ryan sliding into an astonishing lucrative role somewhere as a reward for executing the "Big Switcheroo".
The markets decided that they don't want the Democrats in power, reversing the tax cuts and re-imposing regulations, and impeaching Trump and practicing lawfare.
Who can blame them?

I think that Trump May have been waffling a bit, but may have been reminded of where his base is, and why he was elected by the Freedom Caucus and talk radio. I had to run across town today to do errands in Snottsdale, and was listening to Rush. So, before the hour break, he is talking about how Trump would lose his base if he went through with signing the CR w/o wall funding. And everyone was laughing at Paul Ryan putting money in for “border security”, but no wall. Then, after the break, he announced that he had gotten a text message from someone saying that the author would veto the CR w/o border funding. But then maybe indicated that it was a tweet. That seemed to be the turnaround.
Rush is right. The border wall is important to a lot of Americans. Don’t remember the exact numbers, but 60% to 65% or so of the public consider this a major issue. Back in DC, Congress seems to put a higher priority on fluid sexual identities, personal pronoun selection, etc. there is this major disconnect right now between the public and their political representatives in DC. Dems can almost be forgiven, because their funding mostly comes, apparently, from ultra wealthy coastal enclaves where illegals provide cheap labor, but don’t compete with them for jobs. Enclaves often protected by armed guards. Republicans though don’t have this excuse. As their constituencies have moved down market socioeconomicly, their constituents are more and more affected by illegal immigration. So, they run on border security, then, when they get to DC, vote against the wishes of their constituents in order to maintain social relations with their neighbors and colleagues across the isle. So, a lot of them are being turned out of office early next month for going along to get along.
One thing that has changed is that Rush and other people around Trump seem to have convinced him not to worry about the long term ramifications of shutting down the government based on principles. His instincts were right when he told Schumer that he would own the shutdown. The govt employees who will be getting a free, very likely paid, holiday, already earn, for the most part more than they would in the private sector. Few tears outside the Beltway for them. In past shutdowns, the public was adversely affected mostly when Dems, esp Obama intentionally tried to aggravate the pain, by, for example, shutting down unmanned National Monuments, etc. For much of the country, shutting down nonessential services for a couple of days in order to improve border security is a good trade off.
Of course, Ryan doesn’t like this. But it was his own damn fault. He effectively led the sellout. If, over the last almost two years, if he had wanted to fund the wall bad enough, he could have made it happen. As with so many Republicans in DC, he said one thing to his constituents and the American public, but did something quite different. So, he has egg on his face. Boo hoo. He should have been talking with Trump and the Freedom Caucus, and not his replacement as Speaker, Nancy Palsy.
When will John McCain enter the Well of the Senate to turn a thumb down on a law he campaigned to pass?
Who plays the McCain GOPe role this time?
BTW, now that the House just passed the funding necessary for the wall and have sent it over to the Senate, do you think Lyin LLR Chuck, who passionately and vigorously backed Nancy Pelosi's assessment on the odds of passage, will show his face here to admit he was wrong?
I'll go out on a limb here and guess that our favorite LLR racist commenter will do no such thing.
In much the same way that LLR Chuck, self-described smear merchant, no longer shoots his mouth off about Trump not being able to deliver any Trade deals.

It used to be that I was worried when Schumer took over from Dingy Harry Reid. Reid looked like what he was, a small time crook from an small town in Nevada (my partner and her siblings grew up with the Reid kids in Henderson, now much nicer really than Las Vegas itself). He always had that small town hick vibe going on (Searchlight, his home town, really is pretty small). Schumer was just the opposite, the slick sophisticate from NYC. But when he met with Trump and Palsy the other day to talk about immigration and the wall, he looked like a frail older man. Probably just in comparison to the vigor of Trump, who, I belive is a couple years older. Incoming Speaker Palsy does look and sound her age, seemingly have some senior moments during the discussion. And she should really lay off the face lifts and Botox. Just accentuates her age. I don’t think that either one is going to be a match for Trump over the next two years, but expect that Schumer will do better at keeping up. I think that he used to be faster mentally. Now, he just seems to be running from prepared scripts. We shall see. I don’t think that the two of them, even with full MSM support, are going to win the shutdown fight.
Right now, the fast-developing news appears to be that the House leadership met with Trump and they were instructed to go back and put on the floor an amended bill that has the wall funding that Trump wanted. Because Trump was feeling pressure from his base and would not sign the Senate-passed CR that lacked the funding.
And now, the prospects of that amended bill passing a House vote looks unlikely!!!!

That is EXACTLY what Pelosi was schooling Trump on, in the infamous Oval Office meeting!!!! She told him, "Mr. President, you don't even have the votes in the House to pass it." And Trump snarled back that he could get it passed in the House in "one session" (whatever "one session" was).a

Because this time, it was a major campaign promise of a Republican president, made in the aftermath of the Republican establishment's betrayal of the conditions of the Reagan amnesty.
The base got burned the last time. They're not in a mood to be lied to again.
