At the Infrastructure Café...
... you can rearrange your mind.
And purchase whatever worldly supplies you may need through the Althouse Portal to Amazon. Did you know that Mitt Romney bought his tuxedo for the Met Gala on Amazon? Here's the brand we're told he bought.

What is the no-neck fat guy in your sketchbook saying?
Looks like he's saying, "The infrastructure in Cleveland needs to be repaired."
Fat no-neck white dudes can speak truth. How revolutionary!

Fat Bastard was the nadir of Mike Myer's comedy career, IMAO. He provoked not even a grin from my far from stony visage. I'll laugh at anything remotely funny. Fat Bastard was just absurd.
The sketchbook brings to mind Ethan Van Sciver's very entertaining ComicArtistPro Secrets Youtube channel. He often streams sketching sessions with live chats. It's interesting enough watching a pro artist at work, but his sarcastic commentary and interactions with his fans and supporters is great too.
12 Rules is right about the fact that nature as a rule has no problem with discarding males in vast numbers. The line from Mary Poppins about men? Although we adore them individually...
I don't think she's going to find that drawing very flattering!!
That drawing looks nothing like her.
Perhaps that's how Althouse pictures the inner voice that whispers conservative things to her dominate hemisphere in the hush of the night. It isn't the hip chick who devours Dylan, it's a no-neck fat guy in a suit who looks knows politics is the art of the possible. Fixing Cleveland's infrastructure is possible. Making mutually beneficial deals with Iran is apparently not.
Fat Bastard was a reference to Dune. Meyers' movies are full of movie references.
I once was at this nice little restaurant, they had a singer, I thought it was Mike Meyers at another table with a bunch of Canadian looking suits. The guy was dressed like Wayne from the movie. He requested Hallelujah, from Shrek.
Dylan is conservative in a lot of ways. Liberals used to believe in human freedom and mock the very conformity that they now demand.
That Meyers thing was like when I was sitting next to Greg Gutfeld in a Manhattan coffee shop and he was reading his own column.
"Did you know that Mitt Romney bought his tuxedo for the Met Gala on Amazon?"
Trump would have gone as Pope.
It is generally true that non-conformists despise only the current conformity.
Trump would have gone as Pope.
Nah. Too many women did that.
Trump goes as himself.
Trump would have gone as Pope.
Much too obvious. Given his background, I'd expect something more radical and provocative, like Martin Luther. (Actually, he'd go as Ulrich Zwingli, but the crowd wouldn't get it.)
I think Dylan really believed in human freedom, even if he did write a song that involved admiration for Castro's beard. He never directly admired it, which would have ruined Dylan for me, but he made fun of the guy who was offended by his saying he admired it. It was all a ruse to get fired, in the story of the song.
Hey, Althouse, blog this -- Bravo on Rose at NYRoB:
"Why did I even once put up with it? Or as Daphne Merkin bluntly asked in The New York Times of the #MeToo movement: “What happened to women’s agency?” I’ve turned over this question in my mind so constantly in the last six months, I feel I could write a book on the subject. But perhaps most significant—even more significant than my career aspirations and my dependence on a paycheck—was that Rose’s advances occurred in a professional environment of madness, anxiety, and utter exhaustion. One can function in such an atmosphere for only so long before ceasing to operate at one’s best, most lucid self."
So she answers the Merkin question: agency? what agency?
"Rose’s lechery didn’t sideswipe me; it swallowed me, slowly, and despite my best efforts. The more I struggled to manage the situation, the deeper I sank. The only option was to leave my job, with an immense sense of shame. Were I a better woman, I told myself, I would have found a way to fight back. Instead, I had exhausted myself with pleasantries and smiled attentively while doing my best to avoid finding myself alone with him."
So she answers the Merkin question: agency? what agency?.
"With a decade’s perspective and a better understanding of what it means to engage with a dangerously outsized ego, I can forgive myself.'
So she answers the Merkin question . . .
"I spoke out against Charlie Rose because the Trump presidency and Trump’s open secrets made me more uncomfortable than did the idea of going public about what had been my life’s most deeply buried moments of shame."
Trump and his "open secrets" (huh?) made her "more uncomfortable"! Trump gave her agency!
And people wonder why prog men target prog chicks.
The Pope would have gone as Trump.
From CBS:
"Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is now on President Trump's legal team, told CBS News correspondent Paula Reid Monday that special counsel Robert Mueller's office has rejected proposals to allow Mr. Trump to answer questions from investigators in writing."
"The Pope would have gone as Trump."
Nah. He'd be Luther.
WWTD?
Not Luther, surely, and Zwingli, who dat? Something non-obvious, Trump?
Anyway, the interesting question is what Melania would have been. I'm guessing Mother Teresa.
If this keeps up, Pluto might be reclassified as a planet.
Trump, Making Pluto Great Again!
"Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is now on President Trump's legal team, told CBS News correspondent Paula Reid Monday that special counsel Robert Mueller's office has rejected proposals to allow Mr. Trump to answer questions from investigators in writing."
That would defeat the purpose of getting him a a perjury charge, no?
I don't think Mueller has anything, and therefore needs Trump to either walk into a charge or decline to be interviewed so Mueller can say his investigation couldn't be properly completed.
Those are the only two outcomes where Mueller's personal reputation doesn't go to zero, given the time, and absolute resources of the deep state.
It's just some boring man who was on TV saying something completely boring. I didn't draw that in the café.
Billy Joel?
"Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is now on President Trump's legal team, told CBS News correspondent Paula Reid Monday that special counsel Robert Mueller's office has rejected proposals to allow Mr. Trump to answer questions from investigators in writing."
Duh.
You cannot manufacture a process crime and/or create out of whole cloth an obstruction or lying to investigators charge if you don't speak to the individual personally.
Mueller and his team of dem hacks along with Rosenstein, given what they themselves have to hide about LLR Chuck's leftist allies shenanigans, HAS to go all the way here.
Which means a subpoena which will be fought all the way to the supreme court.
It is already written in stone. And there will be no Hillary or Bill Clinton "treatment" given here.
This is a fight to the death between Trump and a corrupt deep state which has so far seen its efforts to manufacture a crime to take down Trump fail.
That fellow looks like how I imagine Ignatius J. Reilly. I'm reading A Confederacy of Dunces.
"I spoke out against Charlie Rose because"
Apologies for continuing my own little thread.
But I wonder: how many #MeToo complainants had male partners, nay, husbands at the time of the alleged abuse? Did the prog hunters hit on single prog chicks only, or mainly?
I think Brad Pitt stood up to Weinstein. Any other profiles in male courage?
But methinks (sorry), old-fashionedly and patriarchically, that solid male commitment still provided and provides some protection.
Nice drawing!
Seeing as its a cafe -
A charming performance I found a few days ago -
Patricia Janeckova - Les oiseaux dans la charmille - Offenbach
The soprano Patricia Janeckova, doing the famous "doll" scene from Offenbach's "Tales of Hoffmann". The original story by Hoffmann, of a man who falls in love with an automaton, is probably the source of the entire concept of falling in love with a robot/android, an update of Pygmalion. The latest iterations of course are in "Westworld", where the whole thing is rather less charming.
Offenbach's scene is also stolen for use in the Disney "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", not so successfully.
Miss Janeckova, 19 or 20 years old, should have a fine career ahead of her.

I haven't even seen the movie.
Just a fun quote. ^_^
Anyway, the interesting question is what Melania would have been. I'm guessing Mother Teresa.
Absolutely never! You got the right name but the wrong saint. She'd go as St. Teresa of Avila, she of the famous ecstacy. Teresa of Avila was hot. Mother Teresa was a shriveled old crone lone before she was old.
If not Teresa she'd go as Saint Monica. LIke Monica, her husband has strayed occasionally (Stormy et al?) and she takes good care of her son (Barron/Augustine).
"Teresa of Avila was hot. "
Teresa of Avila was a nerd. In the right way.
She was a fan of chivalric fantasy.
She would have done Ren Faire.
April Ryan, White House correspondent, American Urban Radio:
"This is a first lady (Melania Trump) who is not culturally American ..."
Yep, she said that.
She would have done Ren Faire.
Some SCA chicks are hot. A few. Those tightly laced bodices...
What one must do is get them lubed with sufficient mead so that they STFU with the "prithee, good knight" jazz.
I dated an SCA chick briefly. She took in my kilt a few inches (moved the buckles, actually). She was red-hot for feminism by her conversation, but when she took me home to her place I noted she had a bookshelf loaded with Gor novels.
Regarding Mueller rejecting written answers from Trump:
If Mueller was seeking the truth it would not matter how his questions were answered. Clearly, written answers give Trump the opportunity to respond carefully and in a consistent fashion. But written answers prevent Mueller from trapping Trump in a "gotcha" situation.
It is now clear that Mueller is looking to set up Trump for a petty perjury indictment for lying to a Fed. His mission is to create a so called "process crime". We are looking at gutter level partisan politics. This has bad optics for the Feds.
Beautiful women look especially good in nun's habit. For example. Ingrid Bergman in Going My Way, Deborah Kerr in Black Narcissus, Loretta Young in Come to the Stable, and Audrey Hepburn in The Nuns Story. Melania would be no exception.
"I noted she had a bookshelf loaded with Gor novels."
See, Schneiderman just didn't do enough reconnaissance.
There is a woman for every man. Maybe even Schneiderman.
" For example. Ingrid Bergman in Going My Way, "
Bergman would have looked good in anything, so this is not a useful example.
Bergman would have looked good in anything
So would the others.
I couldnt help but notice that LLR Chuck has had absolutely nothing to say about Schneiderman and, even more amusingly, has nothing to say about Schneiderman threatening to "tap your phones" to his victims.
LLR Chuck found the use of that term utterly beyond the pale in every posdible way when Trump used it.
LOL
Unexpectedly.
You know, I think the folks who drove our Foreign Policy car into the ditch ought to just sit in the back and shut up now.
A "magnificent" President once told us something like that.
WSJ is chumming the waters again:
11 Burning Questions About Men’s Shorts, Answered
https://www.wsj.com/articles/11-burning-questions-about-mens-shorts-answered-1525793428
3. Can I wear cargo shorts without looking like a 16-year-old?
9. Is the ’shorts suit’ really a thing?
One of these days I'm gonna get me one a them Miss Janeckova dolls! I hope they start making them so you don't hafta wind them up every 4 minutes. And of course I'll have her sing "Once Upon a Time in the West".
9. Is the ’shorts suit’ really a thing?
Jack Paar used to have a Bermuda Shorts Tuxedo.
Deborah Kerr was also a nun in "Heaven Knows Mr Allison.
That was the day when religious types were allowed in movies.
Has Schneiderman announced a large donation to an anti-NRA group yet?
FBI don't record interviews. Their recollections are optionally variable.
Hillary selected to replace Schniederman...developing..
Hillary selected to replace Schniederman...developing..
If that's true, it's hilarious. If it's a joke, it's not funny.
If Mueller won't allow Trump to answer questions in writing, then Trump needs to tell Mueller he'll only do an interview that is recorded with video and audio on live television. If Mueller refuses then Trump should tell him to go fuck himself.

I like that opera. Not like Garanca's "Carmen" though.
Leontyne Price was my ideal until Garanca.
