The "outside cake."

"Someone that attended the party brought in an outside cake for Donald Trump Jr.’s upcoming birthday and we are not sure who that was. Both Donald Trump Jr. and Ted Cruz took pictures with the cake and posted on social media outlets. We at Le Bilboquet feel betrayed and sad. Restaurant business is about creating a hospitable environment for all, a non-partisan, non-politicized, nondiscriminatory and respectful environment. The fact that guests decided to use our restaurant as a platform to promote, disrespect, and spread hatred goes against everything we stand for. On a personal note, I am French and my wife is Mexican. We both believe in universal values of love, respect and tolerance..... I am truly sorry that such distasteful events happened at our venue.... It reminds us that a divide still exists and that we have to keep promoting our core values...."

Writes Stephan Courseau, owner of Le Bilboquet, whence Don Jr. instagrammed:

Lots of cake politics lately. Why can't cakes just be about cake? Cake for cake's sake.

I don't know why an Obama cake spreads hatred. Yes, the image is distorted, but it looks like something that was made to be pro-Obama. I'm guessing it was presented to Don Jr. as a joke gift because it IS pro-Obama, and then Don Jr. just posed with his best effort at a goofy I-can-take-a-joke smile.

Yes. Cake is hate. But it's OK to legally compel bakers to make it for your wedding. But bringing in outside cake is hateful, particularly if you're last name is Trump and it's done as a stupid joke. The disrespect and hatred like spreads like frosting.

Wait, I thought cakes didn't qualify as speech, nor could the message on a cake count as an endorsement. How can a cake spread hate and a vile message, and yet a positive cake for a gay wedding doesn't say "I endorse this ceremony"?

I assume the answer is "Because shut up, bigot!", but I always hope for a surprise that never happens.

Ken B म्हणाले...

I suspect AA and some of you have missed a trick. He accused Trump Jr and Cruz of hatred and *only* them. He specified "guests". The outside cake was not from his "guests" (ie customers) but someone else who brought it in.

Q22 म्हणाले...

Would the restaurant owner feel compelled to apologize if a patron brought in a Trump cake as a jest? My guess is no.

Qwinn म्हणाले...

Oh wait, I remember now:

It is free speech if leftists approve of the message, and such speech can be compelled if necessary.

It is hate speech if leftists don't approve of the message, and such speech can be restricted if necessary.

He had to head off any attempt to shame, boycott, or attack his restaurant. He also had to point out that he's a foreigner, and that his wife is a foreigner of color -- much better than being Americans. He may have saved himself a broken window or two.

True, the restaurant wasn't readily identifiable in the pic, but you can't be too careful these days.

So why disparage them on social media after the fact just because they have a cake with Obama's picture on it. I see nothing hateful about the cake, not even disrespectful really. It's not a caricature picture of Obama, or any kind of racist tilt.

So, again, F you!

buwaya म्हणाले...

Ted and Don Jr. should probably do this in fact, make it a road show.

And if it were a double layer cake it would be like double racist. And like "Let them eat cake" would be like, you know, some racist metaphor or something. Do they even let a cake like that into a fancy restaurant? Did it have to ride over on the back of the bus? What if it is a red velvet cake? It boggles the mind.

Horrible! The worst experience we've ever had.
FOOD NOTHING SPECIAL and RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED!
Owner of the restaurant is very rude and discriminates against different ethnic groups .

The owner harasses customers and yells obscenities.
Customers and personnel alike were in shock of owners behavior, that evening.
Be careful, if the owner is in need of the table to seat other guests , he rudely throws you out.!!!! Shows no respect to women. A person such as him, has no business in dealing with customers . Please take that in consideration. He obviously is in need of anger management therapy.
He believes, nothing he can do or say , can hurt his business!
We never experienced such humiliation.
Shame on him !
