"TEN senators on Wednesday called on fellow Democrat Al Franken to resign, in a jaw-dropping avalanche..."

The 10 are: Gillibrand of New York, Hirono of Hawaii, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Patty Murray of Washington, Kamala Harris of California, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, and Joe Donnelly of Indiana.

Gillibrand started it with this Facebook post: "Senator Franken Should Step Aside." Excerpt:
While a lot of the media focus has been on high-profile cases with powerful leaders in politics, Hollywood, and the media business, we must recognize that this is happening every day to women everywhere, up and down the economic ladder....

While it’s true that [Franken's] behavior is not the same as the criminal conduct alleged against Roy Moore, or Harvey Weinstein, or President Trump, it is still unquestionably wrong, and should not be tolerated by those of us who are privileged to work in public service....

While Senator Franken is entitled to have the Ethics Committee conclude its review, I believe it would be better for our country if he sent a clear message that any kind of mistreatment of women in our society isn’t acceptable by stepping aside to let someone else serve.
The newest charges against Franken were reported this morning in Politico, in "Another woman says Franken tried to forcibly kiss her/The Minnesota senator is accused of making an unwanted sexual advance after a taping of his radio show in 2006. He denies the allegation":
[A former Democratic congressional aide] said Franken (D-Minn.) pursued her after her boss had left the studio. She said she was gathering her belongings to follow her boss out of the room. When she turned around, Franken was in her face. The former staffer ducked to avoid Franken’s lips. As she hastily left the room, she said, Franken told her: “It’s my right as an entertainer.”...
We'll never forget that Trump said "I just start kissing them... I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it." Here, we see Franken taking that arrogance far beyond what Trump said. If we assume for — the purpose of analysis‚ that the new allegation is true:

1. In place of a presumption of consent — "they let you do it" — Franken claims a right. He contends that because of his status as "an entertainer" he gets to do it whether she wants it or not.

2. Franken actually does it, even when confronted with active non-consent. Trump was only talking — outside of the earshot of any woman — about what he supposedly does. Who knows what he actually does? But even in the bragging context, the woman consents. Trump's joke is her susceptibility to star power.

3. Franken seems to get off on the forcible intrusion on the woman. Trump seems to delight in the fact that women want him. Those are entirely different sexual orientations! Franken is the one on the rapist spectrum.

4. Trump said you needed to be a star to have special access. Franken claimed access based on status as an "entertainer." That's more self-effacing and maybe he thought it was sort of cute and funny. But self-deprecation attached to forcing himself on the other person puts him in a very dark place, and makes me want to say those often-mocked feminist words: That's not funny.

That would be positive progress, but it is not a conclusion. The culture has been corrupted by the establishment of the Pro-Choice Church. It is well understood that selective-child (i.e. popular corruption) cannot be reformed with a mandate as was one-child (i.e. minority corruption). Also, that mindset (e.g. color diversity, political congruence) has progressive consequences where reform can only be sustained through a conservation of principles.

How many women, before The Reckoning, would have immediately friend-zoned a man who asked permission before kissing? I bet there are surveys, videos, and anecdotes that point to "no pussy for non-grabbers", for a large number, maybe a majority, of pussy-owners. How many would still act the same way?

Aside from that, I see no solid evidence against Franken. He won't directly defend himself, because, politically, he can't disagree with womankind. There are undoubtedly abusers among the rich and powerful, and a lot of innocent men being put in the same deplorable basket, as well as some who belong in a gray area. There are also a lot of women who use their sex appeal, feminine wiles, and sucking up (figuratively and literally) to get ahead in business, or just to get their hooks in a man who occupies a seat of wealth and power.

Unknown म्हणाले...

Look, if you really want to know if Inga is truly a defender of Women, seeker of justice against wicked men in the world, etc etc etc that she says she is, there's a really simple test.

There is a man, accused of having sex with underage girls. He's a prominent politician. Not only that, testimony was given in open court about it--not just press release accusations, but actual, under oath testimony; subject to cross examination. Surely a real defendant of women; someone who wants to see justice for all the abuse by powerful men... surely such a person would be calling for this powerful politician's head.

Inga is in this thread asking why we haven't condemned some Republican congressman no one has heard of. But what about this prominent Senator? It's Bob Menedez, senator from New Jersey.

Moore has only been accused of feeling up a 14 year old, and Inga is screaming to high heaven about him. Democrat Senator Bob Menedez did far, far more than just feel them up.

Defender of womankind Inga is radio silent about him. But she's on point about an obscure Republican!

The exquisite problem with Senator Menedez, see, is that he's in a state with a Republican governor, so Menedez cannot resign. The Democrats will go to the wall; no matter what he does. Right Inga? He gets to rape girls (statutory rape, if nothing else) and it's all right by the left.

Menendez's problems are well known. All of these proud Democrat senators calling for Franken to fall on his sword? They are on record as calling Menendez an "Honorable" man and so forth.

So tell us, Inga: Why are you, such a strong defender of oppressed women who are preyed on by powerful men, so silent about Menendez? You certainly know of the accusations made under oath; of far worse than anything Moore or Trump are accused of, by people not under oath. Yet you remain silent.

There's only a couple of possibilities: Either 1) you are a political hack above all else and Menendez as a Democrat senator is more important than some child rape or 2) they were hookers and brown kids, so they don't matter anyway. Or likely 3, it's a combination.

Either way, you are totally exposed as a complete political hack.

As much as I dislike Al Franken and as much as I find his conduct abhorrent, I do not believe Franken should resign. I think this sets a very bad precedent. It is both extra-judicial and faux-political.

It is extra-judicial because Franken has not been charged with a crime nor is he under investigation for such.

It is faux-political because there are two other political ways to remove Franken. One, the most important, is that he can (and should) be removed from office by the electorate in a general election.

Two, he can be removed under the Constitution, and with due process, by impeachment.

Instead, what is happening to Franken is vigilante justice. As much as I will enjoy the outcome, I hate the process.

Trump promised to sue all of the women who alleged sexual misconduct on his part. It was a lie; Trump hasn't done it.

I think that there are numerous valid comparisons to be made, between Franken and Trump. And Moore, and Weinstein, and Rose, and Conyers, and etc., etc. But to base the comparison on Franken's confession versus Trump's Access Hollywood tape is ridiculous if not obscene.

1. Nowhere does it say she won't vote for archetype Bill again given the same circumstances. Keep in mind that was against GHWB not a conservative absolutist. We didn't know he was a groper then (maybe he was only a future groper). I think we all wish we weren't in that position but what if we were?

I think I'd like the answer on this one but maybe that's just hope. She seems sincere in ways many others don't. I think most on the left would be different.

2. Does she give everyone the Hillary benefit of the doubt or only Democrats? Or only women? Or only female Democrats? Whichever group this includes does it refer to other faux pas like arguing arguing against Obamacare? Or is it limited to circumstances where the accused has accompanied the Democratic crowd rather than diverted from it.

I think I'd be disappointed to know this answer.

Reading all the commie-pinko lib comments on this post have changed my position on Roy Moore. I am now utilizing the guidelines established during the Clinton administration.

That is: allow Roy Moore to serve two (2) terms, then wait seventeen (17) years and vilify him. Fair enough?

Unsaid is famous powerful, even good-looking men attract groupies. some who don’t, or can’t after a dare by their friends, resist improper advances and end up flattered and empowered by them, they now have the man or woman by the short hairs, they can sue them, a win-win outcome. Remember how many women and a few men would jump three at a time into JFK’s bed after it had been warmed up by Marilyn Monroe, and even Joe senior and his Olympic class athlete driver, where they could be heard throughout the house by mom, Rose Kennedy, the boys and sister Rosemary (was she abused by her brothers when she was very young)? At least Sir Mick was quiet when he boasted, but not so his groupies. And given the boredom of today's media, even sports manipulating their watchers, politics brings us out of our doldrums, with its belly laughs high theater and Greek tragedy at its best.

Sheesh, (facepalm), I can't believe I am going to defend this creep. I do not like Franken pompous leftist that he is. But his behavior differs greatly from the coercion and threats of, say, Conyers, or, like Lauer, locking in gals and using the power of his position to intimidate them.

The mores of society have obviously changed dramatically. However, this witch hunt has developed a wild life of her own and is destroying some who, although rakish rogues, were still behaving within the norms of creepy behavior of the time. But not criminal behavior. And Franken seems to be one of those.

Yuck, it feels so terrible to defend him on so many levels.

I will not support a child molester who undressed and touched a 14 year old girl.

No one is, but there are people who will believe it prima facie.

"Trump had real-life accusers, too."

HAD is the key word. Just like Moore's accusers appeared only when they were useful, Trump's disappeared when they weren't.

Moore has been in AL politics for years, and not low profile. No accusers. Cui bono?

I have family in AL and their opinion is that this is obviously a put up job by the DC UniParty, and Vichy Mitchy gets an equal share of the blame.

You are woefully uninformed. Given that, I'm surprised you have the gall to offer an opinion.

Assertion based on accusations by known liars who have histories of false accusations and been caught making forgeries.

And you voted for an admitted rapist and his wife who intimidated and smeared his victims.

Thank you for admitting what we're all finding out to be true about the right: That you need and rely on the left to give you moral instruction.

However, you're learning the wrong lesson. There were no pedophilia accusations against Clinton and the vast majority of the country's (not just the left's) defense of him had to do with his consensual affair with the intern.

In the ongoing "Republican War on Women" Democrats continue laying -- and stepping on -- their own landmines.

The avalanche has nothing to do with Franken at all- it is all about the polls showing Moore is probably going to coast to victory in the special Alabama election. Today was the last ditch effort to take Moore down. If Minnesota had a Republican governor, it would have been some other Democratic senator who got outed and thrown under the bus today.

"It's striking that this post doesn't even engage with the dozen plus women who have made specific sexual harassment allegations against Trump. Franken's alleged actions are compared to Trump's description of his own actions, rather than Trump's alleged actions, which include actual pussy-grabbing and walking in on teenage beauty queens while they were changing."

It's called evidence beyond "she said". Do any of Trump's accusers have photographs?

Get back to us when we have a Representative who's caught red-somethinged in a House elevator with a male page and then re-elect him SEVEN times. Until then, Gerry Studds (D-Masshole) supporters can STFU.

All you have is forged yearbooks and uncheckable accusations.
