"Roy Moore accuser admits altering yearbook entry."

Why is she admitting this now?
[Beverly Young] Nelson will hold a news conference Friday at which her lawyer, Gloria Allred, said expert evidence would be presented that it was Moore’s signature.

“We’re going to present evidence that we think is important on the issue whether Roy Moore signed the yearbook,” Allred told ABC News.
It sounds like they went out and got their own expert — after refusing to use some neutral entity in a safeguarded process — and that person couldn't verify the whole thing. So they're admitting that part of it is fake, and they want us to accept that expert's view that the other part is real.

Adding the date and location to Moore’s inscription does not prove that the inscription by Moore is a forgery.

Yeah, pretty much.

Even R/V admitted he was wrong about something today. It makes me take his posts more seriously.

Try to imagine if the parties were reversed, and Republicans had tried to pass off the "added inscription" as written by a Democrat, and then it was proven not to have been, that Inga would be here not just saying that the Republican accusation was still credible, but that anyone who thought it proved otherwise or wasn't evidence of forgery was "loathsome".

Seriously, it's fun.

You have to look at all the evidence.

“Allred retained Georgia-based handwriting expert Arthur Anthony to assess the yearbook signature and cross-examine it with copies and originals of Moore’s signature on other documents. Anthony concluded that the signature is indeed Moore’s, Allred said at a news conference Friday afternoon in Atlanta, where she handed out Anthony’s report.

Nelson told ABC News on Friday that she later added the date (“12-22-77”) and location (“Olde Hickory House”) beneath Moore’s message and signature. But she insisted that Moore, who later became the chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, penned the note and his name.”

If any part of it is fake, then it isn't trustworthy as evidence and would be thrown out in a real court. I'm not a lawyer and even I know that. Of course, the only thing that matters on Tuesday is the court of public opinion. I'm no fan of Moore, but the alternative is even worse. Much like the last presidential election. When in doubt, vote against the Democrat.

Birches said...

If Nelson really was assaulted, Allred having her insist Moore wrote the whole thing fatally undermines her credibility.

Well yeah. This is the thing, someone who was really assaulted should stay as far away from Gloria Allred as possible. I was already inclined to disbelieve this women because of ol' Gloria. Now? Even worse.

I have been on the accused side of this issue for a long time, Democrat and Republican, until their story falls apart due to to conflicts with, you know, reality.

Inga was defending Bill Clinton just a short while ago, for God's sake. Doesn't bother her a bit that Democrats don't care abut Menendez. In fact, the real reason, I am betting, that they don't go after Menendez on this, is that Bill Clinton flew on the pedophiles plane many many times, and ditched his Secret Service detail at least six times. According to flight logs.

Oh yeah, and the new post presidency accusers who were 18 at the time and working on some other billionaire's private jet.

I would have voted against Trump had it been anybody but Hillary, but we had a Hobson's choice there, since Hillary was no choice at all.

For all the supposed belief by liberals that they're the ones with scientific knowledge and methods while conservatives are a bunch of knuckledraggers, they sure haven't figured out this internet thing yet.

I believe it was in blog comments here where a certified graphologist absolutely insisted the whole inscription was by Roy Moore, and any of us saying otherwise were wrong. I'll have look it up up and check- maybe he said he was certifiable and not certified... Right on the internet we have this: https://twitter.com/j_wizzles/status/933394003306958858 , a quick and easy to see analysis of the signature and inscription.

And the D.A. after his name- doesn't mean District Attorney. It's the initials of his assistant who initialed after rubber stamping his name. Us denizens of the internet knew this within 24 hours of this whole brouhaha erupting. How many people who rely on the MSM know this? And something I just noticed- there's a period after the "D" and the "A". That makes it even more obvious it's initials. "DA" for District Attorney" wouldn't have that middle period. Probably not the second one either.

The Dan Rather fiasco was an object lesson to liberals that they can't lie and get away with it anymore. Used to be there'd be a report on television, echoed by MSM newspapers and news magazines (remember when news magazines were actually important?) would be all people would know. Now, anything published is out on the internet where there really are layers of fact checkers. And if there's ANYTHING wrong with the evidence, internet denizens will know it toot suite. People who rely on MSM- not so much.

What do the readers of this blog know that MSM consumers don't? The initials, for one thing. That Judge Moore presided over the divorce of this particular accuser. Everything that rcocean said at 2:28 PM. And this copied from another blog's comments: "Several employees of the restaurant in 1977 also said that they don’t remember Young-Nelson working there. They also said that the restaurant had a policy of not hiring anyone under age 16 (Young-Nelson claimed to have started her employment there at age 15). The employees also said that the restaurant’s wait staff did not interact with or serve the counter customers, who were always waited on by either the bartender or the short-order cook. (Young-Nelson said she met Moore when he came in to eat at the counter). The employees also said that there was no vehicle exit from the back lot of the restaurant, as the restaurant’s back lot bordered the back yards of private homes. (Young-Nelson said she wasn’t concerned when Moore drove her into the restaurant’s back lot, because she knew there was an exit to the street from the back lot). The employees also said that the restaurant’s dumpsters were not kept in the back lot, which was too small, but were instead kept on the sides of the restaurants, and that it was impossible to park a car between them. (Young-Nelson claimed Moore had driven her to the dark and deserted back lot and parked his car between the dumpsters so as not to be seen). The employees also said that the restaurant had a porch and bright lights that extended all the way around the restaurant, so that the back of the restaurant was never dark and deserted as Young-Nelson claimed. The employees also said that they did not recall ever seeing Roy Moore in the restaurant.

A former regular customer of the restaurant in 1977, a deputy sheriff who knew Roy Moore in 1977 and said he would have recognized him, also said that he never saw Moore in the restaurant."

But none of this has been reported by the MSM. OTOH, the initial accusation was front page news. Slowly but surely the MSM is destroying their credibility. Comes the day they're going to cry "WOLF!" and the wolf is actually there, and no one will believe them.

Gloria Allred is representing the family of a Fargo woman who was murdered and had her baby taken from the womb. Not much of a legal issue here, so it must be about making money from being a victim of an awful crime.

From the Fargo Forum, Sept. 28, 2017:
FARGO – The family of Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind has retained high-profile California attorney Gloria Allred as its legal counsel and to deal with media requests.

The announcement that Allred had been retained was made on the Facebook page of LaFontaine-Greywind’s family. Allred later confirmed that she had been retained but declined to comment.

The Facebook post stated: “Any requests for appearances, interviews, statements, etc., should now be coordinated through Ms. Allred’s office. Please continue to respect the family’s privacy.”

Seriously. Who signs or has their yearbook signed in December?

The yearbook comes out in the spring. And as I remember it, there is a frenzy of getting the yearbook signed before school is out. Then that book is set aside waiting for next school year's edition. If the yearbook is published in the spring it would be for the 76/77 school year. Next publication would be for the school year 77/78 and that book would not have existed in December 1977.

That part of dragging around a yearbook for the summer, fall and winter to be signed, makes no sense to me.

The "encryption key" That was sent to him by somebody after the emails were already public. CNN fucked up the date. Read about it in the WaPo, if you like.

“CNN has issued a correction to a Friday morning exclusive about documents that Donald Trump Jr. received from Wikileaks after the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and NBC News contradicted its original story.

The new reports said that Trump Jr. and other campaign officials had received an email pointing them to the Wikileaks documents on the afternoon of Sept. 14 — after they had already been made public.

The original CNN report said Trump Jr. had received the email on Sept. 4, before Wikileaks had made the documents public.

It also noted that on the same day, Donald Trump Jr. began tweeting about Wikileaks and Hillary Clinton.

CNN ran a correction, changed its headline and removed a tweet from Trump Jr. from Sept. 4 in acknowledging the error.

“Correction: This story has been corrected to say the date of the email was September 14, 2016, not September 4, 2016. The story also changed the headline and removed a tweet from Donald Trump Jr., who posted a message about WikiLeaks on September 4, 2016,” the correction reads.“

Ok good. They corrected it. I posted by link before the correction.

The "trump bank records subpoena" which turned out to be a Manafort subpoena.

“Yes, Deutsche Bank did get a subpoena from Mueller

Donald Trump’s lawyer denies that US special counsel Robert Mueller subpoenaed Deutsche Bank. We stand by our story – which never said Mr. Trump’s own records were requested.

In a way, the hoopla that sprung up on Tuesday is rather surprising. For months, observers have been expecting FBI special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged links between Donald Trump and Russia, to subpoena Deutsche Bank for documents relating to the US president or his inner circle. On Tuesday, Handelsblatt reported the subpoena had in fact been issued weeks ago.”
https://global.handelsblatt.com/finance/yes-deutsche-bank-did-get-a-subpoena-from-mueller-861828

There were many subpoenas going out to Manafort today, correct. Has nothing to do with Duetsche Bank being subpoenaed weeks ago.

The expert has to be shown the rubber-stamped signature on the divorce papers from twenty years after the alleged incident--then be shown the yearbook. They are an exact match down to the DA that always appears when the assistant stamped the signature. Mr. Anthony needs to be sued back to the stone age and every case he ever offered expert testimony reopened and examined. He sells an opinion for $$$. If this was Little Green Footballs, you could create an animated GIF to show that the yearbook signature is the rubber stamp signature by having it morph back and forth.

For the 2 ink, the article explains how the artifact arises, and demonstrates it. The second pic I linked shows the effect with different conditions taking place within words and letters in that photo. It cannot be two inks, it must be an artifact. Color photos taken straight on, when the aberration will not occur, have been published and show one color ink. So that is refuted. Not just debunked, refuted, disproved, shattered, destroyed.

As for voting, I proved there is no evidence she did not vote. It is improper to call her a liar without such evidence. That is a debunking.

Why should I explain the D A Tim?

It is irrelevant to the question whether she voted isn’t it? Or do you disagree?

It is in the same ink as the Moore isn’t it? Or do you disagree?

It's simple enough. I am not asserting the signature is real. I am not asserting it is fake. I am not asserting the question is unimportant. I am asserting that the claim there are two colors of ink is false, and that the claim she lied about voting is unevidenced.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

This guy sounds a lot more reasonable than you folks.

“UPDATE BY PATTERICO: Allow me to quote myself from November 30:

As to the claim that the yearbook was “doctored”: there is handwriting under Moore’s signature denoting the place and time of the signature, which appears (to me, at least) to be different handwriting. Whether that means it has been “doctored” is a matter of interpretation, and depends largely on whether Nelson has actively claimed that all the handwriting was Moore’s, including the inscription about the location and date. (I don’t think she has, but I am open to correction by someone armed with proof.)

Emphasis added. I would add that even if Nelson did not explicitly claim this, it showed a lack of forthrightness on her part and on the part of Allred not to say this up front.

This leaves the issue of the ink. I have seen photos from the press conference that make it look like Moore’s last name and the date and location are in bluish ink while the rest is in black. Other photos seem to show all the writing in black. If the former is accurate then it is possible the last name was added as well as the date and location — and that (if true) could be properly called a forgery. But I am not clear on the ink issue.

Meanwhile John Nolte at Breitbart alleged an admission of a forgery, which was false — and Fox News made a similar claim that was since retracted. There is a lot of irresponsible commentary going around.

In the comments at Patterico:

“It does undermine her credibility.”

“Not necessarily at all.

Autograph collectors can tell you that as a collectible ‘document’ – adding the notation by another hand may depreciate the value of the piece as a whole. But the personal notation of where/when it was signed as a point of reference for the owner does nothing to refute the validity of the signature and inscription itself- which can only be verifies by reviewing the actual specimen and not scanned/digitized imagery on the web. For instance, if memory serves, a way back in the day some of the original founding documents in the National Archives had notations added by unknown handwriting on the reverse as reference for archivists simply noting they were the original documents. Today that wouldn’t be done– but in the horse-and-buggy days of dusty libraries and stacks of old documents it would not be an issue at all.”

Meaning the Bitch didn't admit it. Yet. Not meaning that it is Moore's signature, signed by Moore.

There is too much nit-picking here.
This is a situation altogether much too complex for obsessing on details.
One needs to climb into low-earth orbit and get the big picture.

From there, looking at macro-scale data, Trump (and Moore!) looks like less a manipulator of details than a symptom of a phenomenon. He is also a totem, a talisman, a thing that prompts independent actions much more than he acts.

I think the best analogy is he is a lucky charm, a mascot, an image of Ganesh or a lucky Buddha or a Japanese Lucky Cat.

Moore too is less the man than the symbol, a bonny blue flag at the head of the column.

The phenomenon is complex, has many faces, requires enormous perspective to grok. Maybe from the orbit of Mars. Maybe one needs the help of Heinleins Martians, or Bradbury's Old Ones.

If she did vote, and didn't get off of the inactive voters list by re-registering and voting, there was an irregularity, Ken B. Occam's razor says! Unlikely.

Nutty assumption:

She claimed to have voted for Trump. She was on the "inactive voters" list. Seems a lot more like a deduction, or a strongly supported inference. It is not impossible that there was an irregularity, and she was allowed to vote without re-registering, or that her re-registration was lost. It just isn't all that likely.

Patterico's entire take is based on his incorrect assumption that the entire signature was not presented as being entirely written by Moore. It most certainly was. Inga helpfully illustrated this when she strenuously insisted that that was part of his signature at the time.

I'm sure someone will shortly correct Patterico on that point, at which point he'll have to concede that it's clearly a forgery by any definiton of "forgery" ever deployed prior to Dec. 8, 2017. I'm looking forward to that update, where Inga will most assuredly retract her opinion of him as "reasonable" and, as predicted, he'll suddenly be Literal Hitler again.

The problem with attacking symbols is that it just makes the people who take them as symbols angry. It is bad strategy. The enemy is the mass of the enemy, not their banners.

There are some idiots (and I say this kindly, we can always be idiots sometimes) at the NYT and the like, that are sort of realizing this, that their real problem isn't with Trump or Moore or whomever, but with the people who support Trump or Moore. They are becoming a little less stupid.

There was an article yesterday the gist of which was that the writer now hated Alabamans. That is indeed getting closer to the problem. What needs to follow is a bit of reflection as to WHY he hates Alabamans, a bit of self-knowledge. And, of course, the next step is to understand Alabamans.

"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle."

I saw something akin to the following written by an Australian in Australia, whether on a blog or in a comment or a newspaper I can’t recall. But if white privilege is a real thing, why is it that people try so hard to have themselves declared something else? Same applies here in the good old USA.

If I could find any black or Hispanic or Native American in my ancestry, with their grades, all of my kids would have received a free ride to college to increase diversity. Alas, they’re all white Christians, and are therefore not diverse. Their ancestry includes Bavarian, Dutch, Italian, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Bohemian, English, Cornish, and French. But nothing that makes them diverse…

So the other way to get on that list is to have moved, and not returned the postcard. I don't know if she moved or not.

I'm coming to this a little late, but I think you're all missing something important, that you would know if you'd followed my advice to follow Thomas Wictor's Twitter feed (@ThomasWictor). He demonstrates with examples that all the ink is black, not blue, but that the ink does change between Roy (or more likely Ray) and Moore. Some blacks look blue in certain lights, and one of the color pictures shows the second half doing exactly that. He shows pictures of a WW1 German fighter pilot's plane (he writes military history books) that looks black and gray in some pictures, all black in others, and explains that it was in fact all black, but different parts were painted with different batches of black paint, one much cheaper than the other, at different times. And that's exactly what happened to the yearbook. It had an old black-ink inscription to someone named Roy or Ray - hard to tell which - and either the owner or Gloria Allred or some third person used what they thought was similar black ink to add everything from "Moore" on in a not-entirely-competent imitation of Roy Moore's actual signature. Unfortunately, the newer ink was either a different chemical formula, or just fresher, or both, and thus looks blue under certain lights, while the old inscription does not. The evidence is in fact damning that the two parts of the inscription were not done at the same time with the same ink, and that the change occurs between "Roy" or "Ray" and "Moore", which is even more damning.

Wictor has far more evidence as to why Moore (whom he disagrees with on most issues) is innocent of the charges made. Unfortunately for those wanting to get up to speed quickly, he's something of a hermit and tweets 100+ times a day. But he's far more worth reading than most Tweeters - or quite a few commenters here, for that matter.

BL, I'm trying hard to visualize exactly what he means. Is there a video or diagram illustrating it?

Buwaya has a good read but in our familiar Western framework I would use a couple of our own cliches:

*Follow-through. Commit.

-That is, don't give love taps, don't fan the air, act to have effect. Put your back into it. Act with intent and the totalized, synchronized potential of your body, mind and spirit. You're not swinging your sword to block the other guy's sword, you're swinging to kill that guy. Don't fool around.

*Focus. When you're up to your ass in alligators it's hard to remember that your original objective was to drain the swamp.

-That is, there may be all kinds of maneuvering, fancy footwork, katas, feints, bluffs, but don't sit there admiring yourself, and above all, don't let the opponent control your actions. Know what you came to do and do it. Do what is necessary to achieve your goal. Don't do what is unnecessary to achieve your goal.

Inga never posts about the football, the cafes, the shorts man saving the wild bunny, the Dec. 7 anniversary (BTW my building did not fly the Japanese flag Thursday, as they usually do because major Japanese concerns reside there and the Nips may actually own the building), or any casual human thing. She never posts except to defend her "friends" and, predominantly, to attack her foes. In the words of Jim Morrison:

She's the queen of cool
And she's the lady who waits
Since her mind left school
It never hesitates
She won't waste time
On elementary talk

[Chorus]
Cause she's a twentieth century fox...

You can't get her off the subject, let alone to agree to disagree, or to see the good points of someone she hates. If something turns 'not necessarily to her cause's advantage,' she clears out and looks for the next opportunity to cut. Little normal human interaction for her, she came to win. Whatever that means to her.

Inga, my dear, I hope you're not hurt or insulted; this is praise.
