"Please tell me when we can expect to read your denunciation of the speech police and this McCarthyite chapter in Wisconsin’s history."

David Blaska calls out the editors of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Wisconsin State Journal about their coverage of the Wisconsin DOJ's report on the John Doe Investigation.

Yes. This era of Pro-Choice and its direct and collateral damage must be addressed.

Oh, and communists colluding with the American left in order to disrupt the government and disenfranchise Americans, too.

A Wisconsin confrontation, because it starts with Please. The orange haired boy from NYC would have torn them a new one. And that's what he will do in the Pensacola Rally, shortly.

Was kind of expecting one tomorrow. We'll see.

It would be a hoot to see Scott Walker landing in Marine One at the White House lawn for a weekend "cheese summit" with President Trump, with the DOJ report in hand and a bunch of aides in tow with hand trucks loaded with file boxes. The imagery would speak volumes about what has happened in Wisconsin and what is happening at this time in DC.

They are the same caste as the perpetrators, so they will not, really, nor can you expect sincerity should they appear to try.

Interestingly, my wife just demanded to know what this inside Wisconsin politics was all about. She totally missed the days of Union mobs in Madison, runaway Legislators and a recall election. It took time to explain it all. She became mildly interested when I told her about about the Hans Christian Heg Statue's vandalism issue and who he was, since she is a Battle of Chickamauga buff.

Even conservatives besmirch McCarthy's name. His good name needs to be rehabilitated.

Char Char Binks, Esq. said...

Wait, the Heg statue was vandalized!? I can't find any news about that at all.

A sense of proportion would suffice. Also, contemporary terminology and concepts. There is a good reason that people desperately cling to the past in order to avoid the present.

Bitter clingers? No. Opportunistic singers? Yes.

It's a time to destroy brands and refresh awareness. Keep it logical.

I'm convinced , as a non-Wisconsin resident and long time Althouse reader, all of the left shit around Scott Walker's, attempted recall etc was a key factor in Trumps election.

My Dad, who was a Zeidlerite Milwaukee Socialist at the time, explained to me why he voted for McCarthy in 1946. McCarthy, for all people knew, was a War Hero, while his opponent had ties to the Chicago machine.

It appears that David Blaska did not completely escape Cap Times liberalism, since he certainly is old enough to have looked into the background and good works of Tail Gunner Joe, Appleton's favorite son, who admittedly drank and gambled a bit in best tradition of good Irishmen everywhere. But "McCarthyite" was used in a negative context and that is not the image that native Wisconsin conservatives construct when remembering their heroes.

Wait, the Heg statue was vandalized!?

The only thing I remember was Meade shaming some protesters for hanging protest signs on the statue. Or something like that.

Char Char Binks, Esq. said...

Joseph, John and Robert Kennedy were fans and friends of McCarthy, so his appeal was not at all limited to conservatives. His name was later misappropriated to promote an "ism" that was more like so-called McCarthyism than the real McCoy.

Go Blaska,
(yawn)
How about calling up (aggresively Nermal) Walker and kicking his ass into gear on this?

Fascist thugs vandalized the plinth of the Heg statue with anti-Walker slogans using dry-erase markers. Meade took the time and effort to clean up the mess they created. I doubt he shamed the culprits, but he did frustrate them.

I remember watching the live coverage of the protests almost daily. Jeez, seems like so long ago now.

"It can't happen here."

Sure it can't. At least we can still get redress when it does happen here, how long before that is taken away from us as well?

Alan Markus is referencing that brave warrior Walker.
Seen him lately?
He's let his associates take hit after hit..

walter said...

I appreciate his economic efforts..but he has turned away from the investigatory hell he triggered.

McCarthy might have been a blowhard and a glory hound, and apparently rather unpleasant.....but he was right. The Communists were infiltrating and undermining our government. In fact, being right was his biggest sin.

As I alluded to a few nights ago, some of the worst offenses seem to have come out of the Milwaukee County DA's office where John Chisholm still presides. Accounts of his colleagues displaying the blue fist signs in the offices and on their lawns sounds awfully familiar to the shenanigans going on in the Mueller investigation.

M D Kittle at watchdog.org did an excellent job detailing every dirty aspect of this shameful activity in his Wisconsins Secret War series.

The Milwaukee paper, now just a failing arm of Gannett, never provided anything but biased reports which always made it seem they were hoping to see Walker arrested.
Despicable people these thugs.

Tcrosse: mccarthy actually had a pretty good war record. He was in intelligence in a safe ground job. He volunteered to fly 12 combat missions and was shot at. The problem is that he may have exaggerated his war record. As has pretty muchevery serviceman through history. The difference between a war story and a fairy tale? One starts "o ce upon a time."

CharChar: as you note, kennedys were huge mccarthy fans. Kathleen Kennedy, recently Governor of Maryland was his goddaughter. St Jack was one of the few Senators not to vote for mccarthys censure.

He gets blamed for all sorts of things like the Hollywood 10/blacklist, loyalty oath, mccarthy Act making communism illegal and more.

It is way past time to start pushing back against the pejorative use of his name.

Walker's, attempted recall etc was a key factor in Trumps election.

At least in Wisconsin, certainly. Nothing like a competing interest to mitigate the risk of people running amuck, again, and again, and again.

I lived in northern Wisconsin in 1949, 1950, and 1951. I was 4, 5, and 6 years old. I found the people rather dictatorial. Maybe it was just my teachers and my father's family.

Luckily an American Indian woman who lived near my home was always on my side. She was a great ally. Even stray dogs were scared of her.

In those days I knew the names of only one politician in Wisconsin -- Joe McCarthy. I didn't hear anything negative about him until I moved to New York City.

When newspapers make a comeback, the Journal Sentinel will admit it disregarded an atrocity against free speech. Or when the dinosaurs return - but wait - the dinosaurs actually might come back with DNA manipulation. The newspapers - no.

Nope, one of the assholes protesting paraphrased the Communist Manifesto and wrote "workers of the world unite" in chalk...purple if I remember correctly. Meade got a bucket of water and a brush and "erased it" and then shamed a couple of knuckleheads who watched him do it.

The MJS isn't going to apologize...they were part of it. The reported every fucking leak like it was a fact. Daniel Bice was the main culprit. That little shit should be put up against the wall with Schmitz, Chisholm, and the fucker from the GAB and shot.

320Busdriver said...

I wonder why Schimel spared Chisholm of the contempt referral?

That Shane Falk is an exceptionally loathesome cretin. He should be disbarred. Then shot.

How is it possible for Milwaukee County to have elected David Clarke Sheriff and John Chisolm D.A.? That's just...schizophrenic.

He then proceeded to climb the plinth and remove the posters and paper the knuckleheads put up there. The guys like some kind of libertarian ninja.
Good choice Althouse.

From shimels report

"This report also describes how DOJ investigators, in searching for
the leaked documents, discovered what this report calls “John Doe III,” a previously
unknown and secret investigation into a broad range of Wisconsin Republicans. John
Doe III reached far beyond John Doe II’s original (and unsubstantiated) allegation
centering on unlawful “coordination” during Governor Walker’s 2010 election and
2012 recall election. As explained more thoroughly below, this secret investigation collected hundreds of thousands of private emails from dozens of Wisconsin
Republicans (and at least two national conservative leaders, Ed Gillespie and
Leonard Leo). In searching for the leaked documents and the leaker, DOJ
investigators found over 500,000 of these John Doe III emails in the basement of the
former GAB in two unsecured boxes labeled “Shane Falk.” Moreover, for reasons that
perhaps may never be fully explained, GAB obtained and then held thousands of
private emails from Wisconsin Republicans in several folders on their servers marked
“Opposition Research.”

These jackwagons need to pay for this shit!!

About old Tailgunner Joe McCarthy, his recklessness hurt the anti-communist cause. I remind my liberal-progressive-socialist acquaintances that just because he couldn't shoot straight, doesn't mean there weren't any squirrels in the woods. Bothers me every time the Hollywood Ten and their ilk are lionized as heroes. Just imagine if a nest of Nazis had been found in Hollywood. At best, they were useful idiots to the cause. And yes, the Christian Heg statue was vandalized during the Democrat(ic) intifada.

Birkel said...

Rusty,

I prefer Leftist Fascism because the idea that fascism is "on the right" is patent nonsense.

Stalin was obviously "of the Left" and does not help recapture the language.

Regarding Chisholm

"GAB board members at
the time were Judges David Deininger, Gordon Myse, Michael J. Brennan, Thomas
Barland, Thomas Cane, and Gerald Nichol. GAB Board members and DA Chisholm
were kept advised of the investigation and reviewed documents that had been filed
with the court, but neither the GAB Board nor DA Chisholm had possession of or
access to the majority of John Doe II documents that were leaked to The Guardian.

Since when is hanging a sign on a statue, or writing with chalk on the plinth (I had to look that one up) vandalism? I wouldn't put it past those progfascists, and we may yet see the rise of @HegMustFall, but that protest happened before the statue hysteria started.

Another thing, McCarthy had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HOLLYWOOD TEN, nor did he, or any other senator, ever have a HOUSE committee related to ANY activities, Un-American or not. That should go without saying, but I've heard talk of Joe McC's HUAC, and have even seen it printed in books, books that actually had EDITORS, believe it or not.
