"While not at all presidential I must point out that the Sloppy Michael Moore Show on Broadway was a TOTAL BOMB and was forced to close. Sad!"

A classic Trump tweet.

Some people — including me — find this hilarious, especially the "While not at all presidential," but some — I'm sure — are flummoxed. If it's not at all presidential, why the hell are you saying it?! That's so wrong.

But there's value in "a little bit of wrongness," as we discussed here.

Brilliant. He is, simultaneously, showing a speck of self-awareness, and also mocking those who tag him as "unpresidential"

Brilliant tweet - making fun of the "unpresidential" crowd, mocking the extremely deserving Michael Moore, self-deprecating, showing very sharp wit.

Is "presi" the tag used for tweets that are almost presidential but not quite unpresidential.

Obama's snide comments were wrong in the wrong way. I like Trumps direct style better. It's campy.

He knew that would be the claim, he anticipated the reaction of the usual suspects. Which is a good example of the difference in the words anticipate and expect, Trump expected that reaction and took action (anticipated) to ensure people knew it.

Manafort? The guy who got let go, worked for Podesta and had been investigated since before Trump announced? That's the collusion? We spent millions to finish an investigation the FBI was already done?

Are there charges for the Podesta group too who also failed the same disclosures but for larger amounts?

The "un-presidential" comment opens space to speak freely. It's a pretty common ploy. Once people type you as a "character", you have considerably more latitude to say inflammatory things. It does require a certain degree of both finesse and indifference to start creating that space.

I'd prefer not to need a president fighting the culture war via tweet. But in the absence of other effective and vigorous fighters, I'll take it.

Just as long as he also stymies the Mueller persecutions by pardoning people.

That's the harshest criticism someone can get on Twitter, IMO.

Martin म्हणाले...

I think the "Not at all presidential" is a hilarious poke at all those who criticize him for not being "presidential" in style, as a way of not engaging him on substance, where he is often more right than they are, but even more often in tune with the voters.

I write a someone who often does a face-palm over his tweets and statements-- not b/c they aren't "presidential," but b/c I think they are tactical mistakes. Honestly, though, he often proves me wrong, and I have tried to cultivate more a "wait and see" attitude (not that my opinion matters, anyway)

OGWiseman म्हणाले...

What bothers me about this isn't that it's not Presidential, that's trivial. I wish more Presidents did things that were so. Let's demystify all our leaders as much as possible.

What bothers me is that it's just wrong, like wrong on the facts, as usual. Yes, Michael Moore is a trivial sideshow and it doesn't matter if Trump lies about him. I'm just so tired of the President lying about matters big and small. It's tiresome and lame.

Plus, are trollish jabs at political prigs really that funny anymore? Get some new material.

William म्हणाले...

I hope he's given a life time achievement award at this year's Academy Awards. Harvey Weinstein could present it to him. There could be some light hearted banter between them about how a slobby exterior can hide the true beauty of the soul within.

Trump's Twitter activities are just a way to control his enemies' OODA loops. The more they focus on the trivialities of his Twitter presence, the less they're focusing on stuff that actually matters.

Trump has had the ability to push the left's buttons from the start, it's a big part of why he won the election.
