Scaramucci on the Colbert Show.

Worth a watch:

Most interesting thing: He comes right out and calls Steve Bannon a leaker and says if it were up to him Bannon would be gone.

Colbert is kind of annoying for 2 reasons: 1. He's straining too hard to get Scaramucci to do what makes comedians love him while at the same time trying to step on all of Scaramucci's jokes and claim all punchlines for himself, and 2. The audience over-screams with laughter any time Colbert gets off any kind of line, which really spoils the experience for me, watching at home. I want to decide what's funny, not have a bunch of sycophants continually informing me which of 2 men in a man-to-man interview they're rooting for.

I liked the way the band played the "Scaramouche, Scaramouche" section of "Bohemian Rhapsody" as Scaramucci walked on. The song choice is the complete opposite of surprising but I liked the way they played it. Just a cool variation on an old theme.

Oh, wait. There's a Part 2, after the break...

ADDED: Scaramucci doesn't know if Bannon is a white supremacist, but he doesn't like Bannon's toleration of white supremacists.

I liked Colbert, say the Kennedy School of Goverment visit, in that he seemed to expose the idiocy of the left through their touchy spots.

That he thought he was ridiculing the right by being over the top rightist didn't come through at all.

The imposition on the left was the comic element.

Trump is good to be rid of this guy.

The obvious answer to Colbert's persistent question was that for Trump to decry the views expressed by the permitted demonstrators was to carry water for the media narrative that they were exclusively responsible for the violence.

Trump later decried their views based on his personal opposition to those views, not as it relates to the genesis of the violence, which had many causes, including the in pari delicto of the two warring factions and the deliberate indifference of the local political establishment.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

The issue du jour is control over the White Guilt used to swing white voters for 60 years.

The players all manipulate using that tool and want that tool to keep its political clout. Bannon, like Breitbart did it, uses a confrontation method to expose the players use of actors and Hollywood scripts. That makes Bannon into the Drug Sniffing Dog in the White House.Every player wants to see him eliminated ASAP.

Democrats need to be told if they can laugh or not. They certainly don't want to laugh at something and then find out it's non-PC.

Remember when the audience cheered when Colbert told them Trump fired Comey? They hadn't yet been instructed that it was a bad thing to do because everything Trump does is bad. Colbert was pained by their reaction.

Some people like fame, even more than money or power. Scaramucci is good looking and self confident enough to think that he can come out ahead in a sit down with Colbert. Maybe Scaramucci got what he wanted out of his time in the White House. He's now a celebrity.......If Scaramucci was telling that reporter all those things in what he thought was an off the record context, wasn't he in fact leaking information to that reporter.

Insufficient denunciation of enemies of the Party--everything old is new again.

Solzhenitsyn in The Gulag Archipelago:

A district Party conference was under way in Moscow Province. It was presided over by a new secretary of the District Party Committee, replacing one recently arrested. At the conclusion of the conference, a tribute to Comrade Stalin was called for. Of course, everyone stood up (just as everyone had leaped to his feet during the conference at every mention of his name). The small hall echoed with “stormy applause, rising to an ovation.” For three minutes, four minutes, five minutes, the “stormy applause, rising to an ovation” continued. But palms were getting sore and raised arms were already aching. And the older people were panting from exhaustion. It was becoming insufferably silly even to those who really adored Stalin. However, who would dare be the first to stop? The secretary of the District Party Committee could have done it. He was standing on the platform, and it was he who had just called for the ovation. But he was a newcomer. He had taken the place of a man who’d been arrested. He was afraid! After all, NKVD men were standing in the hall applauding and watching to see who quit first! And in that obscure, small hall, unknown to the Leader, the applause went on—six, seven, eight minutes! They were done for! Their goose was cooked! They couldn’t stop now till they collapsed with heart attacks! At the rear of the hall, which was crowded, they could of course cheat a bit, clap less frequently, less vigorously, not so eagerly—but up there with the presidium where everyone could see them? The director of the local paper factory, an independent and strong-minded man, stood with the presidium. Aware of all the falsity and all the impossibility of the situation, he still kept on applauding! Nine minutes! Ten! In anguish he watched the secretary of the District Party Committee, but the latter dared not stop. Insanity! To the last man! With make-believe enthusiasm on their faces, looking at each other with faint hope, the district leaders were just going to go on and on applauding till they fell where they stood, till they were carried out of the hall on stretchers! And even then those who were left would not falter. . . . Then after eleven minutes, the director of the paper factory assumed a businesslike expression and sat down in his seat. And, oh, a miracle took place! Where had the universal, uninhibited, indescribable enthusiasm gone? To a man, everyone else stopped dead and sat down. They had been saved! The squirrel had been smart enough to jump off his revolving wheel.

That, however, was how they discovered who the independent people were. And that was how they went about eliminating them. That same night the factory director was arrested. They easily pasted ten years on him on the pretext of something quite different. But after he had signed Form 206, the final document of the interrogation, his interrogator reminded him: “Don’t ever be the first to stop applauding!”

"BREAKING NEWS: South Korean leader says nuclear crisis must "absolutely be solved peacefully;" US military action requires Seoul's consent. (Reuters)"

-- This has nothing to do with this topic, but, since we're bringing it up. You do know that North Korea has conceded and withdrew the threat to bomb Guam, right? The situation was, for now, resolved peacefully.

Here's what Yahoo Finance has, which looks like the direct stream from Reuters, for context:

"South Korean President Moon Jae-in says North Korea could create conditions for dialogue by stopping additional nuclear and missile tests.

Moon in a speech Tuesday also said resolving the North Korean threat could begin with freezing its nuclear weapons program.

Tensions have increased as North Korea advanced toward being able to hit the mainland United States with a nuclear-armed missile. Its state media described in detail Tuesday its plans to launch missiles into waters near Guam. But it also reported that leader Kim Jong Un would watch U.S. conduct before giving his orders for the test. That appeared to signal a path to defuse the crisis.

Moon says that his government shares a view with Washington that the purpose of strong sanctions and pressure against North Korea is to draw Pyongyang to negotiations."

"The South Korean president says the North Korean nuclear crisis must "absolutely be solved peacefully" and there can be no U.S. military moves without South Korean consent.

Moon Jae-in, a liberal who favors engagement with the North, delivered a nationally televised speech Tuesday on the anniversary of the end of World War II and the Korean Peninsula's liberation from Japanese colonial rule.

North Korea has said its military presented leader Kim Jong Un with plans to launch missiles into waters near Guam. But its comments appeared to signal a path to defuse the crisis by saying Kim would watch U.S. conduct before giving his orders.

Moon said his South Korean government "will put everything on the line to prevent another war in the Korean Peninsula." He says the "North Korean nuclear program should absolutely be solved peacefully, and the (South Korean) government and the U.S. government don't have a different position on this.""

----

So, please stop chopping up quotes, taking them out of context and deliberately spinning them. Moon is saying exactly what Trump said: They don't want a war, and that North Korea should freeze its nuclear weapons and that the United States and South Korea are in agreement.

Good points. Also, amid the hubbub a lot of people missed that statement from China, which I think was absolutely key: If we preempt North Korea or try to remove KJU, they will take it as a personal matter. And if North Korea initiates hostilities with us, they're on their own.

The first half was known and obvious and a big part of why we proceed carefully. The second is new, and significant, and may well have been the goal of the stepped-up harsh language in the last week or so.

As usual when Trump succeeds while attention is directed elsewhere, I am unsure whether it was a plan all along, or sound instincts behind the bluster and the bullshit.

It's annoying that the Mooch couldn't answer the question of why Trump failed to single out the white supremacists the first time. Trump blamed all sides because he knows that Antifa is as violent (or more violent) than the white supremacists and probably started the trouble. He is acutely aware of this because Antifa has been attacking pro-Trump supporters (and not only white supremacists) at pro-Trump rallies for over a year now.

It is unfortunate that Trump isn't articulate enough to make that point. If he had called out both white supremacists and Antifa in the same sentence, I don't think the mainstream media would have gotten nearly as much traction with their criticism.

"The audience over-screams with laughter any time Colbert gets off any kind of line"

My problem with Colbert, whom I used to enjoy, and with John Stewart. Their "comedy" has been reduced to applause breaks for bashing conservatives. An applause break is deadly for comedy -- it's the audience's way of saying, "I can't quite bring myself to laugh at your pathetic joke, but you're ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, Trump (or Scott Walker, or Lindsey Graham, or whoever) really is stupid and deplorable, and we're the good people, on the right side of history!".

Russians repeatedly tried to set up meetings with the Trump campaign and were rebuffed. Or, Inga proven to be a liar and fool once again.

"A young aide on President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign attempted several times to set up a meeting between Trump and "Russian leadership," including President Vladimir Putin, according to internal campaign emails.
Three days after George Papadopoulos was named one of Trump's foreign policy advisers in March 2016, he sent an email to seven other campaign officials with the subject line, "Meeting with Russian Leadership -- Including Putin," the Washington Post reports.

Papadopoulos was a volunteer for the campaign and had very little foreign policy experience. He had been in the Model U.N. program in college, from which he graduated in 2009.

"Senior Trump campaign officials were uncomfortable with Papadopoulos' March email, which offered to set up "a meeting between us and the Russian leadership to discuss US-Russia ties under President Trump."

Sam Clovis, a campaign co-chairman, said that he wanted NATO allies to be consulted with first, while another Trump adviser, retired Navy Rear Adm. Charles Kubic, said that such contacts could pose multiple legal issues, for potentially violating the Logan Act and American sanctions against Russia. Then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort was also against having Trump meet with Russian officials."

A Message From Doug

Respect for the individual is one of our core beliefs at Walmart. And the role we play in communities around the country to build a more diverse and inclusive society is more critical than ever as the tragic events in Charlottesville over the weekend painfully reminded us. Our prayers are with the victims and their families.

As we watched the events and the response from President Trump over the weekend, we too felt that he missed a critical opportunity to help bring our country together by unequivocally rejecting the appalling actions of white supremacists. His remarks today were a step in the right direction and we need that clarity and consistency in the future.

Our country is facing some very difficult issues that require our elected officials, business leaders and community-based organizations to work together. Representing a company with the largest and one of the most diverse groups of associates in the U.S., and an even more diverse customer base of tens of millions of customers, we believe we should stay engaged to try to influence decisions in a positive way and help bring people together. I will continue to strongly advocate on behalf of our associates and customers, and urge our elected officials to do their part to promote a more just, tolerant and diverse society.

Thank you for representing Walmart and our values today -- and every day.
