A 7-year-old girl — kidnapped, strangled, and thrown off a bridge — swims to shore and survives.

Fortunately, there's a lady in Worcester, Massachusetts who answers the door at 4 a.m., because a little girl in soaking wet pajamas was knocking.

Believe me, if the Star Tribune of Minneapolis MN had reported this story, you would not have seen even part the person charged. Can you guess why?

rhhardin বলেছেন...

Some newspapers (Miami Herald) go with "kidnaped" which always looks wrong.

traditionalguy বলেছেন...

But are they Muslims? If so the girl must be punished for what the man did to her. Sharia to the rescue.

I'm pretty sure it was the girls fault. They should release the prisoner to the girls father for his deserved blessings.

Kind of ties into the homily we had this past Sunday after listening to the parable of the Good Samaritan. Would you answer the door to a stranger knocking at 4:00AM?

Teach your kids how to swim.

Etienne বলেছেন...

I was told to knock on the door and scream fire, as a teen.

This is because no one answers their door at that hour.

AllenS বলেছেন...

Etienne, if you were knocking on my door and screaming fire in the middle of the night, and I didn't smell smoke, you'd have a big hole in your forehead.

"Can you guess why?"

Yes.

The girl should have texted that she was there. Knocking is so 20th century!

Something in the story doesn't add up. But I'm not going to indulge any conspiracy theories at the moment.

Wouldn't it be funny if the man who answered the door, then raped and strangled her?

madAsHell বলেছেন...

Under what circumstances are you allowed to not show your face during arraignment?

AllenS বলেছেন...

Doesn't seem funny to me. My guess was the home owner heard a feeble knock at the door, not someone screaming FIRE.

"Under what circumstances are you allowed to not show your face during arraignment?"

His lawyer said is was due to discrepancies on whether or not they have correctly ID'd him. -- I have no idea if that has any merit whatsoever.

God bless this brave little girl!

Oh, yeah, that would be just hilarious, Etienne.

Also, even if she were screaming, presumably you'd be able to distinguish the cry of a 7 year old from that of an adult man who might be trying to trick you.

Try that shit here in Texas.... and see what happens. I bet in Massachusetts he gets of lightly. He wouldn't here!!! It would not be kidnapping but attempted CAPITAL MURDER. And we do execute folks for that kind of stuff down here.. flood or not.

1) This all happened about a mile away from me.

2) Additional charges are likely to be some form of sexual assault.

3) WTF!

Good thing she didn't knock on the home of one of those cellphone-carrying millennials or GenZ'ers who are terrified by doorbells.

Took a Google Streetview "walk" through the neighborhood (Forestdale Road, Worcester, MA). Street is 2 blocks long - on a steep hill. Older homes and a few small apartment buildings - most of the homes seem to be multifamily - maybe conversions. The majority of the homes look to be well kept, even the landscaping on some is very attractive.

A few things I noticed - in one driveway there is a very small girl standing next to a car - an adult male is sitting next to the house with his back to her, but kind of looking over his shoulder. Backyard is full of play equipment - I think there is even a drum set under a tree. Looks like people feel secure. At another house the landlord is painting the porch - next to the sidewalk is a patio with furniture and a grill.

It all makes me sad - to think of a young girl going through that, and I wonder how secure the people will feel in the future.

@ Xmas - was writing my comment while you posted yours. How far off is my perception of the neighborhood? Looks like it is an area that is not in decline.

For some reason, I was reminded of Kipling's "The Gift of the Sea." But I like this ending better.

Either that or she was a fast learner. Some old school parents taught their kids to swim by throwing them into the water.

@alan

It's a working class neighborhood. Most of the houses around the city are multi-family (double/triple-deckers) where the owner lives in one unit. Worcester, like a lot of other cities in New England was a former mill town, so these houses were built a long time ago to house the workers' families.

It's the second biggest city in Massachusetts (and I think all of New England), but it doesn't really feel like a big city. The city has 9 small and mid-sized colleges in it, so there's a large-ish population of students that leave for the summer.

@alan

We've also lucked out a bunch as the Canada to NYC heroin pipeline is to the west of Worcester, so we're not having nearly the problem that the cities in New Hampshire, Vermont and Western MA are having.

@AllenS Etienne, if you were knocking on my door and screaming fire in the middle of the night, and I didn't smell smoke, you'd have a big hole in your forehead.

I guess you think that would be a totally justified homicide. You'd quickly find that no one shares that opinion.

JL, I live in the country, and I can't recall how many times especially in the winter when someone came to my door at night because they were in the ditch, me, not you or Etienne had to answer that door, nor start one of my tractors up, and pull them out of the ditch. There are enough instances of bad people knocking on the door and then bull rushing inside. Idiots outside the door yelling FIRE, when there isn't a fire are contestants for the Darwin Award. You probably haven't heard, but there is a meth problem in the country, and we are all aware of it, and the problems it is causing.

Take 2 smart pills and call me in the morning.

@AllenS For your would be victims sake, I hope these circumstances never occur. For your sake, I don't care, have fun in prison.
