Trump blames NBC bosses for his troubles with Joe and Mika and points to the ousting of Greta Van Susteren as evidence.

Trump, not backing down, keeps tweeting about Joe and Mika, but he's not just standing his ground. He's advancing the theory. Here's his most recent tweet, from 2 hours ago:
Crazy Joe Scarborough and dumb as a rock Mika are not bad people, but their low rated show is dominated by their NBC bosses. Too bad!
That's his second shot at NBC this morning. Earlier he tweeted:
Word is that @Greta Van Susteren was let go by her out of control bosses at @NBC & @Comcast because she refused to go along w/ 'Trump hate!'
In between those 2 tweets, he attacked that other network:
I am extremely pleased to see that @CNN has finally been exposed as #FakeNews and garbage journalism. It's about time!
Those 3 tweets cohere into the theory that the bosses at NBC — like the bosses at CNN who were "exposed" in the Project Veritas video — are not following decent principles of journalism but chasing ratings. They think "Trump hate" works and they've pushed Joe, Mika, and Greta and only Greta had the guts and ethics to say no. Mika and Joe wouldn't be doing Trump hate on their own — they're not bad people — but they've got to perform in the ratings and they're following orders.

That's the theory I read in this morning's tweets.

The theory Althouse outlines is...

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Of course the MSM is after ratings, by the way. Ever since it was made a profit center instead of a public service loss leader, in the 70s I guess.

They discovered soap opera women. Any network not doing soap opera will lose money, the exception being disgust at the media media like Fox, which are parasitic on that.

Trump is trying to decouple the entertainment choice of soap opera from its power to edit national debate. Once that's achieved, we can talk about things without being edited by soap opera women, which is to say PC.

Trump seems to be raising the stakes. Rather then go after the personalities who are easily replaced, he's after the networks and their owners who are the continuing players.

Trump jumped the shark with the Mika twitter. They were questioning his mental state and he quickly provided ample proof that he is unhinged. Only his most vulgar supporters are standing behind him. Most Republican elected office holders are fleeing him.

What is Trump's grand strategy here? Besides keeping everyone entertained?

The entire point of using the phrase "jump the shark" is to connote the very moment when you've past a point of no return, no exceptions.

It wasn't enough for the lefties/LLR allies to have ruined the racist!, Nazi!, Misogynist!, etc epithets, they've now also added "jump the shark" to their "canon" of worn out accusations.

Covering the bases with a set mutually exclusive replies seems to work.

Mark म्हणाले...

Trump is being unduly kind (or just overly diplomatic) in saying things like "they are not bad people" and are "doing this for the ratings."

It is clear that the presumption of good faith that we owe people has long been rebutted in the case of the Trump-attackers. For them, it is both personal and ideological. Furthermore, there comes a time when those who exhibit hate become hate.

As for the MSM, it was admitted in the last year (by folks at the NYT) that they are no longer in the business of reporting news. Rather, they are in the business of promoting a pre-determined narrative. Consequently, previous ethical standards concerning news-reporting do not apply.

In this new order, journalists (they cannot rightly be called reporters) are told to go find stories to fit the narrative. At the same time, news events are viewed, distorted, and conveyed to the audience through the lens of that narrative, such that every tiny little thing that Trump does is reported as evidence of his evilness, incompetence, mental instability, etc. So the story gets told that Trump, when he got out of bed this morning, put his right foot down first is PROOF that he hates Democrats and wants them all to DIE.

It is not about ratings. It is about the narrative and the ideological agenda.

Trump was an NBC star and a major one. I think this might have influenced their coverage of him. Many execs were expecting him to abandon his campaign and go back to the Apprentice. They didn't want to portray The Apprentice host as an overweight, mentally disturbed, piss freak misogynist with penis issues, bad hair, and incestuous designs on his daughter. Bad for ratings. They went easy on him in the beginning .....Trump may have mistaken all the chummy feelings that people at NBC expressed for him as signs of friendship rather than as professional courtesies. Maybe he feels betrayed.....If so, he is entitled to those feelings. It was NBC that caused the release of that tape. They didn't have anything against an NBC star expressing such sentiments, but their high moral standards wouldn't allow such conduct in a presidential candidate--or at least a Republican one. Trump was allowed to host SNL and the imitations were good natured. Then, when he became President, Baldwin with all his malice was debuted. He was a frequent guest on Morning Joe. Maybe the subtext was that of an NBC star subliminally plugging his show, but they all pretended to be sch good friends......I wonder how much of this Trump takes personally.

NYC guy thing, for sure.

And I agree with various folks here that the "Mika dumb as a rock" meme is gonna leave a mark. Always considered the high point of Morning Joe was around 2009 when Mika was asking a series of unusually probing questions of a Republican guest, and Joe suddenly noticed, and pointed out, that Mika was reading the questions off her blackberry, (from Axelrod in the Obama White House).

If Trump's tweets are bad for him, why does the media want him to stop? The fact is his tweets are effective, and hurting them. They can't ignore it, and when they deal with his tweets they lose their minds and look foolish.

Even Psyho Joe and Low IQ Mika cringed at Donny Douchebag's schoolyard rant last week.

The irony is they'll say "Trump tweets instead of doing X". The fact is he spends two minutes tweeting, and then goes back to work. But he sends the media off on a tirade, and they obsess all day/week. It's awesome.

Enjoy!

I think you need a new poll with three possibilities:

1. Everything Trump does is terrible. If he somehow managed to walk on water, heal the sick, and bring eternal peace to all mankind, I would still think he’s worse than Hitler and Stalin’s evil love child.

2. Everything Trump does is great. If it turn out his real business is running a worldwide pedophile-bestiality ring, I would be even more likely to vote for him in 2020.

3. I’m somewhere in the middle.

I disagree -- She's a cause celeb, ratings for Morning Joe are up, and her salary goes up in future negotiations. He'd already insulted Mika months ago on twitter, and that has done nothing but increase her star power.

It's attention from the president -- not surprising her influence & power goes up in response.

Here's the thing -- ratings have been going up for MSNBC & CNN. What do companies do when ratings go up? They do MORE of it.

How many people are watching Morning Joe because of this silly scene?

Expect more Mika & Mika-like reporting.

Of course, I'm easily proven wrong. Mika could be dismissed from cable TV. She could be shunned as a speaker. Her books could not sell. I doubt this happens as long as Trump is president. He's her job security.

eric म्हणाले...

By the way, I keep seeing people saying Republicans are going to keep winning elections.

I see a major problem with this.

For 8 years of Obama, we had a rising stock market. It corrected twice during Bush. I don't think that was a coincidence.

My firm belief is that our media still can control the narrative. And if they can convince enough people we have a failing economy, it'll crash the markets. For now, Trump has their attention diverted. Which is brilliant. But eventually someone will remind them, "It's the economy, stupid." And someone will remind them to start reporting good economic news as bad news and bad economic news as worse news.

Unlike under an Obama administration. Where all good news is great news and all bad news comes "unexpectedly!"

The "bosses" remarks are approaching the critical matter of the actual enemies of the administration.
It is most certainly a top-down system, and the faces on TV are just hired mouthpieces, as are their writers, editors and producers.

And it is not about ratings, as such, the soap opera women are an easy, vulnerable audience but it isnt any specific political or ideological line that would especially attract them. Any message will do, its all about the presentation.

So, what interest do the owners of NBC and CNN and the NYT and etc., or more likely the owners of the owners have in bringing down the Trump administration? Qui bono?
That is where to look for the truth.

rhhardin's link @11:05 is well worth the listen. A World Without News. Even though the speaker is an obvious leftist, his analysis about what is wrong with the news is exactly correct. We don't want to be told what to think. We want the facts so we can make our own decisions. The news business started its downhill slide when it embraced the idea that opinion is everything. I started noticing that in the 1980's, and it has gotten worse every year

Paddy O म्हणाले...

"We don't want to be told what to think. We want the facts so we can make our own decisions."

I'm not sure I entirely agree with this. I think there's a vast number of people who do want to be told want to think. There's too much information out there and people don't have time or interest in navigating it all. So except for local news, they want someone who spends the time, that they trust, who can tell them how to think about something. It's a basis for much religion and most politics.

That's why eroding trust is sometimes a better tactic than addressing facts. Which was the tactic against Fox news and now that is being turned around at CNN, etc.

Of course, as much of the trust isn't being earned, it makes the process easier.

On Friday US District court ruled that Illinois has to pay it's bills.

"Friday’s court ruling, which meant that the near-insolvent state must pay an additional $593 million per month, may have been the straw that finally broke the Illinois camel's back.

“Friday’s ruling by the U.S. District Court takes the state’s finances from horrific to catastrophic,” Comptroller Susana Mendoza, a Democrat, said in an emailed statement after the ruling.

As a result of the court decision, “payments to the state’s pension funds; state payroll including legislator pay; General State Aid to schools and payments to local governments -- in some combination -- will likely have to be cut.”"

Democrats have a veto proof majority in the legislature but they wont pass tax hikes without Rauner's signature.

We would be discussing federal bailouts if Obama/Hillary were preezy still. Instead we can break out the popcorn.

I was waiting to see if anyone else knocked over this fat tenpin sitting there.

I would strongly encourage you to read this explanation, but I know you won't.

Leftists only rad Maya Angelou poetry.

a few highlights.

For most of his career, Barney Frank was the principal advocate in Congress for using the government’s authority to force lower underwriting standards in the business of housing finance. Although he claims to have tried to reverse course as early as 2003, that was the year he made the oft-quoted remark, “I want to roll the dice a little bit more in this situation toward subsidized housing.” Rather than reversing course, he was pressing on when others were beginning to have doubts.

His most successful effort was to impose what were called “affordable housing” requirements on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 1992.

The rest is interesting but you won;t read it.

When the Democrats took Congress in 2006, they put the pedal to the metal in liar loans.

when half or more of the mortgages the GSEs bought had to be made to people below that income level, it was inevitable that underwriting standards had to decline. And they did. By 2000, Fannie was offering no-downpayment loans. By 2002, Fannie and Freddie had bought well over $1 trillion of subprime and other low quality loans. Fannie and Freddie were by far the largest part of this effort, but the FHA, Federal Home Loan Banks, Veterans Administration and other agencies–all under congressional and HUD pressure–followed suit. This continued through the 1990s and 2000s until the housing bubble–created by all this government-backed spending–collapsed in 2007. As a result, in 2008, before the mortgage meltdown that triggered the crisis, there were 27 million subprime and other low quality mortgages in the US financial system. That was half of all mortgages. Of these, over 70% (19.2 million) were on the books of government agencies like Fannie and Freddie, so there is no doubt that the government created the demand for these weak loans;

Democrats created it and spent the last two years of Bush's term doubling down.

You are a liar.,

Achilles म्हणाले...
