"Rep. Blake Farenthold on Monday blamed 'some female senators from the Northeast' for hampering Republican efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare..."

"... telling a local radio station that he might challenge them to a duel if the allegedly obstructive lawmakers were men."

What a loser. His attempt at posing as manly is so lame he doesn't even get the ethic of dueling right.

"If it was a guy from south Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style,” Farenthold added."

Hahaha! Republican women Senators no less. What a weenie.

This guy doesn't look quick enough to win a duel

But in the old days, some gentleman of Maine, one with a personal connection, may have seen it as his duty to defend the lady Senators honor (had there been lady Senators), as with any other lady.

So you may very well have had a duel.

He's a big target.

Big target with a name that sounds like a character from The Young and the Restless

I listened to him, he was using gallows humor. Kurt Vonnegut called it "a witticism in response to a hopeless situation."

Which is funny, because the Republicans under the hillbilly McConnell from Kentucky, can't even pass a vote on what to have for lunch. The ultimate "hopeless."

Personally, I wouldn't refer to them as "women from the northeast." He's playing to south Texas, and being a fat politician from south Texas, he should refrain from sounding like a fat politician from south Texas.

If it were me, I'd have a bunch of "women from the northeast" use hatchets on him like a Piñata, only in gallows humor, of course.

I think the Republicans should pray every day to Saint Rita, the saint for the hopeless.

If he would've said that to women Democratic Senators, they would've laughed in his face after figuratively reaming him a new anus.

My favorite line in the history of rap, and it comes from a mere rap-parody...

"You can call us Aaron Burr the way we're droppin' Hamiltons!" Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg, in an SNL short:

That was Rush's joke. The women voted against it, what you'd expect.

Women are insane in politics. You really don't want them voting.

Left Bank of the Charles म्हणाले...

He's gravely insulted Senator Capito's state by saying she's from the Northeast. The men of West Virginia may have to form a line to demand satisfaction.

William म्हणाले...

The women involved are all post menopausal. They voted their conscience not their hormonal imbalances. It is sexist to suggest otherwise.

It would improve things in general to reintroduce dueling.
It would certainly improve the general tone, after a few fatalities.
All will be made good, deceased Senators and Congressmen and the like can be replaced by appointment after all.

And many of the casualties are likely to live, treatment of gunshot injuries has improved enormously. Imagine their greatly increased prestige after surviving a duel for their political honor.

What I really want to see is a return of dueling with swords.
An elegant weapon of a more civilized age.
Also less fatal than guns.

Clyde म्हणाले...

I think that Rep. Farenthold 451 just self-immolated on that one.

(Don't look at the pajamas on Twitchy. You can't unsee that!)

I have often thought so. It might even reduce the number of innocent victims in the inner cities.

Hell wall off a section of run down Detroit, give each gang automatic weapons and let them go at it.

It might even reduce the number of innocent victims in the inner cities.

If we were concerned about this we'd have universal health insurance. Or so I'm told.

My pedantry, let me show you it: deceased House members can only be replaced by election, a distinction against Senators I support wholeheartedly. House members are supposed to represent the people; appointed incumbents don't fit the bill.

Tim म्हणाले...

Yeah- the Republican elected women from the northeast are useless to the "republican" agenda, such as it is. They have been since their first election. Why they aren't Democrats is the big question. Most of the "republican" congressmen are just as useless to Trump's agenda. The uniparty is fighting back.

YoungHegelian म्हणाले...

Well, it's up to the Republican caucus to manage the weaker vessels in their charge. Hhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmm?

Now, if this were SOP between, say, Fox and Breitbart and CNN and CBS and the NYT, imagine the improvement in professional standards.

An interesting one - one of the protagonists is Leon Blum, later Prime Minister and President of France. Note that the argument was over a bad theatrical review. Blum was a literary critic at the time.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) has, according to Five Thirty-Eight, an 86% pro-Trump voting record.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/congress-trump-score/susan-m-collins/

Angus King (I-ME) has, according to the same scoring system, a 46% pro-Trump voting record.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/congress-trump-score/angus-s-king-jr/

So, EverTrumpers; you can have a Susan Collins, with a mostly pro-Trump record, or an Angus King, with a mostly anti-Trump voting record.

You choose. Or, more precisely, sit back and watch while Maine voters choose.

Humperdink म्हणाले...

LLR said: "Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) has, according to Five Thirty-Eight, an 86% pro-Trump voting record."

Did you look at the list LLR? They were mostly Trump nominees. When the rubber meets the road (tax cut and healthcare), Collins will be squarely with King.

BTW, who names their kid Angus?

Sebastian म्हणाले...

What the Dems, being a coalition of interest groups dependent on goodies, achieve depends on what they can offer the most easily bribed member necessary to make a majority.

What the GOP, lacking such bribery instincts, achieves depends on what the most moderate member necessary to make a majority demands, which in the recent past has been Maine RINOism, now with a West Virginia twist. Except that Lee and Moran and Paul also had something to do with the ACA repayment fiasco.

And of course it's true that calling female RINO losers female RINO losers, just as you would male RINO losers, is a "loser" move, because equality.

Birkel म्हणाले...

This guy was a schmuck. People of all stripes are here saying so.

Oddly, no Leftists on the Hillary bribe post admitting she took bribes.

Howard म्हणाले...

Lock her the fuck up, Birkel. She took bribes and stole the nomination from Bernie.

Birkel म्हणाले...

I have no such power. Also, putting the word fuck in close proximity to a conversation about Hillary is unacceptable.

Two strikes in one comment, Hoawrd.

Kate म्हणाले...

The female Senator from the Northeast is voting in lockstep with the female Senator from the Northwest. Murkowski goes big game hunting around Denali every year. The Senator from Texas better rethink who he's asking to a pissing contest.

Danno म्हणाले...

BTW, who names their kid Angus?

You have a beef with that?

Martin म्हणाले...

And if Collins and Murkowski put forth a proposal acceptable to them, and McConnell and most of the caucus signed on, I have would Farenthold sign on despite finding it objectionable? He's not my Congressman and I don't have the time to research it, but he would be more persuasive if there were a couple of instances of him supporting the leadership on an issue where he had a long history of strong and principled opposition--"flip-flopping" as it were, to support the party. Maybe he has done this, but given how he talks, I would be surprised.

It takes at least two to agree, or disagree. The mere fact of disagreement says nothing about who is "right," which in politics is almost always a value judgment, anyway. The GOP has a huge problem of leaders who lack followers, which may be a consequence of being the party of ideas rather than the party of power (the Democrats).

Be that a sit may, unless Farenthold can channel Michael Barone and deeply understand the electorates in Alaska and Maine, he has no place publicly berating people representing those constituencies.

I hope he is primaried by someone with a brain.
