"In terms of the DNC, are you suggesting that this was somehow a set up by Democrats to try and link them or compromise them with the Russians? And this was before there was any Russian interference in election?"

Chris Wallace asked Reince Priebus on Fox News Sunday today.

Priebus answered:
Well, look, why was Fusion GPS involved in putting together this dossier? I don't know, Chris. And I don't think too many people know why or how this meeting came about. However, what I can tell you is in my communication with our team on the subject, there was nothing to it, it was a 20 minute meeting, it ended after everyone was decidedly sitting there saying there's nothing happening here. They moved on. And I think, in the end, what you’re going to find in the story, if you read the Circa column, because I think there’s more questions on the Democrat side than anywhere else....

Wallace's question ("before there was any Russian interference in the election") is really stupid. If the Dems did it, it doesn't matter whether they did so before or after the alleged Russian "election hacking".

The pro-Trump narrative is that President Trump did not collude with the Russians and that the whole story is a narrative fabricated by democrats to try to bring down his administration before it had even started.

If it's from hacked information....

"Renato Mariotti, who prosecuted cybercrime and financial fraud cases as an assistant US attorney in Chicago, says a person who encouraged the release of emails stolen from an American could face prosecution for aiding and abetting computer fraud.* “You have to know of the criminal activity and take affirmative steps to help it succeed,” he says.

Attorneys also say that a person who colluded with hackers should worry about being charged for wire fraud, a broad law that prohibits the use of communications technology, including the internet, with the intent to commit fraud. They also note that a colluder could face prosecution for violating copyright, trade secrets, and even espionage laws.

An indication of the breadth of charges federal prosecutors can level in hacking cases came in March in California. Prosecutors there charged four men, including two members of Russia’s Federal Security Service, with a high-profile penetration into 500 million Yahoo user accounts in 2014. The two Russian officials, accused of supporting but not participating in the breach, drew dozens of federal charges, including conspiracy to commit computer fraud, conspiracy to commit access device fraud, conspiracy to steal trade secrets, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

A law barring foreign nationals from providing assistance in US elections could also put Trump aides in legal danger. That law, strengthened in the wake of allegations that Bill Clinton’s 1996 reelection campaign benefited from Chinese support, prohibits foreigners from providing “anything of value” in connection with an election. Bob Bauer, who served as White House counsel under former President Barack Obama, wrote in a June 2 analysis that Russian actions aimed at helping elect Trump, including the hacking and release of embarrassing emails from the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee, represent an overlooked illegal campaign donation. “The case is more or less hiding in plain sight,” Bauer insisted.

Under this law, US campaign officials must provide “substantial assistance” to a foreign person or entity helping their campaign in order to face criminal liability. Secret contacts aimed at securing Russian help would probably meet the standard. So might public statements like Trump’s invitation for more Russian hacking and his repeated praise of WikiLeaks, the site that disseminated the Democratic emails swiped by Russian intelligence. Bauer argued that such statements alerted Russian officials that their efforts were welcome. Those statements also made clear that Trump considered Russia’s assistance to be “of value,” said Bauer."

"On Fox, Hume was not alone in questioning the criminality of collusion. Host Gregg Jarrett wrote last month that Mueller “is tasked with finding a crime that does not exist” because “colluding with Russia is not, under America’s criminal codes, a crime.” Fox’s Geraldo Rivera and Sean Hannity have made the more specific argument that a Trump campaign official would not have broken the law by asking a Russian person to release hacked emails. “Is that a crime, to say ‘release it?'” Hannity asked on his radio show Friday.

“Fuck yeah, potentially,” responds Ekeland. He notes he has defended clients prosecuted for actions comparable to those of the hypothetical Trump aide. Hacking into someone’s email is a federal felony. Encouraging that crime may constitute a conspiracy to violate federal identify theft and computer fraud laws, Ekeland says. (On July 27, at a campaign press conference, Trump essentially encouraged Russia to hack Hillary Clinton: “Russia: If you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing.”)"

Trump is making the US an energy powerhouse.

While Obama mouthed the words "all of the above" when describing his own energy policy, his administration did everything it could to thwart all sources of energy except unreliable and heavily subsidized wind and solar.

Obama canceled the Keystone XL pipeline; put vast tracts of land and offshore areas off-limits to oil and gas development; denied a permit for a liquefied natural gas export terminal in Oregon; endlessly pushed for huge tax hikes on energy companies; called oil the "energy of the past"; and tried to kill coal with his "Clean Power Plan." Nuclear power was at a standstill. Even hydropower production dropped 7% on his watch.

It is true that oil and natural gas production took off while Obama was in the White House, but this was despite Obama's best efforts, not because of them, since those production gains were on private lands.

Trump's "make American energy great again" approach is a nightmare to environmentalists, who endlessly preach global-warming doom and fantasize about a world powered by windmills and solar panels.

America is truly blessed with an incredible abundance of natural resources, and Trump is right to put the fortunes of today's Americans ahead of supposed climate change threats that won't materialize — if they do at all — for another 100 years.

Getting the government out of the way of these resources is the best energy policy anyone could hope for, and it's the one Trump is pushing. If only the public, and the news media, would take notice.

Meanwhile, the left is running in circles.

"So the Trump campaign took a meeting with Russians who promised to supply them with damaging information on their opponent. This is the defense. Given that Trump is fervently denying that his campaign colluded with Russia to steal and disseminate Democratic emails, it is not a very strong one.

Trump Jr.’s latest defense is that while he sought damaging information from Veselnitskaya, she failed to deliver any. However, the timing of events around this meeting is instructive. The hacker Guccifer announced the theft of Clinton emails the month before, and Guccifer’s only publicly known connection to Russia was his use of Russian proxy servers. But three days after the meeting with the Trump campaign, Julian Assange, Putin’s pass-through publishing source for email hacks, announced, “We have upcoming leaks in relation to Hillary Clinton … We have emails pending publication, that is correct.”

The most interesting follow-up question is, what was the nature of the damaging information that Veselnitskaya promised? Stolen emails, perhaps?"

In case anyone missed it, this week President Trump reversed President Obama's pro-Russian policy of cancelling the sale of patriot missile defense systems to Poland. And reaffirmed our commitment to defend them militarily against Russia.

A five minute search on the internet reveals that Fusion GPS is a going concern financed and managed by progressive/democrat operators.

Maybe next time try six minutes and provide a link.

The company was co-founded in 2009 by Glenn R. Simpson and Peter Fritsch, both former journalists for The Wall Street Journal...

...In September 2015, Fusion GPS was hired to do opposition research for Republicans who opposed Donald Trump's bid during the Republican primary campaign for the 2016 presidential election. After Trump became the Republican candidate for the 2016 U.S. presidential election, the Republican donors stopped funding the investigation, but funding was continued by Democratic supporters of Hillary Clinton.[12]

Also

According to reports, the dossier was created as part of opposition research on Trump. The investigation into Trump was initially funded by "Never Trump" Republicans and later by Democrats.[5][6][7] In September 2015, a wealthy Republican donor who opposed Trump's candidacy in the Republican primary hired Fusion GPS, an American research firm, to do opposition research on Trump. For months, Fusion GPS gathered information about Trump, focusing on his business and entertainment activities. When Trump became the presumptive nominee in May 2016, the Republican donor withdrew and the investigation contract was taken over by an unidentified Democratic client.[7][8]

Or parading out women to claim Trump harassed them in one way or another.

But, no. We're back to Russia. Honestly, it's getting a bit boring. Does anyone actually expect to find some smoking gun of corrupt collusion between Trump and Russia? It takes all of the suspense out of a political thriller when you realize it's going to end in a fizzle rather than a bang.

A lot depends on keeping the Russia lie alive. It was the justification for getting FISA warrants to spy on Trump and just about anyone who has had contact with Trump during the campaign. It was the justification for getting those on the NSA database that was made available to law enforcement. If it was exposed as a known lie aforethought, it would mean thousands of crimes had been committed. Crimes leading all the way back to Obama and his corrupt Justice Department. Will we get a memo when the combined expenditures pass $1 Billion? Mueller and his 14 Clinton legal aides and armies of investigators get included in the total, of course.

How bad is Trump? When I tell you that no one has been able to identify his crime or find the evidence for it - doesn't that show? I mean Hillary, we know the crimes: Whitewater, bimbo suppression, pay for play, Top Secret material from the office of the Secretary of State on an unsecured server, hundreds of thousands for speeches, blah, blah - we know it all. But Donald Trump - we don't even know what he has done. Doesn't that just show how necessary it is that we have an unlimited non-partisan investigation employing all the lawyers in DC who have lost jobs since Trump came to power? Even the Russians - we know that Putin is invading the Ukraine and turning off the power supply line to Eastern Europe when he feels like it. And that shows you how bad what Trump is doing must be because Trump is a white American man and defeated a Democrat, meaning THE worst. Yet we can't find evidence. You see what I mean. And even when we wiretapped him and heard his campaign strategy he beat us because in his strategy he was trying to break the blue wall which can't be done so we paid no attention. And he did it, he broke the blue wall so that shows he committed crimes.

Oh, God, just so tired ... just so tired ... Russia ... if I hear that word one more time ... meeting today... got to ... new accusations needed ... http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/341223-ex-bush-ethics-lawyer-on-trump-jr-meeting-with-russian-lawyer-this

An ethics lawyer under former President George W. Bush blasted Donald Trump Jr. for meeting with a Russian lawyer who claimed to have compromising information on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during the campaign, saying it “borders on treason.”

“This was an effort to get opposition research on an opponent in an American political campaign from the Russians, who were known to be engaged in spying inside the United States,” Richard Painter said Sunday on MSNBC.

“We do not get our opposition research from spies, we do not collaborate with Russian spies, unless we want to be accused of treason.”

Painter said the Bush administration would not have allowed the meeting, which was attended by Trump Jr., White House senior adviser and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, to happen.

“If this story is true, we’d have one of them if not both of them in custody by now, and we’d be asking them a lot of questions,” he said. “This is unacceptable. This borders on treason, if it is not itself treason.”

Sunday:

"She then changed subjects and began discussing the adoption of Russian children and mentioned the Magnitsky Act. It became clear to me that this was the true agenda all along and that the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting. "

Saturday's points are not changed or refuted on Sunday: the difference is the addition of the election angle:

"I was asked to have a meeting by an acquaintance I knew from the 2013 Miss Universe pageant with an individual who I was told might have information helpful to the campaign."

While Saturday has omission, it is not a different story. Of course, the omission is of speaking of doing what people in a political campaign do: the Horror.

"I was asked to have a meeting by an acquaintance I knew from the 2013 Miss Universe pageant with an individual who I was told might have information helpful to the campaign. I was not told her name prior to the meeting. I asked Jared and Paul to attend, but told them nothing of the substance. We had a meeting in June 2016. After pleasantries were exchanged, the woman stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Ms. Clinton. Her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. No details or supporting information was provided or even offered. It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information. She then changed subjects and began discussing the adoption of Russian children and mentioned the Magnitsky Act. It became clear to me that this was the true agenda all along and that the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting. I interrupted and advised her that my father was not an elected official, but rather a private citizen, and that her comments and concerns were better addressed if and when he held public office. The meeting lasted approximately 20 to 30 minutes. As it ended, my acquaintance apologized for taking up our time. That was the end of it and there was no further contact or follow-up of any kind. My father knew nothing of the meeting or these events."

In April 2016, two months before the June report that alleged a Russian conspiracy, former President Barack Obama appointed Steven Chabinsky, the general counsel and chief risk officer for CrowdStrike, to the Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity.

The only source for this claim of Russian involvement in the DNC "hack" is CrowdStrike, who began monitoring the DNC system on May 5th, 2016. The DNC also reportedly paid $168,000 to CrowdStrike.

Co-Founder and CTO of CrowdStrike Dmitri Alperovitch is a nonresident senior fellow on the Atlantic Council. The Atlantic Council is also funded by the “Open Society Initiative for Europe,” a program of leftist billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundation. The Atlantic Council is also funded by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. Pinchuk is a Ukrainian billionaire who reportedly gave $25 million to the Clinton Foundation, and was invited to Clinton’s home for a dinner in 2012 while she was secretary of state, despite an earlier denial from a Clinton spokesperson that “never on her schedule” during her time as Secretary.

CrowdStrike received $100 million in investments led by Google Capital (since re-branded as CapitalG) in 2015. CapitalG is owned by Alphabet, and Eric Schmidt, Alphabet’s chairman, was a supporter of Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. More than just supporting Clinton, leaked emails from Wikileaks in November 2016 showed that in 2014 he wanted to have an active role in the campaign.

Obama Tells Trump: Stop ‘Whining’ and Trying to Discredit the Election

---OCT. 18, 2016---

At a news conference in the White House Rose Garden, Mr. Obama said, “I have never seen in my lifetime, or in modern political history, any presidential candidate trying to discredit the elections and the election process before votes have even taken place.”

There is no evidence, he said, that a presidential election has ever been rigged. He said there was little indication that it could be, given that elections are run by state and local authorities, with people from both parties supervising polling sites and ballot counting.

That is from Obama's own mouth. Anyone still pushing this Russia collusion crap is a traitor.

But it gets better. Obama said that AFTER he had been briefed in AUGUST:

The Washington Post is reporting Friday morning that President Barack Obama knew in August that Russian President Vladimir Putin was waging an extraordinary cyberwar on the U.S. presidential campaign, both to discredit the election and try to help Donald Trump win. The Obama administration did not publicly acknowledge all of this until after the election, in December.

How much better would our country be without the traitorous shitheads pushing this garbage?

Lest anyone be snookered by Unknown's comment at 6:56 claiming that Trump called on Russia to hack Hillary Clinton, let's consider the broader context of what Trump said. In that news conference, Trump began his comments on the issue by saying that he thought Russia "probably already [had] the 33,000 missing and deleted emails" (you know, the ones on Hillary's illegal and unsecured home-brew server). He then said the part Unknown quoted: "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you are able to find the 30,000 mising emails." It sounds like he is saying, essentially, 'Russia, I hope you can find the missing emails that you probably have already obtained.' This is supported by a later tweet, in which he said, "If Russia or any country or other person has Hillary Clinton's 33,000 illegally deleted emails, perhaps they should share them with the FBI." Note he said "has," present tense. In any event, how could Russia hack a server in the hands of the FBI as part of a criminal investigation? Doesn't make sense.

And there's always black lives matter, amongst others.

BLM has toned it down since the law suits amped up. Soros is buying them the best defense that money can buy. Considering how much money he wasted on the last election, and with no coherent strategy going forward to meddle in US elections, perhaps he's licking wounds.

darell, you don't know me, or my affiliations. in fact i think you would be pleasantly surprised.

chickelit, i don't foray into the comments often, so i'm sure it has been much worse. maybe i was being a little harsh, but it was my two cents for now.

They planned for it to go away when Hillary won, Achilles -- never to be discussed again.
