When I opened the tag for that article (hours ago) I assumed that the professor got his membership terminated, but now I see I am wrong.
An Alexandria gym terminated the membership of white nationalist Richard Spencer last week after he was confronted by a Georgetown University professor who recognized him and lambasted him over his alt-right views. Why was the person who got confronted terminated?
The professor, C. Christine Fair, of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, asked Spencer if he was Richard Spencer, and when he denied it (because he didn't want trouble, she said: "Of course you are, so not only are you a Nazi — you are a cowardly Nazi." And: "I just want to say to you, I’m sick of your crap... As a woman, I find your statements to be particularly odious; moreover, I find your presence in this gym to be unacceptable, your presence in this town to be unacceptable."
Finally, as the professor tells it, the general manager told her she was creating a "hostile environment" at the gym, and "Fair responded that Spencer’s views create a 'hostile environment' for gym employees who are women and people of color." But later:
Fair said she was contacted by a corporate representative for the gym last week, who informed her that Spencer’s membership had been terminated. The gym wanted her to come in to provide more information about the incident.“I’d do it again,” she said of the episode. “I told the fellow, ‘I think we can have a deal here: You don’t let any more Nazis in, and I won’t be making a scene.’ ”

Don't know. It's a private business. Maybe he'll be forced to cater a gay wedding.
I thought Spencer lived in Montana.
His presence alive on her earth triggered her to have the guy kicked out.
That is the basic dehumanizing propaganda campaign that leads to holocausts of the dehumanized. So who is the real Nazi here?
"Why was the person who got confronted terminated?" Tough one. Couldn't be a case of who/whom, could it?
As a thought experiment, as Einstein might have suggested, let's consider the possibility of the hysterical woman prof being booted. How would the political bodies have moved in space/time?
It is different when we do it!

probably the guy who actually advocates for ethnic cleansing.
He doesn't sound much worse than La Raza. Funny thing is he is listed by SPLC as a "hate group" but I can't find any listing for La Raza. I could have missed it but...
He didn't have to hassle closing out his membership.
I don't much care for Richard Spencer, but right now I like him better than the badly misnamed Prof. Fair.
The Washington Post writes an ambiguous headline.
Don't you have a tag for that?
When toddlers have tantrums, they should be -- must be -- ignored. The same is true -- even moreso -- for University Professors.
Why was the person who got confronted terminated?
Because virtue signaling is all the rage? It's like this generation's hula hoop.
Holocaust insecurity run amok.
Companies might want to be careful. Since this gym has shown they will terminate your membership if they dislike your views, then it means they, tacitly, approve of the views of ALL of their members.
This was the best: "I just want to say to you, I’m sick of your crap... As a woman, I find your statements to be particularly odious; moreover, I find your presence in this gym to be unacceptable, your presence in this town to be unacceptable."
"As a woman..." You know whatever comes after that is going to be ridiculous. It's particularly odious for a woman to run into a Nazi? His Naziness offends her in a special way through her vagina? You'd think we would have sent our women to fight the Hun in WW2 if that were the case. Or is this odiousness debilitating, would have weakened our armed forces, and it's just through her superior abilities that this particular woman was able to approach him.
Were other women at the gym similarly affected? I mean, they would have to be, for her statement as a woman to hold up.
Were they all trying to figure out who the odious Nazi was within the male population when they got together in the women's locker room? And if so, why weren't these other uber-affected women not interviewed as part of the article?
What's the C stand for?
Whatever it is, we know that's not funny.
So hostile environment has been redefined to mean I don't like what you think. And if I have a hissy fit it's your fault for provoking them fightin' thoughts. But only if you're the right color or gender. Privilege!
This is exactly the kind of in your face and arrogant lefty BS that got us Pesident Trump. For a professor she is really clueless.
What about marxists? Can we expel all the Marxists if we make a scene?
Whenever two fascists meet, you just know it's ultimately going to end up in a row about who's fascism is the superior fascism.
And yet, Spencer is the Nazi in this scenario, right?
This shit simply cannot continue.
It's only a matter of time.
They are fearless, these fascists. You'd be, too, if you had their power. Wonder how this is going to end?
The Washington Post writes an ambiguous headline.
It begins.
I wonder if Volokh will mention this as another 'heckler's veto'.
Ah she identifies as a feminist, blamed whites for native genocide, slaves built this country, and is currently on Twitter calling everyone who disagrees with her a Nazi.
It typical libtard trash
"For a professor she's clueless.".
Redundant.
He must have been a colorful clump of cells...
So, the guy was deemed unworthy and denied his gym membership. From the twilight fringe that is progress, even positive progress.
C. Christine Fair, of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, asked Spencer if he was Richard Spencer, and when he denied it (because he didn't want trouble)
Privacy is exclusively a women's rite to deny life unworthy for what is clearly political progress.
[class] diversity and life unworthy. Oh, my. The Nazi speaks.
Alt-right, huh. The mainstream left, the Pro-Choice Church, are projecting their sincerely held beliefs. So damn selective.
I don't even know who Spencer is. Doubt he is actually a Nazi. WaPo says white nationalist.... like the National Association For the Advancement of Colored People? Or the Congressional Black Caucus?
I'm going to go read his work and see what he's about. Streisand Effect. Thanks libtard.
virtue signaling is all the rage
Literally.
She must really study his image to notice him in a gym...
She's making friends everywhere..
Muslim woman who voted for Trump asks Georgetown to intervene over professor’s ‘hateful, vulgar’ messages
The mainstream left may be forgiven. They are still calculating the optimal ratio of black, white, brown, yellow, and green. Of women, men, and other. [class] diversity.
Fen: "I don't even know who Spencer is."
Oh, he's the guy no one ever heard of until the left needed Narrative Support so he was promoted to Leader Of The Republican Party.
Mind you, if Spencer really was a Nazi then instead of giving an interview to the Post that professor would be dangling under a tree branch. Hitler and his followers were a nasty bunch of people, and if everyone who gets called a Nazi really was a Nazi then there'd be a lot of blood in the streets.
walter:
Muslim woman who voted for Trump
The vast majority of Muslims are unaffected by increased scrutiny of principled alignment to assess character A limited minority of Muslims, Christians, Jews, Atheists, etc. are inconvenienced by delayed immigration. Far less than were redistributed under immigration reform forced by Obama's elective wars and Clinton's "She chose. She conceived. She aborted" ideological doctrine.
This was the same Christine Fair who went after Azra Nomani for having voted for Trump. Prof. Fair sent her former colleague, who was an adjunct professor at Georgetown, obscene messages for 31 days on social media.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4069936/Georgetown-prof-C-Christine-Fair-went-meltdown-Muslim-ex-colleague-Asra-Q-Nomani-admitted-voting-Donald-Trump.html
"probably the guy who actually advocates for ethnic cleansing"
I have no love for Spencer, but that gym sure got intellectually cleansed, didn't it? And before anyone claims ethnic cleansing can't be compared to intellectual cleansing, I give you Exhibit A: Pol Pot.
And for anyone who would care to argue that Pol Pot's intellectual cleansing was clearly orders of magnitude more serious than the intellectual cleansing of the gym (and it was), I'll point out that the amount of ethnic cleansing committed by Spencer is of much lesser magnitude than the amount of intellectual cleansing of the gym.
And if any of that makes any sense, it'll be a miracle.
All the other gyms in the area will be on the lookout for Spencer now. I bet even Chuck Norris told his people not to sell Spencer a Total Gym if he calls.
F**king idiot will be lucky if he can buy a used Thighmaster at the Goodwill Store.
Professor Fair is quite a piece of work. The attack on the the Muslim ex-friend that @walter notes was over the top.
As an Associate Professor at the Center for Peace and Security Studies (CPASS), she has supported her share of non-peaceful actions:
-Her pro-drone stance has been denounced, and called "surprisingly weak" by Brookings Institution
-She has also been rebuked for comments on social media perceived as provocative, such as suggesting burning down Pakistan's embassy in Afghanistan or asking India to "squash Pakistan militarily, diplomatically, politically and economically."
damikesc:
Dislike your views (e.g. orientation), perhaps. However, they were unrealized, considered in privacy (e.g. thoughts). This was a public trial convened in the press to deny individual civil rights.
Here is the blog entry on Prof. Fair's earlier behavior:
http://althouse.blogspot.com/2017/01/muslim-woman-who-voted-for-trump-asks.html
Funny. He grew up in north Dallas with me. Graduated St Marks a few years after I graduated Highland Park. And now he lives just across the river from me in Alexandria VA.
I might give him a call. I don't agree with some of the things attributed to him, but then I doubt the media has represented him fairly.
I'd like him to explain the absence of a right wing militant group.
Can we have a principles check? As long as you are not advocating violence, are you allowed to express your political opinions in America? No matter how repugnant or loathesome they may be?
So in Madison if I see an anti-Christian bigot, can one confront said bigot and get his/her lily white membership revoked?
If there was a Nazi movement of any consequence, prof fair would have acid thrown in her face. We'll see.
The least they could've done is also terminate her membership. She seems unhinged. Apparently a serial harasser, too. Why is she being rewarded? First, Georgetown fails to discipline her when she bullied an ex-colleague who voted for Trump, and now she gets away with this crap? BTW, she also went after a woman at the gym who intervened to get her to calm down. Of course, that woman was a Nazi sympathizer or something.
That prof who got in Fair's cross-hairs is a bit of unicorn.
I'd like to see the % of Muslims who voted for Trump vs professors.
Does Spencer have a lawsuit here?
Only if he's an islamic nazi. But if that were the case the professor would have gone over and asked to lick his sweat off the stari climber and not get him thrown out.
All said, it was The Washington Post that revealed its bigotry when it casually conflated the political myth of "alt-right" with [class] diversitists, abortionists, adventurists, and other selective, elective expressions.
Hideous cunt has right think and has the obligation to harass and scream at anyone of note who wrong thinks.
Once upon a time, a very long tine ago, every liberal member of that gym would resign based on the action of the gym's management decision. But that was when we were a great country and when liberals held liberal ideas.
She confronted him because she was fairly certain he was just a Nazi wannabe. If he were a real Nazi, he'd have collapsed her skull with a dumbbell.
If it was my gym, I'd have kicked them both out.
He doesn't sound much worse than La Raza. Funny thing is he is listed by SPLC as a "hate group" but I can't find any listing for La Raza. I could have missed it but.
You can't raise funds from gullible liberals by call La Raza a hate group. By the way, did you kids know that SPLC has a quarter of a billion dollars in the bank, per their financial statement? Also, I have some experience in financial statements and auditing. They are hiding travel to fun places for their staff. They have a line called "outreach" and it accounts for several million dollars of spending.
Really Bob? Would you dox membership apps to see what they think while they pump iron?
No. But after the ruckus brought them to my attention, I'd kicked them out.
Then I'd tell Prof. Fair she could come back and when she did, I'd kick her out again.
So the business refused to serve Spencer because of his political views.
There are Protected Classes created by the Amended Constitution and by Legislation: race, sex, family status, etc.
The first Amendment declares "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;.... That has been stretched to apply to the States and lower political subdivisions, even stretched so far as to prohibit the occasional display of religious symbols in public buildings.
In some cases Protected Classes are protected in private contracts (wedding cake bakers...).
Now about that "abridging the freedom of speech" part. This directly addresses political expression. Has not the Alexandra gym violated one the most fundamental Constitutionally protected rights?
Dunno Bob. Not defending Spencer's views..but he was minding his own business until this..(borrowing her own term for her colleague) "crybully" decided to assert her womanhood.
First they came for the white nationalists....
Spencer if I recall right is a white separatist, not a white supremacist. It's like all-black dorms that blacks like, and all-black college courses.
Let him mind his own business in someone else's gym.
"First they came for the white nationalists...."
They come for him, they told him to go.
Ok..I take that as a Yes.
Dox 'em all..avoid any potential "ruckus".
Should read, They didn't come for him.
Hammond X. Gritzkofe:
No, the business refused to serve Spencer because of a public relationships coup carried out by Professor C. Christine Fair, of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and a bigoted press, that may be limited to The Washington Post, searching for redemption in all the wrong places.
"I find your presence in this town to be unacceptable "
Will he have to move too?
Seems Fair..or Boyd.
"Dox 'em all.."
I don't have time for that shit. I got a gym to run.
Political activity is a protected class in New York, with applicability to places of public accommodation.
Does the gym have a location in New York?
Perhaps he should show up there and present his membership card.
I dunno. I'm tempted to join that gym and throw a tantrum when i spot prof fair. Is the gym named?
You can hire some folks to do it for you...or reward members for informing.
You wouldn't want the wrong sort of thinking in there on a treadmill.
Shouldn't the gym be required to host a Nazi wedding?
Shouldn't it be the Nazis who are the ones kicking people out of places and not tolerating opposing points of view?
But now the Nazis are the ones who just want to be left alone and instead are harrassed and kicked out of places where their views are not tolerated?
(Not at all) Fair's action is how we'll GET MORE TRUMP. Bummmmmmmmmmmer for her.
Question for the lawyers... did the club violate a contract?
I imagine Spencer had paid for a full month of membership, and was kicked out mid-month. Did he violate any terms of his membership contract that could result in membership revocation? Did he suffer any damages as a result of the fallout?
Is he actually a Nazi? A verifiable, card-carrying member of the National Socialist Workers Party? I doubt it. But someone is running around calling him a Nazi. I would regard that pretty damaging if it happened to me and it found its way into the Washington Post. Yeah, he's a public figure - sort of - though I had never even heard of him until the day after election day, when the Democrat talking points memos came out directing their mouthpieces at NPR and CNN to turn him into the leader of the GOP.
But even if he is a public figure, would it be that hard to show actual malice on Fair's part? Look at her history with her "Shit Men Say" blog and her unhinged attack on her former coworker. If that's not actual malice, what is?
It's probably about time these insufferable libtards got held to their own standards.
Walter, if you don't like the way I run my imaginary gym, maybe I'll let you try it.
You might just find it's not as easy as I make it look.
That gym appears to be Old Town Sport & Health gym in Alexandria, Virginia
Bob, maintaining purity of thought in others would be exhausting for the typical gym owner. That's why you would hire help..or get some dox-smart college interns.
Great example of liberal tolerance.
Doxing was your idea, not mine.
The headline wasn't the least ambiguous to me. I knew immediately who was given the boot.
Ah..ok. So it's a matter of whether others bring it to your attention. That's a very lazy approach to thought purity.
Does Spencer have a lawsuit here?
Seems he may, I think.
Tortious interference with a contract?
I don't suppose she said "I need some muscle over here" ?
Actually, attacking her would be a waste of time and just martyr her. Smart Nazis would kill her loved ones and let her live with the reasons why it happened.
But I'm pretty sure there aren't any real Nazis. And the white supremacists are all sidelinded doing meth.
"That's why you would hire help..or get some dox-smart college interns."
And there goes your profit margin. See what I mean? The imaginary gym business is cut-throat. Do you realize how many imaginary gyms there are? It's brutal. That's why I wait for the ruckus, then I come down on 'em like a ton of bricks.
Interns (free) or a subsidized Work-study arrangement with a righteous Uni.
For Fair's side of this situation, she has it at her blog that goes by the name of ShitMenSay
That's my gym, an imaginary gym.
Its remarkably cheap, considering its ultra-convenient, ultra-exclusive, and has locations all over San Francisco.
So in the imaginary gym business, as in so many others, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Let that be a lesson for all wheels.
So on her blog she says she was exercising her 1st Amendment rights.
But on Twitter she says Spencer has no 1st Amendment rights because the gym is privately owned.
Is this what passes for intellectual rigor at Georgetown? They should be embarrassed.
I appreciate the help, Walter. I bet you'd be asistant manager in no time if could I imagine hiring you, but sadly we're up against that slim margin again. Heck, I'm still washing the freaking towels myself half the time.
In my view, Spencer and Fair are both professional trouble makers and attention whores.
The sheer magnitude of Fair's idiocy does not make Spencer any less of an idiot. Idiocy isn't a zero sum game.
Don't cry for Spencer. He loves this shit. Anytime he can make the papers, it's a win for him.
The professor, C. Christine Fair, of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service
She teaches people how to become diplomats.
So if a woman came into the gym in a burkha would there be a confrontation? Are some forms of oppression permissible?
In my gym I treat people unfairly on a case by case basis.
If he was seeking attention there, he wouldn't have denied who he is.
But then, he may have been trying to protect his gym membership from cancellation.
Hey..get out of the gym biz and become a prof in some SJW shit.
Has Richard Spencer written a book?
Does he write a newsletter?
-- If so, what are his primary viewpoints on current issues?
Does he run a political organization?
--If so, how many members?
--If so, how much $ does he raise annually?
Does he hold elective office?
-- If so, where and what office?
When David Duke ran for PRESIDENT in 1980, as a DEMOCRAT, there wasn't much of an outcry.
When he switched parties and ran as a Republican, he got a lot of notoriety.
Gee, I wonder why?
The Left needs and wants bogeymen to direct their wrath. They also want racial incidents (a majority of which are hoaxes) to fuel their wrath. This obnoxious dumbass female GTown Professor should have been slapped, but instead she likely won the confrontation.
Politics ain't beanbag.
Dear Bob,
Love the new sauna but a few complaints:
1) The 2 for 1 special guaranteed red heads not blondes. While appreciate blondes as much as anyone, I joined with expectation that my companions would be red heads.
2) The skeet range is still inoperable. While I can appreciate that libtards tend to be so obese as to strain the launch mechanism, might I recommend using a trebuchet instead?
3) I paid for vintage Liberal Tears 2000 and was served Liberal Tears 2016.
The professor, C. Christine Fair, of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service
Georgetown University employs her to teach people how to become diplomats.
Oh..that bodes well..
"If he was seeking attention there, he wouldn't have denied who he is."
Spencer deliberately provokes anger and outrage. He courts trouble for a living. Trouble doesn't always make an appointment.
A lot of comments are calling attention to Fair's activities outside the gym. Seems like a double standard not to take Spencer's outside activities into account as well.
Story would have been more interesting had he shot her and she had collapsed on him, killing him
Good grief. There is a difference between noting people's activities etc. and banning them.
I go to the gymn with fair regularity. I don't recall any political conversations there. It's just not a place where people discuss politics. Conversations are brief and innocuous, and usually detail how you're not feeling at your best. She seems to have been the one who broached the subject of politics........ If you know the name Spencer, you're probably spending too much time thinking about politics, and, if you can recognize him by sight at a gymn, you're definitely into the obsessional stage. I wonder if she brings that kind of focus to her workouts. She might be some kind of triathlon athlete. They're extremely obsessive.
Some more confrotational type might have slapped her silly--but it would be wasted effort. She was already silly.
Nah, keep her on free range. She radicalizes more people like me and ensures we get more Trump.
I'm not happy to be defending Spencer here...but this is unacceptable. The Left knows they can get away with this shit because the Right will behave like adults. So it is time, for at least a brief while, for the Right to go back to the school yard and start handing some of this shit back to the Left.....
probably the guy who actually advocates for ethnic cleansing.
I didn't read anything about a member of La Raza......
Can someone with a tumblr account go to get blog and tell her we are all talking about her over here? She's the type that can't resist and I need a new chew toy.
Dear Fen,
Your membership has been revoked. I already cleaned out your locker and gave your shit to the redhead that works at the Starbucks next door. She said she knows you.
You were behind on your dues as usual, but if you never come back, we'll call it even. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Bob Boyd, Proprietor.
Nobody knew who Spencer was before the media, out of nowhere, decided to call him the "leader" of the alt-right. Which they of course did because they couldn't find anyone else on the right who fits the bizarre caricatures of their narrative.
In fact, I think it's 75/25 at this point that he's a moby. They created him for precisely that purpose, he's in on it, and he says outrageous things precisely so conservatives in general can be tarred with the brush. And since it wasn't really working, I suspect *this* situation was concocted precisely to gin up sympathy from the Right for him, so that the sympathy/defenses can be quoted and the tarring will more effective thereby. Don't fall for it.
"There is a difference between noting people's activities etc. and banning them."
Not in my gym!
"Your membership has been revoked"
LOL. And do you want to upgrade your latte to a grande?
Note, btw, that he doesn't have to be in on it for the theory that they're trying to gin up sympathy for him so they can elevate him further as "a leader of the right" to be correct.
They should be embarrassed.
A very large portion of the problems we face in the US today stem from the fact that the Left is simply incapable of being embarrassed.
Good points Owinn.
Gahrie said...

Agreed - except that I hear and read and see DAILY that they are embarrassed that Donald Trump is their president. (Hah. He IS their president. Isn't that satisfying on its own?)
What has Spencer ever done to this creature except offend her? That's now the standard? Why does she think it will stop there? If she can have him tossed out of his gym by throwing a tantrum, why shouldn't she expect someone who's offended by her actions to slash her tires and sugar her gas tank, or worse? Doesn't she see where this spiral of offense/retaliation/offense/retaliation leads?
Speaking of nazis ... this reminds me of Hilberg's three phases.
"You cannot live among us as Jews."
"You cannot live among us."
"You cannot live."
She's at stage 2, he cannot live among us.
Douglas: because the right almost never retaliates. We're too busy being decent human beings. But they'll make sure the history books read the exact opposite.
Fair called her [Trump voter] a “wretch” and a “psycho shrew.”
Probably not wise to confront a "Nazi" when he's amped up on adrenaline.
Fernandinande, read that blog post of hers. She commands an impressive range of adjectives.
Good Lord she's an ugly one.
Unexpectedly.
I'm thinking the C in her name means something...
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/dec/29/professor-accused-abusing-colleague-support-trump/
The woman she harassed, Asra Nomani, is a Muslim who voted for Trump.
“Yes @AsraNomani I’ve written you off as a human being. Your vote helped normalize Nazis in DC. What don’t you understand, you clueless dolt?” Ms. Fair said in a Nov. 22 tweet.
After Ms. Nomani complained to Georgetown in a Dec. 2 letter, Ms. Fair posted an open letter on Facebook in which she defended her tweets, saying they did not violate Twitter rules, and told her former colleague to “f*** off” and “go to hell.”
Like mockturtle, I knew who got booted. But aside from how obvious it is circumstantially, it's what grammar tells us. The nearest referent is Richard Spencer.
The gym owners looked at Spencer asked themselves, "Is this the hill we want to die on?"
I was in the imaginary gym businesss. It's a tough racket. < drink >
Agreed - except that I hear and read and see DAILY that they are embarrassed that Donald Trump is their president.
They're lying..which is par for the course.
"Is this the hill we want to die on?"
Yeah..a lot of things become acceptable when framed as such.
Will Tiffany Trump put this twat in a tizzy too?
@ walter
If it was your gym, would you have kicked either of them out?
The gym owners looked at Spencer asked themselves, "Is this the hill we want to die on?"
They could have easily looked at her and asked, "Is this the slippery slope we want to start down on?"
I would have told them that was not the place for that discussion/confrontation.
I imagine she would have continued her fit.
At that point, I would boot her out.
Violent democrats at work.
If Christians can't refuse gay customers, gym owners can't refuse white supremacists.
In my imaginary gym I look at Fair and I think, I don't like you. So I give her the boot.
Then I look at Spencer and I think I don't like you either naziboy. Boom. He's out.
Then, just when I'm all riled up and I open this letter from Fen...bad timing Fen.
And Fen, when I gave your box of stinky gym clothes to the red head she put her nose down in there and took a long sniff. When she looked up there were tears in her eyes. What'd you do to that poor kid?
Oh C'mon Bob. You're not going to call Fair a name?
Wonder what her reaction would be here:
https://mobile.twitter.com/DavidBegnaud
I want to correct this Drudge headline: "Comey testimony postponed so can consult with Mueller..."
It should read: "Comey testimony postponed so can conspire with Mueller..."
"At that point, I would boot her out."
Of course it wouldn't end there. You'd be labeled the Nazi gym and at least half your customers would leave and maybe you'd end up closing your doors. And you're not a justice warrior, you're a provide for your family warrior.
Do you want to lose everything sticking up for a guy who thinks the wrong side won the war? Who's just going to use you for his own agenda? Maybe Spencer was minding his own business at that moment, but he chose to become a lightening rod. As the gym owner, you're not obligated to hold his hand when the storm comes in.
As a woman, I find your statements to be particularly odious; moreover, I find your presence in this gym to be unacceptable,
There is a cis normative statement if I ever heard of one.
She's just lucky Spencer isn't a transexual.
A Michigan woman lost her Planet Fitness membership over the "inappropriate" manner in which she complained about a transgender woman in the locker room, a gym spokeswoman said.
Yvette Cormier's membership was not canceled for simply raising the issue, "as we welcome all feedback from our members," said McCall Gosselin, director of public relations at Planet Fitness Corporate.
Rather, it was the manner in which she expressed her concerns that club management felt was inappropriate, resulting in the cancellation, Gosselin said.
Cormier stands by her actions in a case that has drawn attention to transgender rights.
"This is all new to me. I didn't go out to specifically bash a transgender person that day. I was taken aback by the situation," Cormier told CNN. "This is about me and how I felt unsafe. I should feel safe in there."
Typical cis-normative reaction by a hater.
If Spencer had a vagina, that professor would be in deep do do.
I want to correct this Drudge headline: "Comey testimony postponed so can consult with Mueller..."
It should read: "Comey testimony postponed so can conspire with Mueller..."
Alas, I'm sure you're right, David.
'Fair... asked Spencer if he was Richard Spencer, and when he denied it (because he didn't want trouble, she said: "Of course you are, so not only are you a Nazi — you are a cowardly Nazi."'
Is that actually believable? Should we believe it because she said so?
If someone asked me if I were Char Char Binks, in a confrontational way, I'd probably say something like, "Who wants to know?", or "None of your business.", or "Go suck ebola dick and die.", depending on how polite I was feeling.
Once again, we only get the anti-Spencer POV, and it actually makes him seem more like the kind of guy I'd want working out in my gym than the uglier-than-Melissa-Click Professor Fair.
Spencer should have kicked her grubby teeth down her nasty throat. I hope Milo doxes and harasses her to suicide.
Bob Boyd said...

Bob, I'm thinking you're the naziboy. Do you deny it?
"Who's just going to use you for his own agenda?"
That's Fair's game.
If Spencer had a vagina...
It's not too late. Also, it's transgender, not transsexual, which is a twilight belief. He only needs to feign homosexual, bisexual, or cross-over in order to exploit the social leverage of that status. Maybe he's gender fluid. I suppose that's the very definition of bisexual. Pro-Choice.
"That's Fair's game."
They're both in the same game.
DanTheMan:
Christians are not refusing service to transgender/homosexual individuals. They are refusing to normalize or promote the associated behavior. The analogous response in this case is not to deny Spencer a gym membership, but to deny his [class] diversity beliefs. However, in order for this to be reconcilable, they would also need to deny membership to every Democrat and likely leftist who judge individuals by the "color of their skin" under their [class] diversity doctrine. Then there is Pro-Choice/abortion or denying life unworthy. The Nazi speaks.
Boyd,
I admit I don't follow Spencer's activities. Has he confronted and tried to get an individual removed from something equivalent to a gym? Fair's game appears to be things like this...singling out individuals.
Boyd's game is lying and false equivalence.
And Boyd is a prime example of "Who goes Nazi."
The imaginary gym is the sort I like best; the monthly fee is eminently affordable, I become fitter and fitter without too much pain, and the others who did judge me have been kicked out.
I've googled other news stories on the internet about this. What's interesting is that 85% don't mention that Fair is the crazy left-wing nut that was stalking another Georgetown prof and subjecting her to foul abuse for voting for Trump.
What's even odder is that story happened in the last 5 months. But I guess it went down the memory hole, like all bad stories about the Left.
Unfortunately, the benefits are imaginary as well.

Yeah..I too was surprised to find it not mentioned that she is a repeat offender.
If I owned the Gym I would have terminated Spenser and Fair. I'd terminate Spenser because I wouldn't want the headache or risk having a bunch of Leftist creeps picketing me and calling my business a "Nazi Gym".
I'd terminate Fair for creating a scene and making the other customers uncomfortable. Tomorrow, she could scream at someone for wearing a Cross, or saying a prayer. Or having a "Trump is Great" teeshirt.
She's a left-wing shit. I wouldn't want her in my Gym.
Waiter - I guess being a Leftist means never having to say your sorry.
Also, I love how she's as whitebread as they come, but she's speaking for "the people of color".
Lefties always do that. They're honorary black people and can speak for them. They can even call people like Judge Thomas "uncle tom's"
Because being a Lefty means you're never racist.
Well..even when it's of no relevance, she thinks her gender is a card to play. Sadly, she is an "educator" of sorts...regarding diplomacy of all things!
What's the name of the gym? Seems something that should be part of the article.

As a woman, I find your statements to be particularly odious; moreover, I find your presence in this gym to be unacceptable...
That's a perfectly reasonable thing to say... if you own the gym.
She owned it.
Professor Fair speaks for herself on her own website:
"...She resigned her membership with the International Institute of Strategic Studies to protest its consistent failure to address diversity issues.
She is a many-time survivor of the University of Chicago."
"...She can cause trouble in multiple languages."

"This is where I post snarcastic missives based upon the shit men (and sometimes women ) say to me via email, voicemail and comments "deposited" on my various social media. No.You can't make up this shit...."
First example:
"This missive just came in from Larry Reddell:
“I think syphilis has damaged your brain, “professor”“
Larry (whose facebook profile is here... is a retired 70-yr old who lives in Fresno California. He retired from the IRS no less. (Which explains some things about the IRS, no?)
He fancies himself knowledgeable about liberals and sharia law, yet it is clearly ignorant on both counts as the attached pic of his post attests.
His phone numbers are: ...
His email address are: -..
And this bitch was just OWNED."

'I anticipate being kicked out from our gym, Old Town Sport & Health in Alexandria, VA, because I confronted Richard Spencer, aka the Neo Nazi who has moved his hate operations to Alexandria Virginia.
First, I want to note that this man is a supreme coward. When I approached this flaccid, sorry excuse of a man and asked ‘Are you Richard Spencer,“ this pendulous poltroon said "No. I am not.” But of course he was...'
'Second, I exploited the full range of my first amendment entitlements by telling him that this country does not belong to white men. As a white woman, I find his membership at this gym to be unacceptable. I found his membership at this gym to be an unfair burden upon the women and people of color–and white male allies of the same. I also loudly identified him as a neo-Nazi who has said, inter alia, the below detailed things.
Third, as the attached photo attests, this pusillanimous shitbird actually requested one of the African American Female Trainers to help him escape from my confronting him. Seriously? This superior race of a white man needed the help of a female African American? What kind of martial race member is he?
To my abject horror–a white woman defended him and yelled at me for making a scene and threatned (SIC) to call the police to which I said “Do it. I’m not breaking the law.” She claimed that she had no idea who he was and expressed indifference to the same. I told her that when she googles this wretch, she should be ashamed of herself and apologize to me and every employee at this gym who must suffer the indignities of treating this man like a civilized person when he is orthogonal to a civilized person. He a hateful, white supremacist who has no place in this century..much less our gym.'

I checked out her tumblr and she just doxxed a dude. This broad is off her meds.

Yeah..this is the point where people post links without reading that its been covered upthread..
Sounds like the type of mentally unhinged individual that frequents college campuses, a person taught the delusion of never suffering consequences. I don't waste my time inquiring about a person's politics at the gym and I certainly don't think I have the right to dictate who is acceptable and unacceptable.
Diagnosis: Borderline Personality Disorder.
Clearly. This disorder is becoming increasingly common, especially in the academic community. In particular, 'Studies' departments.
Why was the person who got confronted terminated?
You mean, aside from the fact that he's a Nazi?
This place really is becoming quite the white supremacist shop, BTW. Sad.
I wouldn't want a neo-nazi in my gym, if I were a member or if I were the owner. Neo-nazis are either nuts or bad people, or both. Good riddance!
Also, I don't think it's good that people are defending Richard Spencer. The guy is a bad person. He's an anti-Semite, and he even seems to admire Hitler. In America, he has a right to be a jerk, and that of course is the way it should be -- but we also have the right to disapprove of him and shun him.
@TTR: The question isn't whether Spencer is a Nazi but rather is it right and proper (or legal) that she got to throw him out.
Cf. Skokie.
The Toothless Reactionary: thanks, I appreciate your standing up for decency and common sense. This comment thread is pretty disturbing.
Chickelit: I'd be surprised if the contract for gym membership didn't have some sort of clause which could be interpreted as disallowing neo-nazi activities.
"This place really is becoming quite the white supremacist shop"
Oh fuck off. You don't have to be a Nazi symp to say she was forcing a scene to push her SJW "ShitMenSay" agenda.

Based on what? Your own musings? Seek out the membership agreements anywhere. Let us know if you find a single instance of that.
Btw, the owner of this gym would be pointing to a contract if that were the case.
"So who is the real Nazi here?"
False dichotomy.
She's more a Nazi than he is. And the place this happened? Hope it burn to the ground. Disgusting company.
Big anger issues with Fair. Bringing down her school's reputation. I guess she has tenure but that is not a license to be a free-range asshole. Maybe she's trying to provoke Georgetown into giving her both martyrdom and a fat check to go away.
Matthew Goggins: The self-admiration comes off your post in shimmering waves.
Owen: Thanks for the ad hominem attack. It simplifies the debate, since you lose by default, thank you for playing.
Walter: Based on the fact that most gyms, especially ones that are part of a larger network, have contracts filled with the all the usual boilerplate language that allows management a certain amount of latitude to deal with disruptive or otherwise unwelcome members.
That's not to say it was 100% legal to give Mr. Spencer the heave-ho, but there is probably at least enough wiggle-room that no lawyer would be willing to take on Mr. Spencer's case.
Well, at least we know who the intolerant people are, don't we?
"Not tolerating intolerance" means the opposite of what most people think it means. It is an announcement, proudly made, that a person will not tolerate something. Christine Fair is so intolerant that she will not tolerate being the member of a club that shows toleration.
Well Matthew, I've never belonged to a gym. Assuming you have, do indulge us with said boilerplate example.understanding no offensive activities were undertaken in the gym...(excluding Fair's confrontation)
I wonder how many people support [class] diversity: judging and discriminating between people based on the "color of their skin", and Pro-Choice/abortion or selective-child: denying life unworthy. Perhaps immigration reform and refugee crises forced by elective wars. Something embraced and advocated by the mainstream left and anti-nativists. The Washington Post seems to be a platform for dissemination of their progressive liberal ideology.
Lewis Wetzel:
Professor, C. Christine Fair, of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, outed Spencer, despite his best effort to keep his mouth shut about his and her belief in [class] diversity.
I've belonged to seven different gyms. I'm not saying the contract says Spencer can be booted out, I'm saying there is probably a clause, "Member should not be disruptive -- yada, yada, yada, " that could be stretched to cover neo-nazi activities outside of the gym itself.
You've asked me twice for specific examples of such language. I respectfully suggest that if you are so interested, you may wish to research a few contracts yourself. I'm not your lawyer, I'm just making some fairly simple and non-controversial points in a comment thread.
You can believe what I'm saying or not, your choice. Thank you for the healthy skepticism, but how about using it against neo-nazis instead of for them? If you were the owner of a fitness center, would you invite Mr. Spencer to join it because you feel sorry for him?
Ahh..there it is: "If you were the owner of a fitness center, would you invite Mr. Spencer to join it because you feel sorry for him?"
It is so boilerplate you have to imagine it and send me to look fo it. And the owner just might have invited Spencer to join..just like all folks with a mailing address in that area.
Maybe it would be helpful to view Spencer's views as a variable...an O..for offensive..viewpoint.
You have the Fair folk sussing out the O's and exposing them to get them banned from public interaction.
Feel just?
Okay, Walter, you've won this time. I no longer understand what you are saying. However, to address what I think you might be saying: I'm not imagining anything -- I'm just pointing out that if you really want an answer to your question, it is just as easy for you to do the research as it is for me, so go for it. Also, it is not relevant if the owner invited Richard Spencer to join. The owner didn't know who Spencer was until the professor told him.
So would you invite Mr. Spencer to join your gym if you had one? If you feel he was being treated unfairly, then you would be willing to help him out if you could, right?
Sorry Matthew if you can't follow.
But no..I would not specifically invite Spencer..should I have one of these "imaginary" gyms spoken of upthread.
The point is who is fucking up my gym business by causing a "ruckus". In this case it's the Fair lady.
By the way, you can transpose any Trump offspring into the O category...would flip Fair's lid.
Thanks, Walter, have a good night.
Woman: "ARREST HIM!"
Thomas More: "For what?"
Woman: "He's bad!!!"
Good to know!! I am learning everyday from liberal, that if I throw temper tantrums, I will get my way!! It is time to turn the dial...and start having temper tantrums whenever Democrats are in office, or if a speaker is a democrat I disagree with. This is going to be so much fun!!! Thanks for teaching me how to act in this new America that Barack Obama ushered in!!
Why is it that only liberals matter??? http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/mich-woman-loses-gym-membership-transgender-complaint-article-1.2141255
Looks like women need their own gyms.
