Whoa, those trees on the left and right of the house. Jeepers !!
Mission Bells. I bet Meade planted the bulbs.
I love fritillaries, and I've never had any success growing them. Okay, Meade, what's the trick?
That looks quite summery over there, heh. We're having hot summer-like weather in SoCal.
Fritillaria meleagris. Cercis canadensis. Amelanchier. Phew.
Those are mighty big trees you grew there, Meade. May I inquire as to your ferilizer?
The serviceberry was planted in November 2009 (on the same day as the elm that you see at the far left of the photo). Here's the post showing the planting. Lots of really nice comments on it.

Redbuds are my very favorite flowering tree - I love that the flowers are right on the branches; and I love that they're really pinkish purple, not red at all.
The house is 94 years old.

The tree on the right side of the photo is an oak. The one on the other side is actually an ash tree, which Meade kind of wanted to have removed, but he was talked into just having it trimmed quite a lot.
There is a bigger oak tree in the back yard. Basically, there are a lot of old trees in this neighborhood, some identified as dating back to the Revolutionary War era. Meade says we live in a forest.
A good-looking yard, indeed.

Had a lot to do with why I bought the house I did.
We had two ash trees in the side yard. Took one down because it was right in the path. Broke my heart but had to do it.
My house is only dated to 1973 but there are houses here that go back to 1927. My lawyer's office is in a 1907 house.
Downtown and makes a very nice legal office.

Then you need to drive up I 68 from Cumberland MD to Morgantown WV in spring. The are whole hillsides of Redbud in bloom.
The main part of my late sister's house was mentioned in a document from 1535.

My friends in England live in which has a back garden wall made from the original Roman wall of the city.
The house is gorgeous and they have had no trouble with the preservationists but the house next door was bought by a woman for a million pounds. She then turned her architect son or daughter loose on it. They made no effort to talk to the city preservation people. The city is over a thousand years old.
The house stands vacant after two years.
The ruins of Chicester Castle can be seen in the distance from my sister's house.
