"do we have any witnesses who saw these 30 year old white men with beards and work boots voting for Trump?" I'll be a witness. Saw two of them at my polling place, right ahead of me. Never seen them in my neck of the woods before, which isn't that big. One was told he was at the wrong polling station, and got instructions about where to go and what to do. Though I resisted extrapolating from the anecdote, I sensed then, in the morning, that something was happening. Of course, they didn't tell me they were voting for Trump, but I took a wild guess.
Based on what I saw in my own neighborhood (suburban area in a southern state that (surprisingly to some people) was won by Trump, I think she's more or less correct.
The college educated white men at the office where I work all voted for Hillary. The guy with the work truck up the street had a Trump/Pence sign out front of his duplex for months. The work boots and jeans guy I saw getting into his car after buying a 12 pack of beer at the 7/11 after work had a Trump sticker on his car. That sort of thing. Now some of these guys might have a college education, too, they're just not working in jobs that would require it I don't think.
Obviously not scientific, just my own observations.
“And I’m kind of frustrated with some of the Madison insiders who constantly run cookie cutter campaigns, and they don’t realize a campaign in a rural area is very different,” Vinehout said. “If you’ve got a candidate who’s really in that area, who does the parades and the chicken dinners … It’s much better than talking with wealthy people and putting a lot of money into TV ads or direct mailers.”
-- She can't even analyze how Trump did well without sounding patronizing.
I believe there is only one nation in the world with a constitution, described by its supporters as "progressive", that establishes institutional class diversity/racism as a matter of law. Perhaps the only one ever to enjoy that notorious achievement.
Her Senate district is rural. She sounds pissed Trump got some new people to register to vote and to actually vote. Trump flipped most of the counties in her district from 2012 Obama to 2016 Trump. These aren't Romney folks
Reading the story at the link, I don't think she meant for it to be insulting. But it sure came across as patronizing, which indicates to me she's going to have a little problem appealing to working class democrats. Tim
I see the Wisconsin state senate and assembly is even more Republican after the 2016 elections. In the state senate, one Dem incumbent was beaten and another Dem incumbent is only up by 56 votes with a recount looming. It will be either 20-13 or 21-12 GOP in the senate. In the assembly, one Dem incumbent lost to make it 64-35 GOP.
Vinehout had the 2nd closest WI state senate race in 2014, winning with 52.6% of the vote. Maybe she should be a little more careful in stereotyping her constituents if she hopes to get re-elected.
Imagine if Trump lost, and some GOP state senator said they saw lots of typical Clinton voters . . . black guys in hoodies. Or girls with tattoos. Shit storm!
Nichols suggested that several Clinton campaign missteps, including her failure to visit Wisconsin during the campaign, may have cost her the state.Nichols suggested that several Clinton campaign missteps, including her failure to visit Wisconsin during the campaign, may have cost her the state.
Ya think? Maybe all that debate prep wasn't such a good idea after all.
An interesting article would be Hillary's schedule day by day after the Democratic convention.
My "Work Boots" were issued to me by the US Navy. While I am indeed white, I am also what is commonly known as a "Stake Holder", i.e., a Tax Payer who has both contributed to "the system" and worked to support it. Parasites be damned!
In that one picture, she looked like a younger, less attractive Janet Reno.......It's impossible to make a catty remark about the appearance of your opponents. If you're good looking, it sounds arrogant. If you're homely, the listener say look who's talking.......The better path is to praise them as men who look like they know about hard work.
There are other classes of "typical" Trump voters. There are the educated women who were fighting the good fight for women's rights back in the early 1970s and who would like to see a female President of the United States, but OMG!!! NOT HILLARY!!!
There are Ph.D. mathematicians. I am aware that the set of Ph.D. mathematicians who voted for Trump is not null.
There are that fraction of the Millennials on whom it has dawned that they are not only underemployed (if employed at all) but will continue to be underemployed unless and until the economy gets turned around. And they didn't trust Hillary to accomplish that.
I have observed that many post-menopausal women start to look like men. But it's not the estrogen---it's their choice in style. They seem to lose their femininity, perhaps in the misguided attempt to look 'professional'. It's one reason I keep my hair shoulder-length instead of short, like 95% of women my age.
IMHO, a woman looks more businesslike in a simply-styled dress than in a pantsuit. I always thought Carly Fiorina looked both professional and feminine.
My favorite part of this election has been listening to people mouth togetherness platitudes when they were sure to win, and then watching those same people shrieking in red-faced hatred when it didn't happen.
She just described all the male hipsters, both gay and straight, in my very progressive neighborhood - sometimes referred to as the "gay ghetto", as opposed to the more affluent gay neighborhoods here in Long Beach, CA. And, I'm pretty sure none of them voted for Trump.
Oh, the answer is the same as it was for Brexit. The Good People simply didn't explain to us clearly enough how all of their opponents were lowlife racist xenophobes. If they had just stated a little more emphatically that I was stupid and evil for disliking Hillary Clinton, I would have been persuaded. I mean, really? These people thought that was a good way to get people to vote for them?
I have to admit I fell for it to some degree. I thought Trump was awful and expected he would be wiped out in a landslide. I've voted Libertarian in maybe the last 5 presidential elections so none of this was going to affect my vote anyway, and I took great pleasure in almost totally ignoring the whole presidential campaign. But now that it is over.... I find to my surprise that I'm delighted and relieved that Trump won. Never thought I'd say THAT.
Depending on what area I'm in, if I see work boots I sometimes see boots that have been, you know, worked in, and sometimes I see 'work' boots that are still pristine. And expensive. Saw my first lumbersexual this past summer [at a vegan coffeehouse -- what the heck, it has great coffee and great craft beers and the hipsters leave me alone] and I liked to spit it was so funny. The guy was so freakin' SERIOUS about his look. I would have loved to hand him my double bit axe [not razor sharp, but very sharp indeed] and see if he could use it without cutting anything off his body.

The big fact of the week, however, has to do with these words: They don’t like us. The Democrats, progressives and left-liberals who have been embarrassed by the latest WikiLeaks dump really hate conservatives, or nonleftists. They don’t like half the people of the country they seek to control! They look at that half with disdain and disrespect. Their disdain is not new—“bitter clingers,” “basket of deplorables.” But here it’s so unashamed and eager to express itself.
...
Here’s what you see in the emails: the writers are the worst kind of snobs, snobs with nothing to recommend them. In their expression and thoughts they are common, banal, dumb, uninformed, parochial.
I don’t know about you but when people look down on me I want them to be distinguished or outstanding in some way—towering minds, people of exquisite sensibility or learning. Not these grubbly poseurs, these people who’ve never had a thought but only a sensation: Christians are backward, I saw it in a movie!
It’s the big fact of American life now, isn’t it? That we are patronized by our inferiors.

racial profiling

Work boots. Check.
Men. Check.
White men. Check.
Insufficient class diversity.
Did she mention deplorable?
methinks Scott Walker is safe
She would be terribly surprised to see both me and my husband then.
It's best to leave the fuzzy beard to your husband.
Typical Clinton/Coakley style Democrat.
do we have any witnesses who saw these 30 year old white men with beards and work boots voting for Trump?
maybe they are socialists who think they're making America great again
innocent politically unaware socialists! it could happen!
Maybe they are Philosophy professors who were simply back from working their communal organic farm.
Haha look at her picture! Gee somehow I knew she was gonna look like that.

Hold on to sixty as long as you can
Changes come around real soon
Make women into men
You go girl!
Was she one of the bolters to Illinois?
#AndThatsHowYouGetTrump
Awesome insight. Do they drink coffee or tea? Sugar, one lump or two?
That reminds me. It's time to shave.

Well then I guess you can't pin this one on men in shorts.
Somebody unimportant said something stupid.
Noted.
This is the uniform for Seattle / Portland metrosexuals, all in for Hillary like all Sensitive Guys. She should get out of Wisconsin.
judged by the "color of their skin" rather than the content of their character
One step forward. Two steps back.

Here's Vinehout putting air quotes around something, probably potential candidate. Or maybe she's just doing her Tyrannosaurus schtick.
Class diversity. One step forward. Two steps back.
Says the manly looking, fat, middle-aged Hillary supporter in a business suit.
Who probably couldn't open a can of beans without help.
Hey, profiling is fun!
I believe there is only one nation in the world with a constitution, described by its supporters as "progressive", that establishes institutional class diversity/racism as a matter of law. Perhaps the only one ever to enjoy that notorious achievement.
I can picture her with work boots and a fuzzy beard.
So Penis envy has become facial hair envy. And isn't flaunting white skin a racist hate crime.
I cannot believe this level of dumbness roams about in Wisconsin.
What's wrong with white men in work boots and fuzzy beards? Would it be better if the were clean shaven, wore Nikes and were unemployed? How arrogant.
Her Senate district is rural. She sounds pissed Trump got some new people to register to vote and to actually vote. Trump flipped most of the counties in her district from 2012 Obama to 2016 Trump. These aren't Romney folks
Wisconsin Democrats plan to run Mary Burke again for governor.

Wisconsin really is a turning into a red state.
Kevin practically shrieked his support for Hillary
60 million of those? I gotta figure out what these guys need and start a business.
Trumperjacks: gold antifungal socks, with a pussy grabbing glove in every package - For her pleasure. They love it. $19.95
but wait, there's more...

Nah, keep the racist comments coming Kathleen!
This Trump voter has work boots, a MSc, and more guns than a Tacoma high school. So you never can tell.

Walker is praying she wins the nomination.
I want to know garage's take on this. (really)
Y'all better watch out. Them there deplorables in muddy work boots have been known to kick some effete little tea sipper in the backside.
As opposed to the Madison Ave.(not to confuse Madison WI. snowflakes, that's in NYC) hipsters in beards/flannel/basement pallor!
My "Work Boots" were issued to me by the US Navy. While I am indeed white, I am also what is commonly known as a "Stake Holder", i.e., a Tax Payer who has both contributed to "the system" and worked to support it. Parasites be damned!
I also like how the Wisconsin Dems are wondering how Clinton lost, while they got their ass kicked across the board.
She and Keith Ellison Muhammed should get along just fine.
The Democrats are just turning up the Titanic's engines to full throttle.
Sound like the 'lumbersexuals' I see in L.A.'s Silver Lake district.
If an ankle subsumed by a calf is a "cankle", then what is a jaw line subsumed by a neck?
A "jeck" or a "naw line"?

For God's sake, don't interrupt her while she's making a mistake...

I like the smell of aplomb in the morning.
Actually, she has at least some (some) awareness of the situation. But wouldn't an equally narrow characterization of a Hil' voter get ya ___?
Her looks would totally be improved by a fuzzy beard.
And maybe a work boot in the teeth.
My favorite part of this election has been listening to people mouth togetherness platitudes when they were sure to win, and then watching those same people shrieking in red-faced hatred when it didn't happen.

I voted for Trump, wearing bib overalls (Dickies), and tennis shoes. No facial hair.
They wear work boots because they... y'know ... work.
"...with work boots and fuzzy beards in their early 30s..."
That pretty much describes every Madison lesbian. Well if you add fat, flannel, and tats and piercings.
Hataz gotta h8

I believe there was a big "fuck you" vote for Trump. As Peggy Noonan wrote in the WSJ:
The big fact of the week, however, has to do with these words: They don’t like us. Hey, Democrats, you need to stop digging now.
With comments like that, the democrats shouldn't be surprised when Walker is re-elected again. They really do live in their own filter bubbles.
