Bob Dylan snubs Obama.

"Bob Dylan won’t be attending President Obama’s meet-and-greet on Wednesday with American Nobel Prize winners, the White House said."

ADDED: "Try to be pure at heart, they arrest you for robbery/Mistake your shyness for aloofness, your silence for snobbery..."

Don't think twice, it's alright.

paminwi म्हणाले...

Oh no! Well, here come the calls that Bob Dylan is racist for not showing up in 3....2.....1!

D. B. Light म्हणाले...

I never cared much for Dylan or any of the folkie folk stuff, but he's starting to grow on me.

Unknown म्हणाले...

Way back in the day someone interviewed Bob Dylan and asked him about younger men burning their draft cards and he said they shouldn't be doing that. The horror, a countercultural icon with the occasional conservative sentiment!

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Let us not talk falsely now, your term is getting late.

Danno म्हणाले...

I just saw this on Fox News and thought I'd see if you had posted anything on this. He is showing a cantankerous side these days. Like DB Light above, he is starting to grow on me.

Patrick म्हणाले...

You'd want him to be skeptical of the enterprise.

You're not aware of the rules apparently.

I'll bet he would meet him out on Highway 61.

snub. VERB 1. rebuff, ignore, or spurn disdainfully: Link.

Amexpat म्हणाले...

Doubt it's a snub in the sense of showing disdain or making some sort of statement about Obama. More likely he's uncomfortable with the Nobel Prize hullabaloo.

madAsHell म्हणाले...

Somewhere, I noted that Dylan told the Nobel committee that he "would be there, if at all possible", and then pulled a no-show.

Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the football. I always enjoy watching that stuff.

Meade म्हणाले...

Well, you can run down to the White House
You can gaze at the Capitol Dome, pretty mama
You can pound on the President’s gate
But you oughta know by now it’s gonna be too late

SukieTawdry म्हणाले...

He apparently cared enough about his Presidential Medal of Freedom (awarded by Obama) to go pick it up. And he showed up at his Kennedy Honors celebration. He's appeared in person (or by satellite) to accept other awards and honors. Maybe he just doesn't think much of this one. Or maybe he'd feel awkward and a little foolish among the chemists, physicists and economists. Or maybe he enjoys having us take notice and ponder his inscrutable self. Or maybe he's just being Dylan.

mockturtle म्हणाले...

Didn't you tell him what a 'lovely man' Obama is?

Dude1394 म्हणाले...

Me Dylan continues to move up in my estimation.

Sebastian म्हणाले...

"Didn't you tell him what a 'lovely man' Obama is?" I guess he doesn't advance-miss Obama, unlike some of his fans. If so, good for him.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"Bob Dylan snubs Obama."

I'm sorry. O-who?

285exp म्हणाले...

Maybe Dylan figured that the whole Nobel Prize thing was devalued, since Obama got one without having done anything to earn it. Must not be that hard.

Lance म्हणाले...

Is he snubbing the President or just downplaying the Nobel prize, as he's done all along?

dwick म्हणाले...

...just another one of those haters and critics hounding poor, beset Obama.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves म्हणाले...

I'm liking this Bob fella.

Meade म्हणाले...

Bob might even be a birther. Note: He not busy being born is busy dying.. Does Bob only go to restaurants and bars that have Fox News on? If so, I think we have our answer: Bob Dylan is a prejudiced intolerant bigot who's responsible for the Democrat party losing political power over the last 8 years.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Don't tell anyone but Bob is still a Messianic Jew.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves म्हणाले...

Bob is powerful.

Meade म्हणाले...

He is. And this isn't even the first time Bob has snubbed the president. It's widely known but little talked of: Obama tapped Bob to be his Secretary of State back in '08. Bob said no, O said what? Bob said you can't have everything you want, O, but the next time you see Hillary, ask her. I gotta run.

Bob is STILL pissed about trying to enroll in Obamacare the day the website went live. Remember how slick that thing worked?

ken in tx म्हणाले...

Traditional Guy, I never heard of Bob Dylan being a Messianic Jew before. Not all Jews who accept Jesus as the Messiah are Messianic Jews. I know of at least three different types. Jews who convert to Christianity and stop going to Synagogue and observing Jewish customs are one group. They are not considered Jews anymore at all--except maybe by Nazis. Jews who accept Jesus (Yeshua) as the true Jewish Messiah and the Son of God are another group. They have their own Synagogues and Rabbis, and follow all traditional Jewish customs and holidays--with a New Testament Scroll added to the Torah. Another group accepts Jesus as the Messiah, but not the Son of God, and merely a Prophet equal to Moses. Which one does Bob fall in?

David म्हणाले...

Suddenly Dylan's motives are scrutable? I don't think so.

bgates म्हणाले...

I don't see what the big deal is - even if he is a Nobel laureate, the fact is he's a has-been who's famous only because a bunch of hippies unaccountably consider his blathering to be profound, and I understand why Dylan doesn't want anything to do with him.

George Leroy Tirebiter म्हणाले...

Not surprised at all. Most everything I've read over the years from Dylan himself talking politics and from others who actually knew him on a day-to-day basis all point to conservatism, in the old school working guy sense.

lemondog म्हणाले...

Eh, he oughter go and do a repeat of 2010 and sing "The Times They Are A-Changin", attired in a 'deplorable' t-shirt.

Unknown म्हणाले...

Dylan is astute enough and brave enough to avoid a ceremony that, in reality, will be another Obamagasm instead of truly honoring the deserving folks.

Unknown म्हणाले...

Bob Dylan was a good friend and an admirer of Johnny Cash so that's all I need to know that he's a fine American.

Comanche Voter म्हणाले...

I think Dylan is recycling the old Groucho Marx idea; he looks at who's"in the club" i.e. our Nobel Peace Prize winning Presidentk, and decides he doesn't want to join---or at least join that subset of American Nobel Prize winners who will party with each other at Obama's direction. He's telling Obozo, that ain't me Babe! You're not the one I want Babe, you're not the one I need.

Bill31 म्हणाले...

Dylan is one of those fellows upon whom much is projected. He is widely presumed to be some sort of leftist, but hasn't shown the evidence. He is against war (particularly its mechanized horrors) – but not for the enemy. Much of his stuff is personal. I believe that the only politician he ever spoke of favorably was Barry Goldwater.

William म्हणाले...

bgates, you got me with that one.

mikee म्हणाले...

Dylan isn't attending the Nobel awards ceremony because of "other commitments."

Here's hoping he fulfills the requirement to get his Nobel monetary award along with the medal: he must present a Nobel Lecture within 6 months of the awarding. I am unsure if he has to do so at some particular location or to some Nobel-associated group, or if just standing up for 5 minutes and riffing at a concert venue would suffice. But the award is close to a million bucks, so let's hope his manager (Does he have one? I'd suppose so!) pencils something in so Bob gets his medal and the cash.

For the record a Messianic Jew is a Jew that has a relationship with the Messiah. They are still 100% Jewish and have only gained a knowledge of the Son of David, a/k/a the Messiah.

Let's make sure Bob fulfills the requirements to get his Nobel payday! Call, text or email these fine managers, agents, lawyers to insure Dylan's legacy as recipient of the Nobel!
