"Mr. Sanders... was in a bittersweet but resolute mood on Tuesday, according to his advisers, as he took the stage with Mrs. Clinton...."

"[H]e came around grudgingly to supporting her, the advisers said. But he was also determined to make a strong case against Mr. Trump and, in doing so, champion Mrs. Clinton as the only chance to defeat him.... One person close to Mr. Sanders said that the senator and his wife, Jane, were 'putting on a good face' on Tuesday, but that they were disappointed that his campaign had not been more successful after he gave it so much of his energy and rallied millions of people around his ideas.... Still, Mr. Sanders uttered the words that Mrs. Clinton needed him to say — 'I am endorsing Hillary Clinton.'"

From the NYT report "Bernie Sanders Endorses Hillary Clinton, Hoping to Unify Democrats," by Amy Chozick, Patrick Healy, and Yamiche Alcindor. They include Trump's cutting reaction: “Bernie is now officially a part of a rigged system" for "endorsing one of the most pro-war, pro-Wall Street, and pro-offshoring candidates in the history of the Democratic Party."

Williams & Connolly destroyed the emails and even the FBI could not reconstruct or find the emails. That's the real story.

Warren, Comey, Sanders. One by one they sell out to the power of the invisible people who baked in the Clinton nomination before the first primary vote was cast.

Good line. But wait. Is he saying hawkish, free-tradish cons with retirement funds should vote for the felon?

rcocean म्हणाले...

Trump has it absolutely correct. Bernie just proves once again that all the Left's talk about "imperial wars" and "rule of the 2 percent" or helping the working class is BS.

Liberal/Leftists always drop all their so-called principles to support a fellow Democrat - no matter how corrupt and illiberal they are.

Who the hell are they? If you can find any, you'll see that most are Nevertrumpers or voting Libertarian.

Sanders got 80% of what he wanted on the platform. He's also pulling Clinton to the left which is great. Clinton capitulated on the minimum wage of $15.00 and a public option for healthcare. Those are two pretty big victories. Democrats have united. Can't say the same for Republicans.

Jaq म्हणाले...

Hawkish free traders with a heavy investment in bank stocks definitely should vote for Hillary.

Offshoring and inshoring, too... and, of course, abortion rites, and channeling Mengele (i.e. Planned Parenthood et al). The scope of the unified Democrat Party's trans-social, trans-human policies is unprecedented. The opiates are that good.

United behind a war monger who has made scores of millions off of bankers, the Saudis, in return for killing Keystone XL, the Russians, in return for a deal which allows them to lock up North American uranium.

The Democrats have sold out their values.

Illegal progressive wars. Opportunistic regime changes. Anti-native policies (e.g. refugee crises). Make abortion, not life.

United behind a woman of limited understanding who thought killing Qaddafy was a wonderful plan. How many refugees have drowned this week trying to escape the "shit show" as Obama calls Libya, that she created?

But Bernie is a bombastic blowhard, so dear me, sell out everything we believe!

Jaq म्हणाले...

Sorry, Trump is the bombastic blowhard. Bernie is just one more sell out.

Trump's funny. He excoriates Sanders for falling in behind the Democratic nominee while also excoriating all Republican candidates who fail to fall into line behind his own candidacy. But since he does not really understand party politics, can't expect more from him. It's all about him.

n.n म्हणाले...

Great plan. Creative destruction. Redistribute and inflate capital in order to compensate for progressive debt and economic misalignment. Can't they just "choose" or "plan" some more of the expensive native lives and reduce the divisor, and simultaneously increase Democrat revenue?

Bernie just proved his absolute inability to be a leader or President of the very platform he promoted.

This capitulation is embarrassing. Or should be. It doesn't matter if it was "begrudging". You should never "begrudgingly" endorse a candidate when you yourself were not a compromise candidate. It just shows your inherent weakness.

Sanders is 74 years old. Why take one for the team? At his age you can croak 15 years from now or next week. The best part of old age with enough of a retirement is supposed to be the ability to tell the world to FU. He blew that. And for what? A crooked fascist? He would have garnered a lot more respect if he endorsed the Green Party. He is still a Senator and the Democrats in Congress will still need him so he had nothing to lose by not endorsing Clinton. Sanders has a brother who is a Labor MP in Britain. Even though the current Labor Party head is an old school Bolshevik and doesn't have a prayer of becoming PM he is still hanging tough in spite of demands he step down. Lesson to Sanders ought to be stick to your (albeit misguided) principles (especially when you have nothing to lose) and gain respect.

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton extended her lead over Republican rival Donald Trump to 13 percentage points in a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Tuesday, up from 10 points at the end of last week.

The July 8-12 poll showed 46 percent of likely voters supported Clinton, the former secretary of state, while 33 percent supported Trump, a celebrity real estate developer. Another 21 percent did not support either candidate.

This isn't news, though I figured he'd wait until the convention to do this where he could get maximum attention and a big speech out of it. I suppose he's coming out early now that the platform was drafted for his leftist goodie bag, so he can save face and say that his candidacy was about moving the party (and its ultimate nominee) to the left. This way, he can pretend not to be a sellout.

The thing is, Hillary's lip-service to leftism is about as convincing as Trump's lip-service to rightism--both are known for turning on those who trust them, and put themselves and their ambitions first, so all of this is pretty meaningless. Sanders though can at least claim some symbolic victory, and now by endorsing Hillary he can avoid looking like Ralph Nader. If she loses to Trump, it won't be due to Sanders.

For Trump's part, he would do well to knock off this attempt to appeal to the Sanders Swampies--first, because leftist agitators aren't going to support him (the fact that he's not much of a conservative doesn't mean they'll go for him) and second because he has a better shot at consolidating conservative votes (many conservatives will back the devil they don't know over the devil they do--Hillary is at least promising leftism).

I'd figured a Cruz-Sanders race would have been a stark, open choice of two clear and distinct directions for the country--unapologetic conservatism vs. unapologetic democratic socialism. Now, Trump/Clinton is two grifters of no set ideology doing a wily pantomime that ultimately will say little about what the people want in this country.

Though fold he did--clearly, all his problems with Hillary are going by the wayside in the service of supporting Team Blue this fall.

Sanders has made several references to Hitler being popularly elected. He once said that the election of Hitler is what made him take up poli sci as his college major.
Why does Sanders assume that if the elites had their way, they wouldn't have chosen Hitler? In the early 30s, many of the elites in the US thought that Germany was a model for the US. In Germany in 1932, the alternative to fascism wasn't social democracy, it was Stalinism.
At any rate, the idea that the people make mistakes unless their betters explain to them how they should vote is self-serving bullshit. How many of Sanders generation believed that Vietnam was a mess not because the commies were taking it over, but because the US tried to stop the commies from taking it over?
