Blue chairs in the rain.

IMG_1160

Just now, in Madison, Wisconsin, where it's 60° (but they say it will be 90+ tomorrow and the next day). For now, we're enjoying the cool, with all the windows open.

Ireland or Wisconsin? It's hard to tell this year...but there is no way The Professor flew to Galway Bay for a Guinness Stout.

I see that Nancy Pelosi says Steve Jobs didn't invent the iPhone. Gummint did. Uh huh. Fur sure.

Mark Steyn on Rush is laying into judges, at 40 minutes into the first hour.

This prostration before judges is disgraceful, he says.

90 for a forecast high tomorrow is a stretch. Saturday will likely break 90....

...unless it rains, and when it's hot and humid, it's hard to predict more than a couple hours in advance where the showers will develop.

That blue with that green ... ruining your feng shui. Jolting.

Mid 40s here, snowflakes in the mountains. I turned on the heat, I wish I had a fireplace in my office.

The wife and I were in Tangier on Tuesday, the first day of Ramadan, to buy a couple of rugs. I was a little apprehensive, considering it was Ramadan, but unnecessarily so. People were great and we had a good lunch in the medina at a nice restaurant overlooking the harbor. Interesting thing to me, though, was the fact that Morroco advances clocks one hour for a summer Ramadan to help people deal with the heat. Also, saw a lot of young kids eating and drinking during the day, which was unexpected. By 5 pm the markets were chockablock with people buying stuff for dinner and eager for the sun to go down so they could cook it. Reminded me a lot of catholics and fish on Friday. Maybe there's hope afterall.

Nothing clever or snarky to say...just want to express sincere admiration for how awesomely that plant material is filling in. Things look great.

At least 47 of the 55,000 emails Clinton turned over to the State Department contained the words “B3 CIA PERS/ORG,” the Associated Press reported Wednesday, indicating that the email contained information on CIA personnel or the agency itself. The tranche of emails from the private server were from the time period when Clinton served as secretary of state.

Heaven help us if Valerie Plame was mentioned in any of these emails!

What a beautiful yard! What does Meade use to keep the slugs out of the hostas?

Flew back to Madison last week for my mother's 80th birthday. Why did they get rid of the bridge between Humanities and Vilas? Was super useful when I was a student there.

MadisonMan বলেছেন...

@steve, I think it needed too-expensive repairs. That's my recollection.

"What a beautiful yard! What does Meade use to keep the slugs out of the hostas?"

He said he "let's the birds eat them." And: "Why worry about them? They're just part of the ecosystem."

If he was worried, he'd use "diatomaceous earth."

And "You can drive yourself crazy worrying about every little pest."

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

"Why did they get rid of the bridge between Humanities and Vilas?"

I think the whole Humanities Building is going to be demolished, so the bridge destruction is just phase 1.

We like coy dogs to handle the deer that eat our hostas. They are all part of the ecosystem.

I come here for the political and cultural insights, but, I must say, one of my favorite things about the place is Meade's gardening tips.

Meade, how do you keep the arch so tidy between the grass and the plants? I don't see any tacky plastic edging, or expensive concrete curbing.

As an immigrant to Texas and an admirer of Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger," I hope your blue chairs aren't cryin' in the rain.
