Lion skate.

Yesterday, on the Wingra Lagoon, and you can hear lions roaring in the background. They're over at the Vilas Zoo, and I like to think they were happy that the weather has just warmed up about 30 degrees. We were happy to have the ice finally frozen and the air not too painfully cold to enjoy a morning skate.

If it's okay to venture off topic, some days ago you had a piece about a rape in Brooklyn of a particularly shocking nature (18 y.o. girl raped in front of her father as he was held at gunpoint), that actually led the mothers of two of the five alleged teen rapists to turn their sons into the police. If I recall there were a number of collapse-of-civilization type of comments.
It now seems as if the story is collapsing. One of the boys had a cellphone video showing the young woman sitting on the ground bottomless while laughing and inviting the boys to have her. Even worse, there's some reason to believe that she went to a park at night with her father, with whom she only recently became reunited after years in foster care, to get drunk together and REALLY get to know each other, if you catch my drift.

That's a contact call. They use it to regroup the pride and to warn those outside the pride of territorial encroachment.

Who the hell do they think's going to hear/answer them?

Where is everyone? Looks like Hillary and the secret service won't let anyone else skate

Looks like Trump fixed your Skating Rink too. Oh, it was the Canadian Air, you say. So all credit goes to Cruz.

Nice post. We southerners envy you Eskimos.

That looks great! The ice is so smooth and clear. Is it maintained that way?

We had a smooth flat freeze like that a couple of years ago, and a party skated five miles over to the village coffee shop to get some hot chocolate and cider donuts, then skated back.

Isn't it amazing all that open space? It was early and youg people are at school, and the rental booth wasn't open.

And if I ducked under that bridge you see in the background, there's an entire lake with just about no one on it.

I have a friend who lives in Madison right now, but is originally from down South. He posted yesterday on fb that 38 degrees never felt so good. Here in CO, most of our snow has finally melted. It's been here since Christmas (which is crazy for CO--usually it's melted after 3 days).
