Did you say Rad Paul?

Yes, a bit of salt and very tasty.

Legendary Steve Dahl on WLS-am Radio today live streaming from 2-6pm, to go with the salted radishes. You can serve 'em sliced for breakfast with lachs, peppers, tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, and an assortment of bakery breads and cheeses. Congrats on the Harvest.

Video of an actual slave market conducted by ISIS.

I wish there were a country called the United States of America and a President of the United States of America. This country and its leader, if it had one, would mercilessly annihilate monsters like those in this video.

Whither Crack?

1. He's traveling or incarcerated.

2. He's grown weary of trying to wake our cracka asses to our own perfidiousness and has decided to concentrate his energies elsewhere.

3. Althouse banned him for his knee-jerk off-topic racist rants.

4. Althouse banned him because his knee-jerk off-topic racist rants provoked a hail of off-topic responses that derailed the comment stream in any given post.

If 1,godspeed, you black emperor.
If 2,I hope he keeps up the ggod fight. Though he might want to reconsider which honky mofos he should be directing his ire at.
If 3, he's no worse than many and should not have been banned.
If 4, that's on the responders. Crack's incontinence is his own, but he shouldn't be held liable for the inability of others to restrain themselves.

How's Silvio. Can he make it another Wisconsin Winter ?

Thinking further about the ISIS slave market video...

And we do have a president who is African-American.

Talk about an opportunity for a 'terrible swift sword.'

Re Crack: I deleted a couple of his comments for trying to change the subject near the top of the thread. That seems to have prompted a decision of his to express his views on his blog instead. I didn't tell him to go away and not to come back, and he's welcome to participate here if he wants. If you miss him or wish he'd return, you can say that here and there is a good chance he'll see it. You can also find his blog and read it. It's full of hostility toward me and Meade.

Meade म्हणाले...

Radishes — crisp, cold, and crunchy — have been eaten. Salt, no bread.

The blog has no ban function. Anyone "banned" has self-banned.

Silvio was built for Wisconsin winters and is thriving. At 9 yrs-old, he's still only halfway to 120K.

Whither Crack?

Typically racist suppositions. The thought that Crack may have landed a lucrative gig or mundane job never entered your mind?
Crack never been incarcerated
Crack gets a little bit high with several friends, brings althouse up on the 50" LED. Saying "Watch this" he posts something provocative. As name calling and counter arguments begin to flow, each friend assumes the character of a particular Alhouse commenter.

They proceed to read the comments aloud in funny voices to the group while they maintain a nice buzz fed by beer, wine, evil weed, but mostly by laughter generated by worthless foam from the mouth.

I'm beginning to very much appreciate Amazon Prime.

Signed up a couple of yrs ago when Instapundit was flogging Amazon Prime. Expected we'd mostly use the selection of free streaming movies. Not so much that, as Netflix has much wider selection.

However we are more often looking for and finding things we need on Amazon.
..big time and fuel saving of comparison shopping at a computer vs. driving all over city;
..especially since the nearest city where some things (high quality cookware, special parts, etc.) is 150+ miles away;
..prices on Amazon Prime, while often a bit higher than the same item from non-Prime Amazon vendors, are often the best available price because of no-charge Amazon Prime shipping.

Yesterday, after some searching, found a $2.00 microswitch for pump shutoff on Amazon Prime. Would have taken all day driving around to find it locally, Found it several places on the internet, but with $8.00-$10.00 shipping charge.

There's a very illuminating transcript of a speech by the NYT's David Brooks at a recent "Gathering" conference.

I've not been much of a fan of Brooks, but his take on our culture is worth reading.

There is a faith angle, but the talk is not preachy and covers a variety of topical subjects.

Few of my thoughts Crack Emcee:

1) Macho Response was interesting when his focus was on New Age, Cults, etc. - he seemed to make a lot of sense. Guess he lost that battle and this is how he channels his anger.

2) I assume Shouting Thomas must be banned from this site or lost interest - he could really give it back to Crack - but lately he doesn't bother posting at Macho Response.

3) I kind of miss the old Macho Response - the one where he had that fetish for nude women bent over backwards with their vulva front and center to the camera. Never knew what was going to pop up on your screen first thing in the morning when you clicked on the site. Don't know where he got those pictures - maybe I haven't figured out the right words to Google.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

There are some commenters, and they know who they are, who are deleted all the time, whatever they say.

Crack isn't one of them, and in fact, Crack's retreat to his own blog distinguishes him from the commenters I am referring to but will not name. (In fact, I will delete your post if you name such a person, as in fact, I just did.)

Some people go where they are not wanted, others figure it out and don't go where they are not wanted. Some people are so sensitive to whether or not they are wanted — and I put myself in this group — that they will avoid places where they feel unwelcome or are in doubt about whether they are wanted.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Here is a tough one for an ardently pro life voter. One candidate has a mixed record on abortion but seems highly competent. The other is definitely pro life but seems grossly incompetent. The position is an important one.

How does the pro-lifer vote?

I'm thinking that you go with the competent guy as long as the abortion issue is trapped at the Supreme Court. But I could be wrong. What if this is a key stepping stone in competent guy's path to greater power later on where he might be a deciding factor in the determination of abortion rights? How is one to know?

Jaq म्हणाले...

That's easy. They are all incompetent. Some just project competence better than others.

Jaq म्हणाले...

Every once is a while you will get a glimpse of them and basically they are trying to bring down the blog as a place for discussion.

Go to Crack's blog, and see what he writes about Althouse, and she doesn't ban him.

I would comment on Crack's blog, but he doesn't really seek engagement, he seeks submission. Not really anyplace to go from there, which is how he likes it, I think.

Had a couple brief conversations with Crack a bit back; I wonder if he isn't processing stuff while in production on a new work. (He's actually a pretty talented musician.)

I'm very thankful that you folks allow me around, given my bent towards wigging out from time to time - especially after "falling back" for Winter.

Never really been a fan of the German Engineering BUT am so pleased to hear that Silvio's still kicking it in the snow. Love your pictures en route with the little silver sneaker. Kind of reminds me of happier times in my life (including Italian or French equivalents).

When did Mr. Meade plant those radishes? I've never had much luck with them; seems that they aren't much more than pink threads attached to roots after the harvest dates on the seed packets. I miss good, fresh radishes on buttered German black bread with a bit of salt. Oh, and a glass of beer. Lager's best.

Got through debating the ballot questions with the housemate last night.

http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/ele14/pip14idx.htm

I think that the ballot questions are more interesting than the elections for office. I guess I could ask about what other people have to vote on in terms of referenda, but could easily google, too.

Am now figuring out the Local candidates. I know who I'm voting Against for Governor, here in MA. The question is, what about for the other jobs? The US Congressman in my district's running unopposed. Usually I just vote for [blank]. Housemate's mentioning that I should write in the name of one of the neighbor (who ran for Alderman in my ward as a Libertarian) 's shih-tsus.

In grad school in Iowa I met another grad student who grew up in an upper middle class family in Kansas. At one point we took a car trip together to a conference. That meant we ate in restaurants together a few times. At a salad bar I put slices of radish on my plate. He asked what they were. I was surprised he did not already know. Maybe they are a regional food.

All radishes need is salt on your plate.

Ann and Meade,

Thanks for living your lives so publicly. I feel at home with many of the topics you discuss. My sister's birthday is within a couple of weeks of yours, Ann, and mine is within a couple of weeks of Meade's. Your marriage in 2009 was a bright spot in a year when sickness and death were present in my circle of friends and relatives.

I appreciate the work you go through so I can drop in, be entertained, and have a forum to express my thoughts from time to time. It looks like today may be more work than most.

I never could get excited by radishes. I guess I just don't like the hot stuff too much.

Crack Emcee:
I can't say I'm gonna miss him if he decides to leave. Not everything in life can be focused through the lens of things that happened in the past, or being aggrieved over wrongs real or perceived. "Life's not fair" as the philosopher SCAR said. I am far more interested in the future. The past is a lesson, if you care to learn it; the future an opportunity.
