The internet talks back.

KB Homes, among others, seems to get away with "no criticism" clauses in its new home sales contracts. Where's the Internet on this one?

I'm just surprised that anyone would think this wouldn't backfire.

Dog toys all over the floor is always a negative.

I liked the Yelp review by the person infected with Ebola who needed an isolated place to stay while in quarantine.

The remedy for bad fines is more fines.

See you in court, UNION STREET GUEST HOUSE. Got proof now. Proof of bedbugs.

I distrust many of the rating sites but that's just part of life in 2014. Figure it out.

I applaud businesses standing up against the tyranny of review sites. Insufferable assholes posting one-star reviews because their outrageous self-entitled behavior wasn't catered to can ruin a business owner. Especially when people who have positive experiences don't generally go out of their ay to post positive reviews.

Wouldn't it just be easier to provide a good product and good customer service? What are people thinking? And why do people with attitudes like this go into the hospitality industry in the first place?

How could a "fine" be collected by a private business?

I'll worry if Dear Leader issues an executive order to impose a fine on people who criticize him in their NSA bugged phone calls, his IRS agents will withhold the fines from their tax refunds, his Homeland Security SWAT teams will enforce payments from those who have no refunds.

A source at the Union Street Guest House insisted that the policy “was meant to be tongue-in-cheek,” but admitted that the attempt at humor had fallen flat.

Yah right...

Seriously? You are the internet. Stop letting them get away with it.

1. Don't turn an old building into a B&B when you have no experience in the hospitality industry.

2. Posting on Facebook trying to defend your dumbassery will only make things worse.

It's like Amy's Baking Company moved to New York and opened an Inn.

The owner is also a local politician. So not only did he torpedo his own business, the next time he runs for office people are going to think twice.

Being stupid should hurt. This time it did.

SeanF বলেছেন...

Richard, when you say they "get away with" the clauses, do you mean to say they've successfully enforced them?

A Google search for "KB Homes criticism" would seem to suggest they have not.

I have seen gaming apps offer some benefit (eg., extra points) for a five star rating. Trust no one.

sakredkow বলেছেন...

It's a joke. It's humor. They didn't reckon on people not getting it and feeling all righteous and offended and angry. These are the times we live in.

The review from Adolf H. was very flattering.

"This is what happens when you go up against the stupid peoples"

On one side, yes, who takes 1 star reviews seriously, on the other side, how many offering critique of the situation have received a 1 star review?

I can't defend their position - fighting stupid with stupid just doesn't work - but there's a lot of frustration when you create something of value and an anonymous shyster comes and pisses all over it.

Stupidity should be painful.

Socialism makes your stupidity painful to me.

I read the 5-star and 1-star reviews. If the 5-star review is vague and doesn't say anything about why I should use that product/service/hotel room, I don't.

If the 1-star review is vituperative and based on minor nitpicky things, I ignore it.
