Mountain biking as a school sport.

"It's unbelievable to watch these kids.... We take them to a green space, teach them how to get their weight back. Light hands, heavy feet. "

I've read before that there are more head injuries from bike accidents than football (http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/06/03/really-the-claim-cycling-is-the-top-sport-for-head-injuries/) ...

Assuming that's true, I bet the "let's ban youth football" crowd will NOT show up to complain about kids participating in mountain biking. But that's because the anti-football folks couldn't care less about the health of football players; they are about nothing more than banning testosterone.

Wait... wut? We're going from "Dodgeball is too ego-destroying, football too inherently dangerous", not to mention the evergreenly pious "Leave no trace behind" credos to -- MOUNTAINBIKING? One of THE most dangerous youth activities, not to mention the environmental havoc it wreaks...wow. Just, wow. The captain of my old rescue crew was also on call for one of the local wilderness rescue teams on the AT and he had some amazing diatribes about dragging out mountainbikers who had massively screwed up in some inaccessible area or other. They were epic.

It's all fun and games until someone breaks their neck.

That's a winner. Wisconsin is glaciated enough to make for great rides.

Fort Lewis College will own you.

When properly done (on an actual mountain) mountain biking is a near-death experience. That's what makes it fun, so I hope that's how it's going to be taught in the schools. As for the environmental damage, that should be mitigated by the number of kids whose potential lifetime carbon footprint will be reduced to zero. Also, they won't be on my lawn. This is a great program with something for everyone.

Get rid of all school sports.
