Samantha Power Resigns Over Hillary "Monster" Remark

Of course I regret them, I can't even believe they came out of my mouth. The campaign was getting very tense, and I -- in every public appearance I've ever made talking about Senator Clinton, I have sung her praises as the leader she's been, the intellect. She's also incredibly warm, funny. I've spent time with her. I think that I just had a very weak moment in seeing some of the tactics, it seems, that were getting employed. I was just afraid really that the campaign would not stay at the level it had been on and I let out in a wave of frustration.
Hash tags show that we're getting #VerySerious

Boy, these guys sure have nice uniforms. Makes one wonder where they came from.
It might have been a mistake to indulge in mass executions before reaching Baghdad.
Ha, ha. G*d, these people are stupid. What did Powers ever do to deserve a job representing the US? She was a journalist and and headed up Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard. That's not any sort of preparation for a job that could use competence and brains.
Number of times Samantha Power is mentioned in Hillary Clinton's "Hard Choices": 1
This will show them!
Ann: I've got comprehensive coverage, with updates coming throughout the day: 'Iraq Update: Widespread Executions as ISIS Pushes on Baghdad; Retreat in Mosul After Iraqi Air Force Assault; Kurds Retake Kirkuk'.
"Strongly condemn attacks in Mosul by the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (#ISIL), and its efforts to turn back clock on #Iraq's progress.""
Samantha Power! Oh NO!
They're pissing their dishdashas and quaking in their sandals.
These are the same Islamist Caliphate guys that Hillary and Barack and Power were secretly arming with Libyan missiles in Benghazi to help them overthrow Assad in Syria to shake up their actual enemy Israel. They laughed at Hillary and killed our Ambassador.
The chances Obama fights his friends now is zero. So Iraq is lost, and we will get to hear 24/7 media narratives that it is Bush's fault.
That #Hashtag power worked so well to save the Nigerian Girls, they brought to bear rapidly this time.
oh? It didn't work, because Islamists don't give a flying F'?
Who'd have thunk that? Trot out Mochelle with a sign then...
Remember, she's U.S. ambassador to the U.N.
Apparently, ISIS and various other Islamic militants haven't gotten the memo about that whole progress in the modern world, thing.
Oh a tweet. That'll show Al Quaeda!
These people are an embarrassment. None of them are any sort of adult.
What does "turn back the clock" reference? Western thought? Islamic thought? Personal thought? My political masters thought?
Iowahawk recommends #stronglywordedhashtag
Boehner threw out a clever line at the press conference on Majority leader. Knowing Obama always ducks out of sight when his carefully crafted disasters explode, and lets his Media trained seals do his fighting for him, Boehner said, " And where's the President...he's asleep."
Wow, that's gonna leave a mark. #BanBeheadings
Didn't someone on another thread predict this mockingly? At this rate, "The Onion" will soon be out of business. There's no place left for satire, once reality crowds it out.
Obama is the first president in my lifetime who is younger than me. By that, I only expected him and his people to be younger. I didn't expect them to actually be children acting childishly.
The state department is being run by the Oberlin student council, Iowahawk speculated.
Oberlin used to be a good school but women took over quite a while back.
They're batshit lefty now, worthy of the standard of leftist stupidity that they've been appointed to.

Meanwhile the Kurds have seize the large Oil production city of Kirkuk.
Tim,
I think it's important that we read Brit papers. They actually, you know, cover the news. I think you'd agree that the Peshmerga look like seasoned and organized fellows. The rest, well they're Arabs.

You don't want to be downrange of a strongly worded tweet.
Democratic #WarOnCompetence
In re "waronwomen" and etc.
Notice that 800 fanatical misogynists (est of bad guys at Mosul) are more powerful than 500,000 ordinary people (est of refugees from Mosul). It reveals the underlying realities of power, when social convention and false consciousness are stripped off.
This is no great surprise to students of history.
Democracy is a weak thing. Womens political power especially only exists very conditionally and can disappear in an instant, revealing the real, natural state of affairs.
"That oughta do it. Thanks, Ray."
Hey guys, you're being unfair. She's now "appalled" at what's happened. This time, her tweet contained no hashtag.

Done! I've just downgraded Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to "Acquaintance"-- standing by to like totally all the way unfriend him the moment Samantha gives the word!
Interesting how mere words, in one context, can wreak so much havoc and be so totally devastating to the psyche, while in another, they're so... ineffectual.

Al-Qaeda can be shamed with #hashtags?

If that doesn't work, we will even more strongly and stridently condemn the attacks in Mosul.
What's next, I'm rubber, you're glue?
I know you are but what am I?
This is the extent of Obama's foreign policy.

-Do these tyros even know that they've been entrusted with running a superpower, not just the student council.
-I was never a huge Mitt guy - too much of a squish for me - but so much of what he's predicted has come to pass since the election. And they weren't even hard predictions - but all the fashionable people thought that Mitt was a Square and Obama is fab-u-lous!
The tweet is not mightier than the sword
I think those "militants" may be facing an IRS audit if they don't watch out. That's the only force this outfit knows about.
In the meantime disaster is happening and soon to be seen near you .
"Iraq's Kurds have done well since 2003, running their own affairs while being given a fixed percentage of the country's overall oil revenue. But with full control of Kirkuk - and the vast oil deposits beneath it - they could earn more on their own, eliminating the incentive to remain part of a failing Iraq."
Turkey will be next.
Biden made this prediction a few years ago:

Only if you preserve the peace Joe. Which is why Mitt said it was a mistake to not keep 10,000 troops there.
The dems wanted out without preconditions. And this is what happens when you remove troops not based on the situation on the ground but becuase you want to follow a political time table.
Your dems shit all over the action said the surge was doomed to fail, called the general general Betrayus, even though Iraq WAS the same Iraq that Bill Clinton' and congress passed the Iraq Liberation Act (which called for regime change).
And who suffers? the Iraqis getting their heads cut off.
oh? It didn't work, because Islamists don't give a flying F'?

Will this even rise to Obama putting down a red line that he will not enforce with action?
maybe we can get Russia to broker some kind of peace.

It's going to be a long 952 days until Obama leaves office. Lord, I long for the day when adults are back in charge instead of community organizers and academics whose grasp of the real world is weak at best.
Is she telling me to strongly condemn the attacks?
Or instructing twitter followers like Michelle Obama to hold up a sign and put on a sad face?
She can't be bothered to say "The US" or "Obama" or even "We". Just, [implied you] strongly condemn..."
Symbolic actions from a symbolic administration.
Dems must be careful blaming Bush now because Hillary! voted for the invasion.
So Samantha Powers is gonna hash tag 'em to death right?
Yea that will scare those Islamics!
Remember it was Samantha Power, along with Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton, that convinced Pres. Obama to intervene in Libya.
Is she arguing right now for intervention in Iraq and Syria? #IfNotWhyNot
"I love the smell of hashtags in the morning. It smells like. . . .#Victory."
Please refresh my memory....was she one of the...
#Brilliant Team of Rivals
... assembled by Obama and raved about by Doris Kearns Goodwin?
The lameness tag is perfect. It describes the entire administration's approach to the world.
So how will Putin take advantage of this?
Well, that ought to do it. Standby for Powers' next tweet - blaming Israel for the whole situation.
"Strongly condemns" -- that'll make them tremble.
Does a hashtag come in a 50 caliber model?
What's sad is all of the low information voters that either don't have a clue what is going on in the world around, or the ones that do, but think the Obama admin and Hillary are just brilliant and the world is a much safer place.
Last night on Bill O. they showed some interviews with people in NYC lined up to get their book signed by Hillary. Each was asked to name one or two major accomplishments by Hillary when she was secretary of state. It was the usual, "um, um" or the general platitude "she flew around and met with lots of leaders" and the lovely "where ever she traveled, she would meet with woman leaders and promote women's issues."
Yeah, right, I wonder if Hillary will travel to the new ISIS state and meet with the women that now have to be covered up and can no longer go outside, unless necessary. I'm sure she'll get right on that after she deals with the more pressing issue of the rape culture on campus. You know, the poor female college student that is somehow sexually assaulted because the next morning she regretted sleeping with the guy she met at a party and then claims she might have said no somewhere on the way to jumping in the sack.
And who suffers? the Iraqis getting their heads cut off.
Yes. And others -- from a Dominican priest in the U.S. an hour ago: "Our Dominican brothers in Mosul have been surrounded in their Priory. They are being threatened by death."
This administration really does bring Monty Python to mind - as many have noted. I also am reminded of "Blazing Saddles" with the chorus boy beating on the chest of the cowboy then breaking down in tears.
These Leftist Policy Wonks are all about #SoftPower. Don't they ever read Mao?
Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun
The only thing that keeps the world from being a hell on earth for Women (e.g. 500,000 refugees from Mosul) is a few rough men prepared to provide the veil of civilization...
A tweet?
That was a joke, right?
What are the odds that Iran will invade southern Iraq, seizing most of that nation's oil fields?
Who would stop Iran?
And/or Iraq is said to be the world's fifth largest oil producer, what happens if fighting around the oil fields and refineries shuts them down? What happens to the price of oil?
Just for argument's sake, how is a "tweet" any better or worse than some State Department spokesperson of any administration standing at the podium, staring at a piece of paper and droning aloud, "The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms...," blah blah blah.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7I5dVBezF9k#t=106
If it doesn't start in the right spot, jump ahead to the 1:45 mark.
" but so much of what he's [Romney] predicted has come to pass since the election."
Actually saw a guest make this point, much to Mika's discomfort, on Morning Joe. (Yes, I am the one that watches it) They also made the point that Obama chided him for making these predictions we now know to have been prescient and claimed a state of affairs that only existed in Obama's talking points.
I wonder if this was the debate he was preparing for when Benghazi was attacked and so he couldn't be bothered?
But in her defense it is complicated. Who knows what to deplore now that the Iranians are trying to come to the rescue of the Iraqi government?
I think Kurt Vonnegut wrote a short story about some guy who had hashtags during WWII, but they just weren't powerful enough then to turn the tide of war. The pathos was overwhelming, to think what might have been, the lives that might have been saved, if he had mastered them in time.
Armies don't fight wars, even limited ones; nations fight wars.
And this president is more interested in going along with the public's fatigue over this matter than he is interested in explaining the harm that will result due to that fatigue.
Anti-US elements around the world think we're tired and unwilling to stand up to them.
Obama's policies are reinforcing that thinking.
We're entering a truly dangerous period. The most dangerous of the post-Cold War era.
It would be funny. If it wasn't for all the dead people.
#deadpeople #funnysadnotfunnyhaha
Let us all remember the crap the leftists spewed about Bush sitting there in a classroom as he was notified that we were CURRENTLY under attack.
As if he was supposed to leap up, don a cape, jump into the air, and fly to intercept the airplanes still en route.
And what great solutions leftists can come up with after two full days? A #limp-dicked #hashtag.
Here is Dana Milbank defending Power last year:

Milbank mentions that he attended college with Ms. Power. This dovetails neatly with Milbank's latest column, http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/dana-milbank-this-is-no-way-to-fix-the-problem-of-billionaires-buying-elections/2014/06/03/f6e8228e-eb62-11e3-93d2-edd4be1f5d9e_story.html,
in which he expresses the belief that it is necessary to elect Hillary Clinton to break the power of the DC oligarchy.
This is a thread of toughs, right here. Bad to the bone.

A considerable possibility now in Iraq is a military coup. However, it's not like Egypt where the military is a cohesive and disciplined force. The Iraq government is just a little way from loss of all credibility and authority.
This also has the potential to strengthen or weaken Iran's position.
The clearest result is that it weakens an already compromised United States. It is difficult to believe that any faction in any of the nations in the region will take us at all seriously.
Thus we have come, by both design and circumstance, to a point of American non intervention in the Middle East. Those who have said we should not be policing other parts of the world will get their wish. American politics will devolve into a season of intense blaming, while the world waits to see what the chaos brings.
This may well all be above the pay grade of any American administration. It certainly seems to be beyond that of the current one. It is no wonder that Obama is becoming so disengaged. He is not used to failure that he can not explain or deny.
He is not failing everywhere though. The economy may be lucking through all the government imposed problems, and he is still doing a brilliant job of solidifying the political future of the Democratic party, largely through the immigration issue and the dishonest but successful war on women theme.
He's not losing everywhere, folks. In fact in some areas he is remarkably successful.
Actually, this is just the war up act. The nice fellows in ISIS have declared their intention to reach Karbala- the Shiite holy city. If they even get close, you are going to see the whole arab world explode - because these nice fellows will attempt to raze the place. That is how Saddam's ex soldiers managed to kick off the Iraqi civil war after the US invasion - kill Shiite leaders in Karbala and explode bombs there. Instant sectarian war.
I am certain that Obama has top men on this - top men! I mean after wrecking Libya, undermining Egypt, this is the grand opportunity to set the whole arab world on fire for decades.
Funny - GWB tried to set up a democracy and build a nation - President "Im-Not-There" seems hell bent on leaving a smoking wreck.
Good for the Kurds - if they can hold Kirkuk, maybe they can finance a real Kurdish state from parts of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran.
Hillary, Ms Power, BHO, and the dems in general have no (effective) answer for rampaging, serial beheading Jihad. They can't even correctly identify it when it stares them in the face.
"Democracy is a weak thing. Womens political power especially only exists very conditionally and can disappear in an instant, revealing the real, natural state of affairs."
And yet the feminazis love islam, and certainly wouldn't never wanted to be know as "Islamopobic".
Well, she's an ambassador. That's what they do - use "strong condemnation" as if it matters.
It's the President whose job it is to promise flaming death from the skies.

Remember when Senator Obama used to say he wanted to leave Iraq (before the surge) and said, when questioned about the consequences, he would not discuss the possibility of the "parade of horribles"?
Well, now he's president, and the parade is passing by.
Leadership by hashtag. It's finally come to this.
Well, our country had a good run. Maybe we can hide behind Brazil when all the other countries are busy hanging out.
The question is, if the Administration has gotten this cynical only six years in, what do we have in store for the next two years? How much more checked out can they get?
Now would be a good time to go into a coma.

In the late 1980's-1990's, I did not have a TV and thus did not partake of much media at all. The Berlin Wall fell and it was a week before I knew about it! That's how out of it I was at the time.
When I came out of that phase, which lasted 6 years or so, and started watching TV again, I was truly and honestly confused by any political stuff I saw for a week or so. You see, after all that time, I had a hard time distinguishing what was a "Saturday Night Live" clip satirizing a politician, or a REAL politician or talking head.
I will never forget the chill that ran down my spine those few times it dawned on me that...holy SHIT...this is REAL!!!
Kinda like that scene in "Rosemary's Baby"! The Mia Farrow original.
AFAIAK - its already happened. "The Onion" can close up shop.
Lance: "Remember it was Samantha Power, along with Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton, that convinced Pres. Obama to intervene in Libya."
Well, in the case of Libya, there were alot of French oil contracts on the line.
So li'l obama jumped at the chance to ensure the flow of oil and payoffs to the French.
A real "war for oil".
Which the left never cared about.
Because..Fen's Law.
St George: "And/or Iraq is said to be the world's fifth largest oil producer, what happens if fighting around the oil fields and refineries shuts them down? What happens to the price of oil?"
Going up but heavily dependent on what happens with Natural Gas in Europe.
Where obama has "helpfully" refused to allow any increase in our export capacity to Europe.
You know, 'cuz that would make his boyfriend Putin very upset.

Entirely predictable.
harrogate, you can now return to the left-wings broad defense of "islam" and all it has to teach the west.
"This is a thread of toughs, right here. Bad to the bone."
I wish I was as tough as you. Able to ignore the mass executions, refugee crises, prospect of regional war with nary a qualm, on account of my moral purity.
I am just not as morally pure as you are. I feel remorse that we sold out our allies in Iraq, and now leave them to pay the price for trusting us.
Maybe they can fight their way out of this. That would be the best possible outcome. I am hoping for it because that is all the leverage we have left in the ME, we can "hope."
Harrogate@2:36
I expect that sort of comment from machine.
I've come to expect better from you.
She does correctly label them ISIL: Islamic State of Iraq and Levant.
Obama voters are not interested in this power stuff. They are interested in "soft power" like hashtags and condemnation on Facebook.
Feminists are going to be against "islamophobia" until the Islamists get too close.
Gay activists are going to be against "Islamophobia" until the first rock is thrown or the first head is cut off.
The left is against war until the mass rapes (the real ones) begin in the next village or town.

Fair enough. First, Blah blah blah or no, what serious diplomat would limit communication to 128 characters regardless of the situation. Second, a diplomatic communication is directed to one's opposite number. A tweet is simply thrown out into the void. It is playing to the gallery. The ostensible recipient has no reason to treat it seriously, if not in fact be insulted. Third, ISIS is not a recognized constututed government with which we can deal diplomatically in any formal way. Back channel yes, but foreground? Not likely. Powers is ambassador to the UN. A tweet is not a request or demand for UN sanction which effective or not is what her actual job requires.
No, a tweet serves no practical purpose and is personal moral preening at best.
To Ironclad's reference to Karbala (above), that city is about 65 miles south of Baghdad.
Further south is the port Basra, also a heavily Shia city.
AMERICANS ARE BEING EVACUATED from a major Iraqi air base as Al Qaeda-aligned militants toppled cities in the country's north and threatened to advance toward Baghdad.
Who knew we were electing Brave Sir Robert?
Compare this with Michael Totten's Dispatch of June 12, 2014:
But we are not going to save Iraq and we are not going to save Syria. It’s over. That’s what the Middle East wanted, and it’s what the Middle East is going to get.
Arab governments complain when we intervene and they complain when we don't intervene. Basically, they complain no matter what. So asking what they want is pointless. It takes a while to notice this trend over time, but there it is. They have not stopped to consider the consequences of this behavior, but those consequences are about to become apocalyptic for Nouri al-Maliki.
“We’ll kill you if you mess with us, but otherwise go die” is not even close to my preferred foreign policy, but it’s what President Barack Obama prefers (phrased much more nicely, of course) and it’s what the overwhelming majority of Americans prefer, including most liberals as well as conservatives.
Still, it’s only a matter of time before we get sucked in kicking and screaming one way or another. Because the Middle East isn’t Las Vegas. What happens there doesn’t stay there.
We're out for now, though. This is the time of festering.
That clever girl! How did she know the ISIL's secret weakness?
The Iranians are stuck on stupid Shiites, as are the Maliki government's guys we left ruling Irag.
These new "worse than them all" Sunnis are the same ones we have armed to fight in Syria. Putin helped Assaad stop them in Syria , so they are attacking in both directions at once by expanding into northern Iraq where they are being again armed with our weapons left there for the Iraqi Army.
They seem to be an offshoot of AlQaeda that was an offshoot of the Saudi Arabian tribes that want to take Saudi Arabia ( the homebase is there, called Mecca) into a true Jihadist Islamic World War. They are the deadly enemies all living Shites, Christians and Jews. But they are Obama's friends.
Meanwhile the chess playing Russians want clients to buy their armaments, including nuclear weapons. And the strategic Russians then plan the bonus of becoming Europe's protector from those very same weapons.
The USA under Obama's rule has frankly become a non player, having willed its own disappearance under Obama Doctrines.
As a result the world's other militaries are starting to dance on the graves of a suddenly defunct 70 year Pax Americana restraint system.
The question for us is for how long a US Dollar retains value? That devaluation denouement has always been Obama's end game. That day the dollar dies is the day the many suddenly militarized Federal Agencies are being armed and trained against. It's not a few loonies. It's all of us.
Germany and Japan may once have dreamed of taking over North American lands for themselves, but such a take over was impossible until a Fifth Columnist President came along who craftily sought to destroy our carbon based energy supplies and with that our economy and with that our military defense.
We've two more years of this asshole, Obama. Do not underestimate his ability to reek more havoc. These tweets are designed to make the USA a laughing stock throughout the world.
My bet is that Obama will learn about the ISIL in tomorrow's paper at which time he will become VERY CONCERNED!
I saw a post elsewhere that ISIL is now advertising on line for experienced helicopter pilots to fly the Apache attack helicopters they captured in Mosul.
she's hot. always see her around cambridge. she's a total bitch, love that.
Is this the same administration willing to ruin the world economy to get CO2 reductions that won't halt climate change for a second? Thank God they're as feckless at that as they are at crushing the Islamist hordes in Mesopotamia or rooting out corruption in the IRS.
Well, in the case of Libya, there were alot of French oil contracts on the line.
So li'l obama jumped at the chance to ensure the flow of oil and payoffs to the French.
Didja know TotalFinaElf has interests in Iraq and Iran as well?
Obama is purposely allowing Iraq to fall to Al Qaeda. Obama wants to teach us, the citizens of the USA, a lesson.
I'll bet Michelle is bursting-at-the-seams proud of us right now!!
Not a lot of libs commenting. Which is understandable.
Although he had never heard of ISIS until he read about them in the paper yesterday, aides report that they have never seem Obama so angry.
The fact that ISIS would actually have formed a full-fledged army right under his nose and behind his back in the new Age of Obama particularly rankles him.
Arabs can be doughty fighters, but the modern Arab societies, such as they are, do not or cannot (by design or happenstance) produce the sort of officers that the Arab troops will follow into real danger. They'd be more likely to follow westerners, who may be infidels but at least aren't out to personally screw over their troopies and steal their stuff.
Recall the Arab legion under Glubb Pasha? The most feared fighting force in the Arab world, yet take away the Brit officers and all you have is the Jordanian Army.
Anti-US elements around the world think we're tired and unwilling to stand up to them. Obama's policies are reinforcing that thinking. We're entering a truly dangerous period. The most dangerous of the post-Cold War era.
All the blood and treasure expended during the deposing of Saddam. Wasted. Thrown away like spoilt arugula by Obama. There's always a price to be paid for a naive foreign policy. Carter gave the world a terror-sponsoring Iran. It looks like Obama is going to do Carter one better.
You may not like war but war likes you. If Iraq becomes a terrorist-sponsoring state, which it looks to be in the process of becoming, we will have to go there again. Ditto Afghanistan.

As for the American population, both liberal and traditional conservative alike - are fed up with endless wars not fought in America's vital interests or even to gain booty from conquest..
Time to bring back the first team.Replace Samantha Power with Ronan Farrow.
"As for the American population, both liberal and traditional conservative alike - are fed up with endless wars not fought in America's vital interests"
Yours is the path the country has chosen and hopefully this does not end up right back in our yard again.
Just don't pretend that this is not a consequence of Obama's choices given that it was not in his power to re-live the events from 9-11 on.
grackle: "You may not like war but war likes you. If Iraq becomes a terrorist-sponsoring state, which it looks to be in the process of becoming, we will have to go there again. Ditto Afghanistan."
The first time that we had to "pay a visit" to muslim world was in 1801 to help "convince" them that the muslim 1000 year barbary tradition of raiding US shipping (along with European cities for slaves and booty) needed to abate a bit was in 1801.
Naturally, as machine and ARM and Cookie will explain, it was because of Bush policies.
This battle has been going on since the 700'sAD, and it's not about to stop anytime soon.
Especially now when the islamists know what they have in the White House.
I agree with several other commenters here: this is a feature, not a bug, of obama/leftist policy.
