On theme today — the theme is self-refutation — the name of Obama's new press secretary: Josh Earnest.

So Jay Carney is out, and the new Obama mouthpiece is Josh Earnest. Great name! And that name is on theme today. We were just talking about self-refuting statements... on the occasion of Hillary's "I will not be a part of a political slugfest on the backs of dead Americans... Those who insist on politicizing the tragedy will have to do so without me."

He's not just a moron, he's an OXYmoron.

This is a joke from the Onion again, right?

Joshing means to make fun of easily fooled people. Being earnest means a child's act to fool weak minded grown ups.

I think we should ask Mr. Earnest to read portions of the play The Importance of Being Earnest at his first appearance as Press Secretary.

Which might not involve self-refutation.

But would be funny, for those who recognize Oscar Wilde's work, and the pun involved.

We'd like to do a lot more without her than just politicizing the tragedy.

Sounds like an oxymoron to me.

Is he joshing or is he earnest in what crap he is spewing for Obie?

Is he another one of these guys like Carney or Viettor that look like they are about 17?

Jay Carney was never cut out for that job.

Back in the Nixon day, his Press Secretary, Ron Ziegler, was so adept at obfuscating, spinning, and misdirecting that his name for a time became a verb: to ziegle. Carny never achieve the same level of polish, but he far exceeded the master's ability to keep a straight face.

Mr Secretary, quit joshing the Press Corps and give us your earnest answer one time.

One of the great tricks I learned playing HALO was how to accumulate weapons. It's done by repeatedly throwing one's current weapon to the ground while shuffling to the next scene. After a while I have a nice little arsenal and can move into battle well armed.

Although it may look like I am just replacing my weapon by kicking the older one to the curb, it's really not like that at all.

But one wonders what straw broke the camel's back at this particular time.

At least "Carney" implied some kind of barker, which has a degree of truth....Earnest? Oy! You're joshin' me!

It sounds like Hillary is trying to hide behind some dead Americans to avoid questions about her leadership which may or may not contributed to said dead Americans murder. I'm not saying... I'm just saying.

Is that a joke name?

Now perhaps he can get some pants that aren't fire-retardant.

Do you suppose they recognized the humor in the name? You would think so but don't be too sure.

Obama announced that communications deputy Josh Earnest will take over the job as the president's press secretary.

"Today the flak jacket is officially passed to a new generation," he said of Earnest.

Yes indeed, I don't think a President has ever had a press secretary treated as savagely and mercilessly as this one has been.

After Jon Karl asked Carney a simple yes or no question about Shinseki yesterday and Carney could not even weasel his way out of answering that question it looked like he gave up.

He can now go home and sign his contract with CNN or MSNBC.

When asked why he missed this opportunity to address the pay equality gap at the White House, the President joshed that were no women earnest enough for the job. #YesAllWomen

I don't see the self-refutation. You can't lie convincingly if you don't do it in earnest.

Lies told in Earnest by Earnest are still lies.

Danno म्हणाले...

I don't envy anyone that has to lie or rationalize about what the administration is currently doing. The upside is that the lapdog press never lobs anything but softballs, since they spin everything to make Obama appear competent, so the press secretary doesn't even need to sound credible.

Sorry I missed this thread. I can't think of the press core now as anything but the giggling Centurions in the Monty Python sketch where Caesar speaks of his friend in Rome, "Biggus Dikkus"
