"Obama reveals Final Four bracket picks."
"I know these are not imaginative picks, but I think they’re the right ones," said Obama, assuring us of his stability and wisdom as we move forward into what some say is if not a resurgence of the Cold War then something chilly that reminds them of the Cold War.
They say Putin laughed at Obama, but it is Obama who laughs at Putin, now, with this masterful show of attending to the frippery of a college sports tournament.

Perhaps he is better at guessing the outcome of sporting events versus the moves of Putin.
Then again, one may be better served by picking four other teams.
I assume you're posting this knowing it will climb to over 300 comments while you enjoy the day sightseeing...
And yes there was a time where it would have seemed ironic that a president who doesn't find the need to attend a National security counsel meeting, Certainly wouldn't delegate the picking of his final 4 to subordinates. And make the picking a media event...
But nowadays its just so commonplace that it's just a yawn from me....
I would like to thank the hostess of this blog for working while on vacation.
I suspect it is more "stupid is as stupid does" than mocking of Putin.
I clicked on the link, but it was behind a pay-wall. I have a subscription to the NYTimes, but it didn't seem worth it to link this particular computer to that subscription.
Putin's Final Four.
If Bush had done this, the MSM would be screaming about restoring dignity to the presidents office.
Can't you hear the music?
Banjo Obama being played and played by Putin....
As Rome burns Banjo fiddles.
The Chilly Rivalry. A Pewter Curtain has descended across Europe.
Legend has it that Timothy Treadwell laughed at the grizzly too. It was just being playful and maybe didn't know its own strength...
At this time, America is not only a rudderless ship adrift but the captain is actively leading a mutiny.
Sleep tight tonight, your Commander-in-Chief is working on the really important stuff.
Laughing from a position of strength conveys confidence.
Laughing from a position of weakness conveys foolishness.
Nearly as "masterful" as Nero's fiddle playing.
Why? Why participate in something so banal, in which you run the risk of painting a huge target on yourself if you're completely wrong? Especially when there are very real problems and your credibility for dealing with those is a very real issue?
Having been a law prof at an esteemed institution, I have to believe he knows this is a bad idea. Is he delusional or gangsta? You know, Chris Rock predicted gangsta in the second term, so?
I think he started this silly shit when he could do no wrong and now he thinks he's gotta stick with it!
He can just push the reset button when one of his picks loses.
I have to admit that his 74%ile for the NCAA picks is much higher than his Foreign Policy picks. So he's probably playing to his strengths.
Putin's bracket has "F$%K YOU PAY ME" written on every line.
It must be intermission. He will return to watching the video after the break.
That said, Obama hasn't been the same since the assassination and regime change in Libya.
Time to press that reset button. HAHAHAHA!
When the news of the Armada hoving into sight reached Francis Drake, it is said he calmly acknowledged the message and continued to his game of boules... historians so dearly love to deflate this tale.
It seems that the real reason Drake was unhurried at the news was the time of day -- no need to rush since it would be useless to try a sortie from Portsmouth while the tide was high -- and not some cocksure bravdo. Spain was a threat to England. Everybody knew it. To treat the Duke of Medina-Sedonia's fleet with nonchalant confidence would not have inspired Drake's men; quite the reverse, it would have made them think their leader wasn't playing with a full deck.
The same is true here. Obama may think he's playing his mind game in major league style, but if that's true he's even more of a failure than I took him for yesterday. He's not fooling me, nor is he fooling the American public, nor our allies (what remains of them), nor our enemies. And he's certainly not got the best of Putin with this pathetic display, especially since Obama will soon have to crawl like a supplicant to prevent Russia from sinking his Iranian "disarmament" initiative with all hands. Unless there's plenty of sarcasm dripping from her comment that I haven't detected, it appears the only person Obama has fooled is Althouse.
have to admit that his 74%ile for the NCAA picks is much higher than his Foreign Policy picks. So he's probably playing to his strengths.
Yeah, I can't get too worked up about this. He's done it every year. And he actually seems to know what he's talking about. Of course, his Final Four matches mine, though I have Florida and Louisville in the National Title game with Florida being victorious this time around...so maybe I'm being generous.
Obambi's final four has NCAA B'ball teams, Putin's final four lists four countries.
Hey, remember when President Bush went all "bracketology" on America?
Yeah, America didn't elect basketball jones or anything...
Hey don't worry guys & gals, not only did Obama release his March Madness bracket, he screened the new Cesar Chavez movie at the White House last night.
What a barrel of laughs, huh?
This Crimea thing is totally under control!
Obama will be known for Facepalm Syndrome. Millions of Americans suffering TBI from constant facepalming and head-desking during his presidency.
The phoning it in presidency.
When the entire basis of your elevation to the office of the Presidency is based on a cult of personality (typical of left-wing leaders) then it is important to always keep Dear Leaders face in front of the masses.
Hence the all too predictable omnipresence of Barack and michelle's visage wherever you look.
ABC/ESPN is certainly doing their part.
garage: "HAHAHAHA!"
No one in Europe is laughing.
But then again, they are staring directly at Putin.
You can go back to sleep now garage.
Uncle sugar is promising more free stuff for you.
I don't really care if Obama makes final four picks or not. I am annoyed that the sports media thinks this is front page news.
Uncle sugar is promising more free stuff for you.
Sweet! I love free stuff.
Interesting to see that Russian Orthodox soul beats Kenyan witchcraft every time.
Al Qaeda's Syrian slaughter was set to exterminate the oldest Christian group on earth, and Obama's Gang was arming Al Qaeda from Libyan weapons stocks run out of Benghazi. But Russian Orthodox soul stopped it.
Obama's Gang also worked hard to assist Morsi's Brotherhood come into power to kill Christians in Egypt. But Egypt's civilized Military came back into power, and from now on will look for help from Russian Orthodox soul.
Israel has long ago given up on the Obama Gang's charades.
Come now, Ann, you miss the point! Obama has his eyes on the post-presidency, and he wants to be more than just the first black ex-president. The NCAA is HUGE money, and Obama wants nothing more than to be liked by the sports industry big money types; that’s where his post-presidency remonstrance will come from, plus all the great parties hosted by those NCAA players-cum-NBA players he’ll get invited to. Ukraine, Crimea, Putin, that’s all just annoying background noise. The Goths and Vandals approached menacingly; Rome burned, and Nero played…
I hope his brackets are drawn with red lines.

God's truth
Could their training being more diametrically opposed?
Obama, community organizer v. Putin, KGB agent.
It's playing out on the world stage as one would expect.
I wouldn't trust Obozo to make the right pick on the question of whether the sun will come up in the morning. His track record in decision making, forecasting future moves etc is bad in that regard.
The way Obama's year has been going so far, he may have jinxed all four of the teams.
And Louisville has to get past the Shockers, who remember that last year they were up double digits before eventually losing to the Cardinals, plus a very good Michigan team, so there's that.
Meanwhile Scott Walker has predicted a final four berth for the Badgers. If that happens then the guy has to be a serious contender for 2016.
It's good to know that in a time of "phony scandals" and "phony world crisis" our President is focusing on what truly matters to the average American - March Madness.
"They say Putin laughed at Obama, but it is Obama who laughs at Putin, now, with this masterful show of attending to the frippery of a college sports tournament."
So nice of you to explain it like that. Now I feel so much better, assured that the country is in the Best Of Hands. If Obama were really as masterful as Althouse suggests, he would double down on laughing at Putin -- showing all the world that he who laughs last laughs best, and that O is always the guy who laughs last -- by running off next to divide his time between Dem fundraisers, TV comedy shows and golf tournies.
Oh, wait.
Apparently it did not occur to him that the nation might not need another presidential (with a small P) bracket prognostication.
"We have a choice as a society to either scale back those programs relative to what is promised under current law; or to raise tax revenue above its historical average to pay for the expansion of those programs; or to cut back on all other spending even more sharply than we already are."
Head of the CBO....
Mr. Obama, you are going to hike taxes, right?
when you start from the viewpoint of "The US is an imperial power and responsible for all the bad things that happen in the world," it's easy to figure out this administration's foreign policy.
By the way, I have Iowa State in the Final Four. Whooped up on Michigan earlier this year. Went 8-2 against top 25 teams (at the time of the game) and 3-1 vs. teams in the top 10. came back against a hot Baylor team in their conference tournament. Ignore them at your peril
St. George:
It won't matter if he raises marginal tax rates. The percentage of GDP that can be collected by taxes, regardless of the marginal rate, varies little.
People will not stand still whilst the government tax farmer readies the tax shears. Behaviors change because people respond to incentives. Granted that means economically inefficient distribution of resources and a net loss to society.
the hard, cold facts of reality will always overcome those well-laid plans of politicians. The ironclad laws of economics, invariable as human nature, will not yield to the whims of our "king of a god" president.
So we can remain peaceful in the knowledge Obama must fail. And then work like hell to keep the costs of his failure (personal and ideological) to a minimum.
Hollow laughter, that would be.
Final Four: Russia, Iran, North Korea, Syria.
Russia over Syria, Iran over North Korea.
Russia wins championship over Iran.
Really? You would take Iran over North Korea?
I'm starting to enjoy how whites judge Obama, based on their twisted values, as he pays them no mind and does what he wants.
God, if only the rest of us had that freedom,...
I am annoyed that the sports media thinks this is front page news.
I can agree with that, but it's ESPN, so what can you expect? On the other hand, at least they've kept Stuart Scott away from him. I hate that guy.
Cracked,
I already made that observation. He is goin all gangsta like Chris Rock said! Hawaii, Palm Springs, Key Largo and Bracketology for Barry. Hawaii, Aspen, Key Largo and China for Michelle and the girls. And it's just March.
Hell by 2016, they will prolly just move out of the WH and stay on vacay!
F U Whitey!
[Al] Sharpton said that Obama "has taken 92 days of vacation since he was sworn in," compared to 367 for President George W. Bush at the same point in his presidency. While this discrepancy is explained by the fact that Bush often worked from a family home in Texas whereas Obama has no equivalent family retreat, Sharpton has correctly cited data from the leading authority, CBS News’ Mark Knoller. The statement is accurate but needs clarification or additional information, so we rate the statement Mostly True.
But you guys keep your eyes pinned on this presidents EVERY MOVE.
You know who's causing your life's problems as you tell blacks to take responsibility for theirs,...
The problem with that argument Crack is that we were told that Obama was the one we were waiting for! Honesty, transparency, responsibility! Obama is just another corrupt politician! No different!
What did Chris Rock mean by, "But I believe wholeheartedly if he’s back in, he’s going to do some gangsta sh—.”?

By the way, I've been to Crawford, Texas! It ain't a vacation spot!
No basketball in gulag, comrades.
Like Clinton, Obama has no home and will hang out with billionaires as long as he can. He has done very well for them and they are appreciative. Sort of like the house.....
Comparing future or current presidents to George W. Bush?
That right there is some extraordinarily soft bigotry of low expectations! Next you'll tell me Obama isn't much worse than Jimmy Carter. Goodness but if you're a supporter of this president it's even worse than I had assumed.
Look, give President Obama a break on spending time on his March Madness sheet....it is not like he even knows how to play the fiddle....
garage: "Sweet! I love free stuff.
Love. Need. Can't make do without.
It's a fine line for some.
crack: "Sharpton has correctly cited data from the leading authority, CBS News’ Mark Knoller."
LOL
"authority" and "CBS News" in the same sentence!
Thanks for the laugh Crack.
Remember just a few years back when the lefties like Crack were telling us that CBS news was the "authority" on Texas Air National Guard records?
Good times. Good times.
I'm starting to enjoy how whites judge Obama, based on their twisted values, as he pays them no mind and does what he wants.
Would be a shame if a "racist" got into office and used those same powers, huh?
I think picking the Spartans sends a message to Putin.
The president's bracket was probably filled in backstage by Valerie Jarrett, Obama's Brain...or else by his ghostwriter, Bill Ayers.
I'm stumped. How did this presidency turn into the Justin Bieber Experience?

jacksonjay, if you think life is a straight line, from your mouth to reality, then so be it but I don't. I see a man operating in a hothouse and doing what he can with it. Corrupt? Not at all.
Look, at the very least, you should be able to admit you're hostile to him - shit, I was. That's not a good place to be if you're trying to analyze his good points. And it's definitely not a good place to be if one of his good points is stopping those who would be hostile to him. You simply don't have the perspective to see the good.
It's Obama Derangement Syndrome - just like Bush got, no better or worse. Actually, worse, because he's black, and white dudes especially should be checking themselves.
That's what's hurting y'all more than anything.
"What did Chris Rock mean by, "But I believe wholeheartedly if he’s back in, he’s going to do some gangsta sh—.”?"
Some shit blacks will approve of that whites probably won't like - fair?
Still pimping your racial grievance website eh Crack?
You are a huge failure, just like Obama. Except he will be rich and you will still be a pauper.
Oh - was there a link in that last post?
Whatever.
At least I don't go around known as "Mom Jeans"...
Is it racist to oppose an unsustainable fiscal policy?

And I think both you and Althouse are wrong. Obama is doing what he’s been doing since 2008, running for election. Oh, sure, he’s term limited, but his entire presidency has been to pretend that he’s not really involved with the government. He’s the one who reads about the actions of the government in the papers. He’s the one who refers reporters to secretary of this or secretary of that when asked about policy. He’s the one who gives speeches about what’s wrong with the country as if he has not been in office for the past five years. So ignoring what’s going on in Ukraine is perfectly in line with his pattern of action.
He’s also aware his base – and that includes both the underclass, the press and the denizens of academia - doesn't give a rat’s ass about Crimea, Ukraine, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt or any other foreign activity. They care about government benefits like food stamps, they care about funding for ever more expensive education, and they care about attracting an audience for their shows (which explains CNN’s wall-to-wall coverage of the missing airlines). And they care about who’s going to win the Final Four.
So Obama plays to their interests. And if it means that Putin re-establishes the Soviet Union while Obama plays to his base, that’s OK with him. The US isn't going to be invaded during his term and meanwhile he’s got free government housing, a great plane, all the money in the world and the press, academia and the support of superannuated teeny boppers who still think he gives a shit about them. They actually believe he wants to take care of these issues because that’s what they expect a president to do. Even after five years they will still refuse believe the evidence that’s right before their eyes. They will go to their graves denying the evidence that the Obama presidency is just a great gig for him and his wife and that’s it. Period.
"At least I don't go around known as "Mom Jeans"..."
Unlike Obama huh?
Retard.
Crack,
Been over at the Texas Road House for some sirloin action!
Who ever said I wasn't hostile to fundamental transformation man? Yeah, damn straight, I'm hostile. I liked America the way it was, people working!
Not corrupt? You know better! You admitted a few days ago that his campaign funding operation was straight-up gangsta! Crony capitalism with bundlers! Delays to pay-off unions and big business. I will say that he is bought off by both sides the corporate types, banks and big oil as well as the unions and environmentalists! The corruption is breathtaking.
White dudes should be checking theyselves because he's Black? Sarcasm, right?

If it means you're O.K. with people needlessly dying in the streets? Yeah - if calling you a racist works to stop you.
It's not like anybody's playing from a position of purity anymore. Colorblindness means whites can discriminate by race. Fine. They can be called racists whatever's in their heart.
You've sold out the principles you claim to defend - it's all up for grabs now.

That place can be fun. I took a friend who's mental there once and we had a blast.
Who ever said I wasn't hostile to fundamental transformation man? Yeah, damn straight, I'm hostile. I liked America the way it was, people working!
But not enough black people. And what happened to them, you didn't care. He does. That works in his favor and makes those who oppose a vision of America look cheap, petty, and heartless.
"Not corrupt? You know better! You admitted a few days ago that his campaign funding operation was straight-up gangsta!"
It was also legal.
"Crony capitalism with bundlers! Delays to pay-off unions and big business. I will say that he is bought off by both sides the corporate types, banks and big oil as well as the unions and environmentalists! The corruption is breathtaking."
You call it corruption, he calls it American business as usual - except your guys are on the outs.
"White dudes should be checking theyselves because he's Black? Sarcasm, right?"
Nope. You look like Germans braying at the Jews. Screaming you don't see blacks' most obvious political identity doesn't flatter you or make you appear less unreasonable, racially. It just looks like a dodge. And my experience with the Right says it is. That's why no Right-Wing politician can open his mouth without stepping in it:
You're all too practiced in racism - you actually think it gives you license to be assholes when, in truth, you just look like assholes - you're so practiced, you can't believe you're doing anything wrong when caught.
Non-racist racists.
That's pretty deep in it,...
Gov. Walker (R-WI) just released his Final Four picks as well.
Everything said about Pres. Obama (D-USA) about being frivolous, uncaring, fiddling-while-Rome-burns, stupid, publicity hound, etc, for filling out basketball brackets should now also apply to Scottie.
Unless, of course, the attacks against Obama are based on something other than what he is doing. In that case, carry on with your blind hate.

Definitely. Grass is not considered one of the four food groups in Iran. Plus the Norks can't hit the basket from outside the three-point line.

Except Walker is working and is making his state better whereas the President is acting like a bystander instead of the leader of the free world but other than that, it is just the same.
Admit it, if GWB was currently President and everything up to today was EXACTLY the same, we would have OWS camped outside the WH fences, the nightly news would be 24/7 America is failing and people are out of work and the world is exploding and our "leader" is playing golf and the wife & kids are jet-setting off to another way-too-expensive vacation. You KNOW that is the truth but because we have a "D" President (oh, and he is black) he gets a total pass. He wishes he were as competent as Jimmy Carter! With his experience he had no business on the ticket, no business getting elected, and no business getting re-elected. The only think keeping him in office now is Biden would be worst. By every measure except fund-raising the man is a complete and total failure as a President AND the color of his skin has nothing to do with it. If you can't see that, you are a racist, a racist of low expectations because you grade him on who he is and not on what he has actually done.
"If you can't see that, you are a racist, a racist of low expectations because you grade him on who he is and not on what he has actually done."
Yawn.
"The only explanation they give for why Carson will win in 2016 is the color of his skin and his good-guy persona matched with no political experience,…"
You're a really dumb son of a bitch, The Crack Emcee.
I asked about money. Money is not racial. Money is a medium of exchange. And you tried to make money racist.
Remember, I want my square miles.
And I have the greater claim.
Dumb ass.
And here's a reason Dr. Carson might win:
He sees the world as it exists instead of trying to force his preferred explanation onto the world. Thus, his policies are more likely to prove beneficial over time.
It's policy that matters. But you can't see that because to you it's skin color as a one-size-fits-all explanation. But it's policy that's driving Obama's term as president to further failure. It was policy that proved Carter a miserable failure. It was policy that made Nixon a failure. It was policy that made LBJ a failure. Hoover and FDR failed too, because of policy.
It's not party.
It's not race.
It's policies that work or don't work.
Who was our founding father that commented that the new Republic would last until the voters discovered that they can vote themselves money?
He was right. It's over, turn out the lights.
"Except Walker is working and is making his state better"
Except he's not. Unless being at the bottom of the country in job creation is considered "good".
Tho, he is following through on the his "divide and conquer" campaign promise. Scott Walker is the most polarizing figure in the history of Wisconsin politics. So if you think making the state an uglier place to live is "better", then I guess you're right after all.
Scott Walker is the most polarizing figure in the history of Wisconsin politics.
I guess so, when it is your ox getting gored. When it was the other side, there was nothing polarizing about it cause you were getting what you wanted.
Also, a large part of who gets tagged with the "polarizing" label depends on who the press tells you is polarizing. The President isn't polarizing, he is mainstream. Nancy P. isn't polarizing, she is mainstream. Harry R. isn't polarizing, he is mainstream. Don't matter what percentage of the population feels they are not being represented or supported, if the press is on your side "nothing to see here".
Walker is polarizing because he bucked the unions. Didn't matter that they were bankrupting the state, HE is polarizing.
The reason Scott Walker is so polarizing is simple: He vowed to behave as such ("divide and conquer" were his exact words) and it is the one campaign promise he actually followed through on.
...show me a video of any other politician (Dem, Repub, Green, Libertarian, Independent, or any party) telling their donors that if they are elected their plan is to "divide and conquer" the people they represent and I'll say the same thing about them as well.
This is not a partisan issue; it is a moral one.
Madisonfella:
Did Scott Walker turn the IRS on political opponents? Open sealed divorce records? Get a political opponent thrown off the ballot?
Then shut the hell up, m'kay, punkin'?
Birkel,
Are you honestly suggesting that if Person A does wrong then Person B is without sin? If not, then your comment makes no sense at all.
Fact of the matter is that Scott Walker said, on video, that his plan was to divide the people of Wisconsin. That is flat-out polarizing, no matter what anyone else does.
